Came in for lunch and had the Allagash White beer and the pastrami sandwich. This was truly one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The only down side was the fries. They were greasy and soggy. The server replaced them but the new ones were the same. Rachel was the bartender and was friendly and let me sample a couple beers before choosing one. Columbia is so full of lackluster chains. Frisco is a nice change from all the mediocrity. Great rolling beer selection and as an added bonus the staff actually is somewhat knowledgeable and makes good recommendations. As far as food goes- skip the queso. It was glorified nacho cheese of the likes of sporting events and movie theaters. However their skirt steak was freaking delicious. My other guest enjoyed their dinner selections as well. The service overall was not that attentive but as I said before I was just happy that our server knew her beers. Overall pretty good, definitely one of the best things Columbia has to offer. read more

Ambiance: Kind of off the beaten path, big parking lot. Huge interior space, well-divided into different areas. Nice fish tank. Service: Prompt and friendly enough. Did not offer any tasters, even when we asked if they had flights (they don't). Beer Selection: Great draft menu board of around 47 options, mostly local, almost all truly craft, and split among a wide variety of styles. They have a big bottle list, but I didn't look at it. Food: Pretty typical bar/pub fare. Kid liked her burger, wife liked her nachos, and my chorizo/queso dip was excellent. Value: Decent for the DMV. Overall: An excellent place to try local-ish craft beers, with one HUGE negative in that they don't offer flights. I was at a tiny taco/bbq joint the other day that had exactly six taps, and even they offered flights. On some nights this parking lot can get packed. They have a stellar beer selection. It rotates often so they display it on a screen in tiny tinny print. You can look it up on your smart phone just make sure you pull up the correct location. Their prices are a little higher than the dive bars I'm use to but you are getting higher quality more diverse craft beers. I really enjoy their Tuesday night trivia. The host does a good job mixing up questions and incorporating songs with clues in them. Some of the themes that you are suppose to connect are really freaking hard though. There is also leagues of groups who show up every week to win so don't feel bad if you don't come anywhere close to winning it's still fun to play. read more

