The server initially said they maybe out of chicken. Came back to say they had chicken left. My husband order liver and onions, she was unsure about the liver and onions. She asked the cook, who was walking around out front. He responded, yes we have liver. Okay, great we ordered. She said it will take 15 minutes. We said okay. She comes back out to say they have no Lima beans. My husband says why don't you tell me what you have and I will choose. It was apparent they had very little on the menu. It's 1:30pm on a Wednesday. It helps to know your inventory. The food comes out. I could hardly cut the chicken it was so dry and overcooked. It looked dark inside as if it was old. I tasted a little piece thinking maybe it was a different seasoning, it had an aftertaste. When the server came back, we inquired about the chicken. She said it is precooked in the mornings and cooked completely when ordered. I thought that's dangerous, letting undercooked chicken sit until ordered. The liver was so dry, you can see it in the picture. My husband could not eat it. They gave the impression that the food was cooked to order. It was not. The black eye peas and yams were good. The collard greens were okay. Not sure where the gravy on the rice came from. It wasn't from the liver. We didn't eat any of the food. They charged us for half the meal. I would have given a 1, but they were very nice. My goal is never to hurt a business. I'm a business owner. But, we must give a good product. We were very disappointed. read more

God, I love this place!! The food is consistently excellent and the service is great. The decor is super cute as well, and they have plenty of space between the tables so you don't feel like you're on top of everyone. My bestie and I always start with the Fried Green Tomatoes, which are cooked to perfection each and every time! So delicious. We also always order the fried fish, which comes with 2 sides. The fish is fresh and moist and definitely the main attraction for us. I'm in a rut and always order the sweet potatoes and the Mac and Cheese. What can I say - I love this combination so much it warrants repeating. Those sweet potatoes are amazing and the Mac is also excellent. I got a to-go order of the fried fish for my hubby and he wanted his with the Okra and Tomatoes, which he really enjoyed. Mr. B's is the cutest place! The decor is modern, feels fresh, and thoughtful, down to the restrooms. Our visit started off on the right foot when Nina greeted us right away and never took her eyes off of excellent customer service. She was top tier. The food was also a hit! I had the fried fish and grits. The oversized portions were giving southern hospitality. The cornbread was worth the trip alone. So good! I also tried the yams and collard greens, which were also good. I got the peach cobbler to go, and I wasn't a fan. Day out and about with my sister yesterday. Looking for a cute food spot in Tampa to eat and do some podcast prep work and Mr Bs didn't disappoint. It's the cutest little spot with a lot of charm. My mom and I went to Mr. B's Café during the week for lunch. There were only a couple other customers inside. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and spacious it was inside since it looks like such a small restaurant from the outside. We were also immediately greeted and had great service throughout our lunch. I had the fried catfish, yams and collard greens and sweet potato cheesecake for dessert. My mom had the fried grouper, yams and collard greens and peach cobbler for dessert. She also had fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. We both agreed that the food was good overall although it seems like the food could've been a little bit seasoned to really get the most out of the food. Glad we took that drive to Mr. B's off Nebraska... the vibe was giving comfort & community. Aesthetically pleasing, cute decor, and everyone was so warm. Our waiter? Sweet as honey. The owner? I stopped in yesterday had time to make it for there special Red Velvet chicken and waffle! What a pure delight, the fullness of the waffle with the hot honey chicken tenders was delicious. I visited Mr. B's for the first time when I was having a particularly bad day and coming here honestly filled my spirit, not only because of the yummy food but because of the old school gospel they have playing! Mac and cheese was runny (how does that happen), greens were salty, pork chop was good but smothered it was not, burger SMH not sure what happened 2 slices of bread not three, a patty and cheese - no grilled texas toast, lettuce, tomato, onion, honey, hot sauce, pickle - nothing but 2 pieces of regular bread, a piece of cheese and overcooked burger (we asked for medium rare). And we asked for Mac and cheese but still got fries even though we were willing to pay for a side of Mac and cheese. They offered the exchange so we took it. Chicken bites were dry and fish bites were OK. Neither came with anything. Lemonades were good and honestly, not interested in trying the cheesecake at this point. $120 after 20% tip. So disappointed...let's hope it was just an off day. Hard to justify that kind of money for what we received. Service was great on the phone and in person and they apologized for the wait. It was very clean and organized with plenty of parking. Wanted my son to experience good, hearty, local cooking - we are generational Tampenos (me 5th and him 6th) and only eat local. I had the Southerner