In what seemed like a residential neighborhood, this hidden gem is quite a find. With an offering of mediterranean food, this restaurant is clean, quiet, and cozy. I ordered the greek salad, and baked stuffed shrimp casserole which were both tasty. My husband had the penne and meatballs which he said was very good and a nice sized portion (sorry no pictures captured of his dish). I capped my meal off with a nice cappuccino, but there were some yummy sounding desserts offered. Our waitress, Lily was very welcoming and always made sure we had what we needed. We sat in a booth in the dining room, but the bar looked great and there was a party in the other room. Wasn't crowded for a Friday night, but its larger then it appears. We made reservations but certainly did not need them. Although the ambiance was nice, the food was just ok. I got the lamb which was a good size portion, but the asparagus had an interesting sauce on it and I needed to add seasoning which I don't usually do. Others had the chicken feta which looked good and the chicken and shrimp. I am ashamed to admit that I haven't been to Laskara in over a decade, despite growing up around the corner. During my current stay in Wallingford, we've been trying to do takeout once a week and recently saw the Barstool story about Laskara, so we made sure to get there. Last week was my mom's birthday and she chose Laskara for her birthday takeout. I called in our order and went to pick it up 25 minutes later. They had signs clearly requiring masks (thumbs up!) and had hand sanitizer readily available. I could see that the staff all had on their appropriate PPE, including the greeter who wore a face shield. I could see the partitions between booths hanging from ceilings and it was clear that they're taking social distancing seriously. I picked up our order and headed out. We got two meals - eggplant parm and chicken a la vodka. They gave us two (small) salads and dressing on the side. Both were fresh and yummy although I wish I had asked to hold the onions. Our meals were soooo good and we were able to stretch them into 3 (!!!) good-sized meals each. 6 meals instead of 2, altogether. TLDR; Large portions provide extra meals. Safe practices. Opa! This is a casual, unassuming restaurant with a family feel but with a touch of class. You could bring your family here or come for an intimate, romantic dinner. We were greeted by a gregarious woman who showed us to a booth by the bar area. It was a cozy seat, but the room was pretty loud with rowdy barflies. We wanted to sit in the quieter dining area, which looked much nicer, however, the hostess said they didn't have enough wait staff for that section. The menus were large and had a good selection of seafood, meats and pastas, Italian and Greek choices. Our waiter, Zach, was down to earth, personable and efficient. He quickly brought out our waters, a bread basket, and the family style salad which was delicious! It was small for a table of 4, so we had to ask for another serving. It was served on a plate, and should've been served in a large bowl. But it was incredibly appetizing with crispy lettuce, black olives, mozzarella cheese, onion and other ingredients. The house dressing was light and complimented the salad beautifully. 3 out of my 4 table mates ordered the Salmon Theodore and loved it. It was served with mashed potatoes and greens. I ordered the spanakopita! Hands down the best spanakopita I've ever had!! The phyllo was stuffed with a spinach and feta mixture and the pastry was flaky and buttery. I couldn't believe how large the triangles were! They were served on a bed of feta with a serving of slightly crisp spinach on the side. They steam it and then bake it for a few minutes and the outcome is amazing! It was worth having bits of green in my teeth!! The prices are a tad high, but worth the quality. The chef is fabulous! Once some of the lounge lizards left, the place quieted down and we enjoyed our dining experience! I'd recommend this restaurant whole heartedly and come back to try more options!! read more

My husband and I tried Laskara's for the first time tonight and eh... it was just ok. The staff was friendly. We used the QR code to order our food and that menu said the shrimp cocktail would have 6 shrimp but the server said it was only 4, so that was disappointing. Then we had the house salad that was super over dressed and was iceberg lettuce. When you're paying around $20 or more for any meal on the menu, I definitely don't expect iceberg lettuce. I ordered the Salmon Theodore and the salmon was delicious but the horseradish mashed potatoes were not. You couldn't even tell there was horseradish and the potatoes were watery; not creamy or what I would think when I get mashed potatoes. It also had a small lettuce salad that was with real greens, so that was nice, but the dressing was opposite - it had the smallest amount of dressing. On the salmon was an artichoke relish but there was more roasted red pepper than artichoke! I was pretty disappointed. My husband had the chicken parmigiana and he said the chicken was good but the sauce was just eh... I will say, I heard another server with his tables and he was extremely knowledgeable of the dishes, their ingredients & flavors. One last thing. I was considering the stuffed shrimp casserole instead of the salmon. When I inquired about the stuffing, I was told they use imitation crab. Again, when dining in an establishment with higher prices, I definitely expect real seafood. But that did make my choice for me! The salmon, itself, was delicious! read more

