Dr. Friedman is truly brilliant. His expertise and accuracy with testing are unparalleled, especially when it comes to rare diseases like Cushing's. I live locally, and during an adrenal crisis, the hospital team wouldn't listen when I urgently needed Hydrocortisone. I called the Cushing's advocates, and thanks to him, I received the life-saving medication right away. I don't believe I'd be here if it weren't for him. He is very well known in the endocrinology field and has worked with many other hospitals in the past. Whenever I speak with someone who has Cushing's disease, I always recommend Dr. Friedman. He's incredibly well-known in the Cushing's community and is highly skilled in diagnosing and teaching patients how to test properly. Many people struggle with misdiagnosis or a lack of diagnosis because some endocrinologists aren't familiar with testing for this rare condition. Dr. Friedman not only understands it but also educates other doctors, which is invaluable. He is thorough, dedicated, and even has a great sense of humor once you get to know him. Although he doesn't work with insurance directly, he provides a superbill, which allows patients to submit claims for coverage. Here is what is great about that. I have found that many times insurance dictates the care a doctor can prescribe or test for. Hence, it is the insurance who are determining your care. Insurance should never have that power and that is a big reason people cannot access care. Dr F takes care of what he believes is necessary to care for you individually. I have been a patient of Dr. Friedman's for more than 20 years and always had the utmost respect for him as he is truly brilliant. Unfortunately, following my most recent appointment with Dr. Friedman and, subsequently, the way Edmil has handled my medically necessary prescription, I no longer have faith in this office. Dr. Friedman does not accept insurance. As a senior, I pay $165 for a 10-minute telephone appointment to have my laboratory results reviewed and receive new prescriptions. Clinical notes containing Dr. Friedman's plan of treatment are emailed to me after the appointment. Because my thyroid levels fluctuate considerably, I must have bloodwork every two to three months. My general practitioner runs my lab tests throughout the year as I can only afford Doctor Friedman's expertise twice a year at most . I have not seen him in person for many years and he only monitors my thyroid. This time, our phone appointment was very different and rushed. When I mentioned that I had gained weight, he suddenly asked whether I wanted to take a GLP-1 medication. I was incredulous that he would suggest this without discussing my extensive medical history, autoimmune conditions, recent bloodwork, and numerous other health issues. It made me feel as though he had simply joined the GLP-1 bandwagon, which I found concerning. He also told me that I should now take my thyroid medication with food, even though he had always instructed me to take it hours before eating, as had every other doctor who treated me. Along with my clinical notes, he sent me a two-page document titled "A New Approach to Thyroid Hormone Timing and Management: Should You Take Your Thyroid Hormones with Food?" The study described in the document involved patients taking a higher dosage to compensate for reduced absorption with food, followed by REGULAR laboratory testing and dosage adjustments. The document also discussed AI modeling that it acknowledged still needed to be replicated in actual pharmacokinetic studies. The evidence did not appear conclusive to me, and I am not willing to be part of an experiment, particularly without appropriate monitoring. Despite telling me to make this major change, he then said, "Make an appointment in three months. You don't even have to do your labs." What would be the purpose of another appointment without current bloodwork, especially when my thyroid levels fluctuate dramatically and I do not feel well? The situation became even more disturbing when I contacted the Pharmacy and learned that my prescription had been submitted with the incorrect dosage. I saw Dr. Friedman in July, and it is now September. I am still waiting for my medication because Edmil has repeatedly failed to submit the correct dosage. Despite my calls and emails clearly explaining the error, he continued to state the dosage incorrectly instead of reviewing my July clinical notes or confirming the proper instructions with Dr. Friedman. This is not a minor administrative mistake. An incorrect dosage and a two-month delay in obtaining medically necessary medication can have serious health consequences. Had I not still had some medication remaining, I would have been left without treatment and unable to function because of Edmil's repeated failure to process the prescription accurately. After more than 20 years as a patient, I never imagined that this relationship would end this way. Between the medical conversation and Edmil's repeated failure to process my prescription correctly, this entire experience has felt like an episode of The Twilight Zone. Update As of September 6, this still has not been resolved. I continue to receive emails from his office asking me for the same information I have already provided repeatedly--sometimes in the very email thread they are responding to. I am also being asked questions about my treatment that his staff should be asking him or confirming by reviewing my clinical notes. It is as though no one is actually reading my messages, communicating with the dr, or taking responsibility for resolving this. The continued confusion, delay, and complete lack of urgency surrounding my inability to receive my medication due to Dr. Friedman's incompetent office staff is unconscionable, not to mention potentially life-threatening. Update:Sept 7 : Lynn called and emailed several times yesterday and today. She is doing everything she can to get my prescription ordered correctly. I truly thank you Lynne ! read more

