Spending a couple of days in Dothan and found this southern comfort food restaurant. It had a 4.5 star rating. Well, it needs a 5!! My wife got a BLT and it was packed with bacon. She said it was the best one she's had anywhere except for when I make them at home. I got a hamburger and it was delicious. Nothing wrong with this place. Great service great food great prices and great ambience but closed on Mondays. read more

Stopped in here for a quick bite! It's next door to a motor sports store, looks small but the restaurant itself is actually fairly big- plenty of tables and booths available. Seat yourself but a server came over immediately with menus and a smile! Drink orders were taken and when they were brought out we were given a basket of fried cornbread for the table. The menu isn't huge but has all the southern comfort foods, which is what we were looking for on this rainy day! The kids menu has at least 12 different things on it, which is a plus for those picky eaters! The soup of the day was Cheeseburger, server brought over a sample and it was delicious. Decided to go with the vegetable beef soup and a small salad, also very delicious! Fried okra has always been a favorite and it was no different from here. Ordered chicken and dressing and the dressing came out with a chicken wing, a chicken breast, and with gravy on the top of it with a bone in it. I'm sorry but it looked like something I would have feed my dogs. I sent that crap back! Chicken and dressing should have the chicken picked off the bone and mixed in it. I don't know what they were thinking so I asked the cashier when we payed for our meal why they done this and she said the only thing she could think of is that it made it easier for the cook. Found this gem on our way back to GA from Panama City. We love country cooking and diners and this one did not disappoint! I ordered a 3 vegetable-vegetable plate of mashed potatoes and gravy, purple hull peas and turnips. All 3 were absolutely delicious and I highly recommend! My husband ordered a pulled pork sandwich and turnips. He really enjoyed his too. We were also served a basket of biscuits and small fried cornbread. Typically I have a great Southern, country cook'n experience at Blue Plate but today has left me puzzled. I've wanted to try the Alabama White sauce (aka bbq sauce) being from Kansas City but also a lover of Carolina bbq. While the flavor of the pecan smoked chicken and the white sauce was unique snd delicious, the chicken breast was so tough the I only got about 3 tender-enough-to-chew bites. The Mac and cheese is not good, second rate, industrial liquid cheese versus s hood ok fashioned homemade cheese sauce. We came to the south location in Dothan and the North Blue Plate seems to be better quality cooking. My guest had the standby buttermilk fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans, which she said was great. read more

Service with Chelsea was outstanding, fast, efficient and friendly. Food was like grandma would cook! Meatloaf was huge portion as was my husband's country fried steak. Place was clean and very busy as it was after church but food and service was on point. We just moved 30 mins from here and were shopping in the area. Will drive back just to eat here. read more

We really enjoyed our meal at The Blue Plate South on our way back to Atlanta. We had been to the other location and enjoyed the food here just as much. Service was a bit slow but very friendly and efficient. The portions are huge and everything was fresh and delicious. I had the smothered chicken breast and my husband had the country fried steak. Veggies were homemade and prepared beautifully . . . not overcooked like you often see in meat and three spots. My husband and I came into Blue Plate after church at 1:58 pm. anticipating the usual warm atmosphere and even warmer food. However instead we got a rush/cold waitress and cold left over food. First the waitress brought us out 5 nubs that were suppose to be cornbread. When we tried to eat them they were like chewing cold bread. When we asked could we get some hot bread, the waitress said "no, its too close to 3pm". 3pm is when they close. Meanwhile the waitress serving the other tables were bubbly and friendly with fresh bread. We ordered and the food (meatloaf and steak) with veggies. All came back cold. I calmed my husband down and suggested we wait and address the manager. We spoke with the cashier and she was geniuenly concerned and went to get the manager. The amanager was attentive and agreed that the service was wrong and apologized. She said she would make it right for us, when we came back in. Ordinarily I would accept this but having been in leadership in retail for years "this term " is used to get the customer out the door. An obvious sign of "yeah we heard you but.....". To seal the deal, the manager did not ask for our names, so how can you make it right when we come back. This is the Blue Plate on the Circle. read more

Okay place for Southern food. I liked the cornbread dressing and the dessert of the day (dirt chocolate pudding), but the fried okra was stale and the pecan smoked chicken lacked flavor. The portion size is good and each plate comes with a roll and cornbread pieces. I was confused by the cornbread pieces... Upon arrival to Alabama several days ago decided to catch something to eat prior to my arrival to my AirBNB for my job assignment. Came upon the Blue Plate due to its great reviews. I ordered the Country fried steak with a tossed salad and mashed potatoes with gravy. They gave me some biscuits and a few hush puppies to get me started. When I received my country fried steak it was surprisingly delicious. My initial thoughts were that it was going to be heavy because of the way it was fried but nonetheless the batter get light and the steak really good and had great flavor. We are on a road trip and stopped by this place. Living in Florida, it's difficult to find Purple Hull peas. These were so good. I had catfish with peas and a delicious blackberry cobbler. My boyfriend had the meatloaf and peas plus cobbler. We ordered the fried pickles. They were thin and crispy. The sauce was delicious. I waited all week for the chicken and dumplings. i got there at noon and the dumplings and sauce were brown not white?! Either old or used gravy to stretch them. either way a waste of money. Quality has gone down since covi, much smaller portions, no bread or biscuit options any longer. just hard fries cornbread. there are a lot of refrigerator and freezer wholesale options for bread, but either too cheap or lazy to give that option any longer. there are just too many places that offer the same price point here in town, to accept this quality or lack of it! read more

Stopped by here on the way back to Atlanta from visiting PCB. Tried online, but ended up just ordering when we got there. Turned out to be better that way because the online menu didn't know they were out of chicken and dumplings. Ordered the catfish plate, chicken tender plate, and pecan smoked chicken plates to-go. Delightful home cooking. I tried the fried Grouper fingers and turnip greens with the complimentary fried cornbread appetizer. All were perfectly seasoned and delicious. My guy loved the sirloin tips and gravy entree with two sides. We are both soul food junkies and were not disappointed.
