I tried to find this place, but there's no address just a zip code and no phone number.how are we to come look at dogs ? Everything seems to be on line.not everyone like to use a stupid computer. If I was to adopt a dog I would want come interact with them,I tried filling out this application several times,it just cuts me off or says something isn't done correctly. I'll just get me a dog from a breeder ,everyone suggest I should adopt a pet but it's way to much of a hassle. I worked with Front Range German Shepherd Dog Rescue to adopt a mixed breed dog. Diane Sweet called me right away to determine exactly we were looking for and out setup to provide a good forever home. After our initial call I applied, and we were approved. I appreciate the care and attention to ensure our family and the dear rescue dog were a good match. We brought our dog to meet our potential family member, along with his excellent Foster mom. The two dogs meshed very well. And, the adoption was sealed. I cannot tell you how happy my husband and I are with our new furry son. He is the best. He was raised with dogs and cats, discussed during our interview process. Our cats are not bothered at all by their new furry brother. I read a review from Casey below and it's spot on! U might think it's silly to say a rescue place is too "political," but it's as good a word as any. The woman in charge, Diane, is simply ridiculous. We actually rescued 1 of their dogs before. They know that a dog in need of a home went to a really good one with very experienced gsd owners. We've now raised 4 of them and when each one passed, they were among the most loved and spoiled dogs on the planet. So when we said, "We think they do better in pairs so they have a friend/sibling and we'd like to get another one," we didn't expect any problems. So we picked a dog they had listed as a gsd (it wasn't) and the people fostering her brought her over. Immediately bitching that they had to drive a long way to do it. One of the first things they said. Hey man, we would HAPPILY have driven to u but that's not how they like doing this so we weren't given that option. I'm not being dramatic when i say this couple was among the most arrogant and annoying two people we'd met in a long time. From the moment they stepped into our living room, OUR living room, they started bossing us around and started this REALLY weird bragging about how great they are at fostering dogs and she's the best dog trainer in the world, no one in the world knows as much about training shepherds as her, she once won a Nobel prize for dog training, blah blah blah. No big deal - so they're douchebags. We're not adopting them, we're adopting the dog. Except she and our new rescue didn't really hit it off. At all. So we said we'd like to look at another one. Well, here's where the second round of drama starts. I said all this to Diane, who was clearly irked we didn't take the dog, and apologized but asked - "Don't u want to find a good fit? I wasn't under the impression u insist we take the first dog we look at?!" And she said, "Well, we just thought u were going to take her, that's what ur email said." And she repeated that enough, i actually had to pull it up and read back to her the email where my exact words were, "We'd love to meet her and you know us - if she gets along with Bodhi, we'll probably take her." Probably i said. But the dogs didn't like each other, what do u want me to do?? Well, it turns out this couple made some stuff up about us. Diane told us something off brand Cesar Milan said that was literally false. And I'm not my teenage daughter; I'm using the word 'literally' correctly - It simply didn't happen. When i tried to tell her that, she just kept talking about how wonderful they were. Which they aren't. Trust me, they aren't. When i told my wife and daughter, who were both in the room when this comment was supposedly made, they were simply aghast at the bald faced lie these psychopaths told for no reason - they literally just made something up bc they didn't like us! And when I said to Diane, "Whoa - that absolutely did NOT happen, i swear on my daughter that didn't happen," she actually responded with, "No, ***** agreed - he said u said that too so they both agreed it happened!" Fine, if it's a numbers game with you bc 2 people told u it happened, i have 3 who are telling u it didn't! My family was pissed as they were standing right there and couldn't believe they were lying like that. But Diane did and was calling me a liar. It was an INCREDIBLY bizarre experience. Whatever, let's move on. Well, we couldn't bc now diane is listening to these douchebags and is not intelligent enough to understand they really are just making stuff up. So the next dog we inquired about was a Malnois. Diane's exact words were, "Oh u don't want a Malnois, they're way too much energy." Ok. I guess that's a fair point. I didn't think ur job was to talk people OUT of rescuing dogs but ok. So, i picked another puppy and asked to set up a visit. She ignored me for a week before telling me, with what i assume was a straight face, "Well, I've spoken with the advisory committee and we don't feel it's a good fit bc Bodhi is almost 2 months older than this dog." I honestly thought she was kidding at