Fortunately I've gotten in and out of previous homes before having to tackle this but now, the time has come. After talking to several companies and reviewing proposals, I chose Smart Roofing Systems. Smart has done many homes in my neighborhood and everyone had good things to say about them. My experience was no exception. One difference I noticed about Smart vs. other companies is that instead of having a huge dumpster placed in your driveway, they used an open trailer on wheels allowing for easy removal of the debris each day. I also liked the fact that this left no marks on the asphalt driveway like some heavy dumpster can do. The crews put in extremely long days and did an amazing clean up. When you tear down a roof, shingles, nails, etc. go everywhere. The job site remained neat and the daily and final clean up was superb. Smart was extremely easy to do business with. Great, responsive communications and follow up. I tend to ask a lot of questions especially given the costs involved. Never was I left hanging. I highly recommend Smart Roofing Systems.

Well fellow homeowners, our roof has been replaced in less than 8 hours?What is most amazing is that it was 100 degrees today in SW Michigan? What literally perfect hard workers and team removing our old roof and a professional and beautiful replacement in this 100 degree combined hot and humid day at our home in Vicksburg Michigan! I spoke in the Yelp chat with questions to the owner Richard Paige in Rockford, MI., who certainly knew all the questions he answered without hesitation and it revealed his knowledge of all the aspects we needed to know! We could not have been more impressed, and we made the decision to have our roof replaced in the very next week he was able to fit us into! A week ago our new premium was due and having our initial roof replaced today, we were able to obtain a credit of $617! Ask your agent about this because it was apparent our roof was old enough that it was raising the cost of our annual premium! We never knew that, but we must also honestly inform all homeowners that insurance companies are very concerned about possible claims because of aging roofs, which seemed fairly obvious, but it "woke us up" when faced with a 50% increase in the past 2 years? Thankfully our agent was definitely helpful and on our side in advising us we could save so much by spending a very reasonable amount with Smart Roofing out of Rockford who replied to me on the YELP APP almost immediately and the rest was history! We are now one week later very thankful this was communicated so well by the owner Richard Paige! All of the electric service was top notch, the electrician I used for my kitchen remodel told me the work was fine. However, the new mast they installed was horribly installed. They installed the flashing ON TOP of the shingles above the mast, put two nails through it and the all the shingles, gobbed some tar on it and left it at that. I called Amp Electric and gave my complaint to whoever answered the phone. Was called back later saying that is they way they do it and it is fine. It took six shingles because we had to replace the ones that had nail holes through the surface. My cost was only $160 to repair because I already had the shingles. So a mixed review. Don't have them do anything except electric work.

BEWARE! The $49.95 furnace tuneup special appears to be somewhat of a bait&switch. Once in the door…read morethey find something wrong (which is fine) but then charge you an outrageous amount to "fix" it, more than making up for the low cost of inspection. After inspecting and showing me the two burners, the tech said they there was corrosion on them that should be removed and would cost over $200. I consented, assuming this would take a considerable amount of time. Five minutes after taking them to his truck for cleaning he was back and showed me the burners with only some of the corrosion removed. He said "that's the best I could do. THAT WILL BE $250". So for 5 minutes of work he was charging me $50@ minute. I demurred and ended up settling for $$150 for the corrosion removal, still way to much! His response " you're paying me for my expertise, not my time". I found my experience with them to be very disappointing! Again: BEWARE! The business responded below and falsely claimed I "dumped a can of diet coke in their technician's too bag". I DID NO SUCH THING AND WOULD NEVER DO SUCH A THING! I agree with the company's claim that I consented to the charge in advance but assumed the time required for the work would justify the charge. The cleaning of the burners took no more than 5 minutes! That meant they were still charging me $50 @ minute. Although I negotiated to a reduced charge of $150 for cleaning the burners, that was still $30@ minute! I stand by my original claim that this company engaged in a bit of "bait & switch"! And the claim that I took revenge on the technician by dumping a can of diet coke in his tool bag is outrageous and false and appears to be an attempt to discredit my negative review of this business!

We had a horrible experience dealing with Larry Visner at Bradfield. Larry came out and seemed…read morepleasant and knowledgeable, but that initial impression was fleeting. Several weeks after the initial walkthrough he provided a "rough" estimate of costs that he had put together in a spreadsheet. Based on that estimate, we agreed to design the project which took months of emailing back and forth. Larry had not taken notes and we had to correct him on basics of the design multiple times, and often had to ask him multiple times for the same information. After getting the design finalized, Larry came to us with an adjusted price over 50% HIGHER than the original rough estimate. Larry had not provided any prior notice of the increased costs and could not give us a straight answer as to why it had increased so much. Despite misleading us into hiring him based on a wildly incorrect initial estimate, Larry and John seemed to have no issue wasting months of our time and charging us excessively for the design they provided which is now useless to us as the project is way out of our budget (which we had made clear to them much earlier in the process).

Instead under the impression that they were building off site and would just have to place at our house. Now we have received, it is cold, what do you expect? The light trim around the edge wasn't something I would have thought of on my own, but it is a fantastic accent that really looks nice without adding any cost. The work was performed quickly, efficiently, and professionally, and we couldn't be happier with our new deck. We were so impressed with the results that when our main deck is ready to be replaced, we fully intend on having Renaissance come back out to compete that job as well! I can not recommend this company strongly enough.

He gave thought to not bringing in his larger truck that would have broken through an already cracked driveway. Gene's quote saved us quite a bit of money over the other contractor we were considering and he got the job done within one week, so we were very happy with everything. A-1 job!

After the wind storm we had called a tree service we had used before. He was too busy with the…read morestorm damage so he recommended us to call Able tree service. So we did. One of their men came out to look at the tree on our house. They said they could do the job but gave us no estimate. This maybe partly our fault because we were just grateful to get someone to come out after the storm because we knew other people were in need of tree services too. They came after 2days which was fine because the tree did not penetrate through our metal roof. Thank goodness for that. So the crane came but had to wait for the crew to show up . It did take almost all day to do the job. There was no bill that day. About a week later we received a bill of $30,000 plus for the work. It was One tree! My husband called because we thought it was a mistake. They said they could adjust it so now only$26,000 for the job. Our insurance gave us a check for all the work that was needed to be done other than the tree. We had to pay out of pocket a few thousand dollars to have the other things done. The tree company did not remove the tree or do a good job cleaning up. So if you use Able make sure you get in writing what they are going to do for you and the cost. I wish we knew more of what to do in this type of emergency.
