My wife and I had a great experience at Blue Flame Soul Food. I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes, and it was delicious--comfort food done right, with great flavor and generous portions. My wife had the turkey wings with cabbage and black-eyed peas, and she thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. Everything tasted homemade and fresh. Also the restaurant looks very clean and welcoming. A special thank you to Tamika, who was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Her excellent customer service made our visit even more enjoyable. This was my husband and I first time back since the reopened from hurricane. Ambiance was awesome and R &B music playing in the background. The remodel is really nice and quality work. Our service was great everyone was friendly. We order for entrees Turkey Wing ..they were ok the gravy really didn't have any flavor. Pork ribs was tender and delicious. Collard green was delicious. I think Mac cheese recipe is different. The food before the hurricane was really good and made you want to come back. I hope they give us back the quality and we will pay as long as the food delicious . I'm riding at least 35 minutes to dine in. read more

It's okay bland a little bit. Went on a Sunday the atmosphere is nice. It was steady as far as the line goes. I got the 2 piece catfish dinner yellow rice Mac and yams. I did have turkey gravy added on my rice that could use a little more seasoning. I'd visit again just to try something else in case it was just the day I choose. Service was good I did have to wait on the catfish to be cooked fresh which I don't mind. But it was fried soft. read more

I was finally able to try out Blue Flame which is a soul food restaurant located on Fowler Ave. They recently reopened due to the impact of the hurricane. Upon entrance I found it to be very spacious and clean. They had some good R&B playing in the background and nice comfy seating. There was a small line but it moved pretty fast. The food is setup buffet style and you're served by staff. There a plenty of protein and side options so no worries there. I decided to go with the turkey wing dinner with yellow rice, gravy, mac n cheese and collard greens with a cornbread muffin. The turkey wings were delicious and tender, the mac n cheese and collard greens weren't fire. The cornbread was a little too dry for me. I also had banana pudding which was a 1000/10 I haven't found a good banana pudding that actually includes bananas in a long time! I would highly recommend this and their homemade sweet tea. read more

Blue flame has great reviews so I was expecting everything to be on point. I approached the front near the hot bar and there was no clear sign of where to order. The server informed me that I could start near the sides to order. They have dozens of food options on the hot bar to choose. I selected collard greens, Mac and cheese and turkey wings. Each plate comes with a cornbread muffin. The greens were sweet (not my preference). The Mac and cheese was cheesy and creamy but not flavorful. Lastly the turkey wings were very tender but not quite seasoned to my liking. Overall the music was nice and the food options were plentiful. The down part was after I finished my food and I went to the restroom. There was no soap available to wash my hands. How are the employees washing their hands after they use the restroom? This place got decent soul food. I got two lunch special fried wing and fried fish. I picked yellow rice, white rice collard green and candy yam. both sides were delicious and she added the sauce from oxtail in the rice so it would become more moist, what a good idea! The chicken wings and fried fish, ere all good . the lunch special came with a corn bread . The service was polite and fast . the sitting area looks clean and open . the lunch. First time trying this spot since being home on a visit. I would for sure go back. I enjoyed my curry goat and my wife enjoyed her curry chicken. The salmon and spinach rice were good as well! The beef Pattie's are homemade and was a perfect breakfast the next morning. We ordered pickup and were told 25 mins. When we arrived the food was ready and they were ready to check us out. We usually pick up from here for a soul food dinner after church or work every Sunday. Today's macaroni & cheese (y) was tasty & as someone once stated it can be too much so & The cabbage was perfectly steamed,l; now let's review my wings cooked in a mushroom gravy-keeping in mind, that soups & gravies tend to be high in sodium already & couple that with a Chef who is heavy with the salt box. In Jamaican runes, curries & seasonings are heavily used, so what happens when using domestic spices it can result to overpowering, over salted dishes. The hub noted this is not the 1-2 time as he & workers have ran into the "salt dilemma". We want to continue to support this establishment however, tossing $$$ meals or risking hypertension is not in the plan. I'm hoping someone convinces cooks to let the customers add salt if needed & just stick with their other delicious seasonings. read more

Mmmmm a very good comfort food spot! Soo good! I met a few of my great coworkers at this spot saying we needed a mental break from work! This place helped us become stress freeee! The only issue I see is it could be a little bit cleaner, but still not bad. I ordered Mac-n-cheese, collard greens, white rice and oxtails...yum yum yum. You automatically get a cornbread muffin with every meal. I also ordered a side of yams with a lemonade. The lemonade was a little sweet for my liking. I almost ate myself into a food coma! The food at the restaurant is laid out cafeteria style so the food options can be seen. I ordered the lunch special fried wings which comes with rice and one side. I thought the cost of the additional sides were pricey but the lunch special was a good deal. I ate the food as soon as I got it and forgot to take pictures. The fried wings were nicely golden and seasoned well. The macaroni and cheese was good and the yellow rice was very seasoned. The meal came with corn bread which was a bit dry. I had a slice of the strawberry cake which moist and sweet. The servers were friendly. The restaurant is nicely decorated and clean. read more

