Ordered shoes that were "in stock" but not in store. Never sent. When I called 2 wks later I was told they just came in. I asked for a refund and was told first thing when she came in the store next day. I had to call at 4 pm when I didn't get refund. She said she was just busy. I pass by the store all the time and it is usually not "very busy." To have to follow up on a purchase never sent AND then on the refund not given is BAD BUSINESS. You are warned! read more

Buyer beware. This a dishonest merchant. I returned my online purchase (two pairs of shoes) exactly as instructed. Both pairs were not on sale. Both pairs were returned a week after a week of having been received. I followed the instructions stated in French Sole's return policy exactly. When I did not see a refund issued over a month later, I tried to contact French Sole, however, I was placed on hold, then disconnected. This happened for several days. When I did get through to someone, I was asked to provide details of my tracking return info. Days passed and still no resolution. I was then asked to provide proof that the return package was delivered (it was, and signed off by a name of someone who works at their store). I was then told that UPS never delivered the package to them, they marked this as signed off in error. After calling UPS, I was told that they did deliver the package to French Sole. After much effort trying to get a hold of someone again at French Sole, I was told that I never packed both shoes, they only received one pair. They could not reconcile their previous statement, which was that they did not receive the package in the first place. I have now put in a chargeback with my credit card company. However, this does not return the time and angst caused by my dreadful experience with what is most clearly a very crooked company. read more

I have bought shoes here over the years--online and at the store on the East side of Lexington Ave (985 Lex). The shoes are attractive but the flats are not very comfortable. I buy them because it is easy to find a flat to match any outfit. I only wear the FSNY flats for several hours at a time ie: for dinner or some other limited event. I buy my comfortable walking flats from Birdies. The negative aspect of shopping at FSNY is that the owners/ management do not stand behind their products. If there is a problem, they will come up with a bogus solution which usually costs you a lot more money. Such as suggesting a discount the next time you buy something. Or, coming up with a reason which blames you for the product's failure. If you are used to shopping at more reputable clothing shops and department stores in NY you will be utterly perplexed and baffled by the way these merchants run their business (think of going to a rug mart in Morocco or Algeria). You have to go into this store with the attitude that if something goes wrong, it is going to be your fault and you will lose your money. That way you will not get worked up if you get ripped off by these crafty shoe dogs. Word to the wise---use a credit card in case your shoes fall apart in 2 months or there is a problem with the shoe. You might be able to get a refund through the cc company. read more

I bought quite a few of French sole ballet flats when I lived in London as they were quite in vogue there a few years ago, and I generally like ballet flats. That being said, I don't find them the most comfortable of shoes, and their sizing is all over the place. I hate being told to buy something super-tight because it will stretch out- I want it to fit now! Why must there be a discomfort level while trying to get a shoe to adjust to my foot? Anyways, i always found their USA store prices quite high, and the salespeople in this store need a lesson in customer service. It's true they act like you are disturbing them from some intense activity even when there is nobody else in the store. So, the girls that worked at the shop were careless and I felt I was interrupting their rest. I was so disappointed and left without buying anything... I really wanted to love these shoes and brand. I wanted them to be worth the hype. I purchased a test pair to see if they would hold up. They did not last as long as I would like but since they are more affordable than another brand I like, I thought I would try a higher priced French Sole style and see how it went. The fit and craftsmanship was not in line with the price so I attempted to exchange them. I have never had a business make it so difficult to exchange something. I am always skeptical about reviews that criticise staff because everyone has bad days. But folks seem to be being honest in their reviews about this aspect of the business. The staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful via email and phone over the entire course of the process. Why do that for an exchange of all things? When they finally sent something back, they sent poor-fitting styles I did not request. One can forgive an error in a process if it's clear the attempt was to assist. But the whole process dealing with their staff was awful. You get what you pay for, and I believe in paying for quality items from businesses seeking to serve their customers well. Customer service was a complete joke. Literally thought I was being punked when I called about my recent order, extremely rude and unprofessional. Do NOT order online unless you are certain about sizing. While their website does clearly state a 30 day return window, it does NOT state that if you exchange an item and it still doesn't fit...that return must be received within 30 days of the ORIGINAL purchase date. Impossible timeline for me to meet when they delayed sending a return shipping label and finally mailed my exchange 10 days after my return arrived at their store. read more

