To be fair, we previously took our pets to this practice at their former location and received acceptable care. Unfortunately, our experience at the new facility last night was completely different. We brought our 5-month-old Doberman to the emergency clinic around 10:00 PM after he suddenly showed weakness in his back legs. I carried him in. Despite this, about 20 minutes later staff walked him back to me in the waiting room and asked me to remove his ear post because the doctor said she was uncomfortable doing it herself. After another 30 minutes, the doctor entered and asked the exact same questions we had already answered twice. When I pointed that out, her demeanor noticeably changed. She immediately began discussing genetic conditions, CT scans, MRIs, and surgery--without first performing or even proposing basic diagnostics such as an X-ray. When I asked whether an X-ray had been done, she responded sharply that she hadn't obtained my approval, despite never mentioning or quoting one. At that point, I declined further services and carried our puppy out. Thankfully, he is fine today. We followed up with our regular veterinarian of nearly 20 years, who agreed that monitoring for additional symptoms was the appropriate next step. I fully understand concerns around backyard breeding and puppy mills. However, we purchased our dog from a well-established, reputable breeder, and the judgment we experienced for owning a cropped-ear Doberman was unprofessional and unwarranted--especially during an emergency visit. Based on this experience, I would recommend considering other local emergency clinics. Well, where do I start? This emergency clinic saved my dog's life three years ago. I have fully trusted them for the last three years. My little baby got sick a couple days ago, so of course I took her back to people that I thought I could trust. I was in total shock. The vet that treated her came out and told me that she was deathly ill that she was bleeding internally, and that if I did not do a $12,000 surgery on her right now she would die if I took her home. Of course I was devastated. Well needless to say I do believe in God. And I believe he was telling me that this vet was a total liar. She had told me that she had a tumor on her spleen. And that the tumor was leaking if not had busted already, and that my little dog would die. She also told me if I could not afford the $12,000. My only other option was to let them humanly euthanize her. My soul just told me no not true. I said I will be taking my baby home. She again told me that I had to sign a release because she would probably die in the night. Well, let me tell you she did not die in the night. She did not get sicker. I took her to a different vet in the morning. The vet informed me that no there was nothing going on with her spleen, she was definitely not bleeding inside. She does have a small tumor on her liver, which was in no way an emergency surgery situation. Frisco emergency clinic sent me home with a medication that is supposed to stop the bleeding or slow it down. When the other vet found out what she had given me. The second vet told me to stop the medication. It was not needed, and there was no proof that the medication actually works. Of course, Frisco charged me a ton of money. For what to make me be in terror all night watching my baby. The most sad part to me is I fully had faith in this company. I had trusted them with my baby many times. And now I feel like they straight lied to me to make me pay for a surgery that was not needed. So my question is, Would they really have put her to sleep if I told them I was not taking her home. People that is terrifying thinking that a Vet that you trust would actually kill your baby to prove a point. Please please please do your research. I did not read reviews on this company because I had used them many times. But afterwards, I started reading the reviews and it is terrifying what they are doing to loving Pet parents. I will be reporting this to my vet her primary vet. And to anyone else and everywhere else so that I may possibly save a pet's life. Yelp is asking me to make a star rating. Unfortunately the time had come to put our 14 year old Lab down. We brought him here and everything about the experience was as thoughtful and caring as it could have been. The staff at every level seemed to genuinely care about what my wife and I were going through with this decision. I apologize for the delayed review. I thought I had posted it 3 months ago. Unfortunately I had to bring my extremely ill dog in at 4:00 am on an early September morning. Both the vet/owner and the staff were terrific and could not have been more gentle and comforting to both me and my dog considering the condition we were in. They took immediate care for him from the moment I walked in the door and the Dr was so warm and comforting and walked me through the entire medical issues and circumstances my elderly dog was facing. As horrible and tremendously upsetting as it was to lose my beloved pet in those early hours of the morning, they made the transition as gentle and comforting as they could. They did follow up with a phone call a couple of days later to check on me as well as sent a very nice card to me. A Nightmare at Frisco Emergency Pet Care: Stay away from this fancy facility driven by the owner who sold his soul to devil. I regret to say that my recent experience at Frisco Emergency Pet Care was nothing short of a nightmare. I wish I did my research and actually read through reviews. But unfortunately when your furry babe is in a state of emergency, you panic and you try to seek quick help. My dog swallowed a catnip toy that got lodged in her smaller