There was a kids menu that was standard and I'm sure would accommodate most kids; but, I would say Isla's menu is sophisticated and can be appreciated by a more mature audience. Our 13 year old ordered the shrimp and grits and won the best entree of the night. It's a nice twist using a grit cake as opposed to traditional shrimp and grits but the flavor of the tomato and chorizo gravy along with the texture of the crispy grit cake was an interesting and nice change from the norm. I will definitely go back and try additional entrees. Overall, all the dishes were well put together, well seasoned and paired with a nice wine list that had variety for all tastes. I signed up for Applebee's rewards/promotion program because it advertised a free appetizer. When we went to use the offer, the manager, Tyler, would only apply it to the cheapest item on the table -- a $4 soup my dad ordered -- instead of the actual appetizer I purchased, which was around $12. That feels misleading and frustrating. The whole reason I signed up for the rewards program was because it offered a free appetizer, not a discount on whatever the restaurant decides is cheapest. When I brought it up, Tyler refused to correct it. I'm also a military veteran, and while I don't expect special treatment, I do expect a business to honor the promotion they advertise and treat loyal customers fairly. We were weekly customers, and this left a really bad impression. Instead of honoring the advertised reward in a reasonable way, it felt like they were trying to avoid giving the actual benefit. Very disappointing experience, especially from a place we used to visit regularly. The little things matter.