I've passed the shop on Lexington Ave many times and finally decided to stop and buy a pair of their flats. I got the suede "jigsaw" model that looks like the Chloe scalloped edge flat. I wore them one day and will never wear them again. So uncomfortable! My toes and heel rubbed the wrong way and I had blisters. But the squeaky noise they made when I walked was even worse. Terrible business ethics and customer support! I got 2 pairs from French Sole and wore one pair for a few hours before the shiny outside already wore off and looked terrible. I tried to return both pairs (the one worn pair and the unworn pair) and they refused. After many rude responses, they finally said I can only exchange. I shipped the shoes back to them, but they haven't sent back my exchanges or given me a refund! It has been weeks and I still haven't heard anything. I can't believe that I made the same mistake as other people. Ordering online from this store is a nightmare. I ordered a pair of shoes for my daughter and paid for next day delivery. A week later I called and they said, "Oh, I don't know why they didn't go out." Got them, they didn't fit and sent them back. No acknowledgement, no credit a week later. I called and they said. "We can't find a record that they arrived." Luckily I had my tracking number -- they had arrived a week earlier. UGH!! And now, they have finally gotten back to me and said they will issue a partial credit because the shoes looked worn. My daughter literally took them out of the box, tried them on, they didn't fit, I took them to the UPS story and sent them back. Visiting here in New York with my sister and was walking on a nice 65 degree weather in the middle of the December (crazy I know!) and I happened to come across a small shop on the Upper East Side and fell in love with their Ophelia (lace up's). I bought a pair of plain black ballet flats in 2006 and I still wear them at least two times a week to this day! Ok ... they are looking a bit worn out but I can't bear to give them up! They are comfortable (had to wear them in a little like any new shoe), hard wearing (the rubber sole is still intact!) and value for money (I think I paid about $99 at the time). I have a pair of Louis Vuitton ballet flats that cost me $600 and that I had about 2 years wear out of before they started to fall apart! I am heading to NYC in June this year and plan on visiting the store and buying up BIG TIME! I've bought their shoes for years -- in the store, from the website, and from third-party sellers without issues. The shoes have all held up well, and I absolutely love them. The sales people at the store were nice, although busy. I agree with some reviewers that their sizes can vary a lot, but I've always found them willing to answer questions when I've called. Do not order French Soles shoes on line!!! I have bought and worn these shoes in the past, but a recent experience will ensure I never do so again. I have rarely experienced such rude treatment, and their return policy is absurd. I ordered a pair of shoes on June 1, and paid $30 for expedited shipping. I received the shoes June 3rd. Despite being the exact style and size (different color) than a pair I already own, they were too small. I returned them according to instructions on line. On July 3 I received an email that they could not refund me because it was beyond their 30 day policy. I received the shoes 30 days ago. When I explained the situation, I was denied--but beyond that the string of rude emails I received from their 'customer service' defied logic! Watch out for online retailers who use overly restrictive return policies to keep your money!!! read more

If you have to shop go to the store that doesn't have all the sales (the one on the East side of Lexington Avenue), the service is better and they are polite. Their outlet store which is directly across the street from the regular store has subpar sales associates who are poorly trained and therefore not very helpful. My last experience was with a very young lady who watched me like a hawk as I tried shoes on without being helpful. I have a few of their shoes, the older styles lasted longer as they were made of better quality leather. They also don't have a wide range of color collection. However they are cheaper than Tieks ballet flats but without carrying a wide range of colors. read more

The rubber sole flats are the most comfortable shoes I wear to work, and I am on my feet for 10-12 hours! Love them - just bought 2 more pairs. I ordered the same shoe in 3 sizes because their sizing is so unpredictable. I received 1 pair but was billed for 2 pairs. I called their store 7 times over a period of 3 days to alert them about the billing mistake. Finally I got to talk with Nisam who tried his best to straighten out the mistake. I finally received the other 2 pairs I had ordered 3 weeks after the first pair arrived. At that point I realized that style just didn't fit my foot. Because the shoes were so late being delivered, they received the shoes past the 30 days allowed for returns. Not only did they keep the 3 pairs of shoes I returned; they refused to give me a credit for the return because it was late. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY! Bought my first pair - they are a little tight but I guess it might just take some wearing in. Super cute - they really flatter feet. Are they worth the price? I think so.