intestine. After we brought her in Frisco Emergency Pet Care they took her in quickly and gave me a call with plan of actions. They needed t do x-rays to determine what was going on, because at that time we didn't know what was wrong and the only symptoms were prolonged vomiting. They called and gave me an estimate, I agreed to it and asked to proceed with diagnostics. After we discovered what was the issue they suggested the surgery and gave an estimate $5000-$9000, and requested a lower end 50% deposit, I paid $2500 right away and they proceeded with surgery. After it was done, my dog was discharged on the second day after surgery with the bill of close to $7000 that I paid with no negotiation or anything. On the second day back home my dog started bleeding and discharge was coming out of her incision. My dog was discharged Saturday and Monday night she started having problems. I was furious. We brought our dog back for complications. They examined her and stated that her internal incision came undone due to fluid built up from an infection in her abdominal and she needed another surgery to fix it. First time when she was discharged they didn't even sent her home with any kind of antibiotics, anti anxiety or any medications besides pain pills and diarrhea medicine. They wanted to charge additional $1700 on top of $7000 we already paid for second surgery. We fought with their Chief of Staff/Owner to own up that the complications were developed because 1st surgery wasn't successful and my dog was discharged too soon without proper medication to ensure her successful recovery. We settled to pay additional $700 to cover medication cost and they proceeded to do 2nd surgery. Needless to say they were rushing us to pick her up on the very next day after surgery with tube sticking out of her abdominal. I asked them to keep her till that tube is removed and she is in a stable condition to come home, because I didn't want any complications develop. They did, they kept her till tube was removed and we brought her home and she is recovering. But it wasn't without great stress, absolutely horrible experience dealing with Michael LoSasso who shouldn't be in this industry as he belongs on Wall Street with his hunger for money and no care for animals whatsoever. People lost their hearts in a race for money. And he had an audacity to send me an email that we didn't pick up our dog in a timely manner and that we treated his team poorly. Excuse me? I haven't yelled or talked disrespectfully to any of your team members, I've asked them to care for my dog and ensure her successful recovery. I pushed back when you wanted to send my dog home with the tube sticking out of her abdominal, I am a concerned pet owner who didn't feel comfortable bringing my dog in such state and experienced PTSD with possibility of a repeat complications. Overall, my experience at Frisco Emergency Pet Care was nothing short of a disaster. I would strongly advise pet owners to steer clear of this establishment and seek care elsewhere. It's clear that the well-being of animals is not their top priority, and no pet deserves to be subjected to such incompetence and neglect. And you Mr. Michael LoSasso can keep your reply and comments to yourself, because I am disgusted by your behavior and karma is coming your way Sir! The horrific experience you put me and my dog through will come back around your way and teach you a lesson that money is not everything that matters in this world. This emergency vet is not only grossly overpriced (based on past visits) but also severely understaffed (based on our latest visit). Saturdays and Sundays are clearly their busiest days, and yet they seem to have only one vet on premises. We brought our dog in on Sunday, October 13th, and after 6 hours he had still not been seen by the doctor. We were told after four hours of waiting that he was next to be seen, and then after arriving at the clinic an hour and a half later were told he was again next to be seen. Two hours after first being told we were next, our dog still had not been seen by a doctor and we took our dog and went home; we will take him to our regular vet in the morning as a walk-in. Clearly, the Frisco Emergency Pet Care clinic is too cheap to hire sufficient medical staff given that they are open 24x7, and is extremely poor at communicating and managing the expectations of their patients. The fact that they moved to a larger facility (which is probably where there money is going rather than to hiring veterinarians) does not mean they can or will provide better care if they don't have veterinarians present who can actually see patients. Fortunately, there are other emergency vets around and should we need it in the future, we absolutely will avoid Frisco Emergency Pet Care. UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO OWNER'S COMMENTS ON GOOGLE: it's really great to see that you have time reply to negative reviews, but don't have the time to actually treat patients. There is absolutely nothing libelous about my comments since they are true. The only reason we went back this time is because of proximity. The fact that you think that you are less expensive than any other ER vet is laughable. Just like many businesses that build bigger facilities, you are unable to handle the increased number of patients and had to stop intakes today. As I said, fortunately there are other ER vets who know how to service patients. I don't know how long you've been a vet, but we have had Pugs for 35 years and are very familiar with their medical issues. This hospital saved my 13 1/2 year old corgi Stewie who started developing problems breathing and ended up being diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. He spent a few days here and the staff couldn't be more accommodating and caring and I felt he was in good hands. He was completely dependent on having to be in an oxygenated kennel and after 2 1/2 days and given the necessary medications he's able to now breathe without the oxygen and is doing well. I know he will need to remain on medications for the remainder of his life but I'm forever grateful with their care and medical expertise they gave me more time with him. I would recommend this hospital if your dog was ever in a life / death situation. read more

