I am here from Washington State for a college visit with my daughter. Friendly was only two blocks from the Airbnb that I was staying at so it was close. One evening I had the Reuben and another the turkey club. Both of the sandwiches were warm, fresh and delicious. I chose broccoli as my side each time and it was nice to have a healthy option. I repeatedly call to ask a question and being hung up. When I call back, she does not answer the telephone. When I ask for the owner to order items, she says no, and hangs up. What kind of business are you running? Both of your competitors, Marvel in Parkland, and Emish in Fife employ English speaking staff, and go out of their way to accommodate customers. Both have tremendous customer service. We have done business with Friendly Foods for years, however, go out of the way to do business in the future. I really wish I was leaving a different review. We went to this business to express support for the Eastern Europeans that are taking heat. I've avoided markets like this for years because I don't want to be assumed that I'm a thief and don't belong there. Well, my disability wasn't accommodated. I'm qualified with an ID that proves my status. They lied to me in order to avoid accommodating a simple request, to use their restroom. They claimed they didn't have one, so nobody has to use the restroom their entire shift working there? We left without spending the $300 or so we had planned to. Avoid! We'll look for a different Eastern European business to support. Extremely disappointed! I just don't want to be treated as "lesser than". read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. Literally yelled at a costumer just for going outside without anything in their hands. They are always low stocked on everything. They "fresh" baked goods always make me nauseous and I tried them a couple of times. Always felt sick afterwards. Don't even bother coming here. read more

Friendly Foods is a small Eastern European specialty grocery store just south of the Target shopping complex on Center Street. I am trying to learn more about Russian and Moldovan food, as we have a wonderful community here... and this is part of my delicious education. I pick up good frozen pierogies here and an excellent "Canadian style sour cream" to go with them. They have a nice, small selection of fresh breads & savory pastries. Last time I got a nice medium round of light rye for about $3 - score! Also - a whole case of great looking cake & sweet pastries I've yet to dive into. The deli case is full of cheese, bologna, sausages and - what I love most - crazy slabs of BACON. You can get bacon with the ribs on or even an insane double smoked bacon - none of it seems to be over $7 per pound. Slice it yourself or they can slice it for you. The ladies behind the counter have been very nice & helpful (steering me away from a bad sale cheese, suggesting meats kids like, giving samples). Bonus: look for the fresh marinated treats in the fridge case - a medium container of excellent mushrooms was only $3. Rounded out with a very small produce section, lots of pickles, condiments, great tinned stuff, egg noodles, teas & candy (Can you say "Kinder Bueno"? love it! ) - this store is a serious little treat. (Anyone with good tips on Eastern European restaurants - please let me know. I'm still looking in this area.) read more

The only place I know to get Polish perogies. They do have a very large selection of Russian foods and a bakery on site.

I love this store .....When I know I do not want to think about food for a few days I come here and load up on salty good foods that are easy to grab....I walk the edges of he store starting on the right as you enter ..I grab some new pickle i have not tried then a 2 litre of soda, hit the deli in the back, score if they have home made pickles , grab a hunk of halva , order way too cured meats and fish... then the best part for me ? the bread..I get three loaves because I cuddle first and eat one on the way home warm.. I always ask for the bread out of the oven and have not ever been denied....a big container of my favorite brand of bulgarian feta .move to the "cake by the pound" and grab two half pounds...then .around the edge grab a poppyseed cake and down the side..produce is ok sometimes, to the sour cream and butter (there are tons of frozen pyroshki and some fresh baked ones in the back i am not a fan but everything In need to make some if i want them is there) ...and then he cake by the pound. oh hint? Everyone is lovely ...but there is a woman I asked once for some rye flour and she yelled at me "WHY DO YOU WANT RYE FLOUR LOOK AT THIS BREAD!" so ..no they do not carry rye ..But when I am in bread baking mode I go there they do carry the good wheat bread flour from Canada . read more

I entered this very small store trying to like it. I was surprised by how little product they actually had. What little product that they had didn't look fresh or worth the bother. I left the store without purchasing anything and was left underwhelmed. Do yourself a favor and go visit Marvel Food in Parkland....you can thank me later. read more

I bought two slices of cake. The almond honey one I took a bite of and threw it all away. I suppose if it had been fresh it would have been good. It was very stale. The poppyseed one was better. I don't think the cakes are for me but they were very pretty. I wish I didn't buy those. I got a potato piroshky and it was so good! I will be back for that! There were so many beautiful loaves of bread. Just gorgeous. I'll be back for a loaf of bread for sure. What a nice little market. read more

