When a service station tries to take advantage of me and feed me a bunch of lies I fight back. I went to get my car inspected and they tried telling me my headlight was installed by an unqualified technician. They said they would need to fix it to pass me. I told them no pull my car out and I'll take it somewhere else. They then proceeded to tell me I couldn't get my car back until the inspection was complete. I told them that they do not have authorization to touch my car except to back it out of the bay. They refused and proceeded to take my keys, and went behind closed doors. I went into the bay leaned on my horn and did so until they came out. When the manager approached me I told him he had no right to hold my car hostage as it is my property. I told him to give me my keys and he refused to do so. I took the keys out of his hand, went into the bay, backed my car out, and left. All this occurred while they were saying "Your Screwed" and "I'm calling the police and having them arrest you." No one threatens and\or tries to take advantage of me To be sure all my bases were covered and to ensure the police were aware of the issue, I contacted the Raynham police myself and explained what happened. The Sargent told me that they could not take my property and they had no right to try and hold my vehicle. I went to another inspection station and talked to someone. They had just closed but told me there was nothing wrong with my headlights. I'll return there to get my vehicle inspected. Avoid the Sunoco station on RT 44 in Raynham. read more

It's funny how everyone is mad about their cars inspection. I'll have you know there is no better inspector than Andy. He's honest, extremely knowledgeable about tire issues and would never let you walk out with a problem. This is a "state" inspection, they have to follow state standards on what is allowed as a passable inspection. If it's rejected, you can go somewhere to fix your issue and go back to pass. Also, no one is allowed in the bays while inspections are done, that's against the law. Also, you can't stop the inspection because you are not "happy" with your piece of shit of a so called car you got going on being rejected. Anyway, they've been standing strong for 40 years, if you have people that are mechanics that are "family" and "friends" then why not take it to those people who you deem as knowledgeable and better posed for the position of your issues. If it passes, it's safe and passed state standards. I recommend you read this site clearly and carefully, as it will explain why your vehicle was rejected. I've taken my family cars here for years for state inspections, with no issues. On my most recent trip there, it failed. When I asked why, it was because "you have rust on the tailgate." I looked and sure enough there was a 1" diameter rust spot on the rear tailgate near the bottom middle. He didn't say anything about the rust spot on the bottom of the left rear fender. I asked him how in the world that kind of rust would fail the vehicle and he said the safety inspectors have been "cracking down on them." I can only imagine what this meant. When I asked what I needed to do to have the vehicle pass, he said go home, take the tailgate off, bring it back. Because, see, no rust then. I did bring it home, after I stopped by the auto parts store and picked up a small bondo kit, slathered it over the rust, and brought it back. He passed it. Wasted a couple hours. read more

I go to Fred's ONLY if MAX the Manager is on duty. He is awesome. i drive an hour round trip out of my way to go to Max. He insists on pumping my gas as I am disabled....he is always courteous and friendly, and the mechanical work he prices and watches be done there is is exemplary. read more

WARNING!!! Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT bring your car to be serviced at Fred's Friendly Sunoco!!! I had the most horrific experience dealing with the anything BUT friendly owner and staff this past week! I brought my 2007 Chrysler Sebring to Fred's Friendly Sunoco on Tuesday, 9/20/11 because the engine would start but not turn over. The owner called me on 9/21 to inform me that it was the fuel pump and estimated it would cost around $600 for parts and labor. I told him that was fine and authorized the repair. I did not hear back from him for 3 days, so I called him to find out what was going on. His response was, "I'm still working on it. I'll call you later". I did not hear from anyone until the next day when a different mechanic called to inform me that it wasn't the fuel pump but an electrical problem and he would need a "computer expert" to look at it for $100. Annoyed and frustrated, I agreed. Again, I heard nothing for 3 more days. Finally, on 9/28, the owner called me to tell me my car was all set. He told me he had replaced my car's computer and I owed $1,370! Not only was this more than DOUBLE what he had originally quoted me, but he never authorized this repair with me. My car is under warranty and had he informed me about the computer I would have declined the repair since I could've had it replaced for free by my dealership! He also charged me for a fuel pump I didn't need because he said once he put it in he couldn't take it out. When I tried disputing this over the phone, he rudely ignored me by having conversations with people in the background while I was in mid-sentence. He then became angry and defensive, telling me he didn't need to "check-in" with me after every move he made and that no one likes working on my type of car. (Really? A Chrysler Sebring?) He said he gave me a deal and that he wasn't making any money on this. He said he charged me for 8 days of labor, but the shady hand-written receipt he gave me showed charges of only $85 for labor which made no sense. Another fraudulent detail was that the fuel pump and wires had serial numbers written next to them, but the new computer he claimed to install just said "computer $680.00". When I got in my car, the service engine light was still illuminated on my dashboard, which also raised suspicions, because had he in fact replaced the computer, that light would not still be on. None of this seemed to add up and at the bottom of my receipt it clearly states: YOU ARE ENTITLED TO A PRICE ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIRS YOU HAVE AUTHORIZED. THE REPAIR PRICE MAY BE LESS THAN THE ESTIMATE, BUT WILL NOT EXCEED THE ESTIMATE WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION. He would not refund any of my money but took off $70 for my "patience". My soft gray cloth interior was smeared with black grease stains and saturated in the smell of gasoline, the $10 worth of change that filled my cup holders had been stolen, and my half tank of gas was now below E, which aided in adding insult to injury. This review is the first thing I wrote AFTER my detailed complaint to the Better Business Bureau! Needless to say, this establishment is owned and operated by an inconsiderate, untrustworthy, unprofessional scam artist and I would advise anyone considering going there to save both a head ache and a ton of money by taking it ANYWHERE else! read more

I never, ever write reviews - good/bad, but this has been nagging at me for a few weeks. I took my vehicle to Freds for an inspection and he failed it for a tire issue, but immediately offered to give me a quote to fix it. I said not necessary as I have mechanics in my family. I took it to my mechanic and he passed it. There was no problem with the tire. I had a feeling that he was taking advantage of me (my intuition) was screaming. I grew up with a mechanic for a dad and two brothers. Unfortunately I was in a hurry and stopped by the first station I saw with a sticker sign out front. I think it should be illegal for the station that fails you to do the repairs! read more

I brought my car for an inspection sticker there two days ago. I passed the emissions test, but the VERY RUDE inspector told me my headlights were dirty and that he was failing me for that and for a worn windshied wiper. He told me I had 60 days to make the repair and that if I did, he would pass me and I would not have to pay again. I was aggravated but left. The very next day, I was ticketed for having a failed inspection sticker. The ticket said my car was not safe to drive. The inspector NEVER told me that but rather reiterated that I had 60 days to make the repair. So, I had my husband clean the headlights and replace the windshield wiper. The inspector was not there when we arrived for the sticker. We waited about 20 minutes for him to arrive, he made sarcastic comments about our headlight position but agreed the changes were sufficient and gave a pass sticker. When I told him I had been ticketed, he told me "oh well, you would have been surcharged if you were driving!" I told him that he never said my car was unsafe to drive. He replied, "I didn't, oh well." He smirked and seemed to enjoy the power of having had me lose time from work and get ticketed all for his subjective assessment that my car was "unsafe" and his failure to tell me I could be ticketed if I drove with the failed sticker. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS THERE AGAIN AND WARN YOU NOT TO EITHER! I wish I read your reviews before I went to this UNFRIENDLY establishment! read more