This office is impossible to get ahold of. They forgot to submit refills when I had my last apt at the end of January. He tells to get another apt in 4 months which will be end of May. I go to get my months supply as I usually do to find out there are no refills and the prescription is expired. Been trying to contact them from phone, email, fax for days. I've been under Dr. Friedman's care for years now. I am now forced to stop one of my thyroid medications cold turkey because of this offices negligence and lack of caring about their patients. I am documenting every attempt at communication and will be tracking any withdrawal symptoms from this abrupt medication as I have already been dealing with emotional distress trying to deal with this. read more

Was almost an hour past the appointment time which made it really late without any effort to say I'm running late. Ordered the same labs that were already in the information provided. Offered no additional "expertise" beyond what the most basic Google search had already provided. I spent multiple emails and had to filter through their useless self promotion to even pay the balance. due. Had to "prove" they'd been paid because their billing and accounting system is so bad you have no way to consolidate who paid what to whom for what. Worst medical experience ever. This guy and everyone associated with his office is a total quack. Where do I begin, I had an appointment on Feb 27th at 6:30 pm. I walk into the office on time. I had to do a double take because the office looks like absolute trash - some 1970s time warp. They take another patient first. Dr. Friedman is confused; her appointment was at 8:30 pm. The woman came from out of town and got her time zone mixed up. The very kind woman said she'd come back later as her hotel was literally across the street because I was in the waiting room for MY 6:30 appointment. The "Dr." insisted that she stay and have her appointment. She was insisting she come back. I hear the "Dr" whispering, and then she decides to stay. I figure, what the hell? How long could her appointment take? Apparently HOURS. Meanwhile, I'm being "entertained" by some nut job doctor's assistant. Who is running his mouth NONSTOP, telling ridiculous stories, including one about how he's not racist because he has a picture of a white deer? It's a long story, not worth re-telling, but just to add to the context of how ridiculous this experience was for me. The patient who came in after me was pissed too. She'd been waiting on the street, calling and emailing, trying to get in - the door was broken. Finally, around 8:30, the doctor sees me - for 10 MINUTES! He does give me a credit for the next visit (a visit I have no interest in attending.) I have never seen a more dismissive, rude, and insulting "Dr" in my life. His website talks about how he asks all the right questions to figure out what's going on with your hormones. He asked me nothing. I was fuming. Next, the clown assistant takes a bunch of blood for testing. I am STILL waiting for my results on April 5th. My friend who went to this quack got her results in about a week. I've sent emails that have been ignored. I came home from the appointment in tears. The treatment I experienced was insane and I continue to be treated like crap as I can't get a reply from a freaking doctors office. Do not waste your time and money on this guy. Somehow, he's convinced people he's some miracle doctor. I call bullshit. I wish I could get my $400 dollars back, but I'll just have to settle for saving someone from his nonsense. read more

He has gotten me so far and I am now 12 days post op from pituitary acth Cushings disease, I traveled to MD Anderson to his neurosurgeon he recommended & got both pituitary tumors removed. He kept fighting and testing because he knew, if you need a Dr to listen and a Dr that knows what they are doing I would 100% recommended Dr Friedman. He saved my life, as a 24 year old I can't even express how grateful I am to him. Dr Friedman told me I didnt have a pituitary issue. A neurosurgeon later found a pituitary tumor, and then ordered a pituitary panel that showed the issue. I had to pay out of pocket to see hom because he didnt take insurance. He either never ordered a pituitary panel or dismissed the results. Either way, he failed to find the problem. He wasnt exceptional or any different than any other endocrinologist (and less professional). I think he is a good self-promoter. Im only here because I get constant spam emails from him, which reminded me of all the money I wasted on my visit with him. Pituitary adenomas do not typically show up on regular MRIs. Any endocrinologist who isnt ordering a full pituitary panel is doing their patients a major disservice. More often than not, they brush off abnormal results, especially if you are a woman. read more

