As a year round resident, I can attest to the great experiences with Friends. Best meats in town, the only acceptable hot bar in the area, great mix of local produce, premade meals such as their meatloaf, chicken pot pie, quiches, broccoli salad, meatballs, stuffed pork chops and soups are all excellent. The store is a great size (not gigantic like the others), and their selection of wines and cheeses are vast. My only tiny complaint is that the bakery is meh. They would really benefit from partnering with a decent baker. The new check out set up is a big improvement, and the staff are unbelievably friendly. A great place to shop! read more

Friends is our go to place for meats. Their beef, pork, lamb, veal, and poultry are always delicious. Much fresher than at Stop and Shop. We also like that we can try new (to us) wines, and can always grab a Pain d'Avignon baguette. read more

This market is just the right size. I don't want to be overwhelmed with too many choices when I arrive for a few days vacation. They have a nice selection of heat and serve meals, a great deli and bakery, and an huge selection of wine. You can be in and out of the store in 15 minutes with everything you need for your visit to the Cape. read more

A really wonderful place to shop. Great produce, almost always great meats and poultry, great deli, grease bakery items, great everything else and in the prepared world too. The prices are high...but there are lots of sales and great value if cooking isn't for you. The biggest complaint is Connie, one of the most unpleasant checkout ladies in the entire food industry. She is heavy, impolite, unfriendly....and can make spending lots of extra bucks a real drag. She doesn't belong in this setting where the rest of the staff are top notch. read more

I love Friends' Marketplace! It is a wonderful supermarket it has everything you need. I have shopped here for years. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The meat, produce, prepared foods and bakery is always so fresh. Recently I hosted an 65 th wedding anniversary party for my parents. I had never had the opportunity to use Friends' Marketplace Catering. The menu online was so easy to use. I met with the owners Monila and Brian. They were knowledgeable and guided us to making the best decisions. They offer a wide variety of appetizers, sandwiches, entrées and desserts. Friends' Marketplace did an exceptional job! Everything was delicious. From the Italian charcuterie plate, vegetable platter, fruit platter, lobster rolls, chicken piccata and the herbed and crusted cod were out of this world. They also have a wonderful selection of beer and wine and a beautiful garden center. We got some gorgeous geraniums. My guest were so impressed. I will order platters for daily meals and entertaining instead of doing it myself. The quality was excellent. I may not cook all summer. Alright, 2 years later, its time to give Friends a little more credit. They carry some great local stuff - from bread to beer. The help is always very friendly. Parking lot is still scary. So why the 4th star? Two words: CHICKEN SALAD. No trip to Cape is complete without several sandwiches with their amazing chix salad. It's no joke - you'll often see someone behind the deli counter hand-picking the meat. And here's a another reason.. they carry a NJ delicacy - authentic Taylor Ham. read more

Friends Marketplace is one of my favorite local spots for several reasons. First, it's locally owned. A great thing these days to have in our area. Though it's a bit out of the way for me to do my regular grocery shopping, when I do get there to shop, their variety is much more varied (in a good way) than you might think for a small-is store. Their meat department, deli, hot bar, and pre-made meals and such have made this a great destination for those who want quality food to take home. The flower area is also a favorite of my wife, as several times a year we have to stop and at least look at the roses, if not smell them (which we do anyway...). One of the biggest strengths, I've found, is their catering. Our church has now used them three times for different sorts of meals, and the food is exceptional. From chicken piccata, to lasagna, fajitas, fruit and vegetable trays, and - most recently - their amazing sandwich trays, you won't be disappointed when you need to feet a crowd. The prices are reasonable, the portions are large, and the food is fresh and wonderful. The staff - headed by Monila Junkens - has been very adaptable to our needs and we are trying to find ways to have another catered dinner...soon! read more

This is my favorite place to stop in while in Orleans. They have a fantastic selection of local foods, fresh baked homemade breads and goods, produce, meat counter, deli, very nice wine selection, and good prices. They also have an amazing garden center year-round, with the best flowers (perennials and annuals) and a large selection of Christmas trees during season. I make the trip here often and LOVE this place. The people that work there are awesome too. You won't go wrong here. read more

I'm a long-time year-round Orleans resident and absolutely love Friends. They have a great location, convenient hours, great selection, and good prices. Yes, a bag of hamburger buns is going to be a little more than at either of the enormous stores on either end of town, but to me and my large family it is absolutely worth it. The Junkins family are professionals in the grocery store business and are dedicated to this place. Jim and his son are in the store every day to make sure things are running well. Wine and beer selection is awesome, they have a full-time beverage manager who is very knowledgeable. The meats are great, prepared foods (sandwiches, salads, pizzas, soups, sides) are super and if the deli clerks aren't too busy and you are polite they will even make you a sandwich to order. They have all that little stuff you might need in a pinch like greeting cards, cakes, coolers, candles, etc or for a great day at the beach. In winter they have great wreaths and Xmas trees, and in spring and summer we buy all our garden and plants from them because the prices, quality and selection are fantastic. It's been said that the owner is a great grocer who loves wines and garden stuff even more. Just go slow in the parking lot, and be happy that Orleans has such a special market right in town that carries everything you want and need. You know that feeling of being totally overwhelmed in the big stores when there are 24 different kinds of each product on the shelves and there is no one for miles to help you? This is a great local market. It is not a gourmet market. It is just a simple, friendly little store that does a nice job. They have a great meat department with real butchers. This is about 1/8 the size of a supermarket like Stop + Shop, so it easy to get in and out. Their prices are fair. Not super low, not high. I think they are a great contributor to Orleans and I try to support them. On some items, they genuinely are the lowest price in town, but I really go there for the service and speed of getting in and out. Stores like this were put out of business everywhere in the country. The name says it all. Not only does this place have a great array of grocery items, they have great deli, produce, and meat(a real butcher counter) departments. There wine and beer assortment is extensive and the bargain wine area is good for drinkable finds. They also have an extensive (as big as the market) garden section with great plant material. Now back to the name. The staff here is very friendly, helpful and accommodating. But the staff takes its cue from the boss, Jim. He is always in constant motion taking care of everything and constantly chatting with the customers old and new. He also goes out of his way to support local youth service groups. Cans and bottles turned in here are recycled for the nickel with the funds going to the local Kiwanis. Jim and his son also organize the plant purchase (a multi day commitment) for the annual Kiwanis Plant sale fund raiser. His support for the community is the embodiment of the Market's name and deserves your support and patronage. The final benefit is that you can cruise the entire store in the time it would take to hoof it in from the parking lot at the big super markets. read more

one star for the expensive, overly priced typical food. one star for the HUGE increase in beer. three stars for wine. the wine selection is like 1/3 of the store, and they have a discounted wine space right inside the door; three for 12 or something? then they have discounted wine that averages about 1/4 to 1/2 the original price. huge sales of typical wone like black opal etc. its where you go for wine on lower cape, not food. read more
