This is a mom and pop shop style restaurant. We traveled over 45 minutes from the other side of the island to eat here after a Google search and liked what we read on the menu. Everything we got was delicious! Potato Mac salad, Simian, baked crab dip with chips, plantation pineapple tea, cheeseburger w/cheddar cheese and onion rings. We enjoyed it all, but absolutely loved the crab dip and chips. The chips were perfect! The service was so awesome that we made sure to tip extra and voice how great she was. It's not exactly the easiest place to find as it is a bit back from the road, but the MCS Grill sign is evident. There's good parking next to it. This is a comfortable, relaxed typical Hawaiian type place with nice indoor seating. It appears to be family owned and operated, I detected a number of locals both eating here and getting take-out. The menu is varied and interesting. I decided to get the MCS Combo entree that comes with a choice of fried chicken chunks, I got the Hawaiian Chili Peppa, choice of rice, I got brown,.plus a small salad and something called Saimin. The pace is a bit slow, but that's OK. I did say relaxed. The meal was actually very good, tasty. The chicken was made just right and tender. The rice and salad were both good. The Saimin, noodles, were delicious. Portions are good and I had it with their specialty iced tea. It's been awhile since our family had MCS grill. Went on a Friday night & we arrived just before the dinner rush. We were welcomed by friendly staff. We ordered the following: - Scampi(no protein) - Prime Rib - MCS Combo Each dish received approval from us. All were delicious. My kids are picky when it comes to their pasta dishes & they're not afraid to let it be known if it's not good. But MCS' scampi won them over they requested to eat at this place the next day! My Fiancé got the Prime Rib, it was cooked to his requested temperature perfectly & seasoned well. I got the MCS combo with the Chilli pepper chicken. Fried saimin was delicious the noodles had the right amount of chew & good amount of mix ins(green onion,bacon, kamaboko, etc). The Chilli pepper chicken is delicious as I remember it from years ago. It's not too spicy & it has the right amount of sweetness to balance out. The chicken was hard or dry. Some place I've been to fry the heck out of the chicken causing it to be so hard & dry. You won't experience it here. Their chicken is fried perfect. You can choose your sides. I got green salad & Mac salad. Both were great, the dressing on the green salad was refreshing. They had a good selection of desserts, we decided to get the Lava cake which one on my kids said was better than Eating House 1849. Haha. Would I come here again? Nice local food restaurant and it is also family owned. The server was polite and friendly, great personality, and attentive. I had Saimin and Caesar salad both of which hit the spot. The saimin soup broth was so good I had to finish it all. The shrimp based pork both was very good. The Caesar salad dressing was homemade and had a great taste. The Chiffon Cream Cheese Square was an added surprise so light and delicious! So glad it was recommended to us. One of our favorite places we ate at! Vegetarians, this is where you find real vegetarian food! I was so excited and ordered the trio plus the vegetation Loco moco. I highly suggest the trio appetizer!! We were both so glad we tried them and thought it was a great way to serve vegetarian appetizers. The vegetarian Loco moco is made with a handmade veggie patty which also excited me. The vegetarian gravy is white which sort of weirded me out. Great lunch option after Salt Pond Beach! My husband and I shared the MCS combo and Kauai Shrimp Scampi. The scampi was so flavorful, our daughter even dug into it instead of eating her keiki meal. The kauai shrimp was a little overcooked and chewy, that was the one negative. The MCS combo, I can see why it is their signature dish, it comes with teriyaki fried chicken and fried saimin, both super tasty and flavorful. Burgers seem to be hand made based on the shape of the patty and my picky son seemed to like it for his keiki meal. read more

We were here twice while on the island, I have to say this is a must stop if you are passing through Hanapepe. It is located in the same center as the Kauai Kookie factory (We visited there as well, review soon!). It doesn't look like much from the outside and once you sit inside, it doesn't look like the dishes fit the ambiance. Splashes of red here, different color there, I thought this was a Jamaican restaurant at first. There are lots of windows thru-out on the inside but mask mandate are still in effect to enter the premise. Bathroom is pretty clean here. We ordered a few items ranging from the scampi pasta (you can have it with the head on or the head off which I thought was a nice touch) , the MCS combo, the kid's burger, and the ribs that came with a side of salad. All tasty, the sauce on the pasta is ridiculously good. The MCS combo with the chili peppa chicken is delish, not too spicy at all. The kid's burger comes with a small side of fruit and veggies. Super cute. The ribs tho, I couldn't say it was perfect. It was dry on the inside as if these ribs were frozen and reheated. But taste wise, it was good and we had no problem finishing. So yes, there is an identity crisis here with the interior and the food, but I am happy to report that the food was one of the best we've had while here. Of course, we totally forgot to mention this discount we saw on TV (That I am not going to mention here ) and we left because we were in a rush to get back to Lihue. That, and a visit to get some cookies next door. Hopefully we will be back again soon and I can remember the discount. Parking is plenty. read more

