A cute little taco stand advertising "authentic Mexican food" located just off the main highway in Hanapepe (although I think there are other locations elsewhere on the island). On a Monday at 11:45 we were the only customers and each ordered two tacos, fish and carnitas. You order at the window and they call you when the food is ready. There are a handful of picnic tables scattered around the taco shack or get the food to go. The fish taco was good, but the pork with big chunks of tender pork was fantastic-highly recommended. We visited Paco's Tacos by the golf course. My boyfriend really enjoyed his tacos, but I was in the mood for shrimp. I asked for a recommendation and ended up ordering the shrimp in garlic. The shrimp itself was fresh and tasty, but unfortunately the garlic was bad -- it completely ruined the dish for me. As a foodie, I can tell when an ingredient has gone off, and this definitely was. Stopped in after a long day hiking and a recommendation from a friend. The taco spot is located on the side of the road with several picnic tables for outdoor seating. I ordered the carne asada taco salad and my friend ordered chips and a bean and cheese burrito. The salad was fresh I only wished there was more meat. The salad was $17.50 and I left still feeling hungry. The bean and cheese burrito was simple and the chips and salsa would've have been better if they served the salsa on the side. The scoop of salsa instantly made a $6 plate of chips soggy. The food felt a little overpriced but it did the trick after a long day out. read more

We had the fish and shrimp tacos with chips and salsa. The tacos were dressed in pico and a cabbage onion mix. For the fish taco, the seasoning was light. It was grilled white fish and a little over cooked. The shrimp tacos were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The chips tasted fresh and were super crunchy. The pico was basic but did the trick. It was a pleasant stop while driving back to Lihue so I can't complain. The guys were nice and friendly. I'd stop by again if in the area. read more

We loved it! You have to know you are getting fast casual, take out, food. You'll be sitting outside or bringing it with you. If it's sunny there are a few tables under shade. We got the special: al pastor fries. The fries were extra crispy, which was necessary to stay crisp with the sour cream, guacamole and hot sauce! While the special was great, I would give it all up to eat more of the fish tacos. The tacos were on corn tortillas and stuffed with fish. Just the right amount of sauce (plus you can add hot sauce). I would eat these all day. It's not classy, fancy, or really even clean, but it's delicious. read more

If you order the same thing from the Hanapepe shop as from the one at Kukuiolono you will find a dramatic difference in the taste and quality. Kukuiolono has magnificent views. Not so Hanapepe. What a pleasant surprise for some New Mexican food! Located next door to our condo, our group flocked to the street-side seating and our San Antonio raised hospitality server pleasantly greeted us and made us feel very welcomed. The cantina was quaint and appropriately decorated and made me feel like I was in the Fort. Next up, happy hour margaritas that were delicious along with chips and salsa. I had the carne asdada enchiladas with red sauce while my better half had the taco salad. Both were delicious and devoured quickly. Man was this place so satisfying!!! On our first day in Kauai our friend said this place had some good tacos! I believe it's the same one on Oahu (don't quote me) but damn this place sure hit the spot. Service/Environment- it's a very casual place, almost like a food truck. You order at the front and there are outside tables only. Took us about 10 minutes to get our food but everything came out fresh! Food- delicious! I had the carne asada taco plate, my BF had the carne asada quesadillas and our friend had the chimichanga plate. Everything was so good! I surprisingly loved my rice and beans the most. The rice had such good flavor (some places have no flavor). They were also very generous with the portions! Would def recommend. Worth the $$$- yes! Excellent tacos, very tasty. We got the fish tacos and the shrimps tacos. The fish taco was very hardy, seasoned nicely. The shrimp taco was really tasty as well, but it would have been nice if it came with maybe one or two more shrimps. The salsas were nice and spicy, loved them! The guava and lilikoi drinks were a really nice addition as well. Not effecting the stars but the only thing that I would say is DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF THE ICE CREAM GUYS. The best carnitas tacos anywhere. We ate here four out of every five days on Kauai. I wish they had a restaurant in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island, where we live. Where I live, there are about 8 local taquerias that I frequent. On vacation, we stopped in here, and I got a seafood burrito (fish and shrimp), and a few carnitas tacos. The burrito was great, but the carnitas tacos were possibly the best I've ever had. If I lived near this place I'd probably go broke.
