Volunteers are horrible at getting back to potential adopters. Lack of communication doesn't get dogs adopted. Go elsewhere!

WE ARE SO FURIOUS!! AN ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE SHELTER. DO NOT RESCUE FROM HERE…read more My mom had applied to adopt a cat from this place over two weeks ago. The director said the cat she was interested in wasn't up for adoption yet and she would have to wait. After many days of my mom calling and talking to the lady she basically said that the cat was already hers she just had to wait for him to be available. Today my mom called the shelter again and the director said THAT THEY GAVE THE CAT AWAY!!!! my mom was so devastated. We just lost our family dog and she was so excited and looking forward to getting a new cat. The director said it was because they had heard my mom say she was going to make it an outdoor cat, WHICH IS COMPLETELY FALSE. first, my mom would never do that. She specifically wants a cuddly indoor kitty as a companion, second the shelter specifically said she cant have an outdoor cat and my mom agreed with that part of the contract. It makes absolutely no sense. I could tell from the very beginning something was off about this rescue and I was right. I'm not sure what they're doing over there but whatever it is it's not good. We will probably be getting in contact with a lawyer. DO NOT ADOPT FROM HERE!!!

Well, we did change his name, though…read more Max to Maxx to honor the dog named for the meeting room we met in.;-) And he just requested we add another name so he is MISO HAPPY. Because he is. I am, too. ;) Room 19 on 4/19, Patriots' Day. Ortensio as the male version of Ortensia, the hyacinth flower name from the Humane Colorado woman who is from Barcelona. Ortensia orchestrated my having first visit with Maxx. The couple who signed in before me as I was negotiating finding a shoe substitute (it took me awhile) kindly said "He's yours." How right they were. How right was Ortensia. And Miso for the soup I was to deliver but the friend was too sick so I went to the Humane Society instead. Six year old Maxx entered the room. After 5 days of yapping at visitors he quietly sat at my feet for a bit ....and then jumped into my arms and fell asleep as I patted him. With a calm reserve. Welcome home, Maxx! You are safe and well loved. Thank you Ortensia, Jason, the couple, and everyone at Humane Colorado. Maxx says hey and thank you!

We adopted our Boston Terrier, Stella, from the Buddy Center in Castle Rock back in Nov 2012 as a 11month old. She is now 13! We got so lucky as someone else was visiting her when we arrived. Back then you could put a wish list if a breed online and would be contacted if one came in to one of the shelters. Not anymore but we loved that feature. We found a stray Boston Terrier puppy a few years ago and took her to DDFL to see if so anyone lost a pet and since she bonded with us and our other Boston overnight, we asked them please please contact us if no one claims her, and a week or two later we were contacted and then had to adopt her. She is now called Beans and is about 4 years old. We sadly had to put down our 11 year old Bassethound a year prior to adopting our Beans, and took him to DDFL. The hardest thing ever to do, and he was my first pet. They were great with us, let us take a lot of time to say goodbyes. I only wish we were allowed back during the euthanasia, I really didn't like just sending him off like that. They do offer you ashes and paw prints after as well which was very nice.

We adopted two kittens from this place and we asked them over and over again to give us healthy…read morecats because we had older kitty's at home and didn't want them to get sick but they promised us that the cats we adopted were healthy, come to find out both kittens were still sick with giardia and some sort of cat shelter sickness they passed it on to our other cats at home. We are still caring for the two kittens and love them dearly but we would have loved if they could have been tested better and handled more properly.---- This review was back when we first got our bonded pair of kittens it's been sitting in my drafts forever, I decided to post it now bc it took a lot of money to get the kittens better not just that ALL of my cats better now. I still have the kittens they are better than ever and have the best personalities but I will never be returning to this place just bc of what I said I still have older cats at home and they should have been sure the kittens were healthy before sending them out but they didn't. I don't respect this place at all, They keep sending my mother emails to send in photos of the cats but that will never happen, first off you gave us two unhealthy kitties it's not the cats fault it's yours, be better at managing the cats and getting rid of their sicknesses. I won't be sending you guys any photos because yall don't deserve them first off they are mine now and I take care of them unlike yall did when you had them, they are now in a safe and loving home. The process was smooth and staff was friendly. Fast forward to 2024 and we have come back here for vet care due to their support and prices. The previous vet clinic we attended spoke to us like we should know the medical lingo and not the best patience when we had questions. If your family is ready to add some fur love, I'd recommend Maxfund! Other notes: There is plenty of street parking near the shelter and good sidewalks for a before or after appt stroll. Bring your cat in their mobile home and dogs need to be leashed upon entering. Have a PAW-some day!

I saw other cats on the website that had special needs, and felt more calm about her going to that shelter. My friend gave all the vet records and full disclosure about her health issues, too. Well, it turns out that within ONE month, they decided to euthanize her!! As my friend said, if I had known they were going to do that, I would have preferred to either find a different shelter or make other efforts to re-home her. At the very least, if we had decided that "putting her down" was in her best interest, I would have wanted to be present for her last moments.
