Excellent food every time. This has become our favorite restaurant to go to just before we head to a show at Boston Opera House. I typically order the Sang de l'orange which is a mezcal drink with passionfruit puree and blood orange juice. It's delicious. Dishes not-to-be-missed include: Red Beans and Rice Creole Jumbalaya Shrimp and Grits Popcorn shrimp appetizer - careful, don't ruin your appetite for the main course Cornbread is also a miss - too dry I have had the Crawfish Moniqua on two separate occassions and the first time found it to be stellar and the second time around it wasn't very well spiced and was just mediocre. I'd say you could probably skip that dish since it's not a consistent experience each time. Could also skip the beignets - they are nothing to write home about. This restaurant was OK. To be honest, I would rate it a 3.5 if I could. We ordered the hush puppies which were the best part of our dinner, they were absolutely delicious. We also ordered the crab cake sandwich which was rather small. We also ordered the fried fish and fries. The fried fish batter definitely needed some seasoning. The fries were good. A friend recommended this restaurant some time ago and we finally were together in the city at the same time to finally check them out. Our waitress was new, I think her name was Reid/Reese. It was her first day and she did great! Apps - we had the popcorn shrimp and they were really good. Not to much batter and not overly done. The dipping sauce that it came with, was just okay. Entrees - my friend had the shrink and grits and said it was really good and filling. I had the fried catfish and asked to sub fries for the corn maque choux, I wasn't sure what to expect but it was tasty. The piece of fish itself was larger than I anticipated, def will be able to take some to go. Drinks - The hurricane was very Todd and strong, they did not skimp on the liquor was great. Also had a ginger ale which was flat tasting. Dessert - we shared the banana foster bread pudding which has a display of the flambé at the table, awesome! The bread pudding lacked texture and was too much for my liking and wasn't served hot but more cool which I personally am not a fan of. When we arrived for our 6pm reservation the restaurant wasn't too busy, within half hour that quickly changed. Because the surrounding area has many plays/shows that tend to start between 7/8pm they can fill up quickly so make a reservation! All in all, great location for parking and or public transit. Bringing a taste of Louisiana to Boston, French Quarter is located right by the Paramount in the heart of downtown Boston. I was recommended this location by a coworker who swore by the restaurant, and I have to say it did not disappoint. The ambience of the restaurant is fitting with its theme, suave and moody but also quite hip, and there are plenty of bar seats as well as booths/tables available for both small and big parties. The service was friendly and attentive as the server (and at one point the manager?) came by often to ask if we needed anything else. All the foods we ordered were ordered were served in a reasonable amount of time AND they were delicious. I devoured the NOLA hot chicken sandwich, which thankfully was not too spicy with a perfectly cooked crispy chicken. I think I can also assume my friend enjoyed her shrimp & grits as she cleared her enitre skillet. Overall, we had a nice authentic taste of the South and very much enjoyed our meal. One of my favorite spots in the area. The place has a nice vibe and never gets too crowded, plus the decor is neat. Not much of a drinker these days but it's rare that a French 75 is on a menu around here, and it's a good one. The food is universally excellent and I bring both friends and business associates here because (aside from a vegetarian, I think) it's hard for somebody to go wrong with a dish here. The etouffee's one of my favorites and the creole-seasoned burger is hard to argue with. Desserts seem pretty good too, though I've never bought one here; when I ran into the owner on the way back from the bathroom (which is a trip and a half to get to, via the dedicated elevator--it's fun watching people's reactions the first time they visit) I'd mentioned we go pretty regularly and he sent us over some beignets, which we sure didn't mind! read more

It was okay, good for fixing a craving but very middle of the road. The servers are kind and attentive, ours gave us extra rice for free with the gumbo. They were also accommodating for us being 20 min late for our reservation. We ordered the Fried Okra, Lost Toast, Fish & Chips, and Gumbo Ya Ya. The portions are BIG. The best dish was the Lost Toast. Nothing else was too special. The gumbo had a strong smoky flavor and hard old bits of sausage. Watch out if you hate the sliminess of okra, skip the fried okra in that case. Unfortunately, I don't believe the food was the best quality as we ended up getting food poisoning from our dinner and that's what knocked it from 3 to 2 stars for me. read more

