We are new homeowners in Omaha and didn't have a relationship with any HVAC repair service providers. As luck would have it, we experienced a failed air conditioner on one of the hottest Fridays this summer. So, our nextdoor neighbor shared a recommendation for Fred's Heating and Air. I knew it was a long shot to expect a service call prior to the weekend, but we had no other options. Well, after talking with Amber at 7:30am on a Friday morning and listening to her very understanding and professional voice tell us that she thought she could arrange for a technician to come later in the afternoon... I knew that this was the beginning of what I call a relationship. The follow-up communication from Amber was timely and she told us to expect a technician named Shawn around noon. I've been around for a long time and this was beyond anything I had expected. We were thinking that it was going to be a long HOT weekend, as we really didn't expect to get this kind of attention, being a new customer. Shawn arrived and, after introducing himself, immediately started trouble shooting the system. In no time he indicated that he'd found several issues that had caused the AC failure, but assured us that he had the parts and could get us up and running in short order. He also provided us with information on maintenance routines that would help extend the unit's life, which I greatly appreciated. I'm writing this review while enjoying a cool house thanks to Shawn's expert service and knowledge, and I couldn't be more thankful. In today's world, you just don't expect this kind of professional service on a hot weekend, especially as a new customer. Also, Shawn was committed to REPAIRING our system... not the feared REPLACEMENT conversation that is often presented as the only alternative. read more

Once the technicians are on-site we have been very satisfied with the service and the technician. We have very had a service contract for at least 5 years. The past 2 years called to schedule AC spring service in April. Both times scheduled for June, then it was canceled by Freds and I had to reschedule. I have been using Fred's for the past two years and have always had good customer service. However, this fall for my furnace tune up, my furnace filter was completely left out of the furnace after the service and the furnace was turned off, even though it was a very cold day. When I called to inquire why the filter was left out, I was told that the filters for furnace and humidifier were a part of my service plan and the fee that I have pre-paid for furnace and air-conditioning tune ups. They were going to send the technician back out and make it right. Today, I again took time off work to meet the technician only to be told that I would incur an additional fee as this was not included in my service agreement. I immediately called the office, and was told that I had already been told that the filters were an additional charge. At no point, was I ever told that the filter was an additional charge, in fact I was not aware that this was a part of my service agreement. I spoke with two Fred's Heating and Air employees, Amber, and one other employee and was assured that this was a part of my agreement, and no additional charges were to be incurred. I am not sure what is going on with communication, however this has been a huge headache. I am going to find a new company moving forward. read more

A couple years ago I gave Fred's a try after an insane idea from another company. It was a really smart decision. They've been out a few times on the maintenance program. We called for a tune up on the furnace as I felt it was working a little hard. They were extremely pleasant and came the same day. He cleaned and checked everything out, talked to us about the filter and not to use tap water in the humidifier (took out the filter and showed us why he could tell we did recently with the floride build up) He cleaned a sensor too which was causing the furnace to work hard. Everything is working great, and we appreciated how friendly and caring they were about showing us how to keep things running smoothly. Downside? Since we are just across the boarder of Omaha into Gretna, they advised there was an additional fee to come. Not a big fan of that because I dont expect there to be an extra fee for a "gretna" visit off 168th street. read more

We received a letter from Fred's stating they needed to "...schedule your start-up on your new system". Our system was installed 6 months ago, so this was surprising! I called to clarify this matter, which was somewhat upsetting. Basically, this error resurfaced several previous problems with Fred's. One we're still living with, is the salesperson sold us a unit with a 4" filter and we now have a 2" filter. We questioned this and the salesperson said, "check the contract" we signed...it was listed as a 2" filter, so it was a gotcha on us. We now have to search for 2" filters, which are scarce. Bottom line, would not recommend Fred's! read more

