So excited to find this spot! Another date night in Columbia and we gave Frisco Taphouse a try. So glad we did. There are two sections of the building. One side is the restaurant with a larger menu and quieter atmosphere. There is a large bar and a beautiful fish tank when you first go in. The stage area has black lighting so it is not very easy to take pictures of the items on the table haha On the other side is the Reckless Shepherd Brewery with a large stage for bands to play. We dropped in on a Tuesday night at 8:00pm and it was open mic night. There were two bands and three individuals that played both original music, and covers. One man played the electric guitar that took over the room! We absolutely enjoyed ourselves and the music. As for the food and beers, we ordered the Loyally Blonde, Mellow Howl IPA, Fundido Pizza and the Jumbo Crab Pretzel. The pretzel was smothered in creamy jumbo lump crab dip and had a beautiful crust on the bottom that held up and never got soggy. The pizza had very fresh Pico de gallo and chorizo with a great crispy yet fluffy crust. We really loved the food we got and would absolutely go back to try more. I have a feeling the weekends would be packed with bigger known bands so make sure you go in before the music gets going. read more

We had a friend visiting from MA and since we enjoyed lunch here the weekend before we thought we'd try dinner! There is plenty of space and they spread people out well. I got their scallop and Parmesan risotto special. It was really good! Although the scallops a bit small. R got the prime rib, which was good but would have been easier to deal with if it came on a real plate and wasn't placed on top of the mashed potatoes. Our friend got the tap house chicken sandwich and really enjoyed it. Although stated on the menu we later realized, our waiter asked her if she wanted fries, onion rings, risotto or a side salad and she chose the salad. We were just surprised at the charge on the check with the way it was presented by the waiter. We had to wait about 20 minutes after our food and drink cups were cleared before we could ask for our check. Thank goodness you can pay with the QR code because we wanted to leave. I really wanted to like this place as a new option for brunch but after two visits it's probably coming off that list. First visit chicken and waffles. The chicken was extra extra crispy as in overcooked and seemed to be more batter than chicken. Toast was served dry and we had to ask for butter. They don't offer jelly. Second visit Cajun breakfast skillet had no noticeable chorizo but was loaded with potatoes. So many that I just got tired of eating them. Again, our bread choice was served dry and we had to ask for butter. Would it be so difficult to just add it to the plate in the kitchen? If I could give it less than a 1 star review, I would. The only reedeming quality was the beer. Which by the way took over 20 minutes to come after ordering. The waitress was kind but extremely inattentive. She seemed to only have 2 other tables and we had to continuously flag her down. They had a buffalo dip and chips which we ordered and it was the color and consistency of a queso???? (It tasted so weird my friend and I tried 3 chips of it and still couldn't tell what it was/mistakenly sent out as). When the waitress FINALLY came back we mentioned we couldn't really tell what it was and had to ask for hot sauce to make it into a buffalo dip. The ceaser salad my friend got the dressing tasted extremely off. I got the Cuban and it seemed like deli meat and the bottom was extremely soggy. Potato latkes were the only thing we actually ate. We were there for over 2 hours (it wasn't busy at all there were countless staff just standing around), and we still had to flag the woman down for the check. Looking around it seemed her two other tables were having a lot of issues as well. This is extremely upsetting as I usually will not complain or say anything unless it's extremely bad. All around absolutely horrible experience. I've had less happen at common chain restaurants and they immediately have offered to comp the meal, etc. We were hungry and ordered a lot so it was really disappointing. The atmosphere is great and they have two sides; one more quiet side that's great for a date where you can chat easily and a more club looking side with games. The food was nice, Latkes a bit fried too hard, the Shepards Pie pretty darn good, but the Jambalaya was fantastic. Really, really good. We were in the back room, so the esthetic was a bit industrial. Not bad, but "warehousey." I would say it was more of a bar with a restaurant than a restaurant with a bar.... My opinion fixed by the terrible, incongruous and totally dining experience ruining techno music, thumping from one of the speakers we were unfortunate enough to be sitting directly beneath. I checked with Jane our waitress, if this place was more about the bar than the restaurant, hence the techno. She pointed out the bartender, who I assume wasn't eating, was a techno fan. As she also pointed out that she was younger than me and that perhaps but for my age, that the incessant droning of machine generated club music, wasn't unappetizing. In any case, Jane was the true hero of the evening. She took action, after I may have become a bit emphatic, and engineered a musical selection not pulled directly from Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange." Yeah, so she is younger and maybe I also don't want to sit beneath a really loud speaker playing dance music in a restaurant. But, this is why there is Coke and Pepsi, chocolate and vanilla. Not everyone has to like the same thing. Jane was excellent, food really good, prices very reasonable, and the music was terrible. All this from our electrician Chad's recommendation. The soup was ridiculously salty, I got the shrimp as a mediocre substitute (salty breading) The whipped feta was ok, not whipped enough for my taste, huge chunks. My lamb lollipops was still alive and kicking (medium rare was beyond rare!)re-fired! But the glaze reduced down to ...... dare I say it...... Salty Gravy glued to a shingle!!! The salmon and crab cake was delicious. and then there is dessert...... the bread pudding was excellent (wish the sauce was in a container) as we got it to go..... Then the chocolate mousse ..... grainy, more like wet pudding and the ice cream is cheap and generic this is definitely not at the price point. It is a cavernous restaurant and bar, seemed clean and tidy, until.... The men's room didn't have hand soap in the dispenser there is fuzzy stuff growing on the intake vent above the handicapped stall. the hallway to the restroom had a sticky spot that tried to take my shoe. All of this and there was maybe 5 tables and a few people at the bar. It was a ghost town on the "fun" bar area. Although we tipped 20% Our server disappeared more than a few times, them meal them way longer that'd it should have , even with the other problems. Yes we got a visit from the manager for the lamb (baaaaaaaaa) issue. Nothing subtracted from the check or maybe a gift card to try them again in the future. Me and two friends came for brunch today. It was pretty busy and seemed understaffed. The visit started with our drinks. My friends ordered the Irish Iced coffee which contains only cold brew and cold coffee yet they received a hot coffee. I ordered the Moroccan coffee which tasted like straight, hot rum. For food, we ordered the powerhouse burrito with grits, which they informed us would also come with roasted potatoes; the chicken and waffles; and a Philly cheese steak (gluten free) with a side of fries. When the food came, we only received the burrito and sandwich. The burrito did not have roasted potatoes and the sandwich had a side of veggies, which was not the choice I made. When I asked for the side of fries, they said they would bring it but it never came. We were still waiting for the chicken and waffles and we finally found our server, who had not come to check on us, so we asked where his meal was since it had been a while. He said it would be coming soon and then shared it was delivered to the wrong table. To fix this, he said he would be voiding it from the check. After waiting a while longer, we asked for the chicken and waffles to go. When they brought it out in the bag, he asked if I also wanted a side of fries to go, which I declined. When we asked for the check, he came back with the scanner to scan our card, without providing us with a check. After paying, they brought the receipt (by our request). We found the chicken and waffles had NOT been voided and we had been charged extra for the veggies, despite the fact that we didn't order the veggies and never received the fries that came with the meal. While the burrito and cheesesteak were good, the service needs a lot of improvement before we would come back. read more

