We have a similar Greek place nearby that I always thought was just average, but it is a lot better. At Freskos the gyros did not have many vegetables and the shakes were just outright strange. I recently was at Freskos for lunch. It was in a office park in downtown Hamden. I had the feta cheese dip with pita chips which was very good. I then ate the pizza with feta and souvlaki which was tasty! Seating for around 20 here. Friendly service. They also have lunch special = sandwich, chips, and a drink for $10. read more

The young woman who took my order was efficient, friendly and knew what she was doing. Without exception, EVERYTHING I tried was flavorful and fresh. If you're looking for, or want to try, quality Greek food where there's something for everyone on the menu, this is the place. Healthy food can really be delicious! Packed very well to go, the gigantes and sauce were seasoned perfectly, the avgolemono soup was out of this world good, the souvlaki was packed full of chicken and pork (no skimping here), the lemon potatoes are among the best I've ever eaten, fried cheeseballs were very tasty with spicy feta dip, but for me, the star of mthe meal was the strained yogurt with sour cherries and honey. I would come back just for that. I live near a couple of similar restaurants in Fairfield County, but I will make the drive to Hamden for Freskos whenever I'm craving Greek food again because their food is so much better than anywhere else I've tried. read more

Absolutely amazing! I picked up three gyros here for dinner one night as myself and my husband wanted to try the different filings. We had chicken, shrimp and the classic lamb gyro. They were all delicious, but by far the classic gyro was our favorite. What I liked most is that they give you a lot of tzaziki sauce. I usually always have to ask for extra sauce but in this case I didn't even have to ask. It was perfectly proportioned. I stopped in 15 minutes before closing and so I was expecting that they might not be happy with a last-minute type of customer, but the owner was nothing but nice. He was very polite and open to having a conversation. I brought the three gyros home for my husband and they were gone in a second! Do yourself a favor and order two! read more

Maybe 2 stars is a little harsh hit 3 stars would be too many. Take this as a 2.5 star review. We go in to order take out, we order 2 gyros and a Greek salad. After we paid and we're waiting for order we are told they are out of pita and we had to use wraps. Well first of all, we should have been told that before we ordered, maybe I don't like wraps. And what Greek place runs out of pita bread? It's like a pizza place running out of sauce. Anyway we get it home and it's an average gyro that tasted like you would get at a fair or carnival. The taziki (spelling) had no cucumber at all. It was thick and I swear it was plain cream cheese not taziki. The Greek salad was lousy, tomatoes were orange, I have no idea what the dressing was that was on it and the feta was meh. I was going to order Greek yogurt from their "yogurt bar" but didn't because I asked do you make the yogurt or is it store bought? They were honest and said store bought. So I said Nah, I have some of that at home in the fridge. I won't be back. This place has nothing on the place in Milford! ***UPDATE****Came back to give them another try on 7/6/17 and I still didn't like it. Sorry Yelpers, this is the worst Greek I've ever had. Taziki tasted like plain Greek yogurt no cucumber at all. Meat dry and tasteless, and Guy at the counter is not friendly.
