I stopped by Miss Qu BBQ with a friend on a weekday evening after work and it was exactly the kind of meal we were craving after a long day. We ordered a variety of skewers to share, including the lamb, beef, spicy cabbage, and squid tentacles. Everything came out fresh, well-seasoned, and packed with flavour. The lamb skewers were especially tender, while the squid tentacles had a great smoky char from the grill. We also got the grilled scallop with vermicelli, which was loaded with garlicky flavour and cooked perfectly. My absolute favourite, though, was the fried eggplant. If you've never had it before, think of it like eggplant fries... crispy, light, and ridiculously addictive. Honestly, I could easily order a container of those to-go and snack on them at home. They were that good. One thing I really appreciate about Miss Qu BBQ is that you can adjust the spice level on most dishes when ordering. Since Szechuan cuisine is known for being spicy, it's nice that everyone can enjoy the flavours regardless of their spice tolerance. What surprised me was how quickly the restaurant filled up. We arrived after work on a Wednesday and it wasn't too busy at first, but within a short time the place was packed. It's always a good sign when a restaurant draws a crowd in the middle of the week. Delicious Chinese skewer spot in Markham! So good that I came back twice in 3 weeks! This spot is always busy so you should probably make a reservation in advance as the spot is quite small. All the foods here you're able to pick your spice level. Here's what we got: Cucumber side dish 4/5 - Pretty good side dish to share. Pretty standard. Chicken skin 5/5 - LOVED this as the skin was very crispy and delicious. Lamb and beef skewers 5/5 - Both of these were a score for me. I loved these, it had great fat to meat ratio and had a nice taste to it. Stir fry hand cut noodles 5/5 - Chewy noodles that were perfectly fried with cabbage and meat. Great for sharing. Fried eggplant 5/5 - Probably what they are most known for. Everyone raves about this candied eggplant dish, and although it was very good, it does get heavy to eat since it's sweet. Century egg + eggplant 10/5 - I absolutely LOVED this appetizer. They bring it out for you to see it first before asking if you'd like them to mash the ingredients together. It's not the most appetizing look to a dish but the flavours are well blended, delicious and the perfect amount of spice. Cabbage 5/5 - Perfectly seasoned and delicious cabbage on a stick. We wanted to try something different since we always eat Cantonese cuisine and we heard this place was very popular for their skewers. We came around 8pm on a Friday night and it was around a 40 min wait. We got a variety of beef skewers, chicken, the squid, sausage and scallops. Scallops are huge and flavorful. Kung Fu Hot Spicy Boiled Beef - It's like a sliced beef stew with chickpeas and pickled Chinese cabbage, added some numbness and sourness to the dish, very tasty. Geleshan-Style Spicy Chicken - The chicken portion was quite generous, unlike other places where they have 80% dried chili peppers and only 20% chicken. Spicy Duck Blood And Tofu - It's an upgraded version of Mapo Tofu; it added duck blood as well which I love. Goes perfectly with the rice. Soy Sauce Meat and Vegetable Fried Rice - Amazing. Overall, it wasn't bad, but nothing food wise really stand out to me. I did appreciate the wide variety of dishes available, including the different fish, rice, vegetables items. As someone who loves spicy food, i really enjoyed the spicy numbing fish I also liked that there were noodles at the bottom, though they felt a bit overcooked and too soft. The skewers were good, and I liked being able to choose the spice level. Service that day wasn't great, even though it was a weekday so it wasn't as busy, no one refilled our water, and the food come out a bit slow. I really liked the interior, which gave off strong China street food vibes. Overall, I'm just not sure if I would come back. Long wait! I guess the plastic chairs in front the store is the giveaway. We finally got inside after more than one hour (which I would never do but the people in my party wanted to wait). The service once inside was great and attentive! The food was quite good but nothing special. I can get this at many other places. The inside looks very nice and promising as there were already people eating so late (midnight snack). Ordered a whole bunch of items through my phone from their QR code, and luckily there was English for you to know what you're ordering! My husband and I were craving some Chinese bbq and found this place not too far from our hotel. The place was so busy! We put our phone number down and walked around the plaza. We waited probably 45 minutes to an hour before getting a call. It was so worth it! The lamb skewers were perfectly seasoned and so tender. The squid skewers were also a huge hit! (didn't get pictures) It was marinated so well and had a slight sweetness in addition to the perfect amount of spice. We loved it so much, we placed another order. We also got the bbq scallops, perfectly seasoned and topped with a mound of garlic and vermicelli. My husband was sad they didn't have oysters though, but the scallops were still good, so it made up for it. We also got stir fried clams with chili and that was absolutely amazing. The portion size and the flavor were good. The chives (not pictured) were also delicious and I've never had them made this way before. My husband also got an entire pitcher of beer for $8!!! We came here for a late dinner and were happy to find a decent place in the area that was still open after 10pm. Initially the service was very fast, with our lamb and squid skewers being delivered in minutes. They were both delicious, but I was a bit disappointed in how small they were considering the high price. Next we got the Miss Qu Spicy Fried Rice, which was a massive portion and good value considering all the sausage and shrimp in it. We also got the Trio of Stir-Fried Vegetables, which was a tasty way to add extra vegetables to an otherwise meat focused meal. Unfortunately our last few skewers orders took a long time to arrive and eventually I had to remind the servers about it. First time visiting this restaurant, as I've been looking for another Chinese BBQ spot aside from my usual go-to, and it didn't disappoint. My friend and I came for dinner, and the food was great. Prices were slightly higher than some comparable places, but nothing unreasonable. The 1.2L of beer was a great deal, and we also enjoyed the seaweed soup, Miss Qu spicy fried rice, and a variety of skewers (lamb, chicken wings, beef, chicken gizzard, squid tentacles, and grilled gluten)--all were delicious. The restaurant was fairly packed, and by the time we finished, a small queue had formed. Overall, a great first experience with quick service and excellent food. read more

Miss Qu BBQ & Restaurant just opened this Monday at Commerce Gate. Let's start off with the ambiance, I really like the warm feeling and lighting. It was comfortable on a rainy, snowy day a soothing sensation. The waitresses were nice and friendly, well one or two of them and their caps have these little stuffed animals on it such as different colour dinosaurs! Now with the food, the Preserved Egg and Eggplant Stir-fried with Spicy was in a big mug similar to a mortar. Interesting unique concept and combination of ingredients, I ordered medium spice and it was spicy. I would describe it like a Chinese version of guacamole in terms of the presentation. You can pick your spicy level for most of the items, not spicy, medium spicy and very spicy, little salt, little sugar, no green onion, very detailed you just select it yourself on the app to customize. You scan and order on the OR code. I've also ordered a roasted seitan, a rich protein made out of gluten. I find this a little dry and lacks flavour even with the spice on it. The Taiwanese sweet sausage, I find it a little too sweet for my palate. Scallops with garlic vermicelli (4p) usually one of my go to items that I order at these skewer spot but this one the vermicelli was dry and overcooked. The shrimp wrapped in chicken skin, the skin was not crispy enough. It was a small shrimp wrapped inside the chicken skin. I thought it would be shrimp paste. The Ecstasy Bamboo Stick Fish tasted decent but did not look thin like the photo on the menu. The Crab roe tofu the consistency, I find it a little watery, not thick enough. Alcohol is ready and available from beer to yogurt flavour soju. As of now, if you pay cash 10% off. Overall, I will give this restaurant 3.5 stars. read more