We came to the new location after going to original many times over the years and it's definitely not the same. We were looking forward to coming back once it reopened. The prior location had a chef with imagination but now many of those items we enjoyed are no longer on the menu. The chicken sandwich I had was over cooked and needed salt. The onion rings were great and tasty and plentiful at the old location but now I received four and it was over procedure. Our server was pleasant but made us feel like we were an annoyance after we opted not to order alcohol. When the food came we had to request utensils and napkins. The worst issue was a soda was refilled, which we didn't request and I was billed for two drinks each. The server disappeared so I couldn't get clarification on free refills which the prior location offered. The interior is boring and we missed the artwork the old location provided. We had visited the other side of the building prior but left when no one came to our table or explained the process to order food. I can only speak to the food i got delivered from Frisco and it was pretty good. I happened to notice on FB that they were advertising a birria weekend. Birria tacos, cheesesteaks, nachos, burritos. Having not sampled it yet, I got excited to try it out. Also ordered potato latkes cos why not? :p Food arrived packed well. Birria tacos came with consommé and it was delicious even warmed up after a delivery. The consommé really does make the tacos. The potato latkes came with sour cream and I had applesauce at home so that also made for a delicious meal, if eclectic between the two very different items we ordered. Liked the sleek decor and open ambience. They had 3 TVs at the bar to catch all the Sunday football games. It wasn't crowded as we were there between lunch and dinner. Very friendly bar tender/server. The beers we tried were good - the option for a beer flight was not available though. The crab dip appetizer I ordered was ok and I liked the presentation - not very crabby flavored though and a bit spicy. But the BEST was the campfire brownie dessert ... homemade brownie, vanilla ice cream, toasted marshmallow and a delicious chocolate drizzle ... not overly sweet and just perfect jn every way! Recently, I've been having this insatiable craving for a cheesesteak. I've lived in Maryland for 6 years now and I still have yet to find a cheesesteak that is the real deal. I've been following Frisco Taphouse on social media and realized that they've been having these weekly pop ups for different items that typically aren't on the menu. Well today was my lucky day! Today (Friday) was their cheesesteak day. They have about 5-6 different types of cheesesteaks to choose from. I ended up getting the Dobbin Road cheesesteak which included provolone, sauteed onions, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. It was cheesy. It was drippy. It was perfect...at least for now. I ordered my food to go by telephone. They provide you with several options so you can make the experience as contactless as you want. I was given the option to pay over the phone or at the restaurant. I was also given the option of curbside service or coming into the restaurant. Frisco Taphouse is currently open for indoor and outdoor dining. The tables and barstools appear to be socially distanced and they have clear plastic shields up between some of the seats. The servers who assisted me provided solid customer service and I had an overall good experience. read more

