The River Crab is a St. Clair staple. It's a beautiful location on the St Clair River just below the mouth of the Huron and the Blue Water Bridges. The river seems to sit just beyond your table. Freighters float by and it is a site to see. (If you live here you take for granted how cool this is!) often on summer comings you can find live music either at the indoor bar (which has large group high top tables) or out on the deck a band or solo acoustic set! I have images from two different visits in this review. Managed well this restaurant has great food and good service. Been here a number of times and honestly it's usually high class for the region. On this occasion our party of three had cedar planked salmon, red snapper and shrimp, lemon scented salmon with corn salsa and black beans. We also had a wedge salad, seafood bake appetizer and cup of clam chowder. The chowder is a staple and has lots of chunks of potatoes and clams. Wedge salad is good- not in my top 5 but certainly in the top 10. Made right/ great blue cheese dressing! Personally the red snapper and shrimp was lovely. Crusted with Parmesan cheese the red snapper had a nice exterior. I had double veg and appreciated the asparagus. All the food was great the appetizer was awesome. I could have eaten about 10 more shells with that lovely seafood cheese and butter dream. So head on up or down the river and enjoy a nice night! This is situated with a hotel on property. On a work trip and stopped in for lunch while staying nearby. The view was definitely the star of the show! Sitting by the river with that scenery made for a really nice, relaxed meal. The waitress was super friendly and helpful, and she gave some good insight when deciding what to order. The rest of the staff, not so much as a warm hello or goodbye. Definitely made me feel unappreciated as a customer. There was also an ongoing issue that the other staff were arguing about loudly for several minutes. I started with the meatballs, and they were delicious! For my main, I went with the Cajun chicken tortellini. It was good, but I was definitely hoping for more of that Cajun kick. The flavor was a little mild for what I was expecting. I finished with the key lime pie, which was sweeter than I prefer and not quite as creamy or tangy as I was hoping for. Still enjoyable. Overall, it was a laid-back experience. The food was decent, but the river view really made it worth the stop. I'd come back mainly for the scenery, especially if I had someone who wanted a meal with a view! More of a date night spot. read more

Had a reservation and the hostess said if we could wait 5 minutes or so she could seat us by the windows!!! Of course we will wait, went to the bar ordered our drinks did a toast and the hostess told us our table was ready! Wait staff came quickly and said she would be right with us as she had other tables that required her attention - that gave us time to look at the menu and decide on an entree. She was back moments later and seemed that every item we had selected was either not available or short on one part of the dish. She made suggestions that were most helpful and we ordered our second choice entrees. Waitress said they had been extremely busy and many large groups had been served the items that we originally wanted. We got our food in a timely manner and was delicious. Crab Cakes were on point, Dynamite Mahi Mahi was outstanding and the Chicken schnitzel was above average. Desert was Carrot Cake ala mode, it was delicious but over priced. For an additional few dollars we could have purchased another entree! Yes, we will go back but not for the desert. read more

We recently visited The River Crab with a party of 10 to celebrate my wife's occasion, and it was a fantastic experience. We had a reservation, and our table was preset and ready when we arrived. The service was impeccable--though the staff was a bit young, they were super well-trained. The restaurant itself has a cozy, homey vibe, just the kind of place you want to spend your money on a smaller business that really delivers. For appetizers, we had the scallop entrée and oysters, both of which were amazing. The drinks were top-notch as well. I ordered a New York strip, and it was one of the best hand-cut steaks I've had in a while. I also saw the halibut, which looked delicious. It's definitely on the pricier side--our visit cost about $1200--but overall, it was a premium experience that couldn't have been better. Easter Sunday brunch at the River Crab has been a tradition for my family for many years. But what we experienced this year, has brought that tradition to a close. Many of the food items that have been on the brunch line were eliminated. Also a family favorite in the past has been the biscuits and gravy. My husband best described the gravy as S.O.S., the stuff that the Army used to serve. Even the coffee was bad. We left with the feeling that there was just no effort put into the brunch. And to add insult to injury, they again raised the price to $60 for adults, and $30 for children. We are now searching for a new restaurant for our Easter brunch. read more

I just didn't think the food was quite as great as the service and the restaurant. We ordered the almond/apple brie as an appetizer and it did not disappoint - a bit more bread with it would have been great. I ordered the lemon chicken and it wasn't what I had hoped for. It was delicious; however, it was very heavy on mushrooms, very light on artichokes and just not quite lemony enough. The mashed potatoes were delicious. My husband had the coconut shrimp - he enjoyed the shrimp, but not the sauce. Overall it was a wonderful dinner. read more

