Not my first choice but better than I thought it would be. Chori-pollo plate was wonderful! The salsa actually had refried beans in it (or just was thinned out refried beans. It doesn't say anything from outside. But it has a big menu. The food is delicious, huge plates and plenty to eat. I can tell you, you can leave with a doggie bag for another whole meal. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars, is because the service seems to be scattered. I don't know if it was because there were lots of tables to wait, or the staff is new, but we had to ask for drinks a few times before they were brought to our table (one of them, we had to go to the bar to pick it up). I hate leaving a negative review like this but our food and this restaurant left a lot to be desired. Having visited recently I would never return. It's not clean, and clearly not taking Covid even remotely seriously. I'm not one who cares about masks a lot, but in this climate a salsa bar that is not being sanitized regularly between customers and looks dirty is not good. Honestly even without Covid it wasn't clean enough. As a side note, the disposable ramekins are to small to enjoy dipping the large chips in. The bean dip was gross, cheese dip had zero flavor and was not hot even when arriving to the table. My child thought her food was bland and unappetizing. My meal was so bad I couldn't even force myself to eat it. This is a dish I order almost everywhere I get Mexican food, and I'm not picky. The sever could clearly see I wasn't eating and asked if I wanted a box instead of asking anything else. She was busy chatting at the bar and clearly didn't want to be helping us. It was basically empty and she was nowhere to be found. The rice was greasy and flavorless as well. This was hands down the worst Mexican food I've had. I've had Mexican food in several states where I've lived or traveled as well as Mexico and none have been this bad. Great food. Best Chile relleno I've had since moving to South Carolina from California. A few of the salsa bar options are kind of a waste of space and would be great replaced with standard Pico. I will start this review with the food was absolutely amazing. The problem is the staff. The staff is costing this restaurant a lot of money. If I owned this restaurant I works fire my kids and family working there because they absolutely did not want to be there and said it a few times loud enough for us to hear. I sat close enough to the kitchen to here "fuck this fuck that" over and over. They closed 1.5 hours before closing and turned away at least 3 tables between 745 and 815. Between listening to the girls cussing at each other, the booty dancing and vaping in the restaurant by a server, and the fighting between employees it was a terrible experience. The excellent food was muted by the lack of concern or care for the restaurant. They didn't charge everything to my bill, and I mentioned it and they didn't care. Why because they aren't paying to operate the restaurant. You need staff that cares, that won't cuss and scream, kick willing patrons out, etc. Finally, they were out of an item and didn't tell us until the did was brought out. Tell people before. Don't just apologize and do nothing about it. This was a nightmare. A bunch of 20 somethings who hated their job. My server was actually really nice, and did a good job. It just didn't help that it was a big out of control party without any type of real management. The whole experience turned my stomach. Your staff is costing you money. You need real management because the kids are killing your business with their lack of care, laziness, and inappropriate behavior and language. read more

We also waited 15 minutes for a check that never came--while the staff at the counter explained to two older adults why they couldn't get their after-dinner margaritas in to-go cups to drink while walking down the street. Others were very unique or super spicy. Our service was friendly when it came. The manager came over to take care of us to ensure that. His staff was quite young otherwise and seemed overwhelmed by all the customers. There's a fair amount of seating. The place was clean. We'd highly recommend it. All the food was delicious. So my friend and I went here for lunch on a weekday, was not busy whatsoever but was extremely disappointed in our experience. Don't get me wrong, the food was pretty good and the portions are great for the price you pay. However, the staff treated us as if we were an inconvenience to them. It took them 15 minutes to even greet us and get us some water! We kept trying to get the attention of the waiters/waitresses and we kept getting ignored. We were about to leave since no one was attending to us before a waitress asked if we had been helped. We placed our order and the waitress did not write any of our orders down. I do not mind when the staff does not write my order down, if they can memorize it correctly. I'd rather the waiter/waitress write down my order so that I am not being asked what I ordered every 5 minutes. Also, my order came out wrong to which I had to get up and find a a staff member since no one was out on the main dining floor. Overall, not impressed and do not see myself going back. read more

Outstanding! Gaffney finally has a real California-Style Mexican restaurant. Others will say differently, but I believe that outside of Mexico, California has the best Mexican food around. So... Coming from Cali, and having been in many areas of Mexico, I'd say that Cantanita Grill is the closest to the real deal Cali Mexican food we have in Gaffney. We've been to the restaurant a couple of times now...the food has been a real pleasure, as has the service. The food is tasty, the flavors aren't all jumbled together and covered with cheese glop like most of the "other Mexican" restaurants in the area. I had 3 taqueria Mexico City style tacos made with soft doubled corn tortillas, 1 each of asada (steak marinated in a rich delectable red sauce with fresh pico de gallo & chopped cilantro ), pescada (grilled fish, lightly seasoned, salted and peppered and with fresh pico de gallo and cilantro) and grilled polo (chicken, with a an almost fajitas style sauce and again fresh pico de gallo and cilantro). My wife had double tortillas(tostadas) heaped with chicken, grated cheese,lettuce, & pico de gallo and cilantro. Sided with frijoles and Spanish rice which was prepared to perfection...soft, fluffy and perfectly seasoned, not slightly bitter as is often the case. She also had a really well made Margarita...no skimping on the Tequila there! I ordered the steak and chicken combo fajitas to go. They were pretty good, but the order only came with 3 flour tortillas, which is really my only complaint. Most places normally give you four or more. I read on here a couple of people saying that the service was bad. I was only inside for a minute, to order and pay, after which I asked if I could wait in my car for my order. Once it was ready, the girl who took my order brought it out to me. The service seemed decent enough to me, but like I said, I was only inside for a minute while I ordered and paid for my food, so I can't give a great assessment. We were passing through on our way out of town, looking for a place to stop and eat when we saw the sign for California Style Mexican food. Being a family from California, we had to give it a try. The atmosphere was traditional, with brightly colored decor and authentic music. The server was funny, engaging and all wore masks appropriately for COVID. We enjoyed the warm chips and the complimentary bean dip was great! We all enjoyed trying different salsas from the salsa bar, and one of the staff assisted my daughter in picking some out. The owner stopped by and engaged us in conversation...it was a pleasure meeting her! We saw some fresh guacamole being made for another table and ordered that as well, it was a large portion (we were a table of five and took some to go) and it was very good! I had the taquitos, loved having flavors from California with the seasoned shredded beef! My daughter is very picky and loved the kids chicken fingers and fries, homemade chicken. My other daughter, her birthday, got the cheese quesadilla which was made with Monterey Jack cheese, just like home! She ate every bite. My husband and son split the generously sized chimichanga with shredded beef. We live about 90 minutes away, but we plan to come back and visit from time to time...to enjoy a taste of home! read more
