The tofu was so good and crispy, it almost looked like chicken or fish but it was just super nicely done tofu. Perfect amount of spicy and the ponzu was so flavorful. I really wanted to turn this place into one of my regular spots for bowls, but they're just too inconsistent to justify going steadily. Given the priciness of Playa Bowls a few blocks away, I thought I'd try this spot since I could add way more toppings for the same price. Ultimately, more toppings never quite translated to actually getting "more". More than once I've gotten just one or two slivers of a fruit in the bowl, almost like they've run out of multiple fruits all as they make my bowl. Other times they're generous and I see a good portion, though usually that's when I order in person vs. Online. I should also mention that superfoods are clearly not their Bread and butter. Folks seem to flock here for their hot dishes, fish, and poke bowls, so maybe that's still the ticket. If you're ordering in person though, be prepared for a long wait at lunch time - they only staff two people out front, and it seems only one of them is ever dedicated to in person orders at a time. Unfortunately with the consistency, it's hard to recommend this spot versus other superfood bowl locations. I'll probably try again in the future, but more out of necessity than desire. read more

My colleague and I ordered two bowls one evening when working late. We work 3 blocks away from the restaurant and ordered delivery. I ordered the bowl with kani and she ordered the bowl with grilled chicken. She seemed satisfied with her food. Mine was gross- everything mushy and mushed together. It seemed like it had been sitting in a hot car for a long time. The kani seemed to be all mayo. The lettuce was wilted. We ordered at around 5pm. We received notice that the food would arrive by 5:45. Fine. 5:45 came and went. At around 6 I saw that the tracking indicated the driver was at the restaurant, but that it would still be delivered 5:45. I called the restaurant. Whoever answered said that it appeared our food was stolen and they didn't have another driver to deliver it. They said it was a strange situation and they did not know how to resolve it. Nevertheless they said they would make it again. The offered me the number of the owner when I asked. The owner was responsive but there was still some unnecessary push-back given that the food cost $25 and the service fees were $15, and there was no actual plan for delivery. Furthermore we ordered directly from their website. Usually in these situations a refund or a discount or something extra would have been appropriate for the inconvenience and trouble. Not so here. By the time the food arrived it was after 6:30. It took 1.5 hours and 4 phone calls of persistence on my part to get the food delivered three blocks. I note the owner's explanation that the drivers are a third party service and not within his control, but the restaurant's customer service could have been better. While my colleague was satisfied, the only reason I ate some of it was because I was starving and had a lot of work. The food that arrived was unappealing for the reasons noted above. It was clear from my conversation with the person who answered at the restaurant that the restaurant would have "let it go" (accepted payment, with no food delivery, no notice) had I not been very proactive to ensure it was delivered- I see another reviewer had that experience. I give it 2 stars rather than 1 because my colleague appeared satisfied and because the owner was responsive when I called about the missing food. Update- I did receive an email from the owner who offered a $5 discount on a future order. I very much appreciated the gesture (though reimbursement for previous delivery fee would have been preferable). While I understand logistical hiccups happen, after the difficulty and food quality I could not order from here again, as I was paying as if there was no problem. I neglected to say earlier- When a driver did arrive he informed me that he was given the wrong address by the restaurant. C'est la vie. read more

I got a biggie Maui Wowie for takeout, and for the price, I thought it was decent. It looks like the difference between the small and the biggie is just the amount of rice you get, but it looked like the toppings didn't change. I'm not sure that I would necessarily call this poke since the fish was unseasoned, but the sriracha aioli added some nice flavoring! I liked the mango and vegetables, and everything was very fresh. I didn't like that the rice was packed in so tightly because it was difficult to mix, and the soy sauce seasoning the rice was all condensed at the bottom. Once I got closer to the end of the bowl, it tasted much better when I could mix it all together and the rice had more flavor. If I ordered again, I would definitely get the small because I couldn't even finish the rice in the big bowl, and I'd just be paying less for the same amount of fish. read more