I love the sofa and lounges in hte corner which is great for relaxing with a few friends. I've been here three times on different days and different times and never had a problem finding an empty bar stool in front of their 8 large LCD TV's. Long story short, don't order the crab cha chas. We received a total of four that had about the filling of one crab rangoon. For twelve dollars, this was not worth it. Frisco's is a great place to grab a beer and watch sports games. The cool thing is that they have their own selection of beers that they brew. Also, the bartenders typically can give you good recommendations if you're unsure on what beer to have. Their food overall is pretty good and filling, however it can be on the pricey side. This was my second time here. The first was with a group well versed in beer so they made the experience. This time I went with a friend who knows generally what she likes regarding beer. Our waiter Sam was so knowledgeable about beer that he was able to recommend two or three beers that suited our tastes. For me, I feel like I gave him a vague sentence and he brought me two beers that were very similar to two I loved from Gordon Biersch. I was very impressed. I guess about 2.5 stars for my review of Frisco Grill in Columbia. My husband and some friends of mine picked this restaurant for the beer list - and that was the best part about our dining experience. Our waiter was friendly enough, I think he was just really young and in need of a good server training class. We ordered a couple of appetizers, beers and waters. The appetizers and beers were pretty good and came out quickly. The water we ordered in the begining came to us about half way through the meal after asking about 4 times for it. The chicken nacho's were quite good and the waiter also offered us extra chips which probably saved this meal from being a one star. Once our food came, I was a little confused to what an "enchilada" at frisco grill was. I had ordered cheese enchiladas with a side of black beans. The enchiladas were more like un-fried empanadas which I figured were just this restaurants version. I gave them a try anyway because I really hate complaining and realized they were also chicken - instead of just cheese. The black beans were still no where to be seen. It wasn't terrible, just not what I had in mind. Towards the end of the meal, there was a band starting to set up. They were hovering around our table waiting for us to leave so they could take our spot. We all felt rather rushed so we hurried and paid the check to get out of there. Attended a pint night tonight and really enjoyed it. The place was pretty packed but we managed to find a table. You got a raffle ticket for each featured beer you purchased. Although we didn't win the raffle, we still took home a free pint glass and large growler. The server was very kind and allowed us to sample many of the featured beers. Great food and atmosphere, but the service falls flat. I came here with some friends around 3pm a few weeks ago and the place was nearly empty but seemingly well-staffed. The food was great. I had the ahi tuna poke special and LOVED it. Our server was friendly enough, but our first beers LITERALLY came out at the same time as our food that we ordered 10 mins after the beers. Unacceptable for a bar. We had to flag him down for refills too, and he forgot my sample of a beer I wanted to try so I ended up not drinking anything. This is a poor way to run a bar; if anything, the majority of our check here should have been alcohol since we are all beer enthusiasts. At the end of our little lunch date he told us the POS systems we're down, but this isn't an excuse for not being able to get people a beer poured in under 15 mins. Hi! We started our evening with a group HH at The Ale House in Columbia, MD. We lasted about 15 minutes when it became apparent that they were not interested in a group of 25 professionals. After receiving that message from a rude manager, we took our crew down the street to Frisco Taphouse on Dobbins Road. It was a last minute walk-in team of 25 and we were greeted with smiles and energy! They threw some tables together in a spacious area, provided an incredible nice and friendly waitress and off we went! The evening started rocky but ended so nicely. Not only was this restaurant able to accommodate this team but the food was absolutely fabulous! Every plate was empty and every beer glass dry! The selection was very fun and we enjoyed the variety. I've been to Frisco Taphouse and Brewery a couple of times in the last year and, while not perfect, there is a lot to like about this place. And it starts with their phenomenal selection of beer. Frisco has perhaps the best on-tap selection in the DMV. They have 50 beers on tap, and not only is there no "filler", nearly all of the beers are exotic rare batches from American craft breweries or hard to find imports. For example - they tend to keep 2-3 beers from Maryland's Flying Dog Brewery on tap. But don't expect to find your typical "Raging Bitch" or "Doggy Style" here. Currently they are offering Amarillo Imperial IPA, Cinnamon Porter, and Horn Dog Barleywine. There's typically two of the 50 beers available on cask, and 2-3 on Nitro. (They frequently have Left Hand Milk Stout on Nitro, and they've had Sawtooth on Nitro in the past as well) The most interesting selection I've had in my two trips there was actually not a beer at all. It was the "Evil Genius" IPA-Style mead from Michigan's B. Nektar Meadery, and it was one of the best things I have ever tasted. Note the "Brewery" part of their name. Yes, they are also a brewery, operating "Push Brewing Company" on premises, and offer a few of their selections on-tap. Push does collaboration brews with larger craft breweries as well. According to their website, they're currently offering one collaboration with Boulevard Brewing, and another with Yard's. And speaking of their website, they do a fantastic job of letting you know what is on tap and keeping it up to date. However, that's part of an issue with Frisco as well. They only draft list they have is a swanky digital tap list at the bar. It is VERY cool, and they maintain it pretty much in real time. I've seen them kick a beer and then it is removed from the list. But that is the ONLY tap list in the entire restaurant, and it isn't visible around the whole establishment. They send you to their website via your smartphone for a list. But an unreliable signal can make it frustrating to either wait, or have to stand up to view the draft list. I appreciate the use of technology, but I prefer the old school "print a new list daily" method. As for the food, my wife and I have enjoyed both of our meals there, but the menu and the atmosphere seem to be a bit confused. A beer selection like this screams "gastropub", but the atmosphere and the menu look more like a jazzed-up BWW or Glory Days. A perfect example of this is on our first visit when the wife and I started with a cheese plate, which came with the "chef's choices of cheese". Typically, you're expecting something exotic and worth the cost of paying for cheese - something that challenges the pallet. You are not expecting to get cheddar cheese. But that's what we got. Granted, it was good cheddar cheese, and I dug the tomato chutney it came with ... but cheddar? Really? My wife and I had their Bacon Ranch pizza that night and we thought it was B+ pizza. On our second visit, I stuck with the menu - which tends to shade towards traditional pub fare - and got a burrito. She went with a special .. lobster risotto. There's burritos, sandwiches, wings, salads, pizza ... the menu goes a bit all over the place and needs to be reigned in. That being said, I haven't had anything here that didn't taste good, and their desserts are creative and well done. The location is a down-side as well. There just isn't a lot of parking, and is generally tough to get in and out of. It certainly isn't as accessible as other restaurants in Columbia. But overall, the few negatives are outweighed by the overwheling positives. If you are a true beer hunter looking for a unique draft selection, a trip Frisco Taphouse and Brewery will be time well spent. read more

