When I called to set up the appointment I recounted our experience with the other groomer, and the employee I was speaking with was appalled at my story. I asked if their groomers were skilled in scissor-cutting double-coated dogs. She asked me to hold while she consulted the groomer. As it turns out, the groomer who took care of my dog has owned Pomeranians in the past and is well-versed in how to groom them properly WITH scissors. So I made the appointment and was told that it would probably be only 60 to 90 minutes. That was surprising for a bath, haircut, and nail trim...or maybe I'm just used to the other groomer and their 3 hour grooming windows. Riley's even calls to give you a 15 minute heads up that the grooming is almost complete. My girl looked good when I went to pick her up. She had a bath (presumably with unscented doggy shampoo since she didn't smell like an exotic dancer.) She even had a little bow in her hair. That was a nice touch. Maybe next time I'll ask them to paint her toenails. The most important thing is that she made my baby look like a Pomeranian again. It's gong to take a while longer to get her coat fully restored, although it may never grow back properly 100%, but the groomer was able to even things out so it doesn't have that weird look that we'd had before. At any rate, I'm pleased with the job Ms. Jackie did, and we'll be back.

I feel much reassured that Jack's allergy issues have been addressed and he can enjoy being a painfree puppy again. Ashleigh helped us get checked in and made us feel welcome. Brenna was so compassionate and kind. She listened, really listened as I explained why I was there. Active listening is an art and a science. She is very good. (I am an experienced educator so I notice these things). She also offered to carry Jack back to the car for me. He still gets scared walking by himself with traffic roaring by, and I have a sore leg. While I hope we don't need to visit our vet again soon, I feel very confident that if we need help, we will get the help we need.

Although she was not the surgeon who repaired the tear, we saw her for all of the follow-up appointments. She is not only knowledgeable, but truly loves animals. I had been pretty pleased with the way Southside Vet Clinic took care of our dogs. But somewhere…read morealong the line, they just dropped the ball and never bothered to pick it up to run again. For instance: 1. It's REALLY rude to call the clinic only to hear the receptionist say, "Can you hold?" Then you're on hold for 5 minutes or so. But lately, as soon as they pick the phone up, they put you on hold. Surely they can't be THAT busy! Every freakin' time I call? Uh uh...I'm not buying it. 2. They didn't bother to send us cards letting us know that the dogs were due to get their rabies shots. I found out they were out of date when the groomer couldn't take them without an updated shot record. I called Southside to get the dates of their last rabies shots, and they had expired. I asked why we weren't informed about it. I had received no letter or postcard letting me know the shots were due. The receptionist's response: "Well, we try to send out timely notices but sometimes someone falls through the cracks. These docs are really pretty good. As I said above, I was pretty pleased with their care in the beginning. I don't know what happened, but I decided that I needed a more reliable veterinary provider. The front office people know ZERO about good customer service. It's too bad, because Southside is only a few miles from our home, so it's very convenient. I don't plan on returning to them unless and until they can show that their front-line workers, which are the face of any company, have been properly trained in providing world class customer service.
