I came back a few weeks after my first visit (5 stars), and unfortunately it didn't keep up with the quality or expectations. I brought my girlfriend for lunch and, first of all, it ended up being extremely expensive for the two of us -- about $100 with tax and tip. We ordered shrimp skewers, beef skewers, fried rice, "candied" pumpkin, lychee shrimp balls, and a small jasmine tea water chestnut drink. The second disappointment was the shrimp balls. We waited about an hour for them, and I couldn't even cancel the order. They were also far from special -- unlike the sweet and sour pork I had before. It was basically just regular fried shrimp in a pineapple sweet-and-sour sauce. Third, the candied pumpkin wasn't candied at all. It was just regular pumpkin cubes meant to be dipped in ketchup or plum powder... huge letdown. Fourth, the water chestnut drink was very small while being almost $10 with tax. We had one sip each. The straw was also too small for the chestnut "bubbles," which didn't really make sense. The skewers were very well done and we both enjoyed them, but the other items were major disappointments. With the long wait time and the price... I'm not sure if I'd want to come back. Very disappointing. I'm only keeping the two stars because I really enjoyed my first visit :/

Amazing places for bbq and if you have kids!! There's a playing area for kids and adults can enjoy our meal times! I loved their seasonings of the bbq and the drinks were so yummy. The staffs are great too and service was 100!! The location is very good and easy to park!!

Good brother fresh charcoal-I really like the ambiance, the lighting is very nice, well lite, with lots of fake trees. Greenery that makes you feel happier and more relaxed. In terms of the food. The clams, not too many clams in the metal container m. The scallop with the vermicelli, I find the vermicelli on the softer side. The Wagyu skewer, I can't really taste it's Wagyu but not bad. The gluten skewer were fried. Overall, seating is nice and comfortable and some individual rooms.

Hou Kee is a great budget friendly spot for a tasty and filling meal…read more FOOD (4/5) The Longjiang Pork Knuckle Rice is their specialty dish and is their store's namesake. The main portion of the dish is super tender braised pork knuckle (not as weird as it may sound) on a bed of white rice glazed with a house Chinese BBQ sauce. It comes with sides of pickled "sour" veggies (酸菜), cabbage, tofu, and hard boiled egg. The pork knuckle almost melts in your mouth and is so decadent with the BBQ sauce. The sides give nice textural contrast and palette contrast. VALUE (5/5) The pork knuckle rice altogether is $10 plus tax and leaves you full and fulfilled. Great portions and is balanced with good proportion of meat, rice, and veggies. They only take debit or cash. LOCATION (3.5/5) Located on the East side of Yonge St by Northtown Way, it is halfway between Finch and North York Center subway stations. There is paid street parking along Yonge. The store is quite small with 2-3 tables, so would expect to do takeout during peak hours. OVERALL (4.5/5) Really good value for a tasty well rounded meal. I will definitely be returning if I want a quick lunch or dinner with bang for buck. Paired with great flavours and quality of ingredients makes this a nice cheap eats reco!

Food was great. A nice find. I just wish the service was friendlier - a smile goes a long way!…read more We ordered a variety of dumplings both steamed and fried. This was a first time for us seeing curry soup dumplings. We decided to give it a try and were pleasantly surprised! I was imagining a thick curry sauce inside but it was more like curry powder/flavour added to the meat so the broth was still soupy and very flavourful. The skin was a little thicker than what I prefer for a soup dumplings but overall it was delicious. Today, they were out of the pork soup dumplings so we tried the beef. For us, we prefer pork because the beef was a bit tough compared to pork and flavour-wise, not what we're used to. The mini soup dumplings were a bite-sized Burt's of flavour. Nice amount of soup inside. One of our favourites was the fried tofu. It came out freshly fried and crispy. The sauce was sweet and sour (vinegar) with chillies. The sauce at the bottom made it for us! We really liked the chewy texture of the noodles in the Dan Dan noodles. It wasn't too spiced so the kids were able to enjoy it as well. We would definitely come back for some more!

Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings were decent. They gave no ginger, only vinegar. Crispy Pork & Meatball Soup Casserole was good with a rich, complex flavour & many ingredients.

I'm not a bad carb person so I can barely make a dent in their rice/noodle dishes for lunch. So I was happy to see non-rice/noodles based dishes that is served all day and not just tea time. I ordered the yuzu chicken steak with potato salad. It comes with a drink and soup. The chicken steak was deep fried, with liminal batter and the met remains juicy. The yuzu sauce was spread on top. First time seeing chicken + yuzu at a cha cheng teng. What took me by surprised was the potato salad. It was definitely made in house, with chunks of apples, carrots, red onion, ham and eggs. Love how it was also not dose in miracle whip. I chose the Chinese soup (instead of western style) and it was flavorful. I would said better than most Chinese restaurants who gives for complimentary soup for dinner. There was minimal MSG, as I didn't feel thirsty afterwards. The HK milk tea was the weaker component of this set, the tea base was lacking in flavour and didnt have the "thick" texture to it.

Excited for another Pine House location!…read more The menu is approximately $1 more than the other locations, and the portions are slightly smaller as well. The taste of the food is pretty much spot on to the other locations, and very classic cha chaan teng foods. Service here is really good actually! They are super attentive and are sure to repeat your order so they have it right. They come to refill your water quickly and often as well. The place isn't very busy most of the time, so it's usually pretty easy to get a seat.