Came here with another couple for an early dinner on a Sunday. It wasn't busy around 4pm. I enjoyed the crab cake but it wasn't a typical MD style cake and I added old bay to mine. Fries are good, peanut oil style. The sushi burrito was enjoyed by my spouse but it seemed like it should have had something on the side with it like a small salad or pickled cabbage like what came with the ribs meal. The ribs were reportedly tender, the pasta was pretty good and filling per my friends. I had their house Blonde beer and it was very good! We all liked our drinks--the Porter was tasty as well. The lights above were pretty cool and massive. There was a band playing in the attached brewery side. Overall I thought it was a nice meal. I'm pescatarian so options were a little slim. The option for a mushroom burger was nice.... but I want a veggie or impossible burger option to replace any of the burger offerings with a side! read more

Super relaxed and welcoming, great suggestions, super helpful. 10/10z I ordered the Beer Cheese Wiz cheesesteak (added lettuce), and asked for a bit of the caper aioli on the side to go with my fries. I gave the new location two tries and after everything my family and I have decided we unfortunately won't be back again. When I moved down to MD in 2015 Frisco was one of the first places I found that was always fun to come get a good beer and some decent food. They always had something neat and new on the taplist and a lot of other very beer-savvy people liked to visit so it was a great place to sample different styles and try things out. It was always on the more corporate end of the spectrum and less homey than other bars but to a degree that I could accept. I've easily visited Frisco dozens of times over the years. The new location is honestly a complete mess and though I'm generally pretty patient and forgiving it is irksome enough to me that I don't feel like I want to return. The food is no longer good and consistent. The prices are way up and portion sizes are tiny. Nothing is even remotely close to as good as it was at the old location. The burgers were overcooked, dry and minescule for the price. The added onion rings were an extra $4, for which I got a total of 5 onion rings. Our potato pancakes were hard, burned and cold. I think more than anything, though, the awful service is what gets me. We ordered beers tonight, waited 20 minutes, had to flag someone down who poured them for us, and then the beers we got were absolutely not what we had asked for. I told our server this and she basically told me I didn't know what I was talking about. I have had thousands of unique beers around the world over the years. I know with absolute certainty we didn't get what we asked for this time. Another server came by, we had the same conversation, and he again told us that we were wrong. I had actually had the same beer a week before and was absolutely sure they were wrong. They just told us we didn't know what we were talking about. It takes nothing for them to correct mistakes like this, but they've lost a long time loyal customer because they couldn't do so. Anyway, do yourself a favor and skip the new Frisco and go somewhere with better food like Rathskeller if you have to spend your hard earned cash. Great low-key place for happy hour. Serves local beer (Jailhouse) and its own house craft beer. Food menu is mostly bar foods (like pretzel, chips and wings), sandwiches and pizzas though they offer ribs and jambalaya as well. Most people I go with choose the wings or sandwiches. I had the Vietnamese Ciabatta, which was fine. Had too much meat in it for my liking, so I might go with the Corn-Dusted Chicken Sandwich next time. This most recent visit was to the restaurant/sit down side. The hosts couldn't answer our questions. They didn't seem to care. There was plenty of seating but we directed ALL the way to the back where there was a room divider in place. Clearly this section was closed off for a reason but we were sat in that area. The whole vibe felt off. We walked past numerous empty tables and other patrons before we directed into this area. We were being discriminated as we were the only brown people in the establishment. Needless to say, we left immediately. No one cared to asked us why we were leaving or what happened. That is my last time coming to this establishment. read more