A 4 to 4.5 rating beer bar, with a consistently strong selection on tap, including a fair share of locals. The server we had knew his beer, and that's always a plus. A 3 rating place for food. Most of what my chickadee and I ordered was simply okay. She had a decent pulled pork sammy, but the fries - which she had to send back once since hers seemed like they were overlooked and sitting around too long - were subpar. The pretzel bites were just so-so, as was the chorizo queso. Other than her sandwich, the only thing I'd rate above average was the onion rings. The beer selection was impressive, but I was annoyed that there was no beer list with descriptions. They asked you to look the beer list up on their web site at the table, but even online there where not helpful description or prices. When ordering beers you are not familiar with it really important to know how much they cost. Luckily the waiter told us the bottle of beer that we were interested in was $25. It pretty important to know that you are getting ready to order a $25 beer. The food was horrible. I had the margherita pizza and the dough was raw in the middle. Even if it was properly cooked, it tasted like some plasticky cheese on garlic bread (not to mention horribly overpriced). My boyfriend had the chicken fajitas which were oddly seasoned. They tasted oddly sweet and left a horrible taste in your mouth. these where the worst fajitas either of us have ever had. We will not be returning again. Went there tonight. I wasn't expecting to like it at all, but I really did. To me, it's strangely tucked away in kind of a warehouse environment with really peculiar parking way in the back 40. Once inside it smacked of a very busy highway with lots of milling about, and people going everywhere. I thought ADHD nightmare at first, but once I settled down and observed the clientele a little better it became very comfortable. Noise level not as bad as I expected. Initially i thought it was another Green Turtle (yuck). Sam H the waiter was very welcoming and helpful. He told me it used to be Frisco Burrito just up the street in another shopping center/restaurant park behind Social Security. I remember eating at this first place , mostly lunch, and it was then just a place where you stepped up to the counter and ordered, then waited for them to call your number. It has now evolved successfully into a full service restaurant. I asked Sam for a Guinness like microbrew, and he brought me 2 samples to taste. I got the Blue Point which matched Guinness pretty well. My entree was the Barbacoa Platter. Excellent shredded steak served kind of like a fajita with sour cream, onions, lettuce, salsa and guacamole! Very very memorable meal. Good tastes all around, and tonight I was yearning for something Mexican anyway. Eating the shredded steak I could only imagine how wonderful it would be in a tamale, but no one seems to want to make a good tamale any more. That's probably too labor intensive for the kitchen. A slab of that sweetish Mexican cornbread might have been a nice addition. Overall it was an unexpected & pleasant experience! I'll be back! Why only 3 stars? I only give truly high end dining establishments like Stanford Grill 4 stars. In this case, 4 stars would be overkill. It's a solid 3! read more

