Despite the updated facilities and tasty ice cream, this chain is still up to its old tricks that are likely the cause of its demise across the Mid-Atlantic. This one was no exception. We anticipated slow service but we were nostalgic for a late night treat. Those expectations were unfortunately right on the money. Delays started at the front door by getting ignored at the host stand despite the 2-3 other employees that weren't helping the one very overworked server. After the 5-10 minutes wait to be greeted and seated, once we were able to speak with the same busy server between trips to the 3-4 other tables. Orders finally went through and the "ambiance" continued. We were surprised when we received our ice-cream after non wait staff were yelling and cussing at one another in between making desserts and rushing to clean up the bathrooms, nevermind the dozen customers that hadn't left. After a less long wait for the desserts and the check being dropped off by our server that apologized for all the other's shenanigans. We finally managed to get haphazardly checked out at the register as we got the final glare of the night from who we assumed was the source of everyone's frustration because all the other booths of customers had left... but other than that, the ice cream was as tasty as we remembered and the place looked great! We came here on two different occasions. Once for breakfast and there were more people in the restaurant. The second time was during the week for dinner and it was pretty deserted. It's quiet, just a neighborhood type place. The only reason we came was because we were giving money to come here upon visiting a timeshare presentation. If it weren't for that we wouldn't be here. We ordered a burger and a crispy chicken sandwich. The burger was not season but was cook nicely and the chicken sandwich was hard and not crispy so it was sent back. They did allow me to get another meal to take place of the chicken sandwich. They were very courteous on that part. The servers were great. For breakfast we ordered pancakes which were huge and delicious scrambled eggs and sausage links which my mom enjoyed. I tried the French toast which was made from brioche bread so it was thick and they dip it in some type of cinnamon and sugar mixture so a little sweet but not bad and sprinkled with powdered sugar. The eggs and bacon were eggs and bacon but they were pleasant. I got a butter pecan ice cream with Butterfingers on top Sunday to go and it was just okay ice cream. Nothing to call home about. Useless staff and management. More employees than tables sat and they are seriously in the weeds. Employees standing around while tables need bused, pre-bused, trash on the floor. The table next to us had to ask the staff to take away the dinner plates when the brought out the ice cream. 10 minute wait while there are only a few tables occupied. Our sever (Payton) yelled at the hostess in front of us, rolled her eyes at us when we ordered, and said the cooks were being crazy because they messed up our order. The restaurant was dirty and uninviting, they definitely need to get reinspected because they do not deserve an A rating. They messed up two things that we ordered and charged us incorrectly. A friend had recommended going to Friendly's for breakfast Wanting to try something unique to the area I ordered the "Southern Breakfast" which came with 3 eggs, choice of meat, biscuit & gravy I have noticed that portion sizes are typically pretty large in the South and was expecting a much larger portion. Which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. The portion was actually a good size for me The biscuit, bacon & eggs were pretty much typical breakfast fare, but not knowing much about gravy, I must say the gravy was very good! Very delicious! It seemed like a good idea at the time. In my defense my wife shot down all my ideas for where we should eat. We were tired, hangry and came here by default, thanks to happy childhood memories of watermelon sherbet and pistachio ice cream. Still, it is reasonable to expect fresh and delicious food brought to your table in a timely fashion. Sadly, this location offers none of these things. The menu was boring as f#%*. I got some awful chicken tender thing because I was exhausted from staring at the menu trying to find something that looked appetizing. The dining room was clearly overstaffed for the 3 families that were in there, and it was puzzling how two chicken tender based entrees and a kids pizza could have taken over half hour to move from the freezer our table. Our meal came with a happy ending sundae and the ice cream was actually as good as I remember (after waiting and waiting). After what we endured, the sundaes WERE a happy ending. I might consider coming back JUST for the ice cream, but never on vacation where time is precious and there as so many places to choose from. read more

The service here was really good. I have visited the old Friendly's restaurant in Eustis, FL while there visiting relatives, so I was astounded to find a few of them in Myrtle Beach. I tried their "Honey BBQ Chicken Supermelt". This was a delicious, melty chicken sandwich. On the side I had some loaded waffle fries. Good fries! But, I did not like the cheese very much. My wife and I stopped in for a late dinner. There was two girls at the hostess station, a few cashiers and several waitresses. First off you would expect a place called "Friendly's" to actually be friendly. There was not a single person smiling but rather had a look of boredom and irritability for having to be there at all. After a long wait for nothing more than an appetizer sampler with sliders, our food was brought to us by a woman other than our own waitress and just sat down on the table with no word, no smile and no care if we needed anything else. We waited on refills and utensils while our food got close to cold. My advice to the staff...if you don't like your job, quit!! My advice to the owner...if they can't treat customers better and make it their goal to give customers a fun experience, fire them!! The only two workers that was smiling that we observed were two white servers. Sorry not being racial but only way I can point out the ones without a pissed off look on their faces. read more

Friendly's is the reason I come to Myrtle Beach all the way from Texas. Lol When we come to visit family, Friendly's is first on our list of must do's. We come back as often as possible for the ice cream mostly, but yesterday we picked up some lunch for a beach picnic and the food was excellent!
