We left another restaurant in town to go to Freedom. We remember the food being good and outdoor back deck being a great place. Welp, things change. Walked in and the place was slow and a bit dead. Some people there, but just a slow vibe. We were seated in the back room right next to the kitchen. Kitchen staff were yelling for no reason at all, not yelling food orders, just horsing around. Freedom Cafe has excellent service! Our server was named Kailey and she was so kind, helpful, and receptive to our group's requests! She even made me a fresh pot of coffee when I ordered a cup. Our group had the chili cheese nachos, fish and chips, chicken Parmesan, and classic burger. We also split a plate of fried cauliflower. Overall, the portions are large and the food comes out hot! The chicken parm was drowning in marinara sauce but the mozzarella was delicious and super melty stretchy! The burger was cooked to perfection but needed more seasoning. The fries were okay. The nachos were amazing. And the fish and chips were the "best meal" my mom said she has had in Maine. Our fried cauliflower was unexpectedly very lemony though and we didn't love it like we thought we would. We originally came to Freedom Cafe because we wanted to sit outside and look at the gorgeous view of the water, but of course it was pouring rain and we weren't able to. The view was stunning even in the rain though. I think the food is a little over hyped but if we had the view, I definitely think it would be so worth it! Six of us on the back patio. Poor servers had to run up and down the stairs for us all night. Payton K was great to us. Really great view of the lake, we were able to catch the eye of a friend on a passing boat. Finding a good place to eat around here is difficult. While this place might be considered "good" for the area, the food was disappointing, and I wouldn't return. The nachos were just plain chips and cheese, similar to what you'd make in a microwave, with a small container of salsa on the side. All the entrées were a 3/10. Overall, a disappointment. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews on this place. Perhaps it was a long time ago with different ownership? Regardless, my family travels the 20 minutes or so from Long Beach to come here all the time. We have had both dinner and lunch and have been very happy with the service, food and atmosphere. I like that they have solid kids option and their beer selection had enough variety to please most. The manager makes a point to come by and check on tables, a nice touch in this day and age. If you want a really good meal with lots of options in a casual atmosphere, you can't go wrong with this place. read more

Really terrible lunch. Grizzle in the chicken quesadillas. Turkey sandwich that was processed turkey and the palest white tomatoes I have ever seen (no excuse for bad tomatoes at the beginning of September). Hostess was surly. Will not return. I am at the bar at Freedom right now and the male bartender with a short blond/brownish haircut has got to be the most rude, condescending and poor bartender I have ever experienced. It's not crowded. He's just a jerk. Even the locals are walking out. I just waited 30 minutes and got no drink, even though the 2 men next to me got food, drinks, etc.. He was so rude that I will never be back. Shawn is doing Freedom no favors in the service or ambiance department. read more

Feel "free" to walk on by and select somewhere else. Maybe companion and I stopped in for lunch on a Sunday. The menu wasn't overly impressive but I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and she ordered the turkey sandwich. Both came with fries. After our meal was delivered we never saw our waitress again. The fries were edible but that was about it. The pulled pork was so dry, and the quality was very poor. No BBQ sauce which had been promised on the menu. The turkey sandwich was a slab of turkey and looked less than appetizing. We waited for our waitress to return but she didn't so I wasted almost $45 on this meal feeling totally unsatisfied. I love these 1 star reviews from people that come in during a Bob Marley or 4th of July event and say 'it wasn't even busy' when in fact it's literally a line out the door scenario and they are pissed that when they stand at the server station at the bar they are ignored in favor of the patrons patiently waiting in the line that is obvious to everyone. Look - it's a tourist town - and most of the customers (and all of the complainers) are tourists who think they should be treated more special than the tourist next to them. This is a professionally run; family owned business that crushes it 98 percent of the time and - just like every other place - misses once in a blue moon. Don't come in expecting to be treated like the 2nd coming, be nice, tip well, and guess what, you'll have an amazing experience with good food made with good quality ingredients with very over worked but cheerful people. And yes - I'm a local and a regular - but we tolerate you as long as you respect the folks busting their butts to make sure you have a good day. read more

We've been coming to Long Lake for several years and Freedom cafe is a great place to go. There's lake side seating outside and ample air conditioned seating inside. This visit we just stopped in for a quick bite. Our bartender Reagan was awesome and recommended the mango curry wings. I too must make the same recommendation. The wings are awesome! We got them plan and samples all of the sauce. Mango curry being the best. But if you're like me and want to get weird, combine the mango curry with the blueberry. I stand behind it. read more

For me the stars are for the location. A summer day in Maine, freedom cafe has outside seating right by the lake - can you beat that with an adult beverage? You CANT. My fam jam and I ordered nachos and the crab cakes. The crab cakes were decent but two for $15.... I would not say that they were worth that by any means, maybe $10 at most. The nachos were average we got ours with chicken, also $15 with the meat. My sister wanted guac so we added that - getting wild with our spending - as that bad boy cost $4. And what did that $4 get us? A ketchup sized plastic cup of undoubtedly sabra guacamole - I KNOW - I'm a Sabra enthusiast (their hummus though not guac). SAD. The prices are a bit over the top here for the VERY very average taste of their food. If I were to come back it'd be for a beer (can't mess that up) that I enjoy outside. read more

We were here for a Bob Marley comedy show and did not eat at the restaurant part. Love the venue overlooking Long Lake and even if you didn't bring your own chair like you were supposed to, you could have found a seat. The show was wicked awesome and great job by the staff organizing the herd to their seats or seating area. Uncle Bobby was wicked funny as usual...almost got bombed by a seagull during his show...haha. We'll have to stop by again and try the restaurant too. Parking...well...for a special event is tight. Went here w my family 6/1/24. It was a beautiful afternoon and we sat outside, they have a great backyard on the lake... our server was nice... but when I gently pointed out that there were spots of mold on the pita wedges that came with the spinach dip (gross!) she came back with the message that "the kitchen thinks it's probably just normal". It wasn't, it was mold, I know what bread mold looks and smells like. Then when my son's turkey sandwich came it was served on - wait for it - pita bread! So obviously we looked closely and sure enough, spots of mold. I showed our server, who asked if she could take the offending pieces (I assume to show the kitchen staff who were claiming that the mold was just how pita looks). My son ordered a salad to replace his sandwich. We all ate our food and went on with our day. We weren't charged for the moldy sandwich.... But we were for everything else and nothing was offered as an apology for serving moldy food except for from our server. We won't be back. Yuck. read more

We caught the end of the season and this place and one other restaurant was open. Service was ok at both, but food was not.

Really good! I had the baked seafood platter/casserole and my husband had the pork shank. Both were very tasty with good portion size. The pork was certainly fall off the bone tender and the sauce had a spicy kick. I thought the rice and green beans sides were just so-so. The wait at 7:00 on a Thursday was about 25 min. There were lots of empty tables in the street side dining room but after our wait there, we were taken to the waterside dining room. Nice views and great weather on this early May evening. Many of the local restaurants are not open yet for the season, so we appreciate this place was open. Good service. Friendly waitstaff. The grand finally was the brownie sundae. Holy moly, it was good. Warm brownie and delicious ice cream. We were stuffed but ate it all, and I wanted to lick the plate. So good. I also highly recommend the J's Coco Margarita. Sweet and delicious with a good amount of alcohol. read more
