We had a great experience at Grumpy Monk! There's tons of parking, which is always a plus, and there are both indoor and outdoor seating options. Inside, the space is really open with lots of TVs, so you won't miss a game no matter where you're sitting. Everything was super clean, which we definitely noticed and appreciated. The staff struck were attentive and friendly without hovering. Their draft selection is excellent, with plenty of options to choose from. As for the food, everything came out exactly as ordered, tasted delicious, and the portions were huge. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and amount of food. Way, way, way too loud in here. The open floor plan made me feel like we were eating in a high school cafeteria. Wasn't impressed with the food service. The waitress we had was fine but the food servers just stood at one end of the table and handed everything to me and then I had to hand it all off to the other 6 people in our party. What are we tipping for then? Should I just be the food runner myself? That's what it felt like. Prices here used to be way, way, way better. Every time I come here they've raised prices again. No real value here and their craft beers are definitely overpriced. No need to add to the noise by having a guitar player singer guy in the corner either. Stopped for dinner because we wanted a place to eat that we didn't have to plan around traffic for the evening. Food was great and our server was awesome! Super friendly and knowledgeable on all the menu items. Top picks are the burger, chicken fingers and the French dip sandwich. We had a great experience, plus there was live music. On vacation from Alabama, my family was on a mission: custom airbrushed t-shirts. We found our prize at Broadway, and just as we finalized our designs, the collective stomach growls of three hangry children reached DEFCON 1. Fortunately, Grumpy Monk was right next door, and the doors were open. A literal lifesaver. It was early for lunch on a Thursday, so the place was calm--which is ideal when you're rolling in with a toddler who's one cracker away from a full meltdown. Our server deserves a medal. She took our order while Sadie was mid-scream and even brought out a bowl of strawberries to help tame the tiny beast. Hero move. Our son went with the classic grilled cheese and applesauce (approved), and the girls split mac 'n cheese and those now-sacred strawberries. The food came out quickly--so quickly, in fact, I only managed one sad photo of the mac before the chaos resumed. I ordered a French 75 martini (yes, please) and my husband tried a mystery draft beer ("dealer's choice" style). Drinks were solid. No notes. The food, however... well, let's just say the "Funky Irishman" was more funky than function. The corned beef was so tough I couldn't bite through it. I'm not one to send things back, but this was unchewable. They kindly let me swap it for a buffalo grilled chicken sandwich. It was edible, but between the blackened seasoning, buffalo sauce, and ranch, it was sodium overload. My husband's Cali Grilled Cheese was basically a BLT in disguise. Tasty? Sure. But grilled cheese it was not. Once we made the sandwich switcheroo, things settled down. Overall, it wasn't terrible--but not exactly a $120 lunch, either. Then again, such is the cost of feeding a family in a tourist hotspot. TL;DR: Kid-friendly, solid service, strong drinks. Food? Meh. Went here on Saturday February 22nd 2026 with my parents and a few friends as a party of 9. Walked in, and then was greeted by a smiling host who sat us at a half table/half booth near the kitchen. We all sat down and were comfortable. Our server greeted us right away and started us with drinks, as I ordered a pepsi. Others ordered some soda, water, and beers. We ordered some appetizers like the pretzel, and Southwestern Spring Eggrolls. The pretzel was soft and delicious and loved the beer cheese sauce! So were the Southwestern spring eggrolls! For entrees, I got The Spicy Tuna Roll Sushi with a side of Fries. My parents ordered burgers, both with salads and cooked Medium. others had a mix of burgers and salads. Oh and the salad portions are big- my friend had a big bowl of salad! I enjoyed my spicy tuna roll! Server accomodated us, checked on us, and accomodated our separate checks. . Also used the restroom this visit, and it was clean. be forewarned though it only has 3 stalls and is small. Got our checks, and paid with a credit card. Ok disclaimer I was ticked because the awesome name and a great menu on line but once we got there the menu was different. I had something picked out that didn't make the cut. Service was only mediocre as we had to ask for refills. He checked on the beer but not rhetorical water and teas. The maple glazed salmon was dirt and overdone. Cool interior and a great concept. A simple club sandwich was forgotten about and was delivered to the table well after the rest of us had been served. We come here every time we visit MB. Just went there and service was super slow. We arrived at 6 and it took 1.5 hours for my party of 3 to get our food. When food arrived 80% of it was not hot. Waiter didn't even come back to check to see if everything was OK after it was brought out. We were given 3 different excuses as to why it took so long while everyone around us got their food. Ultimately the manager said she believes the food was put in late. Manager was asked twice to come to our table and when she finally got there she threw her host and server under the bus as to blame. (We never should have been seated we should have been on a wait and your server put your order in late.) She comped our meal only 15% which is a joke, a whole $9. We will never be back & will not recommend. Anyone in the service business knows this is unacceptable. Be accountable and don't lie as to what's going on in the kitchen. Most people would be understanding if your kitchen is backed up but it made no sense that everyone around us and large groups were getting their food. The manager really left a bad impression with us. She just made the situation even worse. She was the manager in charge and certainly not accountable. She didn't even come back to our table to say, hey, I've taken off 15% and apologize for the situation. Anyways, go at your own risk. They aren't afraid of groups! We needed a table for like 15 people for a family dinner and our normal spots had changed since covid and wouldn't seat us together. Grumpy Monk had no problem so we moved our dinner here. They have a huge menu including bar food, steaks, salads, burgers, sushi (yes sushi), and more. We were informed right away about the happy hour deals and I would come back for those alone. Happy hour had great deals on food and drinks. I had a couple cocktails and some buffalo dip too. The apps were great and most people enjoyed the entrees too. I wasn't loving my sushi, but I ordered a couple odd ones thinking it's not a legit sushi place so I'll try something a little non-traditional. I had the Chant roll (Go CCU) with chicken and fried shrimp. This one was decent and I ate most of it. The other one was the spicy crab butter roll which sounded amazing. Unfortunately, it sounded better on the menu than how it tasted. Overall, we had a good time and I'd be back... especially for happy hour. read more
