Blackened Chicken Sandwich
Zach M.

Overall a great sports bar with ample amounts of TVs to catch any game. Swung by for the NCAA tournament and they had the sound for the games on (huge plus imo), great beer specials and very affordable food. Sandwich was delicious and the salads were huge! Friendly and attentive wait staff as well. 2 great covered patios with heaters, TVs and plenty of outdoor space. Whether you're going for an event, to catch a game or just a casual lunch/dinner in Wesley area - it's worth checking out!

Love this sports bar! They have a free parking lot. They have tons of TVs inside and outside. Great drink selection. For food our group ordered the fried pickles and buffalo chicken dip which were both great and 20 wings: sweet chili, garlic parmesan, sriracha, mango habanero. All the wings were delicious!! Definitely would return when in the Charlotte area.

Loved this place! Both the burger and sandwich were fantastic! Service was both friendly and quick. The bartender was super attentive and kept checking in with us. Would highly recommend! Great atmosphere to watch sports.

This is great!!

Our server was quick to say hello and seemed knowledgeable about the menu and the area. I ordered the Nashville chicken without the sauce, hubs getting the French Dip. A very chill location, though we are outside. I do not know what inside is like.

Went to this spot on a whim and it gave what it needed to give. True tavern vibes with plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. There are TVs all over the room so you can watch any sports game there. The service was great, and the food didn't take long once ordered. I just ordered appetizers this night and had a couple beers. They do have different drink specials every day of the week. Food was tasty and filling. Nice little spot in the Charlotte area.

We were headed by for a quick sandwich but we ended up sitting at a table perfectly angled to see the two top games of today! Eagles vs. Commanders and Panthers vs. Vikings. We got all our drinks fast and cold and all our food hot and fast! We tried the onion rings and the Sriracha hot wings. I think these are the best wings I have had so far in Charlotte (I know, but trust me) crispy, moist, meaty and dripping with glistening sausy flavor goodness! The onion rings seemed to be breaded in a special seasoned batter that sets them apart from others and they were crispy with a tender onion ring inside. My new favorite spot to watch the football, great crowd, affordable drinks and tasty snacks! I would love to see them expand the dessert menu to have a few treats to celebrate if our team won.

Decided to venture out of the sea of mediocrity otherwise known as the Ballantyne sports bar scene, and boy am I glad I did as Freemore Tavern single-handedly renewed my faith in the sports bar scene here in Charlotte. The service was quick, efficient and friendly from start to finish, including the manager sitting down to get my thoughts and actually listening to my opinions, which was a refreshing change from the typical manager drive by's at most places. The wings were nice and hot and full of flavor, and they were also nice and big, not puny like some other places here in town. And last but not least, they are actually embracing being a sports bar as they are committed to playing sound and not generic music during games this football season. Yeah, it's kind of a haul from Ballantyne, but given that it's only a short quarter mile walk from BofA stadium, we will definitely be making this our pregame spot before the Heels game Labor Day weekend, and I fully expect to make the trip back more than a few Saturdays this season, as this place has the potential to be the "cheers bar" I have been searching for. Very well done, Freemore Tavern, and welcome to the Five Star Club!

Shrimp po boy

I usually would not get a shrimp po boy at a place like this but I'm glad I did. It was the Thursday lunch special for 12$. The sandwich overall was decent, but the sauce is what made it. It was spicy and bold with every bite. Fried were typical. Not bad for a lunch spot. Our waitress was quick and efficient. Definitely seems like a night spot to drink at but the place was cool for a lunch.

This place was pretty empty for a bar on a Friday night around 9-10pm We decided to sit outside which was peaceful but they definitely need to have some fans blowing for when it's hotter during the day The food was pretty good for bar food (6.5/10). I enjoyed the veggie quesadilla (and they have cholula for hot sauce ) Good service - staff was on top of it (but maybe because we were the only ones sitting outside?)

We decided to give FreeMore a try for lunch. It gets 4 stars just for quick friendly service! This spot has the potential to be family friendly, but the uncensored music could be a bit much for young kids, or for families that don't listen to parental advisory music. I found some of it to be a bit offensive. Maybe too much for lunch time on a weekday. Our server was really nice, attentive, and professional. We tried the Philly cheesesteak and Southwest chicken egg rolls, Mac n cheese, and loaded tater tots. All of the food was fresh and piping hot. The egg rolls were both very good. The Philly was better with ranch than the queso they come with. The Southwest were appropriately spicy and the spicy ranch was an extra kick. If you can't do too much spice, I'd suggest going with regular ranch. Loaded tater tots, need I say more?! Crunchy, cheesy, bacony goodness. I asked for a side of sour cream and green onions. I got the sour cream, but was bummed they don't have green onions or chives. My guest enjoyed the Mac n cheese. I'll definitely be back to try some of their great looking salads, and get some more loaded tater tots.

