PSA: Be mindful of how Black customers are treated at Fresh Thyme Market in Naperville... I had one of the most upsetting and disrespectful experiences at this location on Thursday, July 17th around 7:51 PM. I came in on my work break to pick up just two items: a plant-based Italian beef and an avocado that was clearly placed in the section marked "4 for $5." However, it rang up as $2.99. What followed was nearly 20 minutes of frustration and poor treatment. A young cashier delayed helping me, questioned me about the price in a condescending tone, and then called a manager who treated me even worse. Not only did the manager refuse to honor the price I saw posted, but he also accused me of switching the avocado sticker--a claim that was extremely offensive and baseless. I offered for them to review the security footage, and they refused. I felt racially profiled and disrespected over a simple produce item. As a Black woman, I can't ignore how I was treated in comparison to how I've seen other customers treated here. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and I will not be returning to this store. I hope management will address how they treat customers with more respect and dignity going forward. read more

I don't shop here very often these days so was surprised when I went in yesterday at the changes. For one thing, I noticed that the store seems rather more...sparse? This became glaringly obvious in produce where there was a huge gap (like a whole table missing: you could see the unfaded spot on the floor) but nothing else has replaced it or even hidden it. I'm curious if it's going to be left this way or if a change will eventually come... Also, most of the checkout lanes have been replaced with self serve kiosks now. Except the software isn't intuitive. I finished scanning and it says to pay, so ok, I entered my card. Aaaand nothing. I finally called for help. A young man who had probably answered the same question a million times said, "You press this button first, it's really not that hard." There's no need to be snarky about it; clearly this is a flaw in the design if it's not obvious. Overall, I haven't missed much by staying away from this store, apparently, which is a shame as I quite liked it when it opened. read more

While baging my groceries they forgot to include my chicken. I went to pick it up and they told me it's in the poultry department go get it. Instead if apologizing the manager told me it was my responsibility to make sure I had all my items. And it was procedure to sell it again after I paid for the item. I literally called then went back within an hour. Poor customer service on that decision. I decided on a refund because the manager blamed me for his mistake... so wrong fresh thyme... Time for manager training... again I went to a check out and they baged my item....my items total was 5! Fresh Thyme has a warm and friendly staff. The grocery store has better sales than Whole foods. I love their sushi station and they're deli counter. I love their beautiful produce section. It's really nice place to shop and looking around a lot of healthy minded items. I enjoy a lot of the products you can get wagyu ground beef at this Freshy Thyme wow it's only $7.70 for about little over a one pound. I opted for their T-bone steak instead on my recent trip to Fresh Thyme. read more

I was excited to try this place, disappointed. It looked like they were between deliveries- it was pretty bare and not a lot of options for fruits/veggies. The employees didn't seem like they wanted to be there, and the cashier was a little snappy while I was trying to do their self check out, which by the way is super slow. I gave 3 stars because my child loved the mini kids carts. read more

Great soups and a great salad bar. Excellent selection of cheeses. While my family has not been fond of any of the ready made pasta meals, nor the quiche, they love the Boar's Head sandwiches and the pot pies. And who can resist a free fruit stand for little ones while you shop? Not to mention a hidden tractor with a prize if they locate it! Fresh Thyme has an adequate selection of fruits and vegetables, but I'm forced to go elsewhere more frequently than I'd like, because they often don't have produce that I need. What they have is always very fresh. With a celiac family member, this store honestly saves me. They are full of GF items, which makes my life easier when he comes for dinner. This place ties for first place for my favorite grocery store! Every time we come in here we're greeted at some point of our trip. Employees seem genuinely happy and are constantly organizing / restocking items. We used to come here weekly when we lived in Naperville but only shop here now when we're in the area. Things that stick out to us number one is the customer service. There's various employees around the store accessible if you need help with anything and they're easily conversational when checking out. The whole place is spotless also. Probably the cleanest grocery store I've been to. Our favorite things to buy here: fresh produce, anything from the butcher, coffee beans,and any organic items. There's always a large variety of each and the quality is high. If you're someone who buys a lot of packaged products, this store can be pricey for you. They really focus on fresh products which makes them stand out! They have a huge selection of natural face/body products also. I suggest checking out their weekly flyer for deals. Great little store that is convenient since it's very close to my house. However, they HAVE to do something about the efficiency of the checkout lanes. Usually there's only one lane open with a long line and it takes forever. Was there the other night and there were 2 lanes open with 7-8 people in each line. There was a problem with every transaction. I bought an item that had a coupon on it. The woman ringing me up didn't know how to process the coupon so she had to wait for another woman to come over and show her. It's like that every time I come here!! The store closes at 9:00 PM. As I walked in the door at 8:45, an announcement over the PA system told me that the store would be closing in 14 minutes and to come to the checkout counters. Not the best way to greet customers , but Ok, I grabbed a few things and 5 or 6 minutes later I came up the the one counter that had a person there and was told she had shut down and I should use the self checkout. I don't like self checkout, so I put my stuff down and started to leave. The clerk said that she would help me to use self checkout. I don't need help; I expect to her to do it. I left without a purchase and went to the Jewel instead. My last revue of this store was made 6 years ago and I trashed Fresh Thyme. I've been shopping here on and off since it opened, but in recent visits the service level and food quality has been very poor. On my visit yesterday I noticed moldy/bad produce, expired items in the refrigerated cases, and the most shocking of all, moldy almond based cheese in the vegan case! I don't consume dairy products and I can assure you cheese substitutes take a LONG time to mold. I don't think I'll be shopping here anymore, the extremely rude and careless employees make the experience very unpleasant, as I was leaving today 2 female employees were on their break in front of the store, talking openly and loudly about how much they hate their work environment, not what I want to overhear as a customer. I work in retail management and I can tell this store is poorly managed and has a high turn of employees who don't care about their job. Sad. read more