first. Are u trying to tell me that 2 dogs can't grow up together in the same house unless what ... They have the same birthday?! How on earth are you in charge here? Something clearly happened with the A-holes who came to our house who Diane thinks walk on water. Which I'm sure the woman actually told her she could. So we adopted 1 dog and when we went to get him a sibling, diane's job apparently changed from trying to put dogs into homes to keeping dogs from going to homes. It really was even more ridiculous than i can describe in this review. So we bought a dog off f***ing Craigslist. That's how good this place is at their jobs. We BOUGHT a dog. And fyi - There are tons of purebred gsd's on craigslist who also need good homes and can be had for $300-500. Look there first. I do not understand the unfair negative reviews for Front Range German Shepherd Rescue. I cannot say enough good things about the wonderful volunteers at FRGSR. We have never adopted a rescue dog until now. I understand how some may think the vetting process is intense; however, this is needed so the volunteers can match the perfect dog for you and your family. They don't want a dog to be surrendered back to them due to unrealistic expectations. This is so traumatizing for a dog. The bio of each dog is very accurate, even if the dog does not have a "sunshine and rainbow" personality. The first GSD that we adopted had an honest "not so desirable" bio. We saw his pictures and scheduled an appointment to meet him. We knew instantly when we saw him that we needed him and he desperately needed us. We were allowed as much time as we needed to get to know him (over 1 hour). I will admit he was a challenge at first, but we knew exactly what we were getting, personality wise. After much love and patience, this big guy is now the most loving dog that we have ever owned. We recently adopted another sheppie from Front Range German Shepherd Rescue and once again was extremely pleased with the adoption process. She is the sweetest girl and a great addition to our family. In short, these awesome volunteers with FRGSR put their heart and soul into giving each rejected/neglected/abused dog a second chance for a loving home. They do not want the adoption process to fail because this is so discouraging for the adopter and for the dog. If you are looking for a German Shepherd AND are FULLY committed to giving the love, patience, and time that a rescue dog needs, please submit an application to Front Range German Shepherd Rescue. DO NOT RESCUE FROM THIS PLACE!! They care more about politics then giving dogs a new home. After calling all of my references and reviewing my application (I mentioned we had 2 female dogs), they told my reference that it sounds like I will have a new puppy. Fast forward two days later where I had to inquire about the status of the adoption and they told me "oh you didn't receive our email? Must have went to spam. We don't adopt female dogs out to other homes with female dogs." Interesting...nothing on their website says what they stated. We have been looking high and low for a rescue female as we have 2 other rescued female dogs who get along like best friends. Discriminating because of the gender of dog is unheard of. We are rescuing a dog who needs a good home and that is all that should matter. To turn away a good home without even offering a home visit is ridiculous and selfish. Horrible experience when all you want to do is give a dog a good home. read more

Our experience with FRGSD was seamless. The foster we were in contact with was very responsive and the process was pretty quick from the initial phone conversation after receiving our application, to contacting our references, to setting up a meet and greet. The rescue is thorough and makes sure that the dog was a good fit for our lifestyle, other dog, etc., which is a good thing! Having volunteered with several rescues in the past, including interviewing potential adopters and doing home visits, I can say all of the measures are necessary and done to ensure the best possible outcome for the adopters and the dogs. This place will lie about a dogs behaviors just to get your money. They don't care about your situation. The fosters are a nightmare and getting in contact with someone when you need them is unlikely. Avoid them and go to somewhere that truly cares and takes care of the animals. I've been a foster and a hospice home with this organization. The care and attention they give is to the dog first. How do you set the dog up for success. How do you make sure the dog goes to the right home. The bad reviews I see here - mean that they were not flexible to get the "right" dog the rescue would have placed with them. They rescue, rehab, train if necessary, and place the dog in the "right" home - for the dog. GSDs are a tough breed. The process can take a long time, and they don't place a dog with every person who wants one. To me that speaks volumes about their integrity and commitment. If you want a dog today - go to the local shelter. If you want to Rescue GSD and be matched with the right dog for you - then be patient, and go here. read more

Volunteers are horrible at getting back to potential adopters. Lack of communication doesn't get dogs adopted. Go elsewhere!

