Great way to buy quality books. Staff is helpful. Wish it was bigger and longer hours. But so happy it's available

Out of the 2 locations I've been to, this has a better parking lot as well. Since the store is a lot bigger, that means a lot more selection of figures, books, manga, videos and more. In general, I do enjoy this store as it has great value. I found quite a few things that were quite cheaper here than if you go to a large retail store. If you have anything that you may want to get rid of (but works very well or in good shape) you can see if they're willing to it and give you an estimate. The staff are helpful to help you (the best of their ability) to find what you are looking for or need.

It's really disappointing to see how far they've fallen, especially when it comes to their pricing…read more I don't know what their strategy is with used games and movies, but they seriously need a reality check. In some cases, their used prices actually exceed MSRP. For example, they're charging $70 for a loose, boxless copy of Pokémon Legends: Z-A for the Nintendo Switch 2--which is full retail price for a second-hand, incomplete item. Their trade-in values are just as bad. It's not uncommon for them to offer you a tenth of what they plan to resell your item for. I get that the secondhand market relies on profit margins, and that they're banking on uninformed sellers looking for quick cash, but they're doing it at the expense of their loyal, long-time community. At this point, books are the only category where you can still find a decent deal. For anything else, you're much better off using eBay or finding a different store.

Okay, this Barnes & Noble hits different. You walk in expecting the usual fluorescent lit, "we ran…read moreout of budget for interior design" bookstore vibe, and instead it's super clean, modern... and actually kind of nice? Almost fancy. A bit sus, honestly. But the book selection is deep and staff is chill and helpful without hovering over you like you're about to steal a Stephen King novel. That parking though... If you've been to The District, you already know that lot is chaos 24/7. Not their fault but be ready for a full-contact sport out there. lastly, I took my kid to the kids' section and it's actually legit, not just three shelves and a beanbag chair. Bought myself a solid 20 minutes of silence while he lost his mind over "Who Was?" books. 10/10, would trade my peace for books again.

The personal staff picks/selections are all wonderful suggestions. While they do have a lot of books/genres/authors it does seem like a lot of options were missing specifically in classics and fiction. Again they can't sell every book ever but this last visit was more of a miss for me. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly here and the store is clean!

If you isolate the stationery section of a Kinokuniya Bookstore, then you get Mai Do. There is a two-story Mai Do in Japantown San Francisco and another location in San Jose. [Parking]: Mitsuwa Marketplace has a designated parking lot, but it is one of the more difficult parking lots to navigate in Orange County because Mitsuwa Marketplace also has a food court that draws a huge crowd. [What to Expect]: A-tier selection for Japanese writing instruments, greeting cards, and journals. While the selection is not as customized or curated as some specialty stationery shops, there are still plenty of cute items to choose from. B-tier selection for plushies and the plushies are really overpriced here. [Conclusion]: Come here for Japanese stationery and only window shopping for plushies. P.S. - Kinokuniya Membership Card benefits do not apply at Mai Do (Maido) locations.

They Wouldn't accept my return on an unused, brand new with tags item because I didnt have my receipt. I understand my responsibility to have a proof of purchase. However to not even have an exchange or store credit offered when clearly the item still had their original price tags on it is absurd. They could have issued me store credit, charged a restocking fee, and they would still have us as customers. Store credit would not only guarantee a return customer, but it would also show ' good faith ' and appreciation to their customers. We wont be returning. And im sure thats exactly what they wanted given how they treat people.

The whole time I was at UCI, the UCI Bookstore was just the UCI Bookstore. Apparently in 2013, they…read morerebranded as the Hill and then more recently the Hill has been bought out by Barnes and Nobles. New students may not know the difference if they did not know our former bookstore, but as an Alumni I notice the corporate effects making our once beloved UCI Bookstore less unique and more expensive. I recently came back for a Book Signing for my former Vietnamese Professor for the Vietnamese Stories that is written in Vietnamese and translated into English. It is a great language tool for those who are studying either languages. It has great insight into the Vietnamese culture and traditions, as long as you keep in mind that the origins of these stories were from many eras ago. The Book Signing event was nicely set up and I was able to meet one of their managers who was a fellow Anteater Alumni too. The staff was very sweet and accommodating to the event. Since the staff is still UC students, they are still friendly and sweet -- for the most part. My issue is with the merchandise and pricing. The books here are probably over 25% more expensive than if you were to buy it somewhere else. It is sad that some students who do not have the time or knowledge to buy their books elsewhere will be extorted to buy their books here. Every year the bookstore will buy your books used for dirt cheap and then resell it for barely less than a new book. I am sure things will only get worst now that the bookstore has completely gone corporate on us. Other than buying a few of my respectable Professor's book to support him, I was not too interested to buy anything else. I actually want to buy a few more of these copies for friends and family who want to learn more about Vietnamese culture, but I will probably order it online. Zot Zot!
