Was intrigued by this place that serves Cajun and Louisiana food. I had wished that the dishes were done more faithfully to the originals that I'm accustomed to based on my experiences eating and making this cuisine. The popcorn shrimp appetizer was fine and might actually be the best item I had. The shrimp batter was flavorful and the inside shrimp were moist and spongy. The gumbo seemed quite watery, confirming others' critiques on the textures of the stew. The roux didn't seem to be done properly to make the base thicker. [Admittedly there are various ways to do a roux but this seemed quite watery.] The crawfish etoufee had an ok flavor though definitely could have been spicier and could have added more complexity. Crucially the sauce was also much more watery than I'm used to. And the crawfish bites themselves were really small and tough. This seems to be a sourcing problem, though the crawfish could have been cooked for a shorter amount of time. The addition of corn was a bit odd ... not entirely unlikeable but a bit of a surprise. The rice could be a bit stickier, and the allium base needed more punch. The beignets came out oddly stiff, without much air inside as they should. They almost resembled something like cakes rather than actual beignets. It's good that this restaurant is here. It's a nice place to bring a small group of people and share a meal prior to a performance downtown. The environs include some neat posters of older films set in New Orleans. The service was amazing, attentive, and warmly welcoming. The vibe was upbeat without being boisterous, class without pretention. The price points were high, but so is everything these days. Rent must be high... if those fixed costs could be lowered then perhaps more attention could be devoted to refining the recipes. read more

Very yummy Cajun-inspired restaurant in the heart of Boston. My group and I went for Saturday lunch, and surprisingly was able to get a table for 6 very easily with no wait. The food was pretty good, highly recommend the Jambalaya (though we got it without as much hot peppers - still a decent about of spice). I didn't get the bartenders name but I came on a Thursday night and he was very friendly. The restaurant is nicely decorated and makes you feel like you are in the French quarter. Food: We got a few different types of dishes, one was a fish dish, the other one was gumbo, and then two different desserts. Besides, the gumbo tasting really good, I was very impressed with how they cook the rice. Small little details in that just showed how great they made the food. Service: Unfortunately, we had waited way too long for food. A minimum of 30 to 45 minutes long from the time we had ordered our appetizers. Not to mention nobody came to our table to ask about utensils, and a couple other things. So definitely a star or two knocked off this experience. Ambiance: Definitely a transient feeling. The atmosphere was upbeat and the service was great! The starters were solid: corn bread was well flavored, but a little dry; fried okra was perfectly cooked; and the crab cake was pretty much as expected. Gumbo yaya was watery and lacked the slow cook and taste of a real gumbo. Pic attached. Jumbalaya was ok. Very tomato based, the portion of meat was astronomical. Which also is the reason why I didn't enjoy it much as there was just loads of meats and not enough rice to enjoy the dish. Onion rings and hush puppies were good. Just normal fare. Fish and chips was an interesting dish. Fish was cooked well but had a very very fishy taste. I didn't catch if it was catfish and if it was this dish was good. If it wasn't catfish well then beware. It took us to make a reservation to this restaurant. We finally got one and we're very excited to taste since i grew up in Louisiana! Everything was very salty!! From the Shrimp Etouffee to the Gumbo!! Food that are cooked well do not need to be that salty. Restaurants who over salt their food is trying to just get their patrons to drink more liquor and that's where they make the most money!! There were many decent size shrimps in the etouffee and in the gumbo there were plenty of proteins too! But due to the over saltiness we barely ate any of it! What a waste of food!! Since they have plenty of proteins I have them two stars or it would be just one star!! As for me, I want to eat my calories not to drink it!! My husband was able to get a reservation on Open Table and in that app it showed there was only one table left and when we got there, there was only one other table occupied and throughout our whole meal no one else came in! Great, a welcome surprise after reading some of the other reviews. Food, service, drinks, atmosphere all top notch. Four of us enjoyed the French Quarter prior to a comedy show. They got us in quick with a reservation- and they went the pace we were seeking. Loved the oysters and crawfish étouffée served with an ice cold Abita IPA draft. The most disappointing moment was the preshredded cheese on top of gnocchi. If a plate is close to 30 dollars, its not unreasonable to expect freshly grated cheese and perhaps a side of bread. The Resturant is super cute and visually appealing when you enter. We were straight off a flight and drinks were needed. We were all very happy with the drinks we chose; the Vieux Carre and French 75. For apps we ordered the okra, and wings. The okra was delish; perfectly fried, nicely seasoned, everything you want from fried okra. The wings good, the drumsticks were larger. I prefer all flats to avoid this but they were unable to accommodate the request. For dinner, we order chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, wedge salad with shrimp and pan seared salmon. Ambiance was welcoming and fun, not a quiet place but it was nice for my wife and I. Staff was quick with the orders and the portions were bigger than expected. The appetizers were good, especially the Brussel sprouts. Very flavorful and got a nice spicy kick to it. The jambalaya was very flavorful but it was way to spicy. I wish their menu would indicate how spicy it was and for the server to allow us to request a spice level. I also ordered the gumbo but I did not take a picture. It looked so bad and was very bland. Absolutely a must! This is located right next to the Boston Opera House, so we went right after a play for our anniversary. I booked online, which was a seamless process. They even text you reminders about your reservation. For drinks, my partner got a beer and I got the Ponchatoula cocktail. I am not a fan of heavy carbonation, so our server made it without the soda and instead brought me sides of both soda & tonic water to