This small restaurant had decent food and excellent service. I got the fried pork chop with mashed potatoes and the dish was cooked perfectly and served hot. My companions had a mushroom Swiss burger (he said it was very good), and another dish was a ground sirloin steak with an egg on top that my nephew said was good. We also had fried green tomatoes, which was excellent and a side of cheesy grits, which was disappointing...why do restaurants that make grits not put salt in the water while cooking them? You can *not* add enough salt at the table to make up for unseasoned grits! I have been disappointed with this many times in restaurants. Anyway, most of the dishes here were good, homey and well received. Definitely recommend. read more

First time dining at The Black Eyed Pea and was very impressed in our experience!!! Upon entry we were told we can sit anywhere we want which was nice. Had fried green tomatoes as an appetizer which was great!!! All the food came out hot and full of flavor!!! Sweet tea was excellent!! Our first time stopping for lunch! We'd passed by many times and knew at some point we'd want to stop, because there's always a full parking lot! I ordered the vegetable plate, where I was able to select 4 delicious items (cabbage, okra, greens and a hamburger patty). And my bf, ordered the meatloaf dinner w/black eyed peas and a salad. Our waitress was very friendly and excited when we explained that it was our first visit. She advised of their most ordered items. Came in on Saturday when there was a bit if a wait. Breakfast is served until noon, but we opted for the lunch me u. They have most of the staples at a diner. I chose the meatloaf and the wife chose the grilled cheese. The pepsi branded drinks were good. The soup - today's selection was a creamy chicken, was phenomenal. I don't like to group or classify public places who serve others, but I have to voice my experience with this diner. I will never eat at this diner again. Poor quality food. The Philly Cheesesteak a small portion for $12. The chopped beef dinner was a hamburger with gravy on it, watery mashed potatoes and bland canned corn.