Everything was pretty great, I think overall it was an 8.5/10. Here are the highlights- -Service was spectacular! Matt was super friendly and helpful. -Cornbread was what dreams are made of. -Beignets were perfection. -Portions were huge. -Onion rings were surprisingly great. I'm usually not a fan but the dipping sauce was delicious. Downfalls- -The crab fingers have CLAWS still attached so watch out for that. I accidentally bit into the claw on my first bite so that was unfortunate. - Most of the food (specifically the jambalaya and crawfish mojo) was tasty but didn't blow me away. - desserts (besides the beignets) fell flat in my opinion. Pecan Pie is my favorite dessert of all time, and I took one bite out of theirs and left the rest on the table. It tasted more like a chocolate pie with lemon ice cream. French Quarter was our best meal in Boston! The cajun & creole cuisine here is the real NOLA deal, and it's supplemented by a comfortable and fun ambiance and fantastic and friendly service. The crawfish étouffée was the star, and the hot chicken was delicious as well. The jambalaya had delicious crispy rice on the top and was filed with flavor and lots of sausage and shrimp (with skin on, so watch out!). Beyond food, they have many unique cocktails with funky twists, so come with your creative juices and open mind! And for desserts, the beignets are to die for. Overall, 4.5 stars but rounded up because of the excellent service. Went to French Quarter on a Tuesday night around 6:30 and there were only a few tables occupied. They do check vaccination cards upon arrival. For cocktails, we ordered the cane punch, the rampart, the pimms cup and the fleur di lys. Drinks are strong and tasty! Our server was even nice enough to bring us a round of green tea shots. We were definitely a little buzzed before we even got our food For appetizers, we got the fried okra & the crawfish lost bread (from the specials menu). The fried okra was one of our favorite dishes. The okra pieces were cut small enough that they were not slimy & the dipping sauce was the perfect pair. The crawfish lost bread was kind of like a buffalo dip on a piece of toast. It was alright, but nothing too special. The first main dish we shared was the NOLA hot fried chicken. The chicken was spicy, tangy and crunchy. It came with four pieces and a heaping mound of salad. Pretty good! The second dish was the shrimp étouffée. It reminded me of a corn chowder with some rice. It was a bit on the salty side and the shrimp pieces were small, but overall still good. Our favorite main dish was the creole jambalaya. It had a tomato base and the sausage & shrimp paired so well with the rice. This was the perfect amount of food for four people! Yuuuum. I wanted fries chicken and we were staying overnight in Boston. It was freeeeezing but lucky for us this place was across the street from our hotel. They had booths and plenty of tables available. I'm sure on nights with shows playing it can be more crowded. Ambiance was a hair more upscale than casual. There was a family with a rowdy kid next to us and the vibe was def more restaurant than lounge. It was a nice middle of the road vibe, contemporary and a little fun but also comfy and well lit. Service was good and attentive. Food came out at a good pace. The bar was a hair slow on drinks. Great cocktail menu. I had a classic sazerac and husband had a medical cocktail with berries that was delicious. We got the Lost Bread app, which was a meal itself. It was like the most delicious open face tuna melt, except with crab. The rustic bread was crunch and soft inside and just loaded with fresh crab. Husband got shrimp etoufee which was layered with flavor and a rich, savory sauce. They did use those little tiny baby shrimp, for the cost I think it should have been better quality. I had the hot chicken. WOW do you get a huge plate!!! The salad was delicious and a really solid balance. I didn't think the chicken was hot enough, so I would suggest asking for it extra spicy if you can. I added Crystal's and it got the job done fine. Came here for brunch after realizing that every cafe in the Downtown Boston area is packed on weekend mornings (rookie mistake). We walked by French Quarter and were enticed by the menu and the lack of a wait time and settle on dining here. We started with the corn muffin ($7) which was delicious and served with honey butter, but was nothing special. I got the shrimp and grits which were so flavorful and the grits were perfectly prepared. My friend got the jambalaya which was rich and delicious. The prices of these dishes were a bit high for what they were, so I likely wouldn't come back here too often because of that, but the food was great. The service was also excellent. Our waitress was super helpful in working with us to navigate the menu, and the food was brought out quick! All in all, a great experience, just a bit pricier than I think this is worth, likely due to the location of this restaurant. read more