which is the fried pork chop with two eggs your style potatoes or grits and choice of bread. I asked for a large enough bowl or plate to where I could mix up my eggs and potatoes, the server didn't do that so I had to ask her again. I had to ask for my water to be filled she only had one other table at the time. The food however was wonderful. I hadn't had a fried pork chop in quite a while and it was delicious potatoes were cooked perfectly and the over easy eggs were perfecto. Came to Tampa for the Eagles vs Bucs game and found Mr. B's while searching for a Black-owned spot -- and I'm so glad I did. The service was on point and the food was even better. The cauliflower was fried up perfectly crunchy, the cornbread was soft, warm, and just the right amount of sweet, and the raspberry lemonade had that perfect balance -- sweet but not so much that it takes you into a sugar overload. Wow! A beautiful interior, lovely staff, and delicious food! Upon first arrival, it's truly a "wow" how gorgeous and big the inside is. There's two dining areas, separated by part of a wall. It's super bright inside and I loved the colors! We were seated immediately and Sashelle was our server. She was very attentive and friendly the entire time. We immediately received cornbread at the table - some of the best I've ever had! I loved that it was pretty soft, not dry at all, and sweet. I ordered the oxtails (my first time ever) with collard greens and mac & cheese. It also came over rice - seriously a huge portion of food - I had to box up more than half to take with me! Driving by and thought I would get some southern food to take home. The host/waitress was so sweet. She was patient as I went over the menu. I decided to get more than I needed. I ordered the Oxtail dinner, the turkey meatloaf, and the smothered pork chops. Leftovers will be ready. Now won't be able to talk about the food yet since I'm taking it home so let's go over the atmosphere. It had background music which was at a level that did not drown out conversation. While I was writing this they said they sold out of the turkey meatloaf so I substituted the fried fish. The place is airy with large windows so you don't feel enclosed. There is no smoking or vaping which I like when eating. There is ample parking available for the size of the establishment. Experience The fam and I went to eat at Mr. B's after church last Sunday. We chose this place because we had been to this restaurant before (twice actually) about a year ago when we first moved from California. For some reason, I could never get around to write a review although each time I've patronized this restaurant in the past the food was great. I even recall ordering the same sides each time although usually I like to get new things on the menu if I've been somewhere multiple times. On this particular visit, it was like I recalled. We were welcome upon entry, seated right away, and our order was taken in a matter of minutes. The vibe is always nice to say the least. The Food I was with a party of 6. 3 out of 6 people ordered the same thing--Honey Hot Fried (dark or white) Chicken w/ 2 sides. I was one of the three that ordered honey hot fried chicken (dark--leg and thigh) with macaroni and Lima beans. I also ordered some buttermilk fried okra that was drizzled with sweet chili sauce and a green goddess sauce. The others in my party ordered fish bites and chicken and waffles...all of which they raved about. For some reason, I did not enjoy my food this time. The chicken wasn't the same flavorful chicken it was when I tried it a year ago. The chicken didn't taste like chicken; however, my husband who ordered white meat (breast/wing) loved his chicken. He said it was juicy & flavorful. His chicken looked just as good as he claimed it tasted, but my chicken was the complete opposite. The legs looked smaller than most chicken legs you'd come across & the taste was not there. The Lima beans were overly salted with Lawry's Seasoned salt and my macaroni just tasted like velvetta cheese mixed with noodles. I'm not sure if they changed recipes or have a new chef but it was just not the same. Why I'll Be Back I'm sure after that, you probably think I'll never return but you're wrong! I will indeed be back. Perhaps I got a bad plate this time. I'm choosing to look at the situation differently. I've seen Top Chef or other cooking shows where the chef gets all the plates completed to perfection but somehow he/she manages to mess one plate up. That's a consistency issue not a customer service issue. I'm willing to revisit to see if there's any modifications made. I ordered my food and had it delivered with Uber Eats. I ordered the turkey wings over white rice with sides of macaroni and cheese, candied yams, and collard greens. The turkey wings were tender and fell right off the bones. The collard greens were flavorful and seasoned to perfection. Macaroni and cheese and candied yams were amazing to. I thought it would be grainy but man I'm glad I was wrong. It was pure heaven in my mouth. The cheeses they used added a perfectly balanced saltiness and tang to my palate. 5/5 Okra & Tomatoes- these were moist, cooked well enough where it still had a bit of bite to it. The tanginess from the tomatoes worked very well with the okra! 4.5/5 Cabbage- this was in a delicious broth. Cabbage had texture and flavour! 4.5/5 Collard Greens- very delicious and wonderfully cooked! If you need some greens, you can't go wrong with it.