I adopted a GSD from FRGSR about a year and a half ago. I typically do not write negative reviews, but after a lot of thought, I figured that my experience could be useful to someone considering adopting from them. Initial communication from the rescue was very quick. I was contacted the day after I submitted an adoption application and had a good conversation with the person that I spoke with about the dog I was interested in. I was told the dog was great with other dogs, well-behaved, needed some work on leash and had some minor separation anxiety. I was also told he had an old injury to one of his legs that caused him some arthritis, and that he was found as a stray in another state, taken to a shelter, and transferred to FRGRS. My references were contacted very quickly and a meeting was quickly arranged between the dog and myself. The meeting occurred in a parking lot away from people and other stimulus. Probably foolishly on my part, I decided to adopt the dog at this point. Having worked in an animal shelter, I understand that frequently dogs in rescues and shelters "shut down" and don't show their full range of behaviors right away, but very quickly after getting my dog home I realized the information I had been given about him was incorrect. He had severe anxiety, all the time, and he was EXTREMELY reactive to other dogs, also somewhat reactive to people on skateboards, bikes, etc, to the point where I exclusively exercised him at night because he could simply not be out in public during the day. He was also diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia, which I was told nothing about prior to adopting him. I chalked this all up to believing that he was in a shut down state in foster care, and I did not believe he was deliberately misrepresented to me. However, recently, out of curiosity, I contacted the original shelter he came from and asked if they had any information on his history. While I was told by FRGSR that he was a stray, I was told by the shelter that he was an owner surrender and he had been through multiple owners in his life due to his high energy, reactive behavior. After I received this information, I believe that either a major miscommunication happened on their end, or he was deliberately misrepresented to me. Either way, this is unacceptable. After extensive work, some of his issues became slightly better. He is currently going through a $4000 intensive training program in the hopes that we can both live a more stress free life in the future. I LOVE this dog and I wouldn't trade him for the world now, but I was unprepared for him in the beginning and . Whether through miscommunication/disorganization, or blatant dishonesty, he was not the dog that I told he was, and I would not have adopted him had I known the extent of his issues. While I acknowledge that some of his issues may have not been immediately apparent to the rescue/his fosters, I don't believe that he was the "well behaved, great with dogs" dog that they advertised him to be. I hope that my situation was a fluke, and I understand mistakes happen, but this was a pretty big mistake and I hope that this doesn't happen to anyone else. I understand that rescue is hard work and I'm sure the people working/volunteering here are very committed to the dogs, but this was not the right way to go about the situation. read more

tried getting my German Shepherd in here. I sent pictures of her papers, her, and a full description as to why we needed to surrender her. they responded saying that her shots were not up to date (even though they got renewed the day before I sent the email, and they were accurate photos or her papers. I replied explaining that they were, and took/sent a new photo (in case I sent the wrong one at first) They then didn't respond. I emailed again a few weeks later, and they said she needed to get spayed in order to come in. So we spayed her the following week. While this organization provides a useful service it lacks in ability to fulfill the service and get the dogs adopted. My experience with them has been very lacking in response to say the least. They ask for questions to make sure you are a good German Shepard candidate (which is a good thing), but then nit pick the details. For example we have a 6ft fence covering 95% of our yard except where it faces the street. However, because 5% of our fence is at 4 ft. we are then deemed unfit for having a German Shepard. They disregard that we owned a very large German Shepard and Husky previously. Overall I would give them an "F" for failure to provide an adoption. This is even after we met a dog that we thought would fit well with our family, but were then told again that our fence was an issue. I would steer clear of this dog adoption organization, since they waste your time and continuously give you the run-around. read more
