Unfortunately, I have to update my reviews to reflect the lackluster service I received the last TWO visits this year (the food tho, is still a 5/5). March 2023, visit, a male server (name beginning with the letter N) overcharged the 2 of us in our party. When this was bought to his attention, he was argumentative/defensive & insisted he actually undercharged us. No he did not. We were there for lunch & he charged for dinner despite giving us the 2 free lunch sodas. He did relent to give us the correct pricing but did he deserve a tip? He deserved nothing for his "I'm doing you a favor" attitude. This past Friday, we had a female server (name beginning with the letter A). As friendly as she came across, she overcharged me & just me. She knew damn well she charged me the dinner price over the lunch pricing bc she rang up the bill at 5:02 when the picture I took of the menu was at 4:53. Just like the previous server, she also gave us the 2 free lunch sodas so she also knew she overcharged me. When this was bought to her attention, she made a scene by speaking VERY loudly, other tables were looking & so much so that when walked away, a woman from another table came over to say something to us about how the server was wrong. This was embarrassing & she also didn't deserve a tip. As good as the food is, I am now unsure if I want to return. Very sad to feel the way considering how much I enjoyed & raved about about this place since 2017. If I do return, I will request a check at the beginning of my meal & if I get any kind of overcharging, that server will not get a tip...& I won't feel bad. read more

Fred's is a great place for breakfast/brunch buffet style. Many selections of old southern style country cooking. Good food, plenty of selections. If you leave hungry, it's your fault. The services was great but we did not enjoy the food. The biggest issue was all the meats were very dry. We had the ribs, chicken, pulled pork, pot roast and even the Mac and Cheese seemed like it was left overs reheated multiple times. Five stars for a breakfast buffet from a gal who typical doesn't do buffets. Found this gem on yelp while coming back home to ORLANDO. Cute place with friendly staff, country music playing and fresh food. $10 for all you can eat for breakfast is a better deal than most competitors but the food is the real deal. True southern cuisine with staples like fried green tomatoes, biscuits and gravy, fried chicken and fried catfish. All homemade and they also have various desserts and fresh fruit. I filled up my plate but I made sure not to overdo it. They offer a 15% discount to veterans and active military which I admire. Why 4 stars? Because Fred's reminds me of my time growing up in Texas. --- --- --- I've wanted to check out Fred's for a while now but just don't find myself out in Riverview very often. I noticed that they were open for Thanksgiving and when South Tampa celebrity Nick S suggested that we enjoy a Turkey lunch there, I couldn't argue with him. Bonus: the world-famous Boon took some time away from his architecting to join us, as well! I'm not sure how different the selection is on non-Thanksgiving days, but there was plenty of non-holiday specific food on the buffet line. We enjoyed fried chicken, mac-n-cheese, delicious rolls, ribs, etc. But they also had the Thanksgiving staples like turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and stuffing. My favorite item was definitely the sweet potatoes. They were almost as good as my aunt's world famous recipe, which are the kindest words I can give to a helping of sweet potatoes. Everything else was solid - nothing spectacular, but everything was above average. And for about $20 a person, it was well worth not having to slave over the kitchen for two days for a Turkey Day feast. read more

I wanted to try this place an my last visit to the Tampa area but couldn't fit it in. I'm glad I got another chance. I Yelped for highly rated restaurants in the area and Fred's consistently came up at the top of the list. May taste tends to run more to Northern Italian rather than Southern American, so I was skeptical, but Fred's makes a persuasive case for southern food. Normally I'm not a fan of buffets because the food can get old and dried out under those heat lamps. They have those lamps here too, but the food moves fast, and the staff is constantly replenishing with fresh items. I visited on a day that featured pulled pork, lasagna and pot roast. I stuck with the southern items I can't normally get at home and wasn't disappointed. Pulled pork was great, smoky with a crusty bark on the outside and a nice pink smoke ring. Juicy and flavorful. Pot roast was fork tender and fried chicken nice and crisp. Sweet corn casserole was sweet indeed, and the other vegetables were delicious. Stewed green beans, collard greens, and stewed okra will convert a veggie hater. Add some pig parts, cook for hours, and you have pork infused vegetable perfection. Cheap date! Not only if the Market Table AMAZING and super cheap but we were there on his actual birthday, so he ate free. We invited friends and one was raised on a ranch in rural Texas and he commented that the black-eyed​ peas and green beans were best he's had in ages, the stewed okra was as good as his moms and he had thirds on thefried​d chicken. I'm a fried green tomato junkie and these are KILLER, everything was fresh and delicious. Wednesday night was Pulled Pork and Pot Roast, the chunks of beef in the pot roast were HUGE. We had friendly, efficient service from Maria. She kept our drinks filled and plates cleared and you can't​ ask for more. Fred's is so good. Love the friendly, southern service and no-frills ambiance and most of the food is excellent. There are a couple things that I didn't like but others did so to each his own. But Fred's is an excellent choice when you want comfort food and want to give everyone different options plus it's such a great value especially during times like this with everything getting so expensive. You're probably not going to get anything from here. Maybe some ranch. The hot food is where it's at! They have everything from pulled pork, breaded catfish, friend chicken, pork chops and all the fixings. I was there this afternoon. Folks at the table next to us were kicked out for a made up reason. I won't be dining here again, as what they accused that gentleman of was completely false. He and the person they claim he called a name were never at the buffet at the same time. So he had no opportunity to do that. They used the excuse he was rude when he came in. It's a restaurant, rude patrons are part of the process. I guess because the lady Leia got the word General in front of manager in her title she's the god of Restauranting. All that title probably got her was $50k a year and an addiction to authority. Will never return, even if the food is good. Heard Plant City was the best location. If I ever go back to Fred's, I'll drive the extra distance to avoid this location. As will the family members that visit me on a regular basis and also eat at this location.