(restaurant) in Marine City out ranks this place by far. River Crab management thinks they can still ride off the Joe Muer reputation. They are sadly mistaking. I live very near the River Crab and wouldn't go there even if they gave me free meals. Snobby, uppity & pretentious. Update to my reviews, I decided to try something different from my usual pasta dish and Wowza....the River Crab knocked it out of the park with the Alaskan Halibut. I'm still thinking about the sauces paired with the Halibut, fantastic! I would recommend serving whole asparagus to offset the entree and possibly rice to add substance to the entree! Service slow probably because there was a wedding out on the deck. But fairly empty inside only 1/2 full. Ordered prime rib with crabcake. My prime rib was barely warm, my potatoes, barely warm. The butter wouldn't melt on them by time they brought me the butter . The prime rib had great taste but cold. The horseradish was like sour cream. I asked if they had better horseradish, she finally came back with the horseradish. I only had two bites left of prime rib . I hate cold food. soup barely warm But the clam chowder was so delicious. One of the best clam chowder soups I've ever ever had . The waitress was super super nice very gracious. Over the years our family started a tradition where I, my wife and her siblings would gather at the River Crab around major family events such as weddings or funerals. Last night was one of the happy ones - an upcoming wedding. We had our regular location at the south end of the porch. When we made the reservation, my wife had been told they no longer had the long table we were accustomed to, but when we arrived, our regular spot was waiting for us as the Manager,Haley, had arranged to combine three smaller tables. That was just the beginning of a memorable dining experience. Our Server, Allie, was the perfect accompaniment to a perfect meal. All ten dinners arrived on time. One guest had requested noodles rather than the risotto that was listed on the menu. The dish was initially served with the risotto, but Allie quickly remedied the situation with a big dish of noodles when asked. We all stayed well past the meal enjoying each other's company, the magnificent view of the river and probably, but hopefully not, disturbing nearby diners. In short, it was the continuation of a wonderful tradition that I hope will be continued in the future at this great restaurant. read more

Have enjoyed several meals at River Crab. Don't skip appetizers; they are outstanding. A good assortment of cocktail choices as well. The inside is a little more traditional, with great views of the traffic on the St. Clair River, but it's also great dining outside alongside the dock, quite scenic on a summer evening. I'm quite stunned that the only restaurant where I'm a club member does not contain a review from me! I've had some so-so experiences here over the years, but this last trip did not disappoint! Everything that I had was absolutely exquisite. I had the prime rib along with mashed potatoes and started with a wedge salad. The wedge salad is one of the best that I've had And the prime rib was cooked to perfection. I didn't even need to use my A1 addiction to make it taste better. They had in their records that I had had a birthday recently, so they gave me a small dessert on the house, which was just delightful Our server was very kind, helpful, and attentive. If you have never been to the River Crab, it's right on the river with the option for outdoor seating. But they have large windows so you can watch the St. Clair River, or watch the freighters going by. They sometimes have a piano player as they did on this night. They have a very extensive wine menu and some specialty cocktails that are worth checking out as well There's just really a lot to recommend this place as a destination. When the kitchen is on this is as good a place as you can find in the area. And I was very pleased! read more

St Clair's River Crab Inn offers some great meals for an upscale experience, and the best thing about the experience is the best service and superb ambiance! I enjoyed the taste of the shrimp and artichoke linguine, which is a nice savory dish with a pizzazz for spice and texture! Our waitress was very attentive and friendly with our experience. We had: HALIBUT & SHRIMP CEVICHE* watermelon, avocado, serrano pepper, plantain chips $16.50 (I never would have thought to serve this with plantains, but they seemed to be a perfect accompaniment.) CHILLED GAZPACHO sour cream, croutons $9 (I skipped the croutons--I loved the refreshing flavor of this. It's different from what I had in Spain, given that the vegetables were finely chopped instead of blended in.) PARMESAN SNAPPER & SHRIMP encrusted snapper fillet, garlic-herb sautéed shrimp, coconut ginger rice, asparagus $35 (We ended up with mashed potatoes instead of the rice on the menu...no idea why.) KING COVE SOLE lump crab, parmesan crust, lemon caper beurre blanc, coconut ginger rice, asparagus $28 (Delicious, although I liked the snapper better and again mashed potatoes instead of rice.) I also loved the hot rolls and whitefish pate that accompanied our meal. This place has ambiance in spades. The wall of windows overlooking the river are perfect. I loved the music that the pianist was playing during our visit. I also appreciated that, while the restaurant is quite nice, you don't have to be super dressed up to eat here. The service? Our waitress was attentive and super pleasant. We tried the ceviche last night which was quite different than other ceviche I've had before, and she wanted our opinion on it because it was new to the menu. I appreciated that she asked what we thought about the ceviche. Rounded down from 4.5 stars because I would have preferred a heads up about the mashed potatoes...might have tried to get a different substitute. For appetizers we got the dynamite shrimp and firecracker shrimp both were DELICIOUS. Wish there was more shrimp but I'll keep dreaming. I also had the New England clam chowder, it was very good, fresh potatoes, lots of clams that weren't gummy and lots of other stuff too like bacon and etc, not the usual clam chowder you have in Boston, this one had lots of things to make you fuller. There was a 3 course dinner special which I think is a good deal though I didn't partake, but first course gives you option of either Caesar salad (which I heard the dressing was too watery) or the chowder (and some other choices). The entree which is the 2nd course is so good, it was snapper with shrimp and omg..I wish I got that! It blew my seafood trio out of the water. I felt my salmon in the trio was over cooked, but the shrimp and crab cake was good. The rice isn't anything special, didn't taste like coconut rice as it stated. The vegetable it came with was broccoli which was a bit over done. The filet was good, the s/o liked it. He also got a glass of Duckhorn merlot at $35 a glass. The creme brûlée was mmmm mm good. The drinks are nice, I had a new old fashion and also the patron agave Rita which is a bit sweet but still good. Service was fine, she came every so often to check on us. We had a view of the water though it was dark so you really couldn't see much. The lunch specials look nice! It's definitely pricy, but it's seafood and we're sort of in the midwest so you pay for what you get. Just don't get the salmon. read more

