The food itself is the quiet star. Each dish arrives as a small masterpiece of balance--flavors layered with intention, textures that surprise without gimmickry. In short, this is one of the very best restaurants I've ever visited--anywhere. It doesn't chase trends or demand attention; it earns it through quiet excellence. If you value food that respects both ingredient and diner, make the reservation. You'll likely find yourself, as I did, already planning the return visit. Highly recommended--worth every moment and mile, and we come from SWFL.

I chose the opal basil dish with scallops. I have celiac, so rice was the base for a gluten free option. My husband had the crawfish with cognac and pasta dish. The descriptions on the menu were very different, however the dishes seemed to have the same base sauce. And boy was it salty!!! My husband adds salt to everything and both dishes were too salty even for his taste. Hoping this was a one off and quality hasn't declined. On a better note, the gingerbread cake was top notch!!

It's part of the Nantahala Outdoor Center which offers all kinds of river trips but we were there in February so no one was on the water. The food has always been top notch and the wait staff are wonderful. We had their Onion Rings for an appetizer which were very good. They are dipped in a whiskey beer batter and server with a spicy dip. They did not disappoint. I ordered the Quinoa Salad with Blackened Steak, amazing! My partner got the special which was fresh trout filet, blackened, with fresh mango/pineapple salsa. Also amazing. For dessert we ordered the chocolate brownie sundae with vanilla ice cream. OMG! Heaven in your mouth. It's just one of my favorite places. Our waiter was Huxley who was very helpful and just a really nice guy. We will definitely be going back.

The food was good, the atmosphere was relaxing, and it's a great spot to stop after a day of rafting or exploring Bryson City. We especially appreciated the excellent service and welcoming vibe. We're giving it 4.5 stars because we would have loved to see a little more variety on the menu, but other than that, everything was great. We would definitely recommend River's End to anyone visiting the area and looking for a pleasant meal by the river.

The meat and three along with the vegetable only options are welcomed changes to the family style only meal for those desiring smaller portions. In our experience, the food was served hot and was perfectly prepared. We chose white meat chicken and received two large breast that were excellent! The two catfish fillets and four slices of meat loaf were delicious. The vegetables were Lima beans, cabbage casserole, creamed corn, potatoes au gratin, slaw and a spring salad. All were served fresh with two biscuits and two corn muffins. The relish, apple butter and Sogrum-sage butter were delightful. We were blessed to have April for our server, and highly recommend her for your visit. She shared the history of the area and is proud of the changes and history of the Dillard House. Thank you for a great meal. The fried chicken is better than I remembered. Yes, the restaurant is open, and parts of the motel are being remodeled/updated and the new hotel is under construction. Don't let the remodeling deter you from the eating at the restaurant or enjoying your favorite drink from the bar.

Say for 15 minutes before the manager had to obtain a server for our table. After the food was delivered, the server did not provide adequate service. I requested a water refill, which took an additional 15 minutes, because she continually forgot. Food quality wasn't the greatest. They served chicken, which consisted of 2 thighs and 2 drumsticks. Along with friend catfish filets, that had been way over salted. Both were very soggy. I ate half the thigh and quit. Veggies? Only vegetables were Lima beans, everything else considered vegetables, was a casserole. A table full of starches. Over rated and over priced. Sadly disappointed. If you want good southern food, go further south to Thomasville, GA. Go to O'Neals. You can fool some folks, but not someone that knows southern cooking. We won't return.