Lauren Szalach, DVM reminds me of Dr. Death. She recommended that I have my cat euthanized without running any tests. Specifically, she told me and my husband that my cat had 85 percent kidney failure. How could she have known without running tests? She could not! Earlier that day, I had taken my cat to her regular vet. They ran some labs on her. Once the lab work came back it showed that she had pancreatitis. According to two vets, all she needed were some antibiotics. My cat was euthanized unnecessarily! The only options Dr. Death gave me while I was at the hospital were the following: 1. Euthanize her 2. Pay $3000 for the first day and $1000 each day after so she could stay at the hospital and give her fluids. She stated that she may not survive for very long. I was in the process of bringing my meowser here because he was in really rough shape. Not eating, barely breathing, unable to control his bowels etc. On the way, he seized in the car and passed. I rushed in with him not knowing if he had actually passed or passed out. I wasn't wearing a mask, didn't abide by their rules and burst through the door. They were very accommodating and immediately took him back to a doctor. After being advised that he passed, we were able to spend as much time with him as possible. They explained the cause of death and that it wasn't preventable. We spent over an hour talking to the doctor, spending time with our cat in a private room. They even brought in a grief counselor who checked in with us after a day or so to see if we were ok. It was a really nice gesture. They gave us a free paw print, and offered us private cremation services. While this was obviously traumatic and a very sad day, Im very glad we went there. I can't even explain how nice and accommodating they were. Truly exceptional people providing an exceptional service. I am currently on maternity leave and woke up this morning to my cat stuck with her collar around her neck and in her mouth. Her lower jaw was swollen and she had bloody paws from trying to get off the collar. It was my distinct impression my bill was being padded. I think that because my dog had started getting better by the time I got there. And he didn't get sick in the four hours they had him. But when I thought to leave "oh. It's the dogs adrenaline from being in the car. That's why he looks better." Ok fine. But the dog is now grinning like a jackass, I've had him for 13 years, I can tell when he's in a good mood. yet they gave him $70 nausea medication? They said he licked his lips and that was a sign he had nausea. Plus they send him home with a probiotic he's supposed to take for a few days, that they wanted to charge $70 for (almost 100% markup compared to Chewy). Why? Because I said he had diarrhea that morning. And they gave him $70 in "injectable" fluids. On top of $175 exam fee. I did say he had lost weight recently and oh boy did they want to do the big panel of blood work tests. I asked to just do the basic one and they made sure to put in their comments how I insisted on a "conservative" approach. I protested these things because I have financial trouble but they practically insisted on it. Like I was the bad guy for not wanting to do it. I ultimately went along with it because I don't want to override a doctor when my beloved dogs health is in question. Even if that means I don't trust what I'm being asked to pay. Another way to put it this ...when I eat something bad (which is what they concluded),and I get sick, if I were to go to the doctor at all (which I haven't despite getting food poisoned 2-3 times), and I said I was feeling better, I don't think my doctor would hook me up to an IV. Nor do I think he would send me home with nausea medication. And if I had diarrhea once, I dont see him prescribing me a $70 probiotic. Especially if I said I had been laid off and please don't do anything unnecessary. In the end, they did give me a discount that accounts for the markup on the two of the treatments. But at the end of the day, I suspect my love for my pet was used to leverage $409 out of me that I really couldn't afford. read more

Had an amazing experience here! Very professional staff. Great communication with the vet. She gave us options on scale of mild-aggressive treatment options including price. Luckily our pup didn't require invasive interventions and got to come home quickly. The only reason I'm taking 1 star away is how the owner on here responds to peoples reviews. I'm a nurse and have dealt with a lot of high stress and emotional situations where the patients aren't thinking clearly and I would never talk to them in such a way. It is very hard for me to write this post as my ending didn't end up happy, but the care that Dr. Appel gave my sweet sookie is something i will forever be grateful for. As a person, she has a calming energy to her and she did everything she could to save my baby. I had to sadly lay her to rest and dr Appel stayed with me in the room just comforting her little self. I had a 15 year old who passed two years back and i wasn't offered this level of humanity or care. The office was so compassionate in their