add if I changed my mind. The tonic water was a perfect addition and I was so happy he catered to my request! We shared the voodoo onion rings & cheese grits for appetizers. The onion rings were probably the most flavorful I've ever had, and the aioli that comes with it was BOMB. I wouldn't order the cheese grits again though; we took a few bites and asked to send it back because it was very bland. My partner ordered the hot chicken sandwich with fries for his entree and I ordered the capellini piquant pasta. We both loved our food (although he was sad that they didn't have BBQ sauce), and the portions were perfect sized. I actually took some of mine for leftovers, which I ate 2 days later and was still delicious. You know you're good at what you do when you can make a vegetarian dish just as flavorful as all the others. For dessert, we got the beignets-- light and fluffy with just the right amount of sweet. The only thing that could have made this better would be that I noted it was our anniversary in the reservation, but they didn't do anything to acknowledge it. I would also love to see another vegetarian entree so I could try something new next time! Our server Marco was kind, attentive, and made sure our waters didn't go dry. French quarter is a cute Cajun restaurant in downtown Boston. The menu is a bit limited but has good options. All Cajun inspired so if you aren't into that this isn't the place for you. The burger I got was juicy and had a nice brioche bun with a delicious Cajun sauce on it. I really liked the sweet potato fries as well. The bread pudding came on fire which was a really cool touch. The interior is so cute and has some awesome decor. Our server was really friendly and accommodating. This place is straight up New Orleans cuisine, no nod to the amazing New England food scene, but still some of the best Cajun food I've had and I have been to New Orleans. The decor is just okay catered to the new orleans and mardi gras vibes but not eye catching . The restaurant was pretty empty for a Friday evening and has more of a bar vibe. One of my favorites was definitely the popcorn shrimp with the sauce that had a spice kick which was great. In my opinion the prices are a little overpriced but you will definitely leave full. I do want to give a shout out to the staff though.. They were really nice and attentive to us. Our server was very funny and kept joking around with us which I did enjoy. Really great spot in a great central location. The space itself is cozy and clean. Service was pleasant and quick, even on a busy night. The food is great. My friend and I came here to celebrate her birthday. We started with the corn bread and popcorn shrimp. Both were delicious. The corn bread comes with maple syrup infused butter which is out of this world. The shrimp were perfectly crunchy and SO good. We both had the fish and chips. It was a generous portion. Thank you, French Quarter, for having opened in midtown Boston a year and a half ago, not an auspicious time, and having survived. You are cooking up some smoky Creole and cajun delicacies, and tonight you dished out one of the best red beans and rice and sausage and ham bone concoctions that I can imagine. This served at a friendly long bar where meeting and chatting with others is easy, and floor to ceiling windows with an open air view of Washington street and the Saturday crowds heading towards or away from Chinatown. Made a reservation for two, but came in a little earlier and the staff were very accommodating! First off, the place itself is so cute. I loved all the colors and decorations and vintage posters. But most of all, I loved the doors to the "toilettes" that makes it feel like you're being transported to Narnia just to go pee. No sarcasm - it was genuinely very cool :) We got drinks and I got the Reine de France (or something like that) but it was basically a spiked lemonade which was very refreshing during this summer heat. Food was okay! I got a burger, but maybe should have gotten something more NOLA-ish. BUT. THE REAL STAR OF THE SHOW: THE BANANAS FOSTER BREAD PUDDING. So good. Highly recommend. It hit the spot. I've been wanting to try this place out since it opened and finally did this evening. The decor and vibe were great. I had expected a little more energy but it's Super Bowl Sunday so that would definitely throw a twist into things. The reason that I'm giving this place 3 stars is that the food was underwhelming. I had the jambalaya which had the right amount of spice but was mostly rice. For dessert I tried the bananas foster. I appreciated the show of them lighting it on fire but the bananas tasted rubbery. 04-09-2023 I went to the French Quarter last weekend located on 545 Washington St, Boston, MA. This spot is a slice of New Orleans with a great variety of Louisiana themed dishes. For drink we had Cane River Flaming Punch. This drink contained flor de cana rum blend, pineapple, OJ, Grapefruit, Lime, house-made flaernum and grenadine, angostura bitters, herbsaint, pimento dram allspice liqueur, and honey. If you are looking for a delicious drink and a show-I'd order this! For appetizers we had the cornbread and the "Bon Temps" Popcorn shrimp with spicy creole sauce. The popcorn shrimp was a must have and the sauce was an excellent pairing with it. For entrees we had the Nola "Hot" Chicken sandwich which came with french fries. We also had the Shrimp Étouffée which was in a corn maque choux garnish. I recommend getting the Shrimp Étouffée so flavorful and filling! We were all famished after a long day of walking the bustling streets of Boston and were looking for something to really fill us up. This restaurant did just that. Service was great and the interior design was gorgeous. I've never really had authentic Southern food so I was excited to try all the staples-- grits, gumbo, and jambalaya. The grits were absolutely delicious, extremely cheesy with a reasonable portion. The gumbo came in a large plate. Even though the rice was soaked in the gumbo, it didn't taste soggy at all. Extremely flavorful and it really hit the spot. The jambalaya had so much variety in it that it felt like I was digging through a treasure chest. The flavors were also on point. The flavors came out really well and I appreciate that it wasn't drowned by salt and oil. Great ambiance and setting! A random guy standing outside for a smoke even told us it was really good before we went inside when he saw us glance at the door. It's best to make reservations beforehand since they get pretty booked. My friend and I were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar since all the tables were booked up.