First time here last night- it was our anniversary dinner and we did arrive rather late (8:30 and they close at 10). However we were greeted by a very pleasant hostess and waitress despite our late arrival. We came specifically on a recommendation from my boss as well as the fact that they had clams on the half shell on the menu. Unfortunately they were out of clams (but reasonably so; i guess the beds are still frozen). So we opted for the mussels di zuppa instead. OMG best mussels ive had! They were super fresh and plump and the sauce was great! My boyfriend almost picked up the bowl to drink it. They get 5+ for the mussels. They also give you bread and a family style greek salad during the appetizer course. I was craving red meat so i went with the NY strip however I really wanted to try the seabass because it looked amazing. My steak was ok- it was good but not steakhouse good, but I cant really expect that from them since they aren't a steakhouse! Cost was 29 and it came with mashed potatoes and carrots. My boyfriend got the shrimp/scallops over linguine in a zuppa sauce. I was worried because we just had a bad experience at another local restaurant with the same dish but he loved it! He kept saying how great the seafood was and the sauce and thats clear that they really care about their sauces. Price for that was 23. We also got wine (6.50 a glass for house that was really good for my tastes) and corona (4.95). So prices for drinks weren't bad. Lastly, our waitress Jamie was great. We never felt rushed (despite being the absolute last people out of the place) and she spent time talking to us in general. Overall great experience and we will go back, i need to try that seabass! We recently went to Laskara's for dinner after purchasing a Groupon. The restaurant is off the beaten path and if you didn't know it was there or travel in that area you may be hard pressed to find out about It. However, its worth a trip. We started with the chicken wings as an appetizer and they may be some of the best I've tasted. They were very crispy on the outside while staying juicy and flavorful on the inside. For our entrees, we ordered the stuffed shrimp casserole, chicken and shrimp piccata and pasta with meatballs. Everything was very flavorful and delicious. The only complaint we had was the chicken breast for the chicken piccata was very small but thankfully we had the wings. They also serve a salad, family style, that includes feta cheese and grape leaves. The dressing was very tasty and the salad was nice and fresh. Despite the restaurant being fairly empty, the service was excellent. I would certainly return to try another item off the menu. read more

We came here for our anniversary dinner and loved it. It's pretty easy to find, stands out on the corner where it is. Yes, as some have said the decor may be a bit dated but once you start eating the amazing food you don't even notice. Our waiteress was warm and friendly and went out of her way to look up a cocktail recipe than she wasn't too familiar with. The cocktail came out great. We had the saganaki for our appetizer. It's this cheese in olive oil and they set it on fire. So, so tasty! My husband got the paella for his main and it was delicious. I had the lamb chops and they were cooked to perfection. We love this place! My family gets together to see shows at Oakdale and we always have dinner at Laskara when we do. The food is excellent, the service prompt and thoughtful. We usually arrive a few at a time so our server has to hustle drinks (White Chocolate Raspberry Martini) and apps as we get settled. We have owned and worked in restaurants, so we know that can make servers a little testy, but never here. Last time we were there I had an extra ticket, our server noticed them on the table, so I tried to convince her to join us. She sadly declined, telling us she would be closing, along with her mom who was in the kitchen. They are family owned and run. We had Spanakopita, fried calamari and stuffed mushrooms for our apps; for entrees: prime rib, which was huge, Salmon Theodore and Chicken Princess, silly name for a tasty dish. Due to time, we passed on dessert. After writing this, I think I need dinner there again, and soon. read more

So glad we decided to get Laskara takeout last night. We moved to Wallingford in April, so our restaurant experiences have all been via takeout. We realized Laskara was right down the street from us and had to try it! We got the spanakopita, meatballs, and calamari for apps and the chicken parm for our meal. We are eating the chicken tonight because we were SO FULL just from the apps last night. It also came with bread and a side salad, which was a nice touch for a takeout meal. It was all delicious and better than what we could even expect. My boyfriend picked it up and said the staff was so nice and friendly. They even sanitized before handing him the bag and sanitized the pen for him to sign for his credit card. Couldn't ask for a better experience. Thank you, Laskara! We will be back for sure. Love going yo laskara s restaurant. We hadn't been for several months due to Covid 29 pandemic. They were closed - for inside dining. Take out only. And just recently opened the inside dining again. So we decided to go this past Thursday. We are so glad we did. We really missed the owners and waitstaff and the food. We had chicken princess dinner and and chicken feta dinner. And their house salad. Absolutely enjoyed it. Please give laskara a try if you haven't been there. You won't be disappointed at all. It has a large seating area. Laskara's continues to be a hidden treasure in Wallingford. Maybe not so hidden, as on my latest visit it was quite busy. Even without a reservation, we were escorted to a table as soon as we arrived and, lucky us! On this very chilly evening, the fireplace was roaring and our table was right next to it. It's a "real" fireplace, too; no propane or fake flames. Real logs providing that wonderful scent and crackle! Our server came over immediately and throughout the meal, could not have been more attentive. For an appetizer, I ordered the Tuna Tartare special which was beautifully presented in a martini glass. Chunks of avocado and small cubes of absolutely fresh and tender tuna were complimented by a mildly citrus dressing. It came with freshly made, still warm, pita triangles. My first thought was, who would bother eating all that bread? After one taste, I knew it would be me! I could have made a meal on the appetizer alone. I can only rave about the combination of flavors, the gorgeous presentation, and the high quality of all the ingredients. And I wish I knew how to make pita like that! I had the lamb chops off the regular menu; 6 perfectly cooked (rare), deliciously seasoned chops with mashed potatoes that were the best tasting mashed potatoes I've had in years. I tried to eat everything on my plate, but the portions at Laskara are generous and I had to bring some of my meal home. Dessert was rice pudding (again, a large portion), creamy and obviously homemade. It was a lovely ending to a perfect meal. I continue to be amazed that this off-the-beaten-path restaurant isn't better known outside of Wallingford. Or even IN Wallingford! When people think of Wallingford dining, they think of the center of town, or Rt. 5. Laskara's is truly the best restaurant in town, hands down. read more

Slow service, disgusting bathrooms, dirty plates and glasses, and numerous menu and drink items unavailable. The food was bland and serving sizes were smaller than in the past. Great restaurant, we an important dinner and again the food was great, wonderful lamb, perfectly cooked filets, super salmon and my wife loved her jambalaya. The appetizers were equally wonderful, especially the Saganaki (flaming Greek cheese). The salad is always nice, the salad dressing is wonderful and I especially love the grape leaves.