Our table of four rolled up right before closing (15 min late to our reservation) and we were able to be seated with a gentle reminder that the kitchen would be closing soon (totally understandable). We were taken care of swiftly and didn't feel rushed at all (we tried to be considerate. We were one of two or three tables at this point of the night). I've had takeout from here before and liked it (one of the Thai dishes). My veggie sushi roll when I dined was perfect. Service was perfect. The only thing I wished for was a few more vegan options on the menu as I expect a little more variety at an Asian fusion restaurant. Cute front patio set up too, when al fresco dining is on the brain.

When we arrived, I told the hostess that I was back for more after having such a great experience with the food truck. She informed me that the restaurant was not affiliated with the food truck, but added that they were even better. I ordered the same dish I had at the food truck, Drunken Noodles with Chicken, and my boy ordered a ramen soup of some sort (I can't remember the exact name). When the food arrived, I wasn't overly impressed. My dish wasn't bad, but it just didn't have the same flavor or wow factor as what I had from the food truck. My boy wasn't a fan of his soup either. He commented that the ramen noodles looked like the kind you can buy at the grocery store. The flavor wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good enough for him to eat much of it, and he didn't even want to take the leftovers home. Overall, I'd call it an average dining experience. The food was okay, but it didn't live up to my expectations, especially after such a great food truck meal. I don't plan to return.

We were looking for a place to eat before skipping town that could accommodate a small group (6…read moreadults and a baby) and a dog. We went across the street and they didn't allow dogs on the patio so a quick Yelp search led us to Jack Beagles. With a dog in the name, I figured it would be dog friendly and I was right... it's event dog friendly inside which was great since we had the baby and it was hot out. They were happy to seat us in the dining room and since breakfast was about to end and lunch was about to start, we had the option of both. Some ordered breakfast and a few of us order the tenders because our server said it was one of the most popular items. I don't normally go for tenders at a new place, but they had garlic parm which drew me in. They were pretty great and served with waffle fries. My buddy got this massive burger that I was eyeing as well and I had a little bit of food envy when it came out. It was called The Big Bear and was sporting 2 Patties, 2 X Bacon, 2 x White American Cheese, Pickled Jalapeno, and Chipotle Aioli. I would definitely try that next time. Only odd thing was that when the burger came out, my buddy asked for a knife other than a butter knife to cut it since it was so big. Instead of offering to bring it to the kitchen to cut it, she came out from the back to say they don't have any steak knives and the only sharp ones are with the cook. No big deal, but a little odd. Anyway, we had a great lunch before hitting the road that accommodated all of our needs.

Our visit happened to be during Charlotte Hot Chicken Week so of course we had to try their special! For only $8 you could get the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. It was really good! The Chicken was nice and crispy, not too spicy and the thick cut pickles really brought it all together. Also enjoyed were the Botz burger and cheese fries. I loved how they choose to serve waffle fries over regular fries. There is just so much texture and flavor going on there. They have a big menu of mac and cheese dishes that sound super interesting so maybe we'll try that next!

Luckily we snagged a spot and walked over to the lake area. We were seated quickly and our server took drink orders and gave us a chance to review the large menu. There is lots to choose from but, we decided on shrimp tacos. We tried the chipotle tacos and the grilled shrimp tacos. Both were very good. You get a choice of sides, and we tried the Mexican street corn salad and the Mac and cheese. I wasn't a huge fan of the corn salad. It was served cold, but I wasn't really a fan of the taste. The Mac and cheese looked creamy and gooey and was told it was really good. Next time I will order a different side. The atmosphere here is bright and lively with a nice view of the water where you can take paddle boat rides. People love to walk over here, so it is nice to have an open view. The restaurant has a tiki bar vibe and has surfing theme throughout the place. Really fun and relaxing. This is a great stop if you are in the area, expect to circle the lot a bit on the weekends, but the food and atmosphere are great here. We will definitely return to Boardwalk Billy's.

The waffle was a little dry and the chicken was average. The veggie omelet was excellent and I enjoyed the fillings. I'm not a potato fan, but my friend enjoyed the potatoes. The biscuit was standard too but complemented the veggie omelet well. I'd say the star of the show were the fried French toast sticks- they were hot, sweet, and hit the spot perfectly.
