Jen saved our family! We were super stressed trying to find a school that met the needs of our 2e student. Before Jen we had toured close to 20 schools, been politely asked to leave three schools and been told by two public charter schools they could not meet his needs. We were especially disappointed by the GT public school's inability to follow his IEP, ALP or consistently enforce any of the accommodations our student was legally entitled to but didn't have the energy to continue to fight the Bureaucracy. After consulting a private psychologist for an independent evaluation we were homeschooling until we could find an appropriate placement. Ricks Center for the GT suggested we contact Jen for help. We had a truly awful experience dealing with Jen. She was extremely energetic and claimed to be an expert in Denver-area schools during our consultation phone call, but this was not what we experienced after paying for her services. First, we were asked to pay upfront (in retrospect, this was probably a red flag) for her services, which we did. Once she had received our payment, her demeanor towards our child and helping us navigate him to a better fit of a school changed exponentially. She did provide us with 4 schools where she thought "his people were." But, then proceeded to tell us that he would never be able to transfer to another school and if we chose to apply to those schools, we would need to sign a document so we didn't ruin her acceptance rate numbers. Her advice was to keep our second grader in the school he was currently at ("because at least he has friends there") and to "let college be his oyster." Needless to say, I couldn't believe I paid for this. I did reach out to the schools for tours for the upcoming admissions season and was informed by an admissions person at one school that they didn't even offer the services she specifically said were a reason why the school was a great fit for our family (strong stem program, after school gifted program and high rate of matriculation to the private high schools near us)-so I didn't even pay for a minimum of accurate school information/school matches for our son. I found Jen to be extremely unprofessional. When I reached out to inform her of our discontent which her knowledge of the schools and our experience with her, she stated that the deposit is non-refundable, but she would give us a fraction of the money back. read more

Jen is an amazing educator! I took my son to see her over the Spring and Summer when DPS dropped the ball and her hard work with my son ensured he didn't fall behind. I also found Jen to be very flexible and reasonably priced. She is super-communicative and I know I have found an incredible resource whenever I need help closing the gaps where DPS fails. read more

We found the Denver school choice process so overwhelming and we needed help. Our family turned to Jen at Front Range Education Consulting two years ago when our daughter was entering Kindergarten. Jen has consulted our family several times now and continues to hit the ball out of the park. She is a professional and has her ear to the educational ground in all respects, while also managing to be fun, funny, a straight-shooter, and simply an all-around joy to work with. Our journey with Jen started several years ago when we were seeking a good school fit for our younger child, who has several social-emotional and learning challenges and is on an IEP. During the course of our initial consultation, we decided to have Jen work with our older child as well, who happens to be on the other end of the educational spectrum. We couldn't have been more pleased with the results--for BOTH of our very different children. Jen identified the needs of our older, gifted child, which we hadn't even had our arms around yet, and was able to help us sort through the ridiculous number of factors one has to weigh when educating an challenged child. Moreover, she recognized the exceptionality, the light, and the promise in both of them. A few things I appreciate about Jen in particular: (1) She will not waste your time. Who has time to spare? As mentioned, she's a straight-shooter, is supremely honest, and will tell it like it is. Too few people operate this way these days. I can't handle BS and she will not give it. (2) Despite the foregoing, she manages to be caring, kind and empathetic. She's a parent, too. She gets the stress and emotional toll. (3) She is intimately familiar with Denver metro schools and stays up-to-date on them. (4) She has experience in the classroom as an educator--among other benefits, this allows her to see behind the smoke and mirrors (or cracks and dust) to identify exceptional schools--vs. those that just happen to look (or not look) the part. (5) She listens. She understood and attended to our values and goals and didn't try to push us to consider options that were not feasible for us based on those values, $ or location. (6) I felt like she really got to know the kids. That's worth a million bucks. read more

My wife and I were trying to find the right place for our 3 year old where he would thrive and we, as a 2 mom family, would feel welcome. I've met with Jen several times, and each time, she demonstrated that she understood our needs, she understood our son's learning style and interests, and most importantly, she understood the "lay of the land" of the myriad of preschool options that would be a solid match for our little guy. In planning our Chicago to Colorado move I was a bit overwhelmed by making the right neighborhood and school choice for our two boys. I was leaving a GREAT Montessori in Chicago, and worried I wouldn't find an equivalent, but I was very wrong. Jen has you complete a questionnaire about your family, your lifestyle desires, your personalities, and your children, and then she uses that information to prep for a very detailed conference call with you, where she literally walks you through the top schools that match your family and your kid's. She narrowed it down to 6. We took her information, and flew out to tour the neighborhoods and the schools that she had narrowed down for us. Such an amazing and seamless experience. We were moving back to CO after 4 years living abroad. We had no idea where/how to begin our search for schools. When we left the US (4 years prior), our oldest had just finished Kindergarten and now we were coming back with 3 boys all school aged. Jen spent over 2 hours getting to know us, our boys and our educational goals. Because Jen visits the schools personally, has contacts at the schools, and has taught in schools herself, she really has the 'inside scoop' about all the intangibles for each location. You can't get that kind of info from their websites. With the help of Jen, we were able to get all 3 of our boys into a Bilingual School (they had all learned Spanish living in Mexico) that we didn't even know existed. That 1st year would be 5th grade for our oldest and therefore, we'd come back to Jen later in the year for middle school help. After knowing how amazing and helpful Jen was, there was no way we were going to decide on a perfect middle school without her! We've kept in touch with Jen and will be looking for her help for middle school for our middle son and high school for our oldest as we move to a new Denver location.