We had extremely mixed feelings during our visit for lunch yesterday. Being a big fan of the old location, I must say that I was disappointed in my first visit to this location. The good: -Our food was pretty good -They have a good beer selection The not so good: -The interior/atmosphere is cold, sterile and uninviting -The service was lackluster and uneven -The portion sizes are strange, we literally both received 4 medium sized onion rings with our sandwiches, it looked like someone's leftovers on a 1/2 empty plate. -Their bourbon prices are ridiculous. Yes they have a good selection of premium bottles (Stagg, WLW, Pappy, etc) but their prices are at least 2x that of other establishments in Columbia Really wanted to love this new spot, but probably won't be back for awhile unless they remedy some of their issues. Frisco, you've lost that lovin' feeling! I've been a huge fan of Frisco since it was Frisco Burrito in the Dobbin Rd strip mall. Awesome burritos and tacos! Frisco Taphouse upped the ante with an awesome beer selection and great food. Everything on the menu was fantastic. The servers were always quick and energetic. I just visited the new location on McGaw Rd and it's a mess. The food was okay, but the service was terrible. The server had to constantly check with the kitchen to see if menu items were available. Prices are really high. Especially for drinks. There were lots of servers just standing around since there were only a handful of customers. I guess everyone else has already figured out this is not the place to go for food or drink. I might try the bar next door, but I'm done with the restaurant. Frisco grew to be too big and got too stupid. The formula that worked no longer adds up. There are far better options a short walk away. read more

How have I never left a review for this place?! Hubby and I fell in love with Frisco when it was a small tex-mex style only with the best beer selection around. When they grew their location 10+years ago their menu expanded equally. The beer is always good, service is solid, and we've each had a number of food items from across the menu...I can't remember ever being dissatisfied. Went to a work happy hour for some drinks and food. Wide variety of beer options, with great craft beers. Prices were not listed for the beer so I have no idea how much each were. Good prices were very reasonable. We got some appetizers to split, I tried the fried pickles and pretzel which both were good. My burger had an interesting sauce on it that reminded me of Taco Bell. My girlfriend was able to get alcohol seltzers and ciders along with a gluten-free burger. I would definitely return for the variety of beers and appetizers. read more

Been coming here since shortly after they opened as Frisco Burrito. Well, that run is over. I'm sure the idea was great...but. As other reviewers commented, serving sizes are small (the burger and salad are not enough to fill my daughter). The fundito pizza was good. Pita with whipped feta was nothing to write home for. 18$ for a small cheese steak, $16.5 for a child's size burger puck and side salad. Sweet tea was ordered and raspberry tea served. It took two wait staff and a manager to come back and admit they didn't know what they served, but figured it to be raspberry. Glad we didn't have allergies. The app to order was miserable to use and failed repeatedly. The wonderful beer list that once existed has been replaced by their beer (which was good) and a few other local brews. There are much better places to go if all you need is local beer. On a good note (which earned them a star) is the staff were very nice and as helpful as they could be. In the end we left and went to pub dog to get food to fill us up and have a relaxing evening. Unfortunately, we probably won't be back. read more

