Plus, this is my first time here driving out, trying out new places to go fishing. It was a hot day so it brought out everyone grills were going. People were in the water. This is when everybody was about to pack up where we were sitting at so that's why you don't see anything in the picture but I enjoyed myself my husband got nibbles and bites, but nothing hooked on his head line a lot of little fish in the water.. but the scenery is what made it so wonderful

The hills around the Hensley Lake is so beautiful, it's filled with wildflowers such as fiddleneck,…read morered maids, popcorn flowers, purple lupine , blue dick, etc ... it's like the hills are covered with colorful carpets. The lake is quiet since the water level is pretty low , not many boats . We only saw one fishing boat today which is nice because it's quiet and peaceful. There are enough picnic tables and benches throughout the park , even a nice playground overlooking the lake. As of March 1, 2020 , there are tons of fiddleneck by the Vista Point area, park ranger headquarters area , pretty much all over the park. We saw five or six red tailed hawks, vultures flying around in the area , tons of side blotched lizard , western Honey Bee and some bumble bees. Bees are buzzing everywhere cuz of the flowers , you can hear them buzzing. Be cautious if you are allergic to them. It's a nice place to hike , bird, picnic or just explore!

Where : this place is tricky to find but it's behind the Clovis fire department Station 3 at the…read morecorner of Minewawa and Villa but, Villa ( if you are going from south ) it turns to Minewawa so instead of keep going , if you see the fire department, turn right immediately and the parking lot will be on your right. It's easy to miss since it's a very small parking lot ( enough for 5 - 6 cars). There's a potter potty there and a picnic table and some signage. You can park your car here and take the Dry Creek Trail to Cottonwood Park which is only 1/2 mile , or go a little further and hit Dry Creek Park and the Clovis Botanical Garden or , all the way to the other trailhead which is the metal horse statue (Sunnyside and Shepherd). There are mile markers along the trail so you know how far you walked from the trailhead. Nicely paved trail good for strollers too. Good walking and running trail.

Over the years he's…read morementioned it but we never got around to it until yesterday since we were close to the area, looking for something to do with our kiddos and the weather was surprisingly AMAZING especially it being the end of June. It's Sunday we arrived at 2pm, parking is free as well as admission! My husband asked if I had quarters he said he remembered you can buy the fish food with quarters! To our surprise the feed was free! It was in a closed wooden container. They have signage of asking people to only take a handful as a courtesy to others. There's also other signs that say to not touch the water or fishes and not to feed the little fishes. My family and I had a great time the kids LOVED seeing the fish eat as they fed them and quite relaxing watching them swim. We were there for about 30mins. They had a Hatchery Building and it showed the baby fishes. They have educational boards you can read about the fishes and habitat. Restrooms open but the women's sink wasn't working at that time and no soap. Overall for a free experience it was great! Will recommend and would come back!

How they kept these fishes alive from birth, eggs to alevin, parr, and lastly, adults. The fun part is feeding them. They'll follow you everywhere, even if you don't feed them.

February 25, 2020 Tuesday…read more Dry creek trailhead is at the southwest corner of Shepherd and Sunnyside. There's a parking lot ( free ) that can fit about 50 cars , clean restrooms , a windmill and a metal horse statue. Cross the street heading east and you'll find a trail. It's along a canal that's home to Canada Goose, ducks , mallards , coots , etc. I saw at least a dozen Canada Goose gracefully floating , ducking their heads under, chasing each other , taking naps under the warm sunlight. When I first got to the trail, I heard loud screeching sounds that sounded like eagles or owls. I had seen an owl here before but when I looked up with my binoculars , there was this huge beautiful Red-tailed hawk . He was screeching so loud and when I looked up at the sky , there was another red-tailed. I think he was trying to mate her. Ahhhh those raptor were so gorgeous. They were too far and couldn't get good pics but filmed their calling sounds. There was a construction going on after about half a mile and there was so much noise and dust , plus most likely there won't be any critters with all that's going on , so I turned around. The trail takes you all the way to the water basin where you can spot the migratory birds . There's huge mansions along the trail , pretty flowers and blossoms , you might spot an own or two or hawks along the way. From the parking lot , if you head south , there's another section of the trail and this one takes you all the way to the Dry Creek Park and there's a botanical gardens next to the park ( Clovis Botanical Gardens ) free admission. I like both sections of the trail . If you wanna see lots of birds go East from the parking lot.

Fun lake experience which makes for a great "beach day" when you're camping in the local area…read more There are many coves and areas to park and setup camp next to the water. On the north side of the lake are three pay parking lots. All three are viable and you don't need a 4x4. We set up around lot 3 one day and had a great time. Secret place. There's a free small parking lot in front of the Lake Watersports Marina. However if you drive south less than a mile from this marina you'll see a nondescript gravel road. Drive down this road then take the first left road and you'll see a small parking lot. This lot is right above the secluded beaches. Parking here will put your car much closer to your perfect beach spot. Tips - There are a few marinas on thia lake but I would NOT recommend the Sierra Marina. Their equipment, specifically their Kayaks are old and broken down. Also, they're not located in a good Kayak spot. I'd much rather recommend Shaver Lake Watersports for Kayaking.

Anywho, the dude and I come here before the Pandemic and I can tell you that traffic definitely increased when the pandemic occurred as we would not see many people. Anywho, the first time I came to this park which is just across the street from our living quarters. The first time Clovis PD was there removing the homeless camps. Behind Letterman park there is a beautiful canal that has a princess path to get to it and this is where we saw duck couples and followed the same duck couple until they had babies of their own and started to feed their family. The park has a skate park attached to it, grassy areas, play structures and seating. Over the 5 or 6 months we have been frequenting this park we have seen which the pandemic came through and they had to shut down the park by putting caution tap all around. We seen people camp out here, do exercise classes and homeless roaming which he didn't see a lot of that before the pandemic. We walk out there all hours of the day and night. We bring flash lights as it gets pretty dark. We have met a lot of amazing people like a woman for the past 17 years will come out and feed abandoned domestic cats which there are about 10 of them. A really cool homeless dude that gives us updates on our duck babies and action going on. Teens out late probably up to no good. Met a father of three who was a cool dude who was laid off due the pandemic and his kiddos were so adorable! We see Clovis PD in back of the park all the time! So this park gets A LOT of action. However since it's so close we come here A LOT and will continue to do pandemic or not!

A great green grassy area was there with huge trees for shade that was great to run around in and little stands to watch the skateboarders although we just climbed up and down them. Overall I would come back, we stayed on our end of the park as the other seemed to have some homeless people at the picnic benches, they seemed harmless, but I don't want to risk anything happening so we stayed on our end. There was a trail too along the canal there with a fence which was nice as you don't want the kids to run into it or fall in.

Our son loves the swings and small toddler structure, and our daughter loves the rock structure, the bigger structure, and the climbing hill. It's definitely worth the drive here from Fresno for this cool park!