I'm incredibly impressed with Dr. Friedman. I had an anomaly on my pituitary MRI and he reviewed all of my previous labs and gave his opinion. He was extremely knowledgeable and you can tell he has confidence as well as knows each and every nuance that comes with hormonal problems. He picked up a few things on my labs that my previous endocrinologist missed. The ability to upload previous pituitary MRI studies for his own dictation is a huge asset as well. After searching, long and hard for an endocrinologist, I happened upon Dr. Friedman on Google. I looked at the reviews and I thought that he would be an amazing clinician, and would be able to help me with my hormonal issues. What I got instead was a zoom call that was disorganized, rushed and vague. Afterwards I waited for an organized review of what we had discussed rapidly on the zoom call because it had gone so quickly that I was not able to write anything down. Again what I got instead was a disorganized email containing already prepared PDFs that are apparently sent to all of their patients. I went ahead and did my labs and now I've waited over two weeks to get Dr. Friedman's interpretation of them and what I should do going forward. I've emailed multiple times with no response whatsoever. I would definitely not recommend this doctors to anybody. read more

Dr F gave me my life back. I was dismissed by endocrinologists for 30 years. Reluctantly doing my own research I realized most really didnt know how to treat my rare endocrine disorders and didnt have the time to find out how. Of course they acted like they knew. Absolutely the BEST endocrinologist hands down! It took 8 years before I found Dr. Friedman and within the first hour of our in-person consult he had determined my thyroid meds were not correct and that he suspected I had growth hormone deficiency. We did the 5-hour test and sure enough, it was confirmed. I had seen multiple doctors and endocrinologists over those long 8 years, was fired by three, and in one single hour Dr. Friedman figured it all out. It was so easy and he was so confident that it almost felt unreal. But now that my thyroid meds are right and I'm taking nightly growth hormone shots, I'm feeling better than I have in a long time. I am so very happy I decided to finally take the leap and fly out to see Dr. Friedman. After three years of feeling unwell I was convinced by providers that I had to adjust to a "new normal". Fortunately, I listened to my body and made an appointment to get a second opinion. Dr. Friedman, Dr. Zuckerbraun, and Janet were so wonderful throughout the entire appointment. It was nice to sit back and actually talk about my health instead of feeling like I was having to make a case to be heard. Janet was very easy to talk to, warm, and knowledgeable. Lastly, I would strongly encourage anyone with pituitary issues to see Dr. Friedman if they believe that a piece to their treatment puzzle cannot be solved. I have been a patient of Dr. Friedman for over 6 years. He is a fine doctor but his administrative services are the worst I have ever experienced in professional healthcare. My prescription refills are always grossly late. His office is never responsive. It is a debacle and hassle every time with myself and my pharmacy having to make multiple calls and send numerous emails. For someone who charges over $100 for a ten-minute appointment, you would expect administrative competence and concern regarding his patients receiving their medication in a timely manner. I didn't know my hero, my answer to prayer, my knight in shining lab coat had a yelp! How do I express the change he has made in my life without pages upon pages? It's worth the read if you are searching for endo's but in a nutshell if you have been trying to find help because your body is saying something is wrong here and been told "everything is fine go home" you need to see dr.friedman. Diagnosed with a pituitary tumor about 5 yrs ago. Had to figure out it was the likely cause of my sudden onset of mystery symptoms then had to fight to get the mri. My prolactin levels (high can be an indicator of tumor) were only about 15 points high so no doc would even consider a tumor. But there if was. Over the next 4 yrs I got sicker & sicker. I saw "specialist" after "specialist" including the head neurosurgeon of the pituitary department at Saint Johns, his endocrinologist, the head pituitary endocrinologist at UCLA. I was waved off by everyone. "Your levels are fine but for prolactin" I got told everything from it's all in my head to and I QUOTE "are you just seeking compliments?" When discussing my worry of gaining weight uncontrollably. (I HAVE to mention all of this) I devoted myself to once again figuring things out myself and spend countless hours researching. All my research said that they were taking my blood at the wrong time, not doing enough testing, ignoring needed tests...etc. All the while getting weaker, unhappier, and fatter. I went from having a personal trainer and the bmi of a pro athlete to being 140 lbs at 5'1 on a strict diet. I found dr. Friedman and it was like lightening. I knew he would be the one to listen. I didn't make an appointment though because I thought I couldn't afford him. I was deflated to say the least. A year later my bro in law gifted me 2 appointments with dr. Friedman for a Christmas gift. In terms of finances, in less than 1/8th of what I had spent with insurance, co-pays etc to get nowhere I am today (less than a year later) about 90% better. I was literally in bed for 3 months all because I needed iron! Every other doctor told me my iron levels were fine. Dr. Friedman said no. Then one day my finger turned black under a 24k gold ring. Quick google showed only lack of iron does that. Within a week I was living again. On top of that I had been told my thyroid was fine for years. Dr. Friedman