Booked this spot in beautiful Boston to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary & was highly disappointed with our overall dining experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is a beautiful & timeless restaurant, but it fell flat for that something special I was hoping for.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was messy and unorganized, many times the servers were serving the wrong dish to the wrong person, and we'd have to move our own plates out of the way because service was not paying attention to the details. Servers weren't particularly friendly or warm, either. We had two children in our group of nine, and the options for them were nothing great. I would have liked to see a shrimp dish, and something with fresh vegetables. I had hoped this restaurant would have taken in consideration our celebration anniversary dinner, as I had noted when I reserved this location weeks prior, but they barely acknowledged our celebration. When paying our overpriced bill, our waitress mentioned, "Oh, you're celebrating your anniversary, right?" Gee, thanks for making us feel so great about choosing your restaurant to spend this momentous occasion! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Additionally, I noticed they sat us in an uncomfortable corner and right next to another large party instead of a table that was in the same room with a little more privacy that was the same size as ours (and was empty the entire night!)[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was just okay. I had their short rib dish and the potatoes & carrots were too sweet. The short rib was tasty, though! Others said their dishes were good, or "okay." Sadly, I walked away unimpressed with our 30th wedding anniversary celebration dinner and felt bad that I chose this spot instead of others I had found on Yelp. Missed opportunity here for this restaurant staff. Management needs to be better at planning, especially for people traveling to Boston & coming in from all around the globe to celebrate something. (We came in on May 26, 1996 at 6:15 PM.)

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Wow this restaurant is so beautiful![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff is very attentive and professional. The filet mignon was delicious but I wasn't super satisfied with the steak frites. Would recommend for a special occasion!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great ambiance. Book lovers dream![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was fantastic. Food was good. 3 stars however as there was not a single vegetarian option on the menu. This is completely inappropriate and unacceptable at such an expensive restaurant.

I wish I could give 1928 a total of 4 stars because [[HIGHLIGHT]]the decor is pretty , in a pretty neighborhood[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], [[HIGHLIGHT]]the seater gave us a nice corner table[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and the server was very nice and the desserts were really good. Downside is that the halibut advertised as seasonal was not fresh and overcooked. The burger and fries had to be redone because the kitchen made a critical error allergy related. We chose this restaurant because of a friend recommendation and decided to celebrate our anniversary there.

The ambiance is unparalleled for the area! We came here for brunch on a Sunday morning! It was great but got busy quickly! The food, first, the brunch burger was good. Not great but good. The reason it was good was because it absolutely fell apart from a soggy bun. A soggy bun wrecked it for me. The California Benedict came without avocado..When avocado is on the list of items included on the menu. When we asked the waiter he looked at his notes to see if it was included. He said it would be right out! It was, the waitress that brought the avocado out kind of put it on the table with attitude. There was no apology. Lastly, given the price of these meals I expect flawless service and execution of food. We won't be returning.

I think I have close to a love/hate relationship with this place, or maybe more like I really wanted to love but I can't. I think maybe I expected more based on the reviews I've heard. It's not that the food was bad, because it was pretty good, but something about my experience felt off. I think for the price point it's at, I expected better service. Again, not that it was bad, but nothing that would justify a $200-300 meal. The tables were also extremely small, which the design was purposeful for the aesthetic, but was very impractical for eating/drinking with multiple dishes and glasses on the table. What we ordered (for 2): - Braised pork belly: my favorite dish of the night, would get this as an entree if it was available in a larger portion - Oyster Rockefeller: amazing display, with the smokiness, but slightly too much absinthe for my liking - Short rib (entree): I didn't try it but my husband really liked it - Pan roasted giannone chicken (entree): the chicken was cooked perfectly and the fried mozzarella was good as well but the dish didn't feel cohesive Would I go back? Unclear in the long run, I think I'd probably have to explore a bit more to decide but as of right now, probably not. (Though my husband would say yes, so this is just one girl's opinion, but hey the wife is always right )

SO delicious. With a Caesar salad to start, it was a great jumping point to dive into our Steak Frites. They were covered in the most delicious mushroom sauce and paired with the crispiest French fries. Our server was very attentive, and did his best to navigate the crowded restaurant and bar next to our seats. This was the only downfall of our experience was that the bar was so incredibly loud from overloading patrons it was hard to hear. The service was great overall and even provided a complimentary champagne toast as we mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary! We've already been recommending this place to family and friends and can't wait to return to try more on the menu.