We came here for the first time for Our wedding anniversary. We Made 5:15 PM reservations to help ensure that we would get a table by the window so we could see boats and freighters go by. It was during the week and the weather was really kind of dismal so we didn't see many boats but we had a great view of a couple of freighters coming through. I got the grilled salmon and had to do some substitutions. I am not a fan of coconut so I swapped out the coconut rice for french fries. I also swapped out broccoli for asparagus. I really enjoyed the sear on the salmon but it was a tad over cooked. But I understand why it was that way, most people do not like a more rare salmon (which, in my opinion, is the best way to eat salmon). read more

I visited your restaurant Friday, August 8th with a reservation for four at 6:30pm. We were celebrating our friend's retirement and you are his favorite restaurant. We started with four cocktails and about 15 minutes later ordered four appetizers and four entrees. Thirty minutes later the waitress asked if we would like another round of drinks. No bread basket, no appetizers, no apology for the delay. Our bill would have been about $500 instead we decided to pay for our drinks and leave. A gentleman, manager perhaps told me the kitchen was backed up and offered to pickup the cost of our appetizers. Not overly helpful since we had already decided to leave. The service standard at this restaurant simply continues to decline. If you want to have a $500 ticket you need to have $500 service. My last three experiences have been equally disappointing. Having worked in food service in a management and front of house capacity, I would never have sent these people out the door with a bill unless I never wanted them to return. read more

Our waiter (hi Tyler) was sullen and dismissed a severe food allergy, saying he could "almost promise" it wouldn't be an issue then failed to ask the chef. My drink was ordered with ice & lime but came with neither. (Thx for noticing, Tyler.) The sole was just wimpy, no texture, kinda sodden and leaden. That rice in a pyramid? So 1960s. The salad? Overly dressed and just forgettable except for its charmlessness and tough shrimp. The cheesecake tasted old. Coffee was splashed into the saucer (that you again, Tyler?) . A huge fan blew cold air under the table. Carpet smelled wet and moldy. Bench near restrooms smells ... I dunno, poopy? But!! Pianist old-school lovely! Chowder hit the spot. And yeah, the view on the water if you're lucky to get a table on that side. So not ALL bad but for a $100/person dinner (2 soups, 2 entrees, 1 wine, 1 beer, 1 dessert) it could and should be so much More Better. Frankly I'd have MUCH preferred another $12 quesadilla (big enough for two) from the Tap Cafe back in St Clair. read more

She went out of her way to take care of us. Kudos to her for not rushing us, explaining a lot about the menu, and having a great sense of humor. THE NOT SO GOOD NEWS. I was treating my friend for his birthday. We went for an early dinner and happy hour which starts at 3. When we arrived, the hostess informed us that we could only get happy hour drink prices if we sat in the bar. Are you kidding me? The entire outdoor eating area had exactly TWO tables occupied. I was really disappointed because I wanted it to be special for my friend, so I opted for seating outside anyway. BUT I was steamed about this "policy" of theirs. ***I SPENT OVER $180 for two of us (one cocktail each, an iced tea, an entree with nothing added, no coffee, no dessert) and they're worried about CHARGING ME FULL PRICE FOR A COUPLE OF DRINKS? I really don't get it. I hadn't been to River Crab in about three years and I was so looking forward to it. as As I said, the meal was good, but that's a LOT of money to be told we had to eat in the dark bar if we wanted happy hour, especially since the patio was basically empty.
