After celebrating Christmas with Hubby's son's family we stopped here for supper on the drive home. The restaurant is conveniently located for interstate traffic and was not crowded the Saturday after the holiday. Hubby ordered the chili spaghetti, a favorite dish from his childhood, along with the salad bar and was pleased with his choice. The catfish caught my eye and onion rings seemed like the perfect side dish along with a dish of coleslaw. (I forgot to get photos of the coleslaw and Hubby's salad.). The catfish portion was quite generous and I took half of it along with half of the onion rings home for lunch the next day. There was no coleslaw or salad left to take home! As a child when I lived in Michigan, I ate a lot of big boys. It reminded me of my childhood. I had forgotten. They used tartar sauce on them, though which I thought was weird. But all in all it was still delicious. The service was excellent too. read more

We stop here pretty regularly on our way back from Norris Lake, and I've never had a bad experience. In fact, it just keeps getting better every time! I usually stick with my go-to -- the Big Boy and the salad bar -- and it never disappoints. The burger is always hot and fresh off the grill, with toasted buns and those crispy edges on the patty that you can't beat. The salad bar is clean, well-stocked, and full of fresh ingredients. Bonus points for the chilled salad plates -- no weird warm-plate-cold-salad situation here! The staff is always friendly and welcoming, with that genuine southern hospitality that's such a treat for us Yankees, lol! I had read an article stating that Frisch's and their Big Boy burger is a must try for those visiting Cincinnati. I decided to stop at this London location while on my way to Lexington. The general setup/ambiance is like an old school diner. All the staff was very friendly and the food came out extremely quick. I ordered a plain Big Boy burger with fries and Mac n cheese. Maybe I should have kept the sauce on because the burger was fairly bland. They serve crinkle fries here, which were as good as crinkle fries can be. The Mac n cheese was also pretty bland and the cheese sauce was too watery. It seems like Frisch's is trying to settle itself into a market of value vs quality. The food was relatively inexpensive and came out faster than some fast food chains I've visited. Unfortunately other restaurants do it better though. read more

Big boy has long been a favorite of my families. Since we don't have Big Boy at home, anytime we're traveling through we always stop at this location. The food is cheap, good portions, yummy and the staff here is friendly. Our waitress, Amanda, was efficient and always had what we needed before we had to ask. If unsure of what to get, I suggest the original big boy and a hot fudge cake for dessert. Can't wait to stop by big boy next time we pass through. read more

I understand we came in LATE (like 7:30pm) so I know how the taco meat was so overcooked (burnt even) and had zero taco seasoning taste left...but what I don't understand is why it wasn't erased from the board or why the waitress or cook didn't refuse to serve it when it was visually unacceptable as well. I suppose Big Boy has become my favorite local eatery. The number of check-ins I have will prove this... more than double any other restaurant in the area. The food is good, and the price is reasonable. What makes Big Boy so special is that it can cater to almost anyone's tastes. There is a buffet, a salad bar, and a diverse menu from which you can order. I trust that this can satisfy even the pickiest of diners. The buffet can be hit-or-miss. Very rarely do I order it, because I normally am not overly fond of what is offered. I must say that it is very consistent. The food always tastes the same, so if you like it, you will always like it. The same would hold true if you dislike it. Friday nights buffet is undoubtably the most popular (and the only time I usually ever order it). Seafood night. Crab legs, fried clams, fried catfish, etc. Big Boy's tartar sauce being available on the buffet probably has a lot to do with me ordering it, because it is amazing. Saturday nights buffet, grilled chicken and steak, is one I almost always pass on. The chicken is pretty good, but I highly dislike the steak offered. The meat is very low-quality and very difficult to chew. This is to be expected, as buffet usually means low quality. During the morning/early afternoon on weekends, a breakfast buffet is offered, which is delicious. I normally do not eat there at this time because I usually overeat and sicken myself. Biscuits and gravy, pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausage links (my favorite), etc. You can't go wrong with that. I seem to recall that this special weekend "brunch" buffet is offered until 2:00 pm. The salad bar is amazing. Every time. If you like salad, you WILL like Big Boy's salad bar. The selection is a bit limited, but it is always on point. Big Boy's ranch dressing is very delicious, which they also sell in jars by the cash register, along with their AMAZING tartar sauce. The menu, as stated previously, is quite diverse. On offer is everything from burgers, to seafood, to pasta, to home-style meals like meatloaf. I usually get a burger if I am passing on the buffet. The Super Big Boy is a personal favorite of mine. Earlier this evening I had a 1/3 lb. Western BBQ Burger. I have posted pictures of both of these. The Western Burger looks a little gross in the picture, but it was AMAZING. Keep in mind that I ordered this 40 minutes before closing. Food quality can sometimes take a dip when this close to end of business, but not this time! The seafood platter is also very good. My wife loves the spaghetti and the fish sandwich. Big Boy also offers dessert items. Their hot fudge cake is the stuff of legend, although it doesn't seem to be as good now as I remember it from childhood. They have a variety of pies and cakes available, by the slice or whole. During the weekend this place is packed almost all day. The restaurant isn't very big and the tables and booths aren't spaced out very well, so if you don't like crowds or noise, I would avoid it during these times. I have loved Big Boy since childhood, but I guess I never really realized how much I loved it until I checked in earlier and noticed my very high number of check-ins. Don't be fooled by the stereotype of "old people restaurant." I am 32 years old, and I love it dearly. Give it a try, and you just might love it, too. read more

The food here wasn't terrible, it just wasn't really good either. I avoided the $8 breakfast buffet and just got a basic burger combo with sweet potato fries. With the up charge for the fries, I ended up spending $9 in a mediocre burger on a cold, dried out bun. The sweet potato fries were really fresh and tasted decent. It would have been fun to have a sweet or mustardy dipping sauce to elevate them. The girl who took my order at the window was really sweet and the service was fast, though. They have a meatloaf sandwich on the menu that I'm just enough of a masochist to go back and try, but that's the extent of my interest. read more

Lost my virginity to Big Boys today. I ordered the Turkey Club Combo Large (no tomato) with Sweet Potato Fries, and a side of Ranch. My total was $10.43. We opted to use the drive thru, due to timing. My sandwich was pretty good, especially with the ranch, which was probably one of the best ranch sauces I've ever had. It had little carrots and seasonings in it. The sweet potato fries were good, but the portion size for a large combo seemed small and they were extremely greasy. Do you mean to tell me that you asked a semi truck to run over my burger pattie before you cooked it! Let me first say that I love the Big Boy Brand . It historically was an American Icon in the restaurant business. I've had numerous Big Boy Hamburgers most great, some not so. When I stop into this Big Boy restaurant while traveling today and ordered a Big Boy hamburger what they brought me was in no way a Big Boy Hamburger, it was a sad attempt to throw a patty and a bun together. The cook in the back must be a novice. My visit to this Big Boy was a disappointment and what they brought to me for my order of A Big Boy Hamburger was a total joke! read more