said no. Put me on thyroid and whoa I have energy again! I have strength again, my hair is growing again, my skin is healing, and my body looks pretty darn good. Not back all the way yet but at least I can wear a non baggy shirt with confidence. Dr. Friedman cares. He will do whatever it takes to find the problem and fix it. Other docs just wanted to prove it wasn't what I thought and send me on my way. Dr. Friedman listens. He is so kind. I rattled on about a study I saw expecting to be shot down like all the other docs. He listened without a look of impatience and when I was done he said "do you happen to remember who conducted that study?" I said no. He said "it was me". God, I just can't put into words how grateful I am to have him as my doc. Ok last thing I swear! Last week I had my thyroid tested again at my primary's office since I was there. She only ordered t4, I had to request t3. She called me with my results of "everything is normal but prolactin" I didn't care what she said. My body told me I'm not there yet. Dr. Friedman called me and told me my t4 still wasn't quite there and fine tuned my thyroid meds. I sent a woman from Florida to him. She was told she didn't have a pit tumor but had all they test results saying cushings. One appointment with dr. Friedman and her Mri showed a totally flattened pituitary gland crushed under the weight of a tumor. Today she is on the way to finally, after 20 yrs of trying, to having it removed. Thank God for the rarity that is a doctor that truly cares about making his patients healthy. If dr. Friedman needed a kidney I would volunteer! Lol read more

About 8 years ago, I went to see Dr. Friedman because of all the amazing things I'd heard about him. He took one look at me and was SURE that I was hyperthyroid and prescribed a radiological appointment to better see my thyroid gland. He scared the ***t out of me. Then, about a week later.. he called to inform me that all my blood tests had come back normal and that we could cancel the radiology appt. He then finished with "I wouldn't be surprised if you became hyperthyroid over the next few years". What a thing to tell a patient! Here I am, 8 years later... with continuously normal blood tests over the years. Doctors are human and have bad days... but when they're wrong, it's important they learn to say so and not leave their patients with a scary prediction for what their future may look like! read more

I am so grateful that Dr. Friedman is my endocrinologist! I wish I could give him more than five stars. I saw four different endocrinologists through my health insurance company before I saw Dr. Friedman - none of them would even order the tests I thought I needed based on what I had read online that might be what my problem was. I was very frustrated. I felt like none of them were familiar enough with what I thought was going on with me to be able to make an educated and experienced determination. The first time I met with Dr. Friedman he confirmed that the tests were necessary and when we got the results back they proved that I needed treatment, which I now receive. What I thought I had was only a part of the puzzle that Dr. Friedman worked out. I am doing significantly better now than before I first saw Dr. Friedman. I truly can't say enough good things about him. What sets Dr Friedman apart is his consultation style practice. Your typical MD will see you for 15 minutes after an endless process with their less than helpful office staff, who never seem to have heard of any modern invention like email. Then he will tell you to sleep more and exercise. By contrast, Dr Friedmans office is on top of them game. They handle appointment confirmations speedily and by email. Dr Friedman himself is quite scientific and very detailed. You'll be pleasantly surprised when you receive a written report a few days later summarizing everything you discussed with him, which is SO HELPFUL. Then, he will answer simple and quick questions by email (eg when do I start taking this, is this normal) so you don't have to fuss coming in again for a 5 minute affair. Also bear in mind that while he practices clinically in this setting, he is primarily a researcher and academic. This is very very rare combination and typically people with this sort of expertise hold titles like Director of Everything at Stanford. The fact that you can see him so easily and affordably is a minor miracle. He knows his stuff and is on point with endocrine and adrenal problems. I had trouble retaining water and suspected aldosterone before I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to find he agreed and had an instant and effective plan to treat it. Like my fellow yelper, I too am singing his praises. I researched for a very long time before I found Dr. Friedman. I also prayed a lot. I am so thankful for finding him. He is truly brilliant. I so appreciate that he speaks to you as though you are intelligent. Unlike most doctors, I do not feel that he is interested in the commercial side of the business, but the science behind it. He deals with tough to diagnose conditions that have profound effects on the lives of his patients. His practice is unlike any other, but people come from all over the world to see him. He only meets with clients once a week. It requires much patience, but most endocrine disorders require much time and testing to establish what the problem is. In a short office visit he was able to predict what my illness was , after 10 years of seeing other doctors who could never figure out what was wrong. Referred here by a