I was fortunate enough to be invited to the soft opening of the new Frisco Taphouse location (McGaw Road behind Wegmans) and it did not disappoint! The restaurant is split into two parts: one side is a brewery pub/entertainment area (with self ordering) and the other side where I dined it a full service restaurant with a more adequate bar space. The restaurant inhabits the space previously occupied by a furniture store the mega high ceiling allow for the lightning to adequately light the full space but be far high enough to not upset your eyes. The decor is comforting and modern with almost an elevated bowling alley feel. I started out my night with a Diet Coke ( I am not much of a drinker) my two other guests did get a chance to try some of the alcohol. One person had the house Chardonnay and it was a great change of pace from the cheap barefoot or overused Kendall Jackson that every local places uses. My other guest had a house margarita, the color popped like a freshly cracked glow stick on a July evening. A salted rim, fresh like juice, a hint of agave, triple sec, and the perfect silver tequila gave the drink a smooth and fresh feel. Food wise we opted to start with the Tuna Poke Stack. Tuna 3 ways, a blend of some sweet and some heat this dish is a great opener especially if you're opting for a heavier main course. Don't worry guys an additional wonton chip is coming to the dish! For our entrees we had the portobello mushroom Sandwich, the Shepherd's pie, and the truffle mushroom risotto. The sandwich was beautiful and allow the mushroom to really shine as it is the star of the dish. Flavorful and the opposite of dry the sandwich was delicious. The pesto aioli gives the sandwich compliments the mushroom perfectly and stops the garlic and thyme from overpowering anything. You don't need to be vegetarian to enjoy this sandwich. The shepherd's pie was a nice spin on an old classic that you don't often see outside of your old school Irish pub. This "pie" features a delicious ground waygu beef and a lamb to balance. Carrots, onions, corn and smooth Demi glaze bring the pie flavors together and have you scooping for bite after bite. The potatoes fill you up and cheese leaves a glistening top to the dish. Just don't grab the cast iron skillet! Last but certainly not least the truffle mushroom risotto! I was not sure if I wanted to go this route at a place known more for "bar food" but this is a new Frisco! The risotto was perfection, I am still thinking about it now hours later. Risotto is one of the most difficult dishes for even an accomplished chef to master as it all comes down the consistency of the risotto. The chef tonight did not struggle, this dish soared above any risotto I've had in the last few years. I chose to add shrimp on the side and toss them in to not overpower the natural seasoning and flavor profile of the shrimp (this would be my recommendation to you as well). The exact right amount of truffle oil, the three different mushroom (all perfectly cooked), the light Parmesan and the small crispy fried shallots bring the whole plate together in a way that you'd expect to be paying $40+ for. I am blown away by my experience at Frisco. I will be back and I will be telling anyone that I come into contact with to go ASAP. Howard county has so many options for food these days and this place just moved to top of my list. Coworkers and I came here for lunch. There was plenty of parking and the seating was easy. My biggest issue with Frisco was that there were so many great options on the menu. It took me a while to choose between the Veggie Panini, Lamb Kafta Pita Sliders, and fire grilled wings. I went with the Lamb Sliders. They are grilled spicy lamb burgers with garlic and chilis, served on warm naan with tsatziki. A+++++. The meat was juicy, tender, nicely flavored, and not overly spiced. The naan as the buns were perfectly toasted. The three sliders were like gyros times a thousand. Honestly, I'm not sure that I will go to any other place for ground lamb. read more

Came here on a Sat. Evening. Host was not welcoming or friendly however the server made up for it. He was very courteous to go over every item on the menu and made drink recommendations. The wings were great. Calamari was good, The regular Burger was eh, pass and try a different burger. margarita pizza the toppings fell of the dough. Came here after visiting a local brewery. I've eaten at the location in Waugh Chapel a long time ago. It was ok but I wasn't a beer fan then. From a beer perspective, it's an overwhelming amount of options which is good. I like sours and there were several to choose from which can be rare. For food, we just went with a bunch of apps. It was...ok. I wouldn't say anything was particularly wonderful. Everything was hot and tasty but nothing elevated. That's probably not their thing though. We could have had better/different options elsewhere. I can have nachos and tex mex egg rolls at lots of places. Given all the beer options, a higher caliber of food would be expected. We decided to have dinner here on a Friday night. We waited maybe ten minutes max before we were seated. Very busy and the ambiance was casual. We ordered the crab dip appetizer, BLT with onion rings and cheesesteak with fries. Everything was delicious, hot and fresh. The cheesesteak had great flavor. 4 stars because the waitress could have been more attentive to our table. read more

We were feeling snacky and thirsty today, so we stopped by Frisco for drinks and appetizers. Josh C. was our server and he was awesome- friendly, helpful, and very polite. The drinks were great. We had the bartender's selection, which was their spin on a French 75. Delicious. For apps, we had the crab dip (okay), the tomato burrata (delicious), and the whipped feta (amazing!). I definitely plan to come back for a full meal at some point. read more