level of care towards my baby and myself. I can't say enough great things about this practice! My dog jumped into a window and had a gash in his leg. My vet recommended we go to Frisco Emergency and I am so thankful for them. And when we went to go pick up our dog they charged us for other medications that they told us they gave our dog and we asked for proof they took us into this room and had a vet come in and lecture us. I have to give the biggest, most heartfelt thank you to this place after we had to make the insanely tough decision to let our old pug cross rainbow bridge. Our 14 year old rescue pug had collapsing trachea and COPD issues for years that were managed well with hydrocodone. Two weeks ago, the hydro become ineffective, and our pug could not stop coughing violently trying to breathe. We took him to this ER vet and, thankfully, were seen immediately. They put him in an oxygen cage overnight, and by morning, no progress was made. He couldn't breathe or stop coughing normally without being on oxygen (and there is no take-home oxygen tank or process for dogs like for humans). They let us visit with our sweet boy for as long as we wanted in a private room and made him warm chicken for us to feed him one last breakfast. Then, they let us spend as much time with him after he had crossed rainbow bridge. We went in around 8:15am and didn't leave until 11am. Having the extra time with our pug for full closure meant THE WORLD to me. I initially thought maybe we got the extra time with him because it was slow that day (and because we had spent a lot of money), but nope, they even explain this as their process on their website. Having grown up a fulltime dog owner, I know that this is not the same process everywhere. I couldn't have imagined saying goodbye to my baby at any other place. Their cremation and paw print process was seamless and affordable. For being a ER vet, the prices were not unreasonable. Dr. Jill Whitwell was one of the nicest, most comforting vets I've met. Thank you, Dr. Whitwell! I greatly appreciated the handwritten sympathy card from her plus a separate card from the other staff members. About 6-7 months prior to this incident, we went to this place when our other senior pug hurt her back legs from jumping. The staff was great, helpful, and treated our girl quickly. That time, the wait was several hours long, so it's hit or miss, but the treatment was exceptional. read more

Had a sick little senior dog - appointment schedule for Monday, but Sunday she was getting worse. We called in advance and the asked lots of questions and let us know we could bring her in. I have seen many poor reviews because they had to refer folks to other vets, but I think this is very open and honest of them. If your pet needs an emergency vet, having to wait because of the volume of pets is not a good thing. They were up front on what it would cost us just to bring her in and be evaluated. We got there and called as instructed (that was my only complaint - you aren't able to go in with your pet) and they met us outside and said they would call for additional information once they did an quick initial exam. That call came in about 10 minutes and then they said it would take up to 2 hours for a return call. The vet called us within 40 minutes, outlined various treatment options and then emailed us the options with the price. We called back and let them know the course of action we preferred and they said she would be ready to pick up within an hour. It's been three days now and she is slowly back to her old self. I had come here due to my dogs health rapidly declining. She was my first dog that was mine and made me a proud mom and was my baby before i had my own (human) babies. Princess "Girl" gad an unexpected random severe decline in health right about a few short weeks before she was going to turn 10 years old. I tried everything to help her get better but her little body was so weak. I'll never forget the Sunday morning I woke up and checked on her first thing and immediately she told me "it's time" this was the first place that popped up on a google search. After having a quality of life consult with their wonderful social worker I made the hardest decision of my life (but best decision for her) to put her down. The staff allowed me to keep her there while I took my young kids to their dads house. EVERY PERSON from the front desk to the vet was so sweet and comforting and even shared some of their personal stories. I was comforted by the vet before the process that her current quality of life is not one any dog should have and doing this will put her out of any pain and as pet owner to pet owner told me I'm doing the right thing. A few days later I received a beautiful card with sweet messages as well as her paw print impressions and ashes in a beautiful box with her name on it. Worst experience with Frisco Emergency Pet Care...for years I have taken my dogs here and have had great service. Until the last 14 or so hours. I recently saved a dog from a kill shelter and the kill shelter did not spay her. She has begun to show signs of either a false pregnancy or a pregnancy...of course last night after vet offices were closed......I have been calling consistently to Frisco Emergency Pet Care to get her tested as I am at a loss on what to do (I have never had a pregnant dog because all my dogs get spay or neutered). Frisco Pet Care stated they would take her to test but are full. They further told me to keep calling to see when a spot would open up. So I continued to call and was told this morning able 5:30am that the current onstite veterinarian will not take her to test and see if she is pregnant. It is a simple x-ray or blood draw.
