We really enjoyed this Greek restaurant for take out (which kind of teeters on a Italian- Mediterranean fusion). I'll preface this review by saying that I've never been to Greece. That being said, I sincerely hope this is authentic and if it is, then I have got to get to Greece someday! Delicious Greek cuisine just down the road from my mom's house in CT. We traveled to Santorini last year and this food stateside was just as delicious. Mom had the lamb chops which were amazing. I had the chicken Mykonos in red sauce with feta, fabulous. Also had wine from Santorini which was ah-mazing!! Open and airy and large seating capacity. I was craving good greek food, and boy did I find it! With an extensive menu, some italian dishes included, there is a lot to choose from. I ordered the gyro plate with a side greek salad and my husband had the chicken parmigiana. Each dish was excellent! My salad was super fresh, with delicious dressing. The tzatziki to go with my gyro plate was some of the best I've ever had. The gyro meat was so tender and tasty. My husband said his chicken was also very tender. We had a really great experience at Mykonos Mediterranean Restaurant today. The service was excellent from start to finish. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The space inside is wide open and beautiful, with a warm, family feel. The fireplace was a really nice touch and added to the overall cozy vibe. We ordered a spread and the food was beautifully displayed with healthy ingredients. The spanakopita and dolmathes were spot on, the gyro plate was generous, and we had more than enough food to take home. Always a good sign. What a hidden gem of a place on the Berlington turnpike in Newington. It's a pretty large place and we had no trouble getting a table on a Mon night but it was still busy which is a good sign. I got a glass of the greek agioritiko which is a nice red wine. They let me try a bit before committing to a glass. My friend and I split the vegetarian dolmathes. We also had an option for the traditional beef version. They were delicious!! Good texture from the grape leaves and the rice was well seasoned. I like that it was served with tzatziki as well. For the main I got the shrimp mykonos with a side of veggies. The shrimp was a tomato based dish with a lot of depth of flavor and it was topped with feta. A good amount of shrimp too. The letdown was the veggies. They almost seemed like they were frozen and then cooked since they were so mushy. It would have been a lot better if they were fresh. It was a nice variety though. What an excellent restaurant - authentic, well-made dishes with huge portions at reasonable prices. I've been here several times now and it's been consistent each time. Food - Authentic and well made. For apps, normally not a fan of grape leaves, but theirs was very good. Melitzana was also delicious. I'd skip the falafel next time. Their gyro plate and chicken gyro plate were both excellent (the chicken gyro is essentially a chicken shawarma plate). You can get it with grilled vegetables which I highly recommend. Overall, amazing food. Service - Overall good, can't complain. Tables slightly small if dining for 2 given how huge the plates are, but that's more a testament to their huge portions than anything. A few years ago we had a bad experience here not related to the food but to the wait and general disorganization around managing the crowd. We decided to give it another chance last night and I'm glad we did. They have expanded quite a bit since the last time I was there and it was much needed. We got there early and it wasn't too crowded but maybe a half hour later it was packed. Inside it's very nice and the staff was very pleasant. The grilled calamari was great as was the souvlaki. The rice was good as were the potatoes; you can pick one with your souvlaki. Portions are quite large so plan accordingly. Prices are good for what you get. I had a Greek wine and it was actually pretty good. The Berlin Turnpike is kind of a death-valley for decent restaurants that aren't cheesy chain places so this place really stand out. Another birthday lunch [yes. I know the b'day was in early September] hosted by a dear friend. Haven't eaten here is a bit and don't know why not. Excellent meal starting with that freshly baked hot little loaf of bread and dip, calamari and the hummus platter. This was a meal in itself but really got better. We were in town for the Hartford marathon and ended up, loving Mykonos so much that we came back a 2nd time on our last night in town. The service was excellent, and the food was incredible. We also really liked the atmosphere. My mother used to make dolmas that were phenomenal, I have to say Mykonos veggie dolmas even topped hers. I was stunned. The spanakopita was also excellent. The chicken souvlaki main entrée was incredible, if you're looking to get a couple appetizers and split a main course, you could definitely do that with the souvlaki. (Last visited 10/21/2022.) Yelp tells me I've visited this place 7 times in the last 2 years and with good reason! Now I'll tell you why that's the case! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right off the Berlin Turnpike in Newington just mere minutes from Bae's house is this gem! I'm not going to lie, it's quite easy to drive right past this place, but what got our attention were the lit-up "igloos" that they had for outdoor seating during COVID-19 post-lockdown when restaurants were only allowed to sit people outdoors. So now you know they have a pretty decent patio for the warmer months and the inside is fairly small, maybe 10 tables or so. It's a really chill atmosphere with an open kitchen concept. There are lots of big windows to let it natural light which is one of my favorite aspects of this place. Service: Now, truth-be-told, I've never actually eaten IN here. Lol. Bae and I have always gotten takeout. The staff here are always friendly though! Food: My go-to here is the Mediterranean chicken salad with gyro chicken. The salad is freaking huge for one. It comes with mixed greens, tomatoes, onions, olives, cranberries, walnuts and feta cheese. The ingredients are so simple and they work together so well. The chicken is savory, hearty and deliciously seasoned. I've also had their lamb gyro and it was fantastic. The meat was succulent, juicy and FULL of flavor. It was a great size and certainly filling. The gyro came with tomatoes, onions and great tzatziki sauce. Fantastic food. Value: The gyro was $11.00 and was totally worth it. You may want a small salad or something to go along with it though due to its heartiness. The Mediterranean salad is $14.00 and it costs $5.00 to add a portion of chicken, gyro chicken or gyro meat. Shrimp is $7.00. Not a bad deal at all considering the portions they serve. In conclusion, Mykonos will always be a go-to of mine if I'm coming home and just want to pick something up or just simply don't feel like cooking! Lol. I had a yearning for some Greek food so we went to Mykonos in Newington. Overall I liked it. Pleasant and friendly staff, very generous portions and decent prices. They offer many expected Greek dishes including pitas, lamb and eggplant. I love eggplant and got the stuffed ( with spinach and feta) eggplant. At first the flavor profile was different than what I expected but it came to grow on me. They brought fresh warm bread with garlic olive oil for dipping. We also ordered the skordalia as an appetizer. As a result I was only able to eat about half of my main course. No worries as I love leftovers.