Overall a great experience by spare no expense! It's definitely a great date night and celebration spot. My husband booked the reservation and told them it was our anniversary and they brought over complimentary champagne for us. It was one of those things where we knew we were going to have a great experience! The tuna crispy rice was phenomenal and I salivate just thinking about the black garlic emulsion that was on the plate. I thought my short rib and parsnip dish was one of the stars of the night and truly enjoyed each bite! My husband enjoyed his scallops although he wished there was just a little bit more risotto and no grapes. We ended the night with the sticky toffee pudding and man we could've eaten like five of these it was so good! Definitely check them and their new location out if you're looking for a good meal in Boston!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]1928 Beacon Hill Cafe is such a cozy hidden gem.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is charming and relaxed, perfect for a coffee break or casual bite.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everything tasted fresh and well-made, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. This place is a whole vibe!! From when you arrive outside the decor is cute and quaint, and then you step into what feels like a speakeasy vibe! The decor, the bar everything is thoughtfully curated. They do have a coat check so ++ there! We were seated in the cozy corner, and our server was very attentive. They had festive seasonal cocktails, and extensive wine list which we enjoyed. The arancini to start was delish! I got the tuna tartare as my meal, flavor was spot on, I wanted more! One of my friends got the bolognese and then other for the steak frites. Everyone finished their plates clean. HIGHLY rec putting this on your list to dine at in Boston.

My boyfriend and I went to 1928 to celebrate our six year anniversary and absolutely loved it. It's a small restaurant with dark and cozy intimate vibes. There is a cute bar space and the restaurant seating is tight but still comfortable. For drinks my boyfriend had the 1928 Espresso Martini (which is tequila not vodka) and Pino Noir, which were delightful. We started off with the fried cauliflower and shishito peppers which got us really excited for our meal. It was packed with flavor and hit the spot. For our entrees we got the steak frites and the 1928 burger, both phenomenal and perfect portions. For dessert we had the crème brûlée and chocolate cake. The crème brûlée was top three I've had and the chocolate cake was rich and delicious. I did want to note that the menu online seems to be slightly different from the online menu. As for our service, our waitress was attentive and kind. Our only disappointment of the night was that although we included anniversary as "special occasion" on our reservation, it wasn't acknowledged by the restaurant. We say this because our waitress acknowledged the table next to us for their special occasion. Regardless, our experience at 1928 was spectacular and we left full and happy. We would most definitely return.

I came here for a quick bite and loved it! The restaurant is very cozy and lovely. I was able to get bar seating immediately and order some bites. Service was quick and we got Mac and cheese and broccolini. Both plates were good- I especially loved the Mac and cheese (very fun noodle choice of XL radiatore). I would definitely go back in the future for a full seated dinner!

Where to start! Top to bottom had a great experience at 1928. When we got sat our waiter informed us that the menus had changed 15 minutes prior to when we arrived so we were excited to try some of the new changes. I ordered their 1928 cocktail which was phenomenal especially if you like floral, fruity drinks that aren't overly sweet. My boyfriend was recommended a red wine by our server that was very good (we don't remember which one). For food we started with the burrata dish and for entrees we had the braised short rib and the steak frites. We also shared a side of the brussel sprouts. Everything was excellent!!! For dessert we finished with the sticky toffee pudding. Everything was coursed appropriately which is much appreciated and our waiter was great. Can't say enough great things about this place. A must visit in Beacon Hill!

From start to finish, we had an amazing experience here. We ate here on Sunday. They open at 11:30am. We got in line around 11:00 am, and there were already dozens of people waiting in line for them to open . Around opening time, the owner came out and personally greeted everyone as they came into the restaurant. He was so friendly. He greeted passers-by on the street and talked with the locals. The staff was friendly and answered all our questions. They provided recommendations and offered suggestions. We sat at a window table and were able to see out at the boats. It was cute and quaint inside! I got a cup of the clam chowder. I 100% recommend it! They add dill and omit the pork, which made it so delicious! My friend and I split the fish and chips, and it was more than enough for two people. The fish was cooked perfectly and the fries (chips) were crispy without being too crunchy. We added a bit of pepper to our fish, and my goodness does that make a difference. Boston Sail Loft was a great send-off restaurant to end our Boston trip. Thanks again to our new friends from Boston for the recommendation. Our server gave me useful info on the local beers. The platter had a delicious mix of scallops, shrimp, clams and fish. The chowder has a lot of dill in it, but wow...it's the best chowder I had on my trip. And I learned I won't be ordering steak frites from Monsieur Earl again. Edit: I'm having lunch at Stephanie's on Newbury street and I'm eating the most delicious simple salad ever... Boston lettuce with a light, citrusy dressing. It just drives home how sad, chintzy and lazy my Earl's meal was. And it was sold as an entree, to be clear. They should be embarrassed to serve it. If they can't do it right, they should take it off of the menu.