I had a strange dinner here a few weeks ago. The food was good and the beer selection was wonderful so don't let those things hold you back at all. The atmosphere was the problem for me. I came for a late dinner on a Friday night so I wasn't surprised that it was busy. When we pulled up there was no parking and so we turned around to go somewhere else. One of the staff ran out to our car and asked if they could valet park it for us. This was a really nice gesture but it made me feel pushed into staying. I asked if there were tables available and he assured me that there were several. When we went inside the hostess said there was a 20 minute wait for a table but that we could sit and the bar. We couldn't leave easily since they had just taken our car. The only seats at the bar area were at a big high top table directly across from another couple. Staring at two strangers eating on a date was extremely awkward and kind of ruined all of our dinners (they didn't look happy about this either). Plus it was way too loud for conversation. When we went to get our car I noticed that the 'valet' had just parked our car on the street- I would have just done that for myself! I felt weird not tipping the guy but we didn't expect to need any cash (and didn't bring any). Food and service were good otherwise- I had the salad on special and my husband had a sandwich. The food menu is kind of limited but the beer selection is great. Beers were kind of pricey, but it's that kind of place. read more

5 stars for everything except atmosphere. i'll get the bad out of the way, and then rave about the rest. the layout is really weird and doesn't really work for the crowd that frisco's always seems to have. i do like the community tables adjacent to the bar, but the acoustics are terrible. when there's live music you can barely hear it, but there's enough of an echo that it's tough to have a conversation with the person next to you in the dining room even when it's not particularly crowded and raucous. i can't really tell what they're trying to accomplish with the atmosphere either... modern? pubby? antiquey? i don't get it. that being said, everything else is pretty much awesome. 99% of my experience is at the bar, and the bartenders are all wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable and funny. the "beer board" is fantastic. i generally pick out my own brew (and my boyfriend's) but when i don't feel up to it they always find me something that's spot on, and often something i might not have tried on my own. the food is great as well. i've had the risotto cakes, nachos, empanadas and... some other stuff i can't remember... and have never been disappointed. usually the beer fills me up so much i don't really have room for a burrito, but i've had stolen bites from others' plates. it's still american-style mexican, but that has never deterred me. i'd be here a little more often if the atmosphere was better, but that still hasn't stopped me from going here a couple times a month. :) read more

Saturday afternoon, around 530 pm, a friend and I entered the Frisco Tap & Brew House with open minds and thirsty throats. We proceed to sit at the long rectangular table across from the bar, as the bar area was full, but the tables weren't. Bar stools with no backs, OK, I can deal with that, but the wobbly chairs could've ended in disaster if I was tipsy, never mind the poor family seated right in my backside (about 2-3 feet behind us). I noted that we were the only couple of color in the house, but it's Columbia not DC, I'm used to that. However, it took quite a while for someone to acknowledge our presence. I did manage to score a menu from the couple seated a stool down from us. When a server finally noticed us, he was nice and kindly took our food and beverage orders. Our drinks were served promptly, his Grey Goose & cranberry was served in a 12 oz glass, not a rocks glass and contained mostly cran. My Captain & Sprite was also served in the same size glass, but thank goodness for spiced rum having a little bite. The 8 big screen TV's are a nice touch, we saw a little bit of golf, and a little bit of baseball, (4/8 of the TV's were turned to the same golf and MLB games) but NO NBA PLAYOFFS! So we asked if one of the eight TV's could be turned to TNT, the server looked doubtful and saild "I'll check". Out came our chicken quesadilla. Regulation size, we weren't hungry and just wanted a snack. The chicken was flavorful, but the salsa was a simple mixture of tomatoes and onions and maybe a splash of lime (where's the cilantro or any greenery at that??). The quesadilla was served on a bed of shredded iceberg with a scoop of sour cream on the side. Our chips were crispy and thick. Everything was fresh, but I wasn't impressed... As we finished our snack, and looked at our empty glasses, a gentleman comes by and I'm thinking great timing! "Sir, we'd like to sample this beer and that beer" (can't remember the names, we're not avid beer drinkers) his response was "you'll have to ask your server, are you finished with this?" About 10 minutes later we sit staring at baseball and golf, and a clean table... Finally our server appears, and we request the beers, he orders one, I ordered a So Co and lime on the rocks (don't judge me!). Once again, 12 oz. glass, mostly Rose's lime juice... He liked his beer though! Sad to say, I won't be returning to the Frisco. And I got ragged on for choosing a bad restaurant. read more

