Lla bbok gi - ramen noodles, fish cakes, cabbage, & rice cakes in a spicy sauce - $7.5 - menu section B
    Kristin C.

I'm not comparing them to high end restaurants because that would be unfair. I think in comparison to other hole in the wall joints, casual Korean dining, and food court level places Friends deserve 5 stars. 1. They have no credit card minimum and there either is no tax or it is already included (in from Illinois so I'm not sure if this is PA standard) 2. Food comes out at a reasonable time, I get if you're in a rush it feels a bit long, but everything is super fresh. The fried food -tti gim($8.5) and the lla book gi ($7.5) were both piping hot and I could tell it wasn't just sitting around. It's nice that they give you a number so you just wait at a table. 3. They have some really good classic Korean comfort/hangover/treat yourself classics. 4. They ask you at the window if it's to go or for here. Even if you eat 'for here' they were more than kind to give me to go containers when I couldn't finish my food. 5. Everyone I talked to was very kind and quick with their work. I would recommend this joint. I came here at 1pm on a Saturday. I will say that the seating is a communal seating area for the entire food court so during 12-1 it can be hard to find a place to sit. Around two is usually much quieter.

They are under a new ownership and the food I tried in the past two weeks definitely tasted better. Friendly owners and it is one of the better food court stores at assi.

Plus the portions are very generous and the prices extremely reasonable. Be sure to grab a pancake, the gamtang or army stew, a classic dolsot bibimbap and a galbi. While the cooking is done in the kitchen, the galbi quality and flavoring cannot be beat - and the portion is quite generous especially given it is less than $30! The team here is absolutely wonderful and incredibly kind. We had 2 babies with us and they were welcoming, accommodating, and even helped to keep them entertained. It has been quite a number of years for me and I no longer live in the area but we will be back every time we come to visit my family. This is a true gem and you can see that this is a go-to for locals as the patrons are all on a first name basis with the team. If you are craving Korean, this needs to be your first stop!

If you've been to an Hmart, BornGa is basically the Hmart food court but its own independent restaurant, and that's not a bad thing. The menu is mostly made up of Korean soups and noodles, and I got myself a seolleongtang (ox bone soup). Really good among the seolleongtangs I've had, with a soothing beef flavor, a good amount of boneless meat that was easy to eat, and surprisingly some noodles in the soup along with the usual cup of rice. You do have to add salt as is usual for this dish, and there is a jar on every table. The highlight though was perhaps the only non-soup/noodle dish, the tonkatsu. My partner got it and it was HUGE, literally the size of your face. Perfectly crispy with a really nice sauce, no notes on the katsu itself. We did wish it came with more rice and the side salad, as the portions of those felt too small compared to the enormous katsu. However, there is complimentary and UNLIMITED kimchi (both the usual cabbage kimchi and radish kimchi) that you can serve yourself from a fridge, which is a great accompaniment to any meal. Just be reasonable and considerate with it, I'd hate for them to take it away because someone ruins it for the rest of us. Both dishes along with plenty of kimchi were incredibly filling, and every dish on the menu is a flat $16.99 (plus since it's counter-serve, no pressure to tip). All in all, BornGa is not the kind of Korean place that gives you a whole royal spread of banchan or piles of meat from the grill. But it's a great spot if you know what you're getting into - casual but affordable Korean comfort food.

Love that this place was very home-styled, comfy, and more dimly lit for a more intimate dining experience. We came here for BBQ, and the meat didn't disappoint. Some of the thicker meat cuts hadn't thawed yet though, so it took a little more time to cook. The staff attending us were very attentive, and helped us cut our food and manage the grill. Note: It's BYOB, so no alcohol is sold here. So if you want soju or makgeolli or some other 21+ beverage, make sure to bring your own. There is dessert if you want to have it there or to-go! Right by the front door, there's a freezer chock-full of popular Korean ice cream bars and snacks. It's easy to miss, so don't pass it by if you're craving something sweet. The melon-bars were calling my name, but unfortunately we were too stuffed on the way out or I would've totally caved. Still thinking about them though... 10/10 would recommend if you're looking for a chill and divey dinner with a partner or a couple of guests.

For what you get, set A is much more worth it from the beef options alone. To start off, it was a slower Sunday but there were still several parties inside at around 6PM. We were seated quickly, served the banchan quickly, and had our order taken quickly. There was only one waitress and she seemed to be quick and efficient with her service. The meat was much better quality than most AYCE kbbq we'd find in Philly and it was worth the 45-60 minute drive. We ordered many different cuts of beef and in large quantities, my favorites being the galbi and filet mignon. I would definitely come back again and my parents, whose first time was this visit, thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience and quality of meat for the price.
