Really wish I could have given this place a better review, but sadly that's not the case! I took my 16 year old daughter in to get her nose pierced for her birthday! I booked online, there is a place to write a message, so I put that I was looking to get my daughter her nose pierced for her 16th birthday. I got a text message back, and we booked for the next day! Great fast booking! That's were one of the stars come from above! So we head out the next day! My daughter was so excited! We go into the shop and the owner is getting ready for my daughter, she yells from the side room that she needs a photo ID and that she has paper work for us. I told her my daughter doesn't have a ID, she stops looks at me upset and says you are the 3rd person today that has bring in a minor without telling me! I told her that I did tell her in the message online. She said are you sure, I replied yes. Ok know big deal I can run home and get her student ID card, so we left and returned to the shop. The time comes to get the piercing done my daughter sits in a chair which is very wobbly, she put a dot on my daughters noses and is telling me that she likes to have a nose piercing in this area which is extremely low and forward on the nose, I told her that doesn't look right :/ she said trust me I have been doing this 20 years! And that everyone says that but you just have to trust her. So sadly I did not say more, my poor daughter! I should have said more! So she Pierce the nose, and then was talking about after care but I could barely pay attention to what she was saying because I was so distracted on the placement of the piercing. Checking out I asked again are you sure that's the right spot, she said yes! As we left my daughter was upset, and so was I.. my daughter is a shy/ special girl and I feel so bad for her! I told her we can take it out and get it done on the other side but she wants to see if it will grow on her, but now her friends/family are asking why is your nose piercing in that spot! She tells them that what the lady wanted. My Second star comes from the healing process, she has not had any trouble with the healing. I am being far with this review! I can see good intention in this place but my experience there wasn't what I'd hoped. This review is about the place and not the people as my service providers were great. I am in the beauty Industry and felt that this salon was not kept to a standard I hope to see in a professional salon. There was junk laying around, pretty cluttered space, a decent amount of dust/dirt, old peeling equipment, and an unpleasant pet odor. I love furry friends don't get me wrong but in a place of business I feel things have to be kept to a certain standard of cleanliness. When it comes to getting a pedicure ambiance and relaxation is important, unfortunately we did not experience that here as far as atmosphere goes. I showed up today with no appointment just on a spontaneous whim and wanted my nose pierced. Rene was so accommodating even if she wasn't ready for business quite yet she didn't hesitate she just jumped in started setting up and told me to come right in and that she would be ready for me momentarily. Ugh.. started out as a 5 star because of all the awesome choices of sparkly shellac like I've never seen, as well as all of the different things that this shop does including eyelash extensions, piercings, tattoos, etc. And, this is exactly why it ends up as a 2 star. The owner has SO many things going on all at the same time, including 2 groupon specials that she has NO time for anyone. While she was doing my nails, she was answering the phone to schedule an appt. with a client, and ushering another client into a room to do their eyelashes. On top of that, she had 1 person doing hair, and 1 other person doing nails. Holly is the only saving grace at this place. She did a fantastic job on our nails. I had a groupon for a pedi and a mani, and ended up not being able to get my manicure finished because my polish took way too long to take off. That's what I was told. I had the option of going back to get it finished. No way I would go back there. Someone is juggling way too much and not giving any undivided attention to any of her customers as far as I could see. Perhaps hiring more people might help? The extra star is for Holly. I have been coming to Rene for more than 5 years now. Little story short, I moved to the States 12 years ago and I found it difficult to find a good skin care specialist around Portland. I did a few, from expensive one like Dosha to small beauty salon in Gresham like New Leaf (who is great by the way) but Rene facials are the best by far. Her edgy look could be intimidating at first but do not let this fool you. She is extremely knowledgeable about skin care. She will customized treatments depending on your skin needs. She will ask you how your skin feels and LISTEN to what you have to say. She has always been really gentle and professional with me. To the facial now. Unlike other places, she will do a FULL facial including facial steamer, skin cleansing, pimple extraction if needed, exfoliation (with different level of strength depending on your needs), mask (lot of variety) and moisturizing treatment. She uses essential oil treatments that smell divine and she always execute amazing upper body massage during the facial while treatments are in progress. She keeps quiet so you can close your eyes, enjoy and relax! I have always been really pleased with how my skin feels and looks . A real treat for a busy mom of 2 like me! read more