My family are big fans of Fresh Thyme. Size is perfect to get in/out quickly, great curated produce, dairy, meats, seafood, etc. Good selection of healthier, including plant based options. Great meat counter/butcher shop. Sushi Thursdays is a bargain - lots of $5 options. So...the main reason I am writing this is to commend Charles in the butcher shop. BIG shout-out for his customer service the other day. We have been frequent purchasers of their cook-in-bag salmon. These are fresh pieces of salmon with asparagus that comes in a microwave ready bag that will steam everything to perfection in about 6 mins. They have been great for us when short on time and we've purchased for our older parents who love the convenience. They also do this with tilapia and chicken fajitas. They are all good. That said, stopping by yesterday on my way to my dads, i was disappointed to see that they were out of these, no salmon, tilapia...nothing. Very sad. Charles noticed my dismay and asked if he could help. I explained the situation and he told me the cook-in-bag items are currently not "on the plan" they were given from corporate. Big bummer as I know, at least in this store, they sold quick. Charles immediately offered to make me up a couple of salmon bags. He quickly took fresh salmon pieces, cut up fresh asparagus, seasoned it all, added fresh lemon to the bag, and prepared the items for me! He was obviously busy when he approached me, but took the time to listen and then "fix" the problem (at least for the day). Thank you Charles!! Message to Fresh Thyme. Please don't stop preparing those cook-in-bag meals. They are a great, fresh, healthy item. I know they were selling (especially the salmon) at the naperville location. Thanks! read more

OMG! My husband and I went here to pick up some lunch meat. It was around 6 pm and we noticed no one at the deli counter and we decided to wait. After a few minutes we decided to return to the deli counter and the man finally showed up after taking a bathroom break. I went back to tell the girl who was at the register they the deli was in fact, still open to which she replied and I quote, Then go yo the deli. No apologies whatsoever. Imagine that. Like nothing happened. So I called her supervisor to complain and he defended her conjuring up every imaginable or unimaginable excuse to excuse her behavior. I hung up on him in pure disgust. Needless to say we won't be shopping there anytime soon. In case you're considering shopping here run like your the last two monkeys boarding Noah's Ark and it's starting to rain. Recently opened. Been here maybe 4 times, all different hours and you'd think they were giving away something for free. But they were not. Not a particularly large store, for me it would not be a place I could do all my shopping in, because they don't stock a lot of can goods. Produce is good and sale prices are good. Lotsa organic items. I only buy organic for the "dirty dozen" of produce, but they have non organic too in decent amounts. Fairly clean, seems well run. Shelves have been well stocked on my few visits. Nothing I'm crazy about at this place, it's ok. read more

Fresh,Friendly,Ethical and Trust worthy. I say this after a lot of research. I go there every day. All fresh produce are stocked daily. When i buy the Kalona Organic milk, usually they have like 10 half gallons and when they are out, they do not restock it until the next day. The same can be said for produce. Each item say organic apples or bananas are stocked just enough to sell. Then the organic stuff, they carry a lot of organic stuff, which are from small companies and businesses. I use the app "buycott" to scan every product's barcode and this store carries the highest number of organic products that are from small companies. The produce are mostly from Michigan, Wisconsin and Washington.Stocked almost daily. I say this because some like to shop locally. Eggs, come locally, but mostly Wisconsin. The sea food section, they take the time to answer your questions. If it is previously frozen (or) comes from far away, they state it honestly. I always shop at stores that can be trusted, instead of labels, as they are now rendered meaningless. If you do shop based on labels, below is a short guideline. Natural -- Crap..(even coke is legally natural) GMO free -- Crap. (An animal fed GMO grain , is still legally GMO free) Organic -- Trust with Caution. Ensure it is from a smaller company (use "buycott" app for that) Cage Free Eggs -- Crap. Just bigger cage. Free Range -- Crap. Even bigger cage, with access to outdoors, but chickens never access. Pasture raised -- Trust with caution. Read how much square foot per chicken. 90 Sq ft + is good. read more