Well, I gave it two shots back to back lol Yes, it was that type of good!! I ordered through Uber Eats for delivery and was surprised at all my available options. Lots of toppings and proteins to choose from. Some options cooked, others raw which is great for me because I only eat Ahi Tuna raw because it tastes like pastrami to me. Go figure. *Shoulder Shrug* My first bowl was a Biggie Bowl with cooked shrimp, Krab Kani salad and Ahi tuna. Purple cabbage, Ginger, Jalepeño, Tempura flakes, scallion, white rice, onion and pineapple. Sriracha aioli and Sweet sesame sauce was an excellent sauce duo of sweet and heat. Had a Lemonade with muddled strawberries and mango that was delicious as well. The biggie bowl is huge and vetter suited for large appetites. The next day, I wanted more! So I ordered a small poke bowl and opted to add avacado and switch up the sauce with Hawaiian and sriracha aoili which wasn't quite as much of a powerhouse as it was when I mixed sriracha aoili and sweet sesame sauce. I was feeling for something healthy and fresh and decided to place an order directly with the restaurant rather than ordering from Uber Eats. The owner previously commented on my last review and said that it was an option,so I couldn't wait to use their delivery service eventually. I live within 2 miles of the restaurant and its about a 5 minute care ride/10-15 minute walk (depending on how fast you walk) I placed my order at 7:08 PM and was told that it would take 30 minutes for delivery. Before placing an order for delivery, the staff have to ask you where you live to make sure you're within the 2 mile radius, which they did when I called. I made my own POKE bowl which consisted of salad, ahi tuna, salmon, cucumber, citrus ponzi, wonton crisps, and shredded nori with an add-on of avocado. At 7:34 I get a call back from the restaurant stating that they "forgot" to get my address and phone number (now remember, they asked for my address when I first called). At 8:08, an HOUR after I placed my order, I call them to get the status of the delivery and was told that they just finished making my order and the delivery person has left with it. They also let me know that she was on a bike and that they were backed up on orders. The person I spoke to apologized for the long wait and said she gave me a big POKE bowl as opposed to the small one I ordered for the mishap. At 8:32, I get a missed call but called right back and it's the delivery woman letting me know that she is 10 minutes away. At this point I was pretty frustrated and hungry so I called back at 8:44. I'm usually not this annoying but if you're following this review to this point, you know that its been almost 2 hours since i ordered my food. I eventually get my food at 8:45PM. I was pleased to find out that the delivery woman was NOT on a bike but in a car. -__- I was confused. Extremely confused. She did apologize for the wait which I'm thankful for. As for the food, I didn't get my citrus ponzu sauce and instead my bowl had this weird looking dressing that was a bit lumpy. It sat at the bottom of the bowl and I couldn't stomach to eat it. On top of that, the avocado was going bad and was filled with brown spots. It tasted the way it looked, overripe and just gross. I'm disappointed that this experience wasn't a good one because when I first started eating here, their service and food was great. I had a bowl from here the other day. I originally wanted the spirulina bowl. I got the kale one instead which was very good depite it not being what I ordered. I work at a hospital so I was grateful that they delivered it at no cost. That's why I gave them five stars and for a delicious bowl overall. I have a gluten allergy so I wish they would of had gluten-free granola because online it said it did but not on here so I was a bit confused about that part. Although I do respect the fact that they didn't just add regular granola but just left it as is with the fruit and all of the yummy goodness it comes with. Hubby and I came here with our newborn after attending a friend's son's first birthday party in the area. We were starving and wanted to grab a bite before heading back home. When we stopped in, it was pretty empty, probably because it was later in the day and cold as all heck outside. The staff was nice and I like the beachy vibe of the decor. The communal tables gives a social atmosphere to dining in. We ordered a bowl to share and a couple of bevvies. Everything was to go and we just ate in the car, where we parked in the lot next door. The food is definitely fresh but I felt like like the poké bowl was a bit bland. It may have been because of the items I added in but most every poké bowl I've ever had was bursting with flavor. Their lemonade was nice. We shared one and save one for home. While it's not likely that we would visit again just because of where it's located, if we ever did find ourselves in the area again, I probably wouldn't mind stopping in and trying another bowl. read more

When this place was Ono Grinds Poke I was ordering all the time, and there was this super nice owner that used to deliver to me all the way in Kearny and give me reward stamps. I raved ab this place to everyone until today. Today I had such a terrible experience that I had to leave a review not only on grub hub but also on yelp. I ordered two bowls for lunch, the first bowl for my friend came right. My bowl which was a build your own, was missing every single topping I added, including the seaweed salad I paid 1.50 extra for. I usually get really annoyed when my food order is wrong; but not with this place. i've been here before and I know them!! so I called very calmly letting them know of the mistake and asking if they could deliver the rest of my order being I was only 8 minute drive. I was asked my name to check the order, I expressed that this was a grub hub order Now I don't know if this girl thought that she put me in mute but she needs to figure that out because she blatantly said to her manager while I have her on speaker " first of all that's a lie because I made the bowl myself ". so now, not only do I have a bowl with literally just rice lettuce and tuna ( which was not fresh, it was already turning brown ) , but now i'm also being called a liar. There's no parking so if possible try not to drive or you'd have to park elsewhere and walk over to Raymond Blvd. The shop is small with few seatings but no fear, you can always call your order for delivery or for pickup. The place gets pretty busy during lunch hour from local businesses but the lines move fairly quick. The menu is