If there was an option for no stars, I'd go for that. I decided on this place as a last resort for a tattoo, and wish I would've kept looking for a better artist. Her art in the pictures and numerous certificates for tattooing were deceiving. For starters, I was a walk in, and she'd had other appointments scheduled. So we get into the room and an hour goes by. She sends me away with some wrap on my arm, and asks me to come back in an hour so she can do an appointment. So I come back and finish it. During the whole visit she was yelling across the room to her receptionist answering questions about phone calls. Either she needs to hire more people, or just learn to balance her appointments better. This was my first tattoo. I paid over $300 for the tattoo itself. I was so dissatisfied! It looked like crap and I paid $50 to an unprofessional to fix what she could. I would never recommend this place to anyone wanting a tattoo. Let me start this by saying that I have not yet had my appointment, but I already am NOT pleased with the professionalism of this business, and find them to be VERY rude. This is my first yelp review, and if I can save anyone from the frustration I feel, then I'll take the time to do it. I bought a Groupon deal for fake eyelashes, and wanted to use them formy engagement photo shoot about a month ago. I called trying to make an appointment, and a woman told me she would have her mom call me back to talk to me about getting the eyelash put on. OK? I wait. No call back. I call back the next day and leave a message. I do not receive a call until the next day when they tell me they don't have time until about a month out. We discuss what time, choosing between 8:30 am and 10:30am. She tells me the appointment will take about 2 hours (seriously?!) so I choose 8:30am. Then she drops a bomb - she tells me I have to pay a gratuity charge of about $60 (on top of the $89 I payed on Groupon), otherwise they "lose money." Once again... SERIOUSLY?! So the day comes, I have my appointment on a crisp Saturday morning. I peel myself out of my warm bed to go to an EMPTY house, no one in sight. I am confused, and starting to get upset, but think... I'll wait 10 minutes. In that time, I call and look through the window (I can hear the phone ringing from outside) and leave a message explaining that I was here for my 8:30am appointment and that I was pretty upset that no one was here to meet me for it. I go home. I receive a call around 10:30am (Really? You got my message 2 hours later, or decided calling me back when you got there wasn't a good idea?) from someone who is NOT apologetic, but annoyed instead. She said that she had been running late and was there 5 minutes later. I told her I waited 10 minutes. She told me she was pretty upset too and that this also ruined her morning. OK? Silence. She tell's me she doesn't know when she can fit me in because they're "so busy." Then she tells me if I want to, I can come in at 1:30pm today. NO thank you. I'm going to see what I can do to get my money back from Groupon, because they clearly don't need or want my business. read more

This place does not deliver what they promise. I bought a special through Groupon for a 90 minute facial. Even though I wan't asked to, I arrived about 10 min. early so I could get all the paperwork out of the way and be ready to go on time. About 10-15 minutes after my scheduled start time, I was handed paperwork to fill out. So obviously, by the time I would have filled that out, gone to the room, gotten on the table, about a half hour of my 90 minute time would have been gone. I didn't wait around to find out. I have had people comment on how beautiful my lashes were and, when I told them they were extensions, they couldn't believe it. I have also been going to Holley for my nails. She is so creative. Renee has always taken extra care to make sure that when I leave my lashes are beautiful. We've tried different lengths and the main thing is communicating what exactly you're looking for. I've got to long on the edges to shorter and thicker. I'm always getting compliments that people LOVE my eyes and then I tell them they are extensions and they are just floored. I love the freedom it gets me and if you follow the directions (don't get them wet for a few days) they last a LOT longer. Is it crazy sometimes.. yes, but if you actually talk to her she's just a REALLY hard working small business person trying to make ends meet. This seems to be a very hit or miss place as I read the reviews, but my experience was great and worth leaving a comment! I called about 10 minutes before close- the ball on my lip piercing had fallen out somewhere in the carpet and i needed a new one so it didn't fall out and close up at night. She was a little hesitant when I asked the hours but I explained what I needed and told me to come right over. I live about a minute away, so it was no trouble. I was welcomed in by the owner and she quickly took me back, got me new jewelry (no more irritating external threading, I really appreciated that), and we even chatted for quite a bit. I paid about $50 for just the jewelry and her time, which is actually the same price I paid for my whole appointment to get pierced at a different shop in the first place, but I had no complaints because she was so sweet and accommodating. I really felt bad that it was closing time- working in retail I understand the frustration of customers walking in two minutes to close, but I didn't feel rushed at all. read more

I went into this shop because I needed new spetum jewelry. I walked in talked to an older lady that was sitting at the counter and she said she would be right back with someone else that could help me. The second Lady (the owner and manager) comes out asking what she can help me with so I KINDLY told her that I got a septum piercing about a month ago but one of the screw on balls had fallen off so I've been wearing it flipped up into my nose, so I go to flip the piercing down and she gives me an awful look and starts telling me to follow the etiquette rules of a piercing shop and that I needed to go to whatever piercing shop I got the piercing at (MULTNOMAH PIERCING AND TATTOO ) So I asked how else would I show you what I'm talking about? And she told me I could have just told her...Me being somewhat of a newbie didn't know these things so I was taken aback by how rude she was.She basically followed me out of the store wiping down anything I may have touched just to be a b****. So right after leaving her shop I found the businesses number and called to speak to the manager which I then found out it was her. She told me she had been in the piercing business for 20 years and said it was common