We had to replace our air conditioning and heating system in our home. We asked for bids from several businesses. We were not looking for the cheapest but the right system for our home. Fred's seemed to be the most interested in what we needed, were knowledgeable and friendly. We were very happy with both the service and support. My heating system shut off and Fred was able to diagnose the problem. I needed a new computer control board, and Fred went the extra mile for me and shopped around to get me a lower price. Fred and his assistant, Alex, replaced the computer control board and installed a new thermostat, as well. Fred took the time to give me a brief tutorial on how to use the thermostat. Fortunately for us our friend and neighbor Dan is part of Fred's team and suggested another member of the team,Melissa come and take a look at the furnace since we knew we needed a new one. My AC stopped working on a Saturday night. Could not get a service call on a Sunday. I had called 2 different companies,one said we had to wait until Thursday to have them come out. Called another place,said they could come out today. They later called and said they couldn't be here until Thursday. I am bummed out at this point and very hot in my house. Did an online chat with Fred's Heating and Air,they called after the chat to get some info, but not promising they could show. An hour after that call a service man called and said he could be at my home in 20 mins, and he was. He repaired it quickly. Very professional. Thank you Fred's you came thru when the others failed. We purchased a whole home humidifier before winter started because we have wood floors. We chose Fred's because the price was reasonable. But it has not ever worked correctly. I have it cranked as high as the setting will allow for humidity but we have yet to have over 34% humidity. We have static electricity too. So I call and set up a service call. The day of the scheduled service it is cold and a little snowy out. I get a call canceling the call and had to wait another week. So the guy finally makes it, spends less than 5 minutes looking at it and pronounces it in perfect working condition. I ask why we aren't getting humidity and he says "I don't know what to tell you. The service charge is $95.00 how do you want to pay?" Huh? Are you serious? $95 for what? "Because nothing was wrong we have to charge you the service call fee, someone should have told you." Well they didn't. "I don't know what to tell you buddy." So I paid. Then says, "I notice you have your heat set at 68 degrees, is that normal?" Yes that is about as high as we ever set it. "Well if you set it higher you will get more humidity, like if you set it at 74 it will run more and then blow more humidity into the house." Don't you think so MN eine should have told me I would have to keep my house at sauna temperatures to get it to work? "I don't know what to tell you, buddy." So then I call the office to complain but of course the service manager wasn't there. But she would have him call me. It's been over a month and I'm still waiting for that call. I won't recommend this company to my worst enemy yet alone anyone I like. Their customer service is non existent. Do not ever use them. read more

Disappointed! Freds came out first thing in the morning because my garage heater quit working. Apparently it was just a high temp switch that wasn't operating correctly and got it fixed in less than an hour. Tech was very nice and friendly. I went to work and came home that night to warm up the garage but the unit wasn't operating correctly. Tech told me that my unit was old and that if it ever had problems it might be worth replacing but I didn't expect it not to work the very first time i turn it on after they cashed my check. I called Freds back and made an appointment for the next available time the following evening. Freds called the house for me to call them back. They explained that they would not charge to come back out BUT they probably can't find parts, heater is old, its cold out and everybody is calling them, Tech is running late, so on.... but they would love to provide a quote for a new one. I understand the unit is old but it should have worked at least 1 time after they "got it working". read more

When my furnace fan stopped working, I called Fred's because I wanted a repair technician, not a salesman in disguise. With 2 brothers previously in the HVAC business, I knew a bit about systems, just didn't have the tools or expertise. I got same day service, Andy was extremely helpful with information, and we had a great no B.S. discussion about my system, what it needed, and how much it was going to cost. He even diagnosed my malfunctioning humidifier, and showed me how to replace the transformer myself. Additionally, when we found a very slight separation in the heat exchanger, he advised that it wasn't dangerous (where other techs disguised as salespeople would have recommended a new system most likely), and that his boss could give me a quote while he ran to get the new fan I needed. I not only got the quote, but the exchanger was under a 20 yr warranty even though I was the second owner of the house. I'll only pay labor/install come fall when I get the new exchanger installed, and they'll keep the quote in the system for me. What a relief. Andy replaced the fan motor and buttoned everything up, done in less than 2 hrs. Don't call the big nationwide companies, call Fred's. I'm glad I did! read more

Our air conditioner quit working. Fred's came out and cleaned/inspected the unit. It was found to have a leak that they "couldn't locate" and they added refrigerant. He left stating it was working. The temperature cooled off that day and we didn't run the air for a week. We went to turn the air on and it wasn't working. They were called, two techs came out and all of the refrigerant added 5 days before was gone because they didn't fix the leak in the first place. Additionally, they "thought" the compressor was bad. My husband questioned how this happened in 5 days and asked that their supervisor call him. Their answer was, "we will have him call, but we don't know when because he is very busy." Awesome customer service huh? Additionally, he never called. We contacted a different company that came and told us that there was a leak and it needed a new compressor as well as a condenser coil. So, I emailed the owner asking for a refund for the money we spent to not have our problem fixed right the first time. His response was more than disappointing from a business owner, as it was not customer focused! He told me that a quote to fix the compressor was emailed to us twice and eluded to the fact that he did us a favor because he didn't charge us for the second call. Likely because he knew they were wrong the first time. I would NEVER recommend this company! read more

We inherited Fred's, so to speak, when we purchased our home in 2009. They'd installed a nice large Trane unit with the previous owner. We've always been very pleased, and today is no different. While we enjoyed a beautiful cool front the last couple days, yesterday it started warming up again and we were shocked to find warm air coming out of our vents when we turned the AC on as it was heating up outside! Luckily, it did not get very hot so we suffered thru most of the night until the temps outside cooled off sometime after midnight. Sean arrived around 915am this morning and proceeded to access the situation. I couldn't stick around as long as he needed to fix the entire issue, but I knew from the moment I met him I could trust to leave him in our home so I could get back to work.
