This place doesn't look like much, but it's my favorite place for a $10 meal that I can usually split between two meals. I usually go to #2 (couldn't find them on Yelp but it'll pop up on the maps) just because it's less busy and so I get more of the selections I want. You do have to drive around for street parking depending on the time of day. Looove la leonesa when I'm craving fritanga, which is pretty much always. It's come to be my go-to because of the delicious quality and affordable prices. Standard system where you order at the counter and are given scoops of premade food, including classics like pinto, maduros, queso frito, etc. Even as a vegeterian there are plenty of options for me and I always leave stuffed. The food almost always tastes fresh despite sitting in warmers. If it isn't super fresh, they'll heat it up for you. Portion sizes are generous and the line moves quickly. The main selling point here for me is the queso frito, which is the best I've had in Miami. Moist and not at all rubbery, which can be pretty common for this food. Just come eat here. As a Nicaraguan who has ventured into various locations looking for a good carne asada meal, this one was disappointing. Apart from the tight space and not so great location, the price at this place does not reflect at all the quality and quantity. The carne asada could've been juicer and softer. The gallo-pinto was mid--I couldn't figure out if it was cooked too long or undercooked. The tajadas felt stale and old. The queso frito was okay. Finally, the only thing that felt more redeeming was the ensalada, but you have to try really hard to mess that up. Finally, the service felt a little rushed which causes miscommunication and some of the employees seemed a little frustrated. I don't know if that's how the business usually or it's just one of those days (which is understandable). I didn't try any other food so I can only speak for the meal I had. read more

IMO one of the best fritangas I've had, the food here is consistently good. My usual go-to is the carne asada, gallo pinto, sweet plantains, and of course the fried cheese which is better than any other place I've been to hands down. This has to be in my opinion, the best fritanga I've gone to in Miami. The food is always fresh, very authentic, moderately priced and all being serviced by nice and respectful personnel. The Gallo Pinto is real good..not as good as my mom's, but high up there! I personally enjoy a nice size Moronga, which is a Nica blood-sausage; minus the casing, tortilla and ensalada de repollo. So dissappointed, drove 30 min to get from nica food when i got there they were out of the carne asada and the salad, what a i came to eat. I had to ask 4 different people to find out if more was coming out. Waited 20 min for the meat to be cooked. Was expecting it to be great since its fresh it magically tasted old. To be honest i only come here for the grilled chicken because it is really good and i don't really like the fritanga steak.. i know most would disagree. This is the best fritanga I've ever had. I so badly needed a place like this in Miami and I'm glad that i could finally find it. La comida súper rica and the staff so friendly, charming and home welcoming. I had my favorite rice with beans, sweet plantains and the amazingly delicious meat with Gallo Pinto. The hidden gem at the bottom of the lake you thought you'd never find. This is GOOD food. Simply delicious. I've been grabbing dinner here once a week for the past 2 months and will continue to do so even though it's so out of the way. On Saturday night I bought about three plates of carne asada. Once I opened the plate something wasn't right I tasted the rice it was extremely dry! The meat was raw/uncooked super dry and hard to bite on. The plantains were dry. The whole three plates were dry... ever since that day I've been sick! I've been vomiting and having stomach ache. Don't go here! The food is probably old and not even cooked well. Please go to another nica please it's utterly disgusting and shouldn't be allowed to be opened. Let's start with the fact that there is almost no room inside this place. Which is not to uncommon here in Miami. However we came on a Thursday around 1pm. They were extremely busy. There was nowhere to stand and everyone is bumping into each other trying to get around. The wait was insane. We waited for a very long time to get our food. About 20 mins just in line to order and about 30 mins before we got our food. While standing there for what felt like hours. I noticed the staff was not as sanitary as I would have hoped for. I did not see anyone wash their hands once. They handled cash, touched the register, in and out of the coolers, and touched several utensils without ever washing their hands or putting on gloves. In an area with a ton of fritanga places it's hard to pick favorites. But La Leonesa holds its own. The food was delicious. Gallo pinto, queso frito, empanada de maduro, ensalada de repollo, quesillo, cacao, picos, and a ton of meat dishes for non-vegetarians. The small space is cozy and kinda helps keep it more relaxed than pinolandia. The staff was friendly, but it'll be easier to order if you know Spanish, and much much more so if you are familiar with Nicaraguan food. They have a very good stock of Nicaraguan treats (cheeses, sweet breads, pinolio, cebollitas, etc..) that any nica would be happy to take home.
