I refuse to post under Hanapepe Friday Night's, due to the poor naming conventions. Yelp! Let's get one listing for this amazing Friday Night Artwalk in Hanapepe. Please? I have an Aunty who used to live in Hanapepe so it's already close to my heart. Then throw in amazing local businesses and vendors and well I'm spending hundreds of dollars to fly over from O'ahu so I don't miss the events. Most recently I flew over to say goodbye to MachineMachine, the owner Shannon was set up in a building that was repurposed from an automotive shop to a retail space. Sadly she moved to a warehouse in Lawai. So she's no longer participating in the Hanapepe Art Walk. I've read that there's a lady who sets up a Haku (head lei) table and accepts donations only. Sadly I've never been there when she's there. I noticed some of the storefronts like Little Fish were closed on this trip. I was told that other towns like Kilauea are also doing Friday events and some vendors don't want to travel to the other side of the island anymore. But I noticed an entire new retail space, that's exciting! Regardless, there's plenty to eat! Persian food, Puerto Rican, Hawaiian BBQ, Thai, and the pie stand is to die for. Make sure you come hungry! Behind the spice store there's an old bridge, make sure you check it out. Also there's an interesting space next to the post office the sign marks the pathway "Storybook", two chairs were set up on a stage. But there was no one in sight. The Friday Artwalk is definitely an adventure that I recommend to tourists and locals alike! read more

Most of the food is from food trucks and there an no restrooms. The brick and mortar shops can't and won't handle the crowds. The streets are too crowded, parking is difficult and it is anything but an Artwalk. It was once a well-attended affair for enjoying the shops. Now it has deteriorated into row after row of food trucks with no seating and no restrooms. This is a disaster waiting to happen read more

I insisted on adding this to our agenda when someone recommended it to us as one of their favorite things to see and during one of our first dinners on island early in our vacation. I'm so glad I did. It might not be Art Basel or a major city's food truck festival, in terms of size/choice/~coolness~, but I found plenty of culture and snacks that made me happy. Definitely seems to bring out this little town's best and to attract all kinds of people (mostly tourists of all ages, and local kids) without feeling too crowded or overwhelming. After parking on the side of the road and walking down maybe a 3/10ths of a mile to the main street with shops and tents, my fiance and I took the first of a few laps to get a sense of what was around. Another reviewer helpfully pointed out that the bathroom situation is somewhat limited, so we did choose our first stop carefully. We didn't see the pies we'd heard good things about (and when we visited the shop, they said they no longer participate) and didn't want to go on the swinging bridge in the dark (we're weenies) but 0 complaints other than that. We visited what seemed like most of the stores and galleries and a few of the trucks to put together an interesting meal and set of treasures: some tasty lumpia, a slice of delicious mushroom pizza, a $10 vintage Hawaiian shirt, a #1 at Porky's, and a few paperbacks for the plane ride home. I had a feeling this would be a touristy over-priced place. It was, but it was still delightful and I don't know how to explain it. It might be because this is Kauai, where people just seem so much more genuine. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to the artists, and for the first time in my life, felt a very strong desire to buy a painting that I could not afford. (Don't worry - I resisted!) All of the food we tried was really delicious too. Samples were plentiful, and although I would've been happy eating at many of the shops, we ended up settling on a pulled pork stand at the end of the street. We sat at a picnic table, and chatted with some locals who recommended a few places to visit in Kauai. They also demonstrated that you can just walk up to the stand and ask for more white rice without paying extra. (I tried this again at another shop in Kauai and it worked there too!) There was also an AMAZING and talented band playing on the street - Falling Down Romance (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUHApfphD-Y). The woman seems to be able to play at least 4 instruments, including an electric cello! I think they might play at Hanapepe Art Night regularly, and you should definitely check them out. If they were in NYC, I think they'd be really successful. One note though - go to the bathroom before you visit. There's not a whole lot of bathrooms, and I got a dirty look for using a bathroom in one shop without buying anything. read more

Very busy tonight especially with the orchid festival going on. I love this place!! It's packed Friday nights. The art shown here are mostly from the good ol' plantation days. Things I remember growing up as a kid. There's lots of things to do besides looking at art. There's different types of food to choose from, craft vendors, and a book store (which I can't get enough of.) If you love art and food, this place is a must. Every Friday night. It gets packed before 7:00pm. Just don't be surprised if you go during the day time. It's like a ghost town. read more

A quaint art festival on Friday evenings that has a number of food and art booths. Let's not forget some of the art galleries and stores that are open too. Arrive early and head directly to the malasadas booth. These must be eaten warm and it's simply delicious. I then had a bowl of chili from a Soup Booth that had a nice smoky flavor and it was also yummy. I enjoyed the other booths but didn't buy anything. read more

Every Friday night from 5 till 9 Kauai's sleepy little town dubbed "the biggest little town" of Hanapepe comes alive with music, food vendors, crafters and more. A wonderful way for kama'aina and malihini alike to spend a wonderful night on Kauai. They have a great selection of street vendors with foods from cuban to local favorites along with desserts to die for. They also have a lunch wagon with a nice variety of foods. Try out their fried ice cream if you ever stop by. It is definitely a great -lace to bring the family with live entertainment going on at different locations on the short stretch of the road. Arts and crafts are second to none here. You definitely will not get disappointed. read more

Fun something little to do. Lots of art shops around.. Not a ton of food but enough! The girl who makes the mac n cheese and the chili was so dang good! Her sign just says soups on it.. Hanapepe's Art walk is great:) Yummy food everywhere, fun art to see, good vibes! The town comes to life:) so awesome they do this every Friday! We went to salt ponds late afternoon and then headed over, fun activity to do with a toddler. And if you get there early you can get a good parking spot:) read more

I am not sure why there are only two reviews for the Friday art walk because it's a pretty rad event. Hanapepe's motto is its Kauai's biggest little town and is also the model for Disney's Lilo & Stitch. All of all the shops along Hanapepe road including art galleries, bookstore, spice shops stay open until 9pm. There are also food trucks and music along the way. We enjoyed some homemade pizza, some tacos from Rafaels and of course a piece of pie from the Right Slice. There is a good amount of food some scout it all out before you make your decision. It will take an hour or two to walk down and back to check out all the galleries. There are some really cool Koa wood tables and chairs in the Koa Wood Gallery. Parking wasn't too tough for us at we got there at the time of open at 6 but you may have to walk a ways of you show up later. read more

We had a great time at the art walk. It's a nice scene and great way to spend an evening. One of the few opportunities for night life in Kauai. The art was great and the vendors very friendly and pleasant. This is also a good time to stop by machine machine to check out some amazing hand sewn clothing. The best reason to attend: the food vendors. Amazing tacos, pies, pizza, and the infamous Kalua Pig Hot Dogs. That's either a beef hot dog or homemade pork and pineapple sausage topped with grilled onions, pineapple relish and, of course, Kalua pork. Simply Amazing. read more
