The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly The Good - the iron door The Bad - purchase, design, and installation Freedom Iron Door (FID) states - make as many changes as you want to the design of the door before CAD sign off. The owner, Mika, was frustrated w/ the design changes & she threatened to cancel the order stating, "I don't have to put up with this." My concern was that they had my 40% deposit. After that outburst we only communicated via email. - Bluetooth lock - the project manager thought it was funny how sales never tell customers that the Bluetooth only works with a hub and hub is not included. Nothing on the paperwork indicates the need for a hub in order for that feature to work. - Installers will build wall 4.5" framing to support the 6" iron door frame - The right-side door frame over hangs an inch outside of the threshold. - once installed the painters will clean everything up (smudges, marks, etc) - o exterior side of the door has installation spray foam on the paint surface - the painter explains he does not handle that further stating, "you bought a warranty for that - right?" I was not aware the door was not warrantied. Suffice to say, the installation foam does not wipe off. Also shows spray foam around the edges of the door. o Interior side of the door had damage to the paint caused from installation - chipping, denting, black smudges, etc. - during the design phase I asked if the door will have powder coat finish - Mika' s response - YES. The 5/19 email below confirms the door was painted and does not have a powder coat finish. FID failed to notify me that they use spray paint - I work out of my home, and they filled my house with aerosol fumes for 27 minutes. I almost passed out on a business call before I realized what was happening. Had to tell the painter multiple times that he was not authorized to use aerosols inside my home. FID collection agent, Stephanie's states, "You just need to go for a walk and get some fresh air." I could not even lift my head and trying to walk is what caused the incision from a surgery 2 weeks prior to reopen. Their "bubble" was far from effective. The UGLY Lessons, - Ask your neighbors - sales said that FID installed my neighbor's door - after fact checking this statement, my neighbor used an entirely different company. Had I waited I would have used that other door company because of her glowing review. - Read reviews from multiple resources and recognize the red flag when you see employees' names as the authors of the 5star reviews for a company's product. - If you can, check with an architect - this door does not fit the wall framing so now every time I open it I wonder if the door is safe. - Check with your city permitting office - my city requires a permit be pulled when you enlarge a door. - Sadly, it may be best to record every conversation and video the install. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! The door itself looks great and appears to be high quality. Unfortunately, the experience with Freedom Iron Doors was extremely disappointing. Our original contract included a glass-opening feature. During the process, Mika created revised work orders that removed that feature without our knowledge. When the door was installed, it did not include what we had originally agreed to. When we raised the issue with the owners, instead of working with us toward a solution, they threatened to place a lien on our home because we withheld a portion of the payment due to the installation not matching the contract. Even more concerning, we were told that if we did not pay the full amount, our house could be vandalized. That type of response was shocking and completely unprofessional. For the amount of money spent, the customer service was unacceptable. They showed zero interest in resolving the issue or making us feel like valued customers. Ironically, the door itself gets a lot of compliments. Seven or eight families who have visited our home have asked for the company name because they liked the look of it and were considering something similar. Had our wood front door with a transom and side lights replaced with a steel door manufactured by Freedom Iron Doors. Ordered in October and installed in late March. I sketched out a design, after visiting their Carrolton location and seeing various options. They captured the concept perfectly and I find the quality of the final product to be very good. The door has been installed now for almost two months and is working well. We often get compliments on the new door. They did make me nervous a few times during the process. Their communication style is a little different than mine and at times I had to prod them to provide a update or get things scheduled. But at the end of the process they came through with quality and a nice installation. The design features removable magnetic solar screens in the sidelights and the door, it is the depth of my existing walls (10"), all three windows open and it is slightly wider than typical, to make moving items in/out easier. read more

Unfortunately at this time I'm not able to recommend Freedom Iron Doors. They do not have a good working relationship with their supplier and when a problem arose with our order, Freedom Iron Door were non responsive to our inquiries and pushed blame onto others. They alleged that they had not been notified by their supplier that our door, which we were told was to be on a container from China had been arbitrarily bumped by the supplier and would be delayed further until the next ship sets sail. 3 weeks after our door was to have sailed, and after repeated attempts to inquire about its status, we still hadn't heard it was on its way (or in our case, wasn't). We were in the area where their store is located and stopped in to inquire in person and were told - "Oh, we just heard now that your door was bumped from the container and didn't sail", with a follow on comment of "sorry, it's out of our control". Furthermore, we were given a production lead time of 12 weeks, which Freedom Iron Door missed by more than 6 weeks, and we were never told that the lead time doesn't include 30 days for shipment from China to the US, followed by 2 weeks of clearing customs and transit to Texas, followed by wait list for the door to be installed. What on the surface was communicated as 12 weeks production lead time, was really closer to 20 to 22 weeks for our door to be installed. Had we known this up front we would have gone with a different supplier. Freedom Iron Doors was very deceptive. Should things change between now and when we receive our door, I'll update this review. read more

We would.definitely recommend Feeedon Iron Doors to anyone. We had been shopping around for awhile, Mike gave us our estimate which seemed very reasonable and Micah helped me design the exact doors I wanted. Although it took much longer than anticipated due to the shipping problems we've had, they kept us updated and as soon as they were in, my doors were installed in a days time. This company installed sliding folding iron doors to enclose a patio. We noticed after the first rain that water entered through the doors and puddled on the floor and that wind could be felt blowing through the spaces between the panels. They told us that that was to be expected, but we told them that by definition the doors should prevent entry of water and excessive wind. The installation crew also failed to use proper fasteners on the hinges which resulted in rusting. Freedom then sent out a crew of painters to repaint the doors and they painted with a flat black rather than the original gloss. This process was repeated twice and resulted in an uneven finish and damage to the glass of one panel from a finishing tool. They also installed adhesive door seals that did reduce the water and air entry, but came loose and hung out on the ends when the doors were opened and closed. The company that Freedom sent out to make repairs acknowledged the damage to the glass and indicated that it needed to be replaced. They also informed me that part of the lack of an adequate seal was that one panel was damaged(bent) and showed me where the installation crew had recut and moved the latching mechanism in order to get the door to latch. The owner has refused to replace the damaged panel and glass and has offers to weld a piece of metal over the bent section to achieve a seal. Freedom doors contract indicates that they are not responsible for damage done by a third party, but they send out the installers and we don't even know what company they are from. Be ware. We have faced repeated delays and denials by this company and can not recommend them for sales and installation. read more