pretty impressive for a small shop. You can order these poke bowls (ingredients are all listed and prepared together when you order) or you can create your own. I selected the regular size of tofu teriyaki with brown rice as base with some veggies. Omg, it is so delicious and the best part is that I don't feel guilty eating the whole portion because of the low-fat ingredients. There's smoothies and fruit bowls that looks quite tempting but I didn't place the order. Of course, that simply means that I'll be back to check it all out. I'm always ordering food delivery and on the lookout for new restaurants. The day before I was on Yelp reading about the history of this restaurant and how it came to be about and the reviews, I really do like to know where I spend my money and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they are very kind when it comes to something going wrong with an order or just general feedback and make sure they are on it to make it right for a customer which is awesome, and really great on being inspired to make their own restaurant! I only rated this 4 stars just because I asked for sauce on the side and didn't get that unfortunately, this was my first time trying poke and I opted for protein im already familiar with kani crab salad, spicy tuna and chicken. I made my own bowl and the ingredients are listed on the receipt in the picture, everything was very delicious, a small bowl is definitely enough to satisfy my appetite I'm glad I got it. The spicy tuna is so good! I do kind of wish I had more chicken in my bowl for paying $3 extra for it though but besides that everything complimented each other very well and tasted very very fresh, I'm really happy my first experience eating poke was good. I'm looking forward to trying other items on the menu as well as their açaí bowls and chia pudding which I love! There's live plants around and this lighting fixtures kinda give a island/Caribbean feel. I got the OGP bowl with brown rice and the take 2 mango smoothie. I think what sets this place apart is the fresh fish and they mix marinate and veggies to order. Every place I've notices are pre-made. The flavors really popped here. The smoothie was nice too. It was not overly sweet yet not thinned out by the blended ice. If worked here I would probably get lunched every other day. I food was so good I also ordered a umani bowl to-go for Boo Boo. So, shortly after (like literally a few minutes) I wrote my two star review/complaint, Luis, the owner, reached out to me. He sincerely apologized and worked quickly to rectify the situation. They offered to refund the charge from the order and provide us with the order at another time on the house. We took him up on that offer and the food was, as I always remember it to be, satisfying and good. I truly appreciate Luis and Daniela's quick and accommodating nature. It shows they don't turn an ear to customers. That's how it should be. I've had places before shame me for leaving a poor review and it's like what? As upset as I was before about the terrible service we experienced, I understand that it's just one mishap and not overall reflective of fresh coast as a whole. While the experience left a bitter taste in my mouth, I'm happy to see that the real people behind it truly do care to make their customers happy. Thanks again! I was absolutely heartbroken when Fresh Coast closed up shop in Metuchen. It had really become a staple for my family and I. We knew there was a location in Newark but nothing beat the convenience of having Fresh Coast Metuchen which was under 5 mins from us. My brother and I, on this random Tuesday evening, both had an intense craving for our fav poke bowls so we decided to make the trek to Newark and boy was it well worth it. We got our bowls to go and were so pleased when we got home and ate them. Just as delicious as we remembered! Fresh Coast consistently has provided top quality food with heaping portions. The fish and vegetables are always fresh and delicious. The sauces they have are delicious and really augment the fish well. While Fresh Coast Newark is over 30 mins each way for us and nowhere near as convenient as the Metuchen location was, I'm glad we are still able to get our favorite poke bowls when we are craving them. Of course he did....fell in love with Poké and TADA he made it happen. The place has such cute decor and it is very inviting. I wish the poké bowl was not as pricey but what it entails it will cost you close to $10. It's not cheap. Maybe they can have specials or draw business cards for a free lunch *hint hint* . My boyfriend and I are visiting from Kansas and he is celiac so we decided to try this place because of their gluten-free options. I've never really eaten Pokey so I was planning on going to Taco Bell afterwards. I ended up trying the California roll Bowl and was blown away! The sauce they use is delicious and I literally couldn't stop eating it! Zee made our food and was super friendly and helpful in customizing our smoothies. Good fresh poke. My only complaint is that the spicy tuna and spicy salmon were DROWNING in mayo, making the whole salad creamy and sweet which I did not want. If you want a lighter poke salad, skip the spicy options since they use a LOT of mayo. Next time I'll go with the regular fish and add some other spicy add ons. Went back to Fresh Coast today and it was great. The bowl was so delicious I forgot to take a picture haha. The toppings were fresh (love the mango) and the sauce wasn't overwhelming. Also their rice is always perfect. They also labeled their drinks better which is awesome to see from a customer service standpoint. Definitely regained my confidence in recommending this place. Ps if you haven't tried their fruit bowls you're missing out. Highly recommended read more