This place has totally refreshed their menu from the usual fried tex-mex bar fare to a full blown gastropub style modern fusion fares. The 'Manwich' made with pastrami and sriracha is outstanding. The combo is spicy and utterly delicious. The 'spicy' chorizo cheese dip is smoky chipotle with little heat, but very tasty. Combined with a humongous selection of craft beer on tap and this is a solid goto spot for HH or lunch. read more

I'm not a huge beer person to begin with but I do like food! If you're a beer lover this is the perfect place to join a beer club. The layout of this place is nice and open there is a lot of room. The bar is HUGE and I like the two long bars behind it for extra space. There are also plenty of tables to sit down at. The food was so good! I got the pastrami sandwich that came with fries. Perfect late night greasy meal. The granny smith apple cole slaw is the best! I always pass on cole slaw because it has too much mayo and so bland but the thin granny smith slices give it a sweet but tart taste and give it some good flavor! It went perfect with my sandwich. Went here to eat before a concert this past week. Let me tell you at first I was not impressed there was a massive huddle of staff around the host stand and they all just stared at us until we asked where we would be seated. Then it seemed as though they never left to tell a server we were there. The only thing that kept us in our seats while we waited was the promise of interesting beer selection. Thank goodness we stayed our server was FANTASTIC i wish i could remember her name. had a few tattoos and every thing she suggested was PURE GOLD. I had the Push Brown Ipa.. simply amazing. We split the Thai chili shrimp and hummus and loved both. The fajitas and mahi dinner were the huge and delicious. When you hear words like polenta and lemon grass you assume small portions so wrong! The crab cake was a little typical but still good. and for dessert the Beermissu was again delicious as per our servers amazing selling skills. lil request to the cooks ease up a little on the chocolate syrup it doesnt need it, it is amazing on its own. My girlfriend and I really like it here. We were inspired to write a review after she ordered a burger with very specific requirements (no onions, change the sauce, etc) and our waiter didn't hesitate at all when taking the order. We both needed help with selecting beers and he recommended what should be good ones. In the time I took me to write this far (I'm currently at Frisco) our beers came out and my girlfriend exclaimed that hers is exactly what she wanted. Mine is good too. Our food also just came out (10 mins after ordering) and it's great. Our waiter's name is Dave. The other wait staff here is good too. They never rush you. I need to eat now, peace! read more

They have made a cool restaurant with great beer tap selection, not just lots of no-name beers but good local beers on tap. In the end I spend close to $20 for a Miller Lite, some wings and chips and salsa, and that's during HH. Great beer selection, and very knowledgeable staff who can help guide you based on your preferences. Food is perfectly fine, nothing that'll knock your socks off. The beers are very expensive, which you don't really realize until you call in your tab. They don't post the prices anywhere, so you're made to either guess or have a routinely awkward conversation with your server about prices without the ability to compare the costs. As a result, I only come here on occasion, lest I spend my whole paycheck. read more

Hummus: served with olive oil, pine nuts and an elusive red pepper mix, it's the perfectly toasted pita that it's served with that really puts this appetizer on the map. Fish taco appetizer is also really great. The Frisco sandwich which is chicken breast on a bun with their sauce is also good. Can't personally vouch for the burgers but they look great and nobody I've ever been with has complained. Burritos are. Huge. Well made. And tasty. I ordered the spinach so I wasn't looking for huge seasonings. I did however get a taste of the steak and chicken and it was very good, I can imagine that burrito being amazing. Look for the specials. I've had the pumpkin soup there in October, very delicious. Good service. Amazing beer selection. Push is their own brew, the HoCo is a nice light ale. They are more than willing to oblige with samples for their extensive selection. No matter what you order, it's hard not seeing anyone pleased. Onion rings are about average though.