etiquette in any piercing shop not to dig up in your nose to show a piercing because then I would be contaminating anything I touched. (which I literally touched the door handle and that's it) So I asked her (multiple times since she was cutting me off the entire time I was on the phone with her) if that was posted anywhere for us newbies to see so we wouldn't make that mistake and she flat out told me no because it's common sense. The groupon will have expired by then! She spoke over me the entire time while telling me "this is why it's important to call right away." It was thee worst thing I've ever seen and to make it worse 3 days later half of my eyelashes fell out! She told me it would take 30-45 minutes and I was there for 2 hours.. One of the worst 2 hours ever she Talked on her cell phone and work phone almost the entire time with her boy friend.. She got up every ten minutes to do something.. I will NEVER go back there.. My eye lashes look natural. They simply look like I have mascara on. I like them more and more each time. We now have the perfect length. Renee's prices are reasonable. With all her certifications she could be charging higher prices. I read the reviews and was nervous from a few. Which in turn led me to write this. From my experience I can tell you that the owner has experience in this industry that far exceeds every other salon I have been to. If your looking for glam and glitter and your fancy champagne while receiving your services then this wouldn't be my recommendation. in the past i paid top dollar for that experience and received less that satisfactory results at other salons. If you are looking for mani/pedi and amazing eyebrows and lashes I highly recommend this place. The only thing I could see people having an issue with is how busy Renee in particular is. Having said that I would like to point out that she provides nearly every service under the sun and is running a small business on top of that, including raising her children. I am amazed at all she does. It's a wonderful example to see a woman so successful. I think it's quite a blessing to have the clientele. I do feel she was personable, attentive and detailed when it was my time.Also- in this industry you Cannot make everyone happy. It's impossible. I am a very satisfied woman. Rene is super friendly and nice. She is super knowledgeable and used a needle to pierce my ears instead of a ear gun. Everything she used was sterile and her shop is super clean and organized. I bought a Groupon for this place for upper and lower permanent eyeliner. First, I had to wait 45 minutes in my first appointment because she was running late. Then, she made you to pay another $88 for tip. 3 days after the procedure, I have to go see my eyes doctor because my eyes became bury. It found out that some of medicine she used to numb get to my eyes and burned my cornea. My left eye eyeliner is thicker than my right eye. I bought a package from Groupon for a Full Set of Eyelash costing $125, which I had to pay for a week in advance. The next day I saw they had a Groupon for $89, with a fill, eye mask and eyebrow wax, etc. I called to see if I could switch packages and Rene stated that I could, I also bought a package for my mother. The advertisement photo on Groupon had a lady with thick full lashes that looked natural. This is what I was expecting. I got this package for a special event coming up so I was shopping around other places and they stated that they normally place about 50-60 lashes on each eye. So I expected the same when I went into Free Spirit, this is not what I got. I arrived to my appointment on time and waited around until I was greeted by the receptionist after she was done texting, at which time she proceeded to sit next to me and regale me with her very personal, very gross medical conditions. NO one ever gave me any instruction on what was going on, if someone was running late or what. My appt was at 6pm and it was now 6:30 and still no clue what was going on with my appt. Finally about 6:40 Rene arrived and said sorry and told me to lie down. She hurried through some treatments and gathered her things. She kept placing eyelashes on and cursing because they were not cooperating with her, two hours later I was able to get up and look in the mirror, I was horrified. I had SUPER heavy, long and sparse lashes. NOT what I anticipated or was shown on advertisement. She stated that I have super thin lashes; if she knew this she should have used a lighter weight product or not done them at all. When I got up to the register she demanded her gratuity and even calculated how much I was to pay her based off the original price of the services. I was shocked, confused and am wondering if she does this with all her clients. This is not what gratuity is you earn it, it's not mandatory. She didn't even do all the services she included in calculating her gratuity such as the eyelash dye or the fill, and I'm not going back so I feel super cheated. I went home that night and counted my lashes, I have 22 per eye and losing them by the day. I called the next day to let her know my frustration and also ask if they could be trimmed. The receptionist called me and left me a message stating that no, they can't be trimmed and they look nice and that I'm just not use to them. I have had several people ask me what is wrong with my lashes; they are irritatingly long and twisted, not to mention the itchy feeling on my eyelids. I am super self conscious about them and also I can't go outside as they flap in the wind and poke me in the eyes. I am suppose to be in a wedding this weekend and am going to be fumbling with them the whole time. I want them off and a refund. My Mother is suppose to get hers done too and now she doesn't want to because of all the problems mine has caused. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT GET THIS SERVICE OR ANY OTHER THEY ARE OFFERING! I wanted to get them done before my vacation for my first wedding anniversary, there was a bunch of back and forth before finally i could get in in a couple days which was a month before my vacation, nothing closer.