Fresh Thyme appears to be completing the transition to their new corporate owners, budget superstore Meijer out of Michigan. I've seen a progressive decline in the quality of their seafood and meat department. They used to have outstanding seafood available. I ordered cod yesterday and was completely disappointed, Cod which is probably the least fishy type of seafood available was extremely fishy to the point we disposed of it. I asked the clerk if she had any in the back that was not thawed and she replied that it was in a large box and all filets were still frozen together and she was unable to chip any out of the frozen clump. I'm out! They can't pretend to compete with Whole Foods when you offer low end garbage. Another decent company ruined by corporate greed. read more

We used to shop here weekly because we live close by. Several negatives that made us stop: 1. worms in bulk dried food, we sometimes find out after we cook the couscous, or rice, but sometimes find out AFTER dinner there were worms in the leftovers. Our pantry is still infested with worms and moths. Now that I know to look for them, I could even see the worms in the plastic bins. Will not buy bulk there again. 2. On multiple occasions, raw chicken went bad too early after purchase. They don't take too kindly when you bring them back to return. 3. Deli counter- bought some sandwich and prepared lunch-- green peppers were spoiled, ruined the whole meal! The only reason for 2 stars vs 1 is that some of the staff are friendly and helpful. The meat counter guys offer good service. And that the veggies / fruits are usually good (but not always). read more

The name suits the grocery store because everything they have inside are really fresh be it produce, meat, prepared foods and any other goodies inside. The store is also clean and bright, the layout is nice and mostly are well-organized. I do not go in here most of the time and I just visited the store and I do not know when was the last time before that but I like their selection of products and I would most probably do my regular groceries in here seeing their wonderful, fresh and good quality products especially their produce and meats. The prices are also very reasonable and they also have sales that I saw on some products. However, as much as I wanted to love this store their customer service is more on the down side specifically their staffs. The staffs are not friendly nor nice and the checkout really took long. I am not a patient man and experiencing those long minutes in the checkout and knowing the staff isn't efficient is not really my thing. The selection of products in here are yes, great but because of their staffs and their checkout, I change my mind of considering this as my go-to store for groceries. read more

I try to eat as much organic food as possible, and avoid artificial ingredients at all costs, even when binging on foods I shouldn't be eating like pizza, cookies, chips, and ice cream. Previously my only local options were the merciless organic oligarchy price gougers Whole Foods and Fruitful Yield, or Trader Joe's, which I do like but they don't have the variety of the other two. When I read about Fresh Thyme stores and their soon to be grand opening in Naperville I didn't want to get too excited. Still I vowed to perform my due diligence and see what they had to offer. They are nothing like Whole Foods or Fruitful Yield! When they are having a sale, it doesn't mean they are lowering their prices from CEO to middle management affordability. Some of my recent sale item purchases include: 99 cents organic green peppers! 99 cents a pound organic apples, oranges, grapefruit! Buy one get one free organic kombucha drinks! Buy one one free organic ice cream! Buy one get one organic free tortilla chips! I have also had a very pleasant experience with their meat and seafood department from both a quality and service standpoint. They are very knowledgeable on the origins of their fish, which is of the utmost importance to my family. Let's face it, atrocious farming practices are running rampant and most stores are not committed to helping customers avoid such "food". I look forward to my next trip! read more

The most convenient small grocery store around my place. This has become my go-to store. It is always clean, organized and well stocked. They have a great selection of everything I needed in my groceries. They remain constant on providing fresh produce. Meat and seafood section are always fresh as well. They also have a bice selection of deli. I like their prepared foods section and whenever I feel lazy I would just buy my food in here and the foods was not that bad because all of it tastes good. Aside from this, their prices are fair and reasonable. Staffs are nice and friendly too. The only downside is when there is a lot of people inside, there would always be long line in checkout and the longest time I waited was about fifteen minutes. read more

It's about thyme. It's been rough since Dominicks closed at Raymond and N. Aurora. The nearest Jewel is pretty ordinary and Whole Foods is a bit of a hike. The selection is what I would call "curated" rather than limited. What there is, is of good quality. The produce is great. The meat looks good, although I miss Whole Foods' signs that indicate the level of treatment of the animals that provided the meat. Right now everyone that works there is enthusiastic and checkout is easy. Check back with me in a month and I'll let you know if I'm ready to give it the 5th star. But at a minimum it is convenient and on the whole less expensive than Whole Foods. read more

The absolute best part about this place are the made to order personal pizzas. Not only are they made from scratch however you'd like but they're like $5!!! I've had a couple people here almost insist on giving me plastic bags for things like meat. If you're looking for GOOD organic produce, this is your best bet...the prices are VERY reasonable here! Other things...not so much, but you can get some good weekly deals when checking their flyer because things that normally don't go on sale are on sale here. Also, they have an app now with coupons while you're shopping, etc. so if you frequent this place I suggest getting the app too. They have a nice wine selection here too! Someone came up behind me a second or two later and the cashier looked at him, grabbed his item and rung him up first. He was surprised but went along with it and checked out. LOVE Fresh Thyme. They always have great items on sale and both their produce and meats are some of the best I've gotten from nearby stores. My family and I frequent this store several times a week. Even my toddler enjoys going because he knows he'll get to have a yummy piece of fruit while we shop.