RESPECT!!! This review is more for the staff. I visited, Sat Aug 19, 2023, late afternoon between 3:30 & 4pm. It was of course an assembly line 3 ladies. 1 - gives the sides, 2 - gives the meat and 3 - the cashier. Lady 3 was fusing at lady 2 about an order. 2 is clearly embarrassed and thrown off. She steps to the back to gather herself and replace an item. ( she did the right thing ). Lady 2 gets it together and proceeds with the task at hand. When my order is up lady 3 is now fussing with me about how my order should have been prepared differently, since I only got sides . She also complained about how it is a waist of a container. Really, I don't care! She proceeds to go to lady 1 and tell her, in front of the customers what she did wrong. Lady 1 was not bothered by lady 3. This entire interaction was very unprofessional. In front of customers, lady 1 voice was raised and the way she talk to her co-workers. It was not what she said but how she said it. It was also not the time or place. Now the food. Large selection of food. Lots of options. I was not eating meat on this day. I ordered got collard greens and Mac and cheese. Hubby ordered yellow rice, yams and Mac & cheese. The portions given were good size. The food was great. Collards for me were ok. Hubby loved it. Hubby's platter was $19 and my sides were $5+ per side. Very pricey. We spent $35. I would recommend this location. Since I was visiting Tampa I won't be going out of my way to return. Sorry I have no pictures. read more

Located in the strip mall with Atomic Tattoos there is plenty of parking available outside. Inside the restaurant there are lots of booth and table options of your choice. You order at the counter and is set-up cafeteria style so you see the food that is available but you can order off the menu with most protein choices made to order. Meals are on the pricier side in my opinion but you get a lot of food! Meals are served with rice and 2 other sides of your choice. I got the Mac and cheese which was creamy and cheesy as well as the greens which were prepared perfectly and not soggy. I got the fried chicken which I thought would be a breast or thigh but it's wings instead-a few drums and flats. The chicken was made to order so came out piping hot and fresh but you obviously had to wait for them to prepare it but it didn't take too long. If you come early enough they have a variety of cake slices for dessert but they were sold out by the time I was in for dinner. Overall I would return! read more

Searched long & hard for a Tampa soul food spot; it's safe to say, I'm now home -- BLUE FLAME is the SPOT! I don't know what to praise more, the food variety or the taste. They have virtually ALL the traditional favorites i.e Smothered Pork Chops, Meatloaf, Smothered Turkey, Catfish etc. and the taste...,"It's just how mama used to make it". Their mac n cheese and collard greens are clearly their best sides. The owner is nice & friendly. Certain staff members could be a little more attentive, but it's adequate. Their main desserts are banana pudding and peach cobbler -- it's banana pudding and peach cobbler. I've been back two weeks in a row and plan on going back to make it three. read more

I've been searching for a great soul food restaurant in Tampa, and this is it! Everything to satisfy your home cooked meal desires. This restaurant has an extensive buffet line with the classics. Entrees include baked chicken, meatloaf, oxtails, baked ribs, and more. On the weekends you can get chitterlings, Cornish hen, and ribs cooked on the grill. The side dishes were all that you would expect including mac and cheese, collard greens, green beans, field peas, okra with tomato, and more. Desserts were red and blue velvet cake, strawberry cake, pound cake, and peach cobbler. There was a line when we arrived but the service was fast and efficient. One of the owners was working the line and was very cordial while suggesting combinations. She came by to check on how our food was once we sat to dine. Was passing by to go to another place to eat but the sign caught my eyes, and I can tell you...it was worth the stop. My husband and me decided to try it and wow. We were both impressed, he got white rice, cabbage, mac & cheese and ribs, I got yellow rice, greens, mac & cheese and meatloaf...his ribs looked good so I got some on the side....we also got the homemade lemonade which was a beautiful blue color "I believe signature color for the restaurant name". Which by the way was delicious. We also got egg salad. I will tell you that it was worth every penny, everything was well seasoned and cooked. The ribs were so well made they fell apart and melted into your mouth, the meatloaf was so damn good. EVERYTHING was perfect. I will definitely be back. I had heard great things about Blue Flame and its food, so I gave it a chance. I called the catering number about a month in advance to inquire about a Mother's Day catering order. I was given prices for the selected items and told to pay in person at least 3 days before pickup. I followed instructions and spent nearly $400 for my luncheon, and I told them I needed the food by 12pm on Saturday for an event at 1pm. I arrived Saturday at 12pm, and my food was not ready. I learned that my order had not been placed due to their error. The owner's mother came from the kitchen, yelling that they had not told her about my order and that it was not ready. This was very disappointing and frustrating as my event was at 1pm. Blue Flame then tells me they will have my food ready by 4pm instead. At that point, I have to spend additional money to buy food for my guests. Thankfully, the food was prepared by 2pm, but it was still late. After speaking with the owner, Blue Flame offered me two free meals. I don't think this was sufficient, but they claimed this was the best they could do. I do not recommend. read more

The atmosphere is relaxing and family oriented.