This place is great! I've lived in Ukraine and Russia (twice) and was looking for a very specific item (cirok) - which they had!! They had many other Russian favorites as well. Their deli and bread selection looked amazing and very well priced. Produce also has GREAT prices. Heading back just for the produce (and maybe more cirok). Don't let the less smiley customs of Russians dissuade you from coming here for authentic Russian/East European eats. They're just not as smiley as we are here in the states...and that's ok ;) read more

Went to the store, bought some cabbage perogie and almost threw up from them. Felt sick to my stomach, probably got food poisoned. Got a headache and felt really nauseous. Will never be returning. And do not recommend buying their sauerkraut perogies. read more

The meats and breads are very fresh. The bake their own bread, which is a rarity now a days. There's nothing fancy about this place, it's just a great old school market to purchase all the eastern European type foods that you can't get any where else. read more

The store should be named Unfriendly Foods - the salespeople never smile, always have a special look as if they suspect you to be a shoplifter. Most of them, including the customers, keep their noses uncovered breathing at all the items at the store. I wonder if they are aware of COVID. The food never tells you the expiration date and I managed to buy boxed candy that were covered with green fungus - yikes! Never ever buy boxed candy there! The Easter cakes were outrageously expensive, but I couldn't resist and bought one - it was stale and dry. The wild birds were happy to eat it. Most of the food is either close to expiration or after the expiration date on those items where you can see it. I would recommend the manager to explain to their employees how dangerous the COVID is and how important it is to use the masks properly. Oh, well, I ask for too much - if the food is stale and beyond the expiration date what can you expect from the manager??? read more

I love this little store!. I have an Armenian friend who has no ready access to specialty foods as we live in Poulsbo WA. We regularly make the journey to Tacoma just to shop here. the baked goods are wonderful - especially the breads. they have cans and jars of such treats as Ikra (eggplant pate) and a prepared vinegarette that is outstanding. staples are here as well - buckwheat, vegetables, meat, fish. I've been in America 10 years now and I was so happy when I found out that there's a store 10 minutes from my house where I can buy European food, it made me miss hope a little less, that is until I went to this store. I am embarrassed for these people. The first time I spent nearly $100 on different stuff from candy to cookies and etc. At the checkout the lady told be because I spent more than $70 I get a bag of free candy. I was excited for this offer. I put my groceries in the trunk and drove home but when I went to grab my groceries from the trunk all of my bags were COVERED in ants. After looking where they came from turns out they were in that FREE bag of candy and ate through the bag and went on to eat my groceries. I haven't gone back there for a while but my son asked for some Russian candy for Halloween and I didn't have time to go to the farther store so I decided to give this one another chance and am I regretting this decision now. I bought 2 bags go mixed candy, 4 different kinds of cookies, condensed milk, a thing of herring (wanted to make salad), frozen bag of pelmeni, and 3 beets. I spend about $76 on all of it and I probably would've gone better if I just flushed that money down the toilet. 1. I didn't look at the expiration date on the condensed milk assuming they would sell up to date groceries. WRONG!!!! The cans expired 08/05/2014 and when I went to open them the milk inside wasn't white it was caramel color. 2. The chocolate candy I got were covered in mold. 3. All of the cookies are stale and you can even smell the mold on them. 4. The herring I got was already bad. I went to take it out of the package to cut it up and it fell apart in my hands. It was nothing but slime. 5. The pelmeni I got were ok but still didn't taste fresh. Plus I paid $10.49 for that bag at this store and when I went to the farther one from my house called Marvels Food and Deli off of 133rd street they had it there for $7.99 and way fresher. I am NEVER going to this store again. The Marvels Food and Deli is a little drive from my house but in the last 3 years shopping there I never had a problem with their food. It's always fresh, the store always looks clean and fully stocked. The people over there are always friendly and ready to help you with anything you need and the food is cheaper too. read more

Service here is terrible! Twice now the older woman at the deli counter has told us that she can't sell us cheese or meat because her slicer was clean and she wouldn't just cut off a portion to sell us. Tonight she did that in spite of us having waited at least 20 minutes while she sliced meats and cheeses for other customers. She doesn't seem to want to serve anyone who isn't from the "old country." I guess the owners have plenty of Eastern European clientele and don't care that she won't serve the Americans who come in. They have good Russian food. Anything from canned tomatoes to different meats and cheeses. I loved different Russian candies.