MCS Grill is one of those hidden gems that becomes a pleasant surprise once you eat there! From the appetizers to the loco moco I ordered to the desserts we had (including three slices of the lilikoi chiffon cake), it was delicious from start to finish. I've passed by this place for years and haven't tried it, finally decided to check um out. We got the steak/ shrimp plate and the kauai shrimp pasta, soo yummy! The pasta was full of flavor and the steak was perfectly cooked. I loved that they had kauai shrimp, not many restaurants have it. I do wish they pan fried the shrimp instead of grill because they get more dried out on the grill (i.e. the shrimp head had no juice). But I do like that they peel it for you. Great, great, great! They had me with the amazing Saimin, and Coconut Shrimp apps, but the combo of their Asian pork ribs combined with delectable heads- on grilled shrimp was way over the top! My wife's grilled Mahi Mahi was a very generous portion and was cooked perfectly and finished with lemon caper sauce, my daughter's Asian Salad with Mahi Mahi came with bouncy fresh greens, generous slab of grilled Mahi. Another grill in town botched our reservations for a birthday table of eight. When I called the MCS Grill, the receptionist helped me by being honest and specific: a party of eight was finished with dessert and ready to complete payment. She reserved the table for us, and it was nearly ready when we arrived. So helpful! For appetizers, we ordered pork nachos and coconut shrimp. Beverages were served promptly. In our party of eight, we had several offers of pork rib combos, one rib plate, fish and chips, and a salad plate. The sweet BBQ sauce got many compliments. I especially enjoyed the MCS version of potato macaroni salad. We had dessert plans elsewhere, but the staff insisted on bringing birthday cupcakes and a slice of lemon cake to share. We had a meeting nearby and due to the great reviews decided to give MCS a try. It's open, airy, and inviting. I tried the lentil loaf which comes with either a veggie gravy or spicy aioli. I couldn't figure how the aioli would go with it but our waitress said people really liked it so I asked for both on the side. I was so glad I did a the aioli was perfect for the loaf! I preferred it over the gravy by a lot. Speaking of lot there was a lot of food and I ended up taking some back to my hotel, where my traveling partner decided to eat it as a snack. She then demanded we go back the next day, so back I went without complaint. This time I tried to veggie burger while she had the veggie loco moco. They both were really 'ono. Because the meals were so good we ventured into dessert and got a guava strawberry chiffon square. It was light and we could taste the guava. Yum. If we lived on Kauai we'd be here all the time. Surprisingly good for an unassuming restaurant. The vegetarian trio was an odd tasting assortment so I was unsure how the rest of the meal would go. However, my vegan friend's vegetarian lentil loaf with rice and salad was quite tasty and my oriental salad with grilled mahi-mahi was simply prepared and fresh tasting. Had a long afternoon sail to Napali March 2023 so was hungry and searching for a nearby restaurant. I had a hankering for onion rings and, boy, does MCS Grill deliver! The onion rings were huge, hot, and yummy. I ordered a salad and it wasn't quite what I was hoping for--nothing wrong with it, just not the romaine lettuce I prefer, and the individual salad components were too big to eat without additional cutting prep on my part. I was there about a half hour before they closed and I felt a bit rushed--not that the staff were anything but welcoming and gracious, but I didn't want to be "that" person that holds up people from getting off from their shift! I noticed a steady stream of take-out customers that appeared to be locals so that is a good sign! I didn't want to take my food to go because I was about a 40 minute drive from the condo where I was staying. I will look forward to eating at MCS Grill again when I visit in March 2024. read more

Attempted trying to grab some legit Hawaiian bites after a beach day on the south side. Unfortunately, (our friend recommended) Bobbies was closed! Fortunately, MCS Grill was open. And it was poppin. You know it's a good spot when they're filled up on a Monday night! All the locals filled up the restaurant. Our group tried an array of local Kauai/Hawaiian entrees. Also, fortunately for me, there was a vegetarian loco moco option on the menu. Mm mmm. That egg sitch. Amazing. That gravy and patty. Yum! For apps, we got furikake garlic fries and coconut breaded shrimp to share. Both delish. I'm into all of it. As for a drink, no alcoholic options (just FYI).