complementary medicine practice specializing in chronic illness and neuroendocrine dysfunction. I was patient here for 6 months for HPA dysfunction and possible pituitary disorder. Our work was not helpful in terms of treatment, diagnoses, or future directions, although it did provide rule outs. But my previous endocrinologist had already ruled these out, and not even providing a referral after stating he did not know what was driving the dysfunction and symptoms. $1000 lost for about an hour total of actual conversation with the doctor. This practice may be helpful if you have Addisons, Cushing's or GHD, but for more complex and murky presentations the treatment will not vary from traditional limits of Endocrinlogy, and possibly be a significant loss of financial resources as he does not accept insurance. I do not recommend to anyone except those considering above treated conditions. Research shows patient outcomes are strongly correlated to the doctors ability to listen. I saw Dr. Friedman back in 2007 was young and very very sick it was the best decision I made. Best endocrinologist I have ever seen. He listens and pays attention to what you have to say and lets you be involved in your own medical care decisions. Some doctors assume it can't be what you think it might be because they think it has to be something they know. Or think its weird when people start looking online because there Dr. just throw pills at them as solutions. Not this Dr. He wants to find the problem not just treat the symptoms. He knows what questions to ask, and figure out what the problem is. Our health care system is so messed up I actually Don't mind paying to get what I want. Which is my health back. Its not overpriced at all. There has been much money wasted on other Drs and insurance and no problems ever get solved. Just because its set up differently and is not main stream does not make it wrong or bad. I have been too his office twice in the past 8 years and its clean. Its not uber fancy but who cares...the care is great, and Dr. Z the assistant will make you laugh or talk about skiing even if you have had the worst day or are in a really bad mood. Dr. Friedman saved my life! After being at mayo clinic twice and many doctors in New York City where I live not being able to help me, I was desperate for answers and Dr. Friedman helped me so much. Yes, the way they operate their business is not typical; short staff, cash only; emails to communicate...but do not let that discourage you from going. It was worth the trip and every penny I spent to see him. Dr. Friedman gave me a lot of time during his initial consult and made me feel comfortable with the testing he did. Like many others have said, Doctor Friedman hands down saved my life. I am eternally grateful for all that he did for me. I noticed a couple reviews expressing frustration that after a couple of appointments they weren't given an immediate diagnosis and were told to keep testing. Please be aware that my situation was a long process that took over two years. It was not instant. If your case is not straightforward, Dr. Friedman is not just going to give you a diagnosis. That wouldn't be responsible nor in your best interest. As someone who suffered for 20 years with my disease, I know how frustrating it can be and to want an answer immediately. Bc my case was so rare and complicated, it took two years of testing, me continuing to make and show up for my appointments and doing my own research, which Dr. Friedman encourages, and asking lots of questions. It turned out I had a very, very rare case of what we believe to be a pituitary version of GIP (food induced) Cushing's as well as a partial case of Diabetes Insipidus that was further complicating matters-- and for which many of the symptoms directly contrasted those of Cushing's. Doctor Friedman was willing to listen to me. Sometimes all he could recommend was that I continue testing, and that was okay. Most doctors will just stop seeing you at that point. I love this brilliant, unique research doctor! He works with you to help yourself! He is possibly one of the only doctors knowledgeable about Pseudo Cushings, PCOS (of course I happen to have both of those!!!), and a myriad of other hormonal conditions that get overlooked in the medical community! I also love his integrative approach! Unlike most conventional doctors, he doesn't throw medicine at you that act as band aids, but instead works on healing the root of the problem at hand. I aspire to be a medical professional just like him one day! I do, however, wish he was less expensive and/or covered by insurance. That would make him even better :)! So I waited a while before writing this review as I wanted to make sure it wasn't all talk. All of the other wonderful reviews are true. Dr Friedman is extremely intelligent and understands the entire patient medical status with extreme focus and ease. As a physician, I know how hard it is to remember even during the visit when someone has multiple conditions and how one change can affect another medication or condition. Dr Friedman understood all of my father's multiple medical conditions without taking much notes at all. When he shared my father's written report afterwards, I was shocked at the amount of detail and understanding he had grasped and remembered about my father. His recommendations have all been helpful and followups have been easy. He shares everything with you, including his notes so that you can participate in your care with him and remember the plan of his care at any time. Great doctor! read more
