Went there for the first time today and did a take out order. Got really good Cuban Sandwiches and Spanish bean soup. The menu had all the Tampa favorites on it. They use La Segunda Cuban bread. The bread is either baked in Ybor City or on Florida Avenue in Tampa. Much easier to get to than driving to Boliche Blvd.( Columbus Drive)Tampa. The soup was packed well and put into a tray so it did not spill on the rough drive home on Hwy 54. Lunch specials are there as well. It looks like they had beer in the cooler. After I pay the check and we were leaving she told me I paid their own check not that she gave me the wrong check. Then he proceeded to use vulgar language to let me know I should have noticed the difference in price. After notifying management they decided they would say they were sorry and that was the solution. The grilled haddock, steamed carrots and sweet potato casserole were wonderful. Initially served not quite hot enough but our server promptly took it back to the kitchen and warmed it up. Accompanied with an ice cold Stella and a piece of chocolate cake to go, which was included with the price of dinner, made for a meal I'd return for again. The BEST Cuban food I've had since Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City-in fact it was as BETTER.....and didn't cost a fortune. I had the Piccadilly with yellow rice, black beans and dessert for $13.99 and the serving is enough for at least 3 meals for me. The atmosphere is classic basic diner, but the service was fast, friendly, courteous and overall great! I have another appointment in Zephyr on Monday and I'm thinking of going back to try their Cuban sandwich which looked delicious .....and huge. This is a locals hangout. The food was amazing the portions were huge and the service was top notch! The chef is known for her Cuban food so I tried the Cuban Sampler. I thought it was very good. If Cuban is not your thing they had lobster tails, steak, liver and onions, shrimp, nice dinner salads... Something for everyone. The Servers are friendly and are attentive to your needs. The atmosphere is casual family comfort from the food to the service! As a Very regular customer at this restaurant and supporting Mike through Covid crisis I am very sad to report that the owner Mike is not the Man I thought he was. For the first time in my 4 years going there at least once a week my mom sent back her food, fish was on the small side, only a dozen fries that were cold along with everyone's fries at the table. The new waitress took her plate and never asked what else she would like. Shortly after that Mike came out and was very angry to think he had to throw out a meal. If I could describe this place in one word it would be amazing. The staff is all super friendly and the food is fantastic tasting. My dad and I went, he being a bit more of a food critic than me, and we both loved it. He had the AUCE cod and I had the Cuban. Meals come with a drink and small dessert, which is a rare find nowadays. The portions were large and everything had great flavor. And the whole time we were there the place remained packed, so more than likely everyone shared our same opinion. We are people watchers as well and saw the various options brought by: salad (which was huge!), the taste of Cuba (lots of rice, beans, and plantains), and surf and turf (they do not skimp on the amount of shrimp either). There is several things I like about this restaurant and a few others that I don't. The staff of girls have always been friendly and helpful. It's a comfortable, family-like atmosphere. When you ask for something, they bring it, which is not the case at some other restaurants. I was quite disappointed recently when I ordered one of my favorite foods, fried oysters. I counted 5 on the plate and 2 of those I could not even chew! The type of oysters they used were the smallest I have ever been served. I did leave still hungry that night. That's sad because some of the other dishes have been pretty good considering the price. It's not upper level dining but more like diner food. It's nice that they offer different choices of bread with your meal (when available) and also include a dessert. read more

My parents and I went to Fresh Country Cafe on a Saturday evening during the dinner rush. I was expecting to wait for a table, but we were seated quickly and our waitress took our drink orders within a few minutes. The drinks quickly arrived and we ordered our food after the waitress delivered the drinks. Once our food was ordered, however, it felt like we were forgotten about for 15+ minutes at a time. Our waitress only checked on us once, and it was about 40 minutes until we got our food. While I get that they were busy, there were at least half a dozen waitresses standing around the kitchen area chatting. It was frustrating to see. Once the food arrived, it was good, but it wasn't great. I think the combination of good food plus a really good price make this appealing to a lot of people, but the service is lacking substantially. If they could improve on the service, and the wait times for food, this could easily be 4 stars. read more

Service wasn't super friendly but they weren't rude until they decided it was time for us to go. With 20 minutes left to closing, the waitresses opened the blinds; flooding the restaurant and our faces with the full force of the setting sun. Well, I have only gotten carry out everything that I've gotten from fresh country Café has been freaking delicious. However, I'm disappointed with the way they portion things I ordered picadillo with black beans and yellow rice. I did not have an option to order Plantains thinking that two or three are normally a custom to coming with any Cuban food but I was given more rice and beans. Then I was Picadillo. It's not like it's a ribeye steak. It's ground beef it's not an expensive dish to make don't be stingy with it. I'll still go back, but maybe sometime I need to sit down and have it in the restaurant and see how they plate it. I am not speaking without knowledge I have been in the restaurant industry for over 30 years. I have owned three restaurants so I understand food cost, etc. I just think that maybe it's just on takeout. They're a little stingy with their portions. read more