My first time at French Quarter did not disappoint! The decor was adorable - very New Orleans. The staff and servers were all so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the menu. I should warn you, I was in New Orleans itself less than a month ago. While I didn't eat at any Michelin star restaurants there, French Quarter had some tough competition. Unfortunately, it did not measure up in more ways than one. I believe this place is a little bit more about the experience than about actual quality and authentic New Orleanian food. For a drink, I ordered the Hurricane. This one was pretty nice! It wasn't too sweet and was somewhat refreshing. The cocktail itself wasn't too boozy, but when I got to the bottom of the glass, it was almost straight booze! I'm not sure if they use a 151 floater or just didn't mix it too well, but the one cocktail was enough to have me happy for the rest of the night. One of the friends I was with ordered the Cane River Punch, which he enjoyed! It also came with a small floating thing, which the server sprinkled something over to make sparks. Though he ended up accidentally extinguishing it. Oops. My friend did really enjoy the cocktail, though! For appetizers, we ordered the "Voodoo Fried Okra" and "Bon Temps Popcorn Shrimp." Neither of these was something to write home about, at least not in the positive. For the fried okra, they were uninspired, small, lightly battered, fried okra pieces. The sauce reminded me more of tzatziki, but if y'all want to call it aioli, be my guest. Where it comes to the popcorn shrimp, however, the naming convention starts to carry some meaning. The shrimp themselves are redux of the fried okra, small, lightly battered pieces of shrimp (w/o tails). However, calling the sauce creole is almost insulting (please let me know if I'm wrong). It reminded me much more of an, albeit pleasant, buffalo sauce. Then came the travesty carrying the name of Jambalaya. This was a bowl of tomato-y seeming rice, with bits of chicken, sausage, and shrimp (tail on). Especially compared to the flavorful, full-of-spice rice I had in NOLA, the flavors were muted (and a tad acidic). The sausage was tasty, but the chicken was beyond uninspired and having plain, tail-on shrimp on the plate really didn't help things either. I'd like to mention at this point, one of my friends ordered the Shrimp Étouffée, but was brought out Shrimp and Grits instead. We alerted the waiter, who took the Étouffée away and brought out the Shrimp and Grits not too long after. However, when the check came, my friends were not thrilled that there was nothing comped due to my friend having to sit there and watch us eat for a bit. Where it came to desserts, we tried the Pecan Pie and allegedly famous Bread Pudding. The pecan pie was good, but I did not enjoy the integration of grated dark chocolate. There are places where it enhances flavor greatly, but this was not one of them. The flavors and textures of the pie and chocolate ended up muting each other out. Where it came to the bread pudding, other than a flaming liquid of some kind being poured over, this had solid flavor but nothing to set it aside in any way. Again, you'd come here for the experience, to see fire on your plate and above your drink, not to eat good that is "fire" in its taste. read more

I think the fried okra was really my favorite is appetizer. I couldn't stop eating it. We also ordered their red beans with rice and their cheese grits. The pecan pie was absolutely delicious topped with a scoop of butter milk ice cream which I thought was vanilla. To me it tasted sour sort of turned me off a bit but combined with the pie it was delicious. I really wanted to come back here again to but we were only there for a few nights. This is one of the best Cajun restaurants outside of actual New Orleans and can stand up to some of the best there. The staff are great and our server Russell was fantastic - attentive, friendly, and ready with food recos. The seating is also very spacious and comfortable; even the bathroom is unique as you have to take an elevator down to them. If you are in Boston, be sure to try this new gem in the Theater District. Some highlights: 1. Crawfish Etouffee: This was my favorite dish with a complex yet cohesive blend of flavors and spices in a creamy and savory thick roux filled with plump crawfish tails, topped with a dollop of white rice. I could have eaten another full plate - this is a must-try. 2. Gumbo Ya Ya: We ordered an appetizer size but even that was a very generous portion. Be sure to add the okra for an extra $1. The roux was very flavorful with plenty of chicken and sausage, topped with a dollop of rice. The texture was perfect - not too thick or thin. 3. Jambalaya: Very solid version of the classic with juicy chicken, smokey pork sausage slices, and tender jumbo shrimp. The rice was perfectly cooked and reflected a great balance of spices without actual saltiness - this was more of a umami savoriness. 4. Shrimp and grits: I am not a huge grits fan but loved the version here! The cheesy grits were a perfect base for the jumbo, succulent, cajun-seasoned shrimp. Be sure to get the bottom scrapings of the grits - the charred grits and cheese is the best. 5. Braised greens: Solid version seasoned with Tasso ham and just the perfect level of acidity. A nice complement for the richer, creamier dishes. 6. Banana foster bread pudding: This is a must-try dessert with a tableside flambe. This was lighter than it looks and had the perfect amount of sweetness from the caramelized sugar. Definitely get this! read more
