Ahhh.. fresh local gelato! Somehow despite being an ice cream/gelato addict and living 15 min away, I had never been before. MA has so many good options! Another reason might be the exterior appearance, which looks kind of like a convenience store. Once inside though, it's a unique hybrid of a froyo shop and a gelateria. I'll be back to try the former, but for now I was focused on the latter. They have a pretty large selection of flavors, but to test them (and enjoy a long-time favorite!) I went with the classic duo of (dark) chocolate and lemoncello. Both were rich, dense, and flavorful. I also tried the amaretto, which was delicious and tasted more of fresh cherries than cherry liqueur. The coffee looked strong like espresso and will be in my dish next time! read more

SO MANY OPTIONS!!! It was a Saturday and I was on a family brewery hop to celebrate fathers day early. I don't drink beer and I wanted my daughter to have something to look forward to. I found Froze Zone on Yelp and immediately wanted to go! Look at those pictures! It looks just like the photos at the shop. There were all those flavors of gelato but also frozen yogurt choices as well with all those froyo toppings! I sampled about 6 flavors but settled on straciella (sp?) and peanut butter. The straciella was extremely smooth with huge and small chunks of chocolate in it. It's not as basic as vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips not was it cookies and cream. It was like a rich vanilla ice cream with a small hint of cream in it with those chunks that were a surprise based on size. The peanut butter was pretty straight forward but good. The employee was extremely nice. Clean facility. The ladies were glad we went! (Also a side note- there was a mini Froze Zone cart available at the indoor market attached to the Wachusett Brew Yard. They had probably 8-10 flavors but this location probably had 25/30) read more

My husband makes fun of me for my ferocious loyalty to Froze Zone but I don't mind. This spot on Ice Cream Alley is between a Dairy Queen and Meola's and always wins out for me. The gelato is fantastic- great flavors and high quality. The service is super friendly and familial- really patient and welcoming to little kids and parents with their hands full. The building is easy to access and always very clean. The amaretto flavor is terrific and the chocolate is the best I've ever tasted- super rich and chocolatey, almost like frozen chocolate mousse! Don't overlook it. In my dreams they'd carry a dark burnt caramel flavor. They're very generous with samples to make sure you try a few! read more

This shop is clean and has a lot of options for yogurt and gelato. Everything I have sampled I have enjoyed. I wanted some sort of pina colada smoothie, and the counter employee was helpful in making that happen. Overall, this place gets 5 stars for their service and product, but 3 stars for the atmosphere. We came in in the evening and place was spotless, attendants super friendly, and gelato FANTASTIC! We were allowed to try a few flavors before settling on our selections. I had the cookie monster and the fruity pebbles. Both deliciously smooth with the fruity pebbles tasting like a bowl of cereal of milk, my childhood. Gelato was being offered as part of the grand opening for the Shrewsbury country shoppe, and whala! We learned of the joys of this amazing ice cream gelato store!!!!!! We tried the coffee: rich, caffeiney, perfect, the chocolate: deep and decadent the Stracciatella Which was abolsutely phenomenal with perfect vanilla heavenly creaminess drizzled with just the right amount of chocolate ribbons, And the brand new "orange creamsicle" which uses more of a tangerine with cream. Recently, came here with my family. I really liked Froze Zone. The building, located across the street from the new Cumberland Farms gas station (with cheap prices) in West Boylston, seemed brand new. I liked the blue and orange color scheme. There was plenty of places to eat inside and outside of the restaurant. We decided to escape the heat and enjoy the air conditioning. The entire restaurant - the tables, restrooms and serving areas - was very clean. The food was amazing. We had both the gelato and the frozen yogurt. We did not get the protein shakes, but our friends have gotten them in the past and enjoyed them. The servers let us try all of the flavors. Our favorite flavors of gelato were stracciatella, raspberry, chocolate, tiramisu, strawberry, and mint. Our favorite flavors of frozen yogurt were yellow cake batter, blueberry, watermelon, and tropical fruit. They were all very flavorful. I particularly enjoyed the gelato. Not only is it apparently made fresh by the owner every morning, but you get the joy of eating ice cream without the extra fat, sugar and calories. I don't think I'll go back to eating ice cream. Another thing that is nice about Froze Zone is that they keep on rotating new flavors of gelato and frozen yogurt. The prices were all reasonable. The yogurt prices were comparable to other frozen yogurt stores (e.g., Pinkberry). The gelato prices were sensible. I don't know where else you can get gelato in Worcester County so I cannot really compare it to other places. I would not compare it to ice cream prices since health-wise two/three scoops of ice cream is the same as one scoop of gelato. Ice cream is kind of like the fast food of cool desserts (e.g., you can get ice cream for a dollar at McDonalds). I really like the pricing system at Froze Zone. They just charge by the cup. No judgmental and exploitative scale, like most frozen yogurt places. They also don't charge for toppings, which is great for my family who loves adding topping and eating hot fudge sundaes. The owner has been there the few times we've been and is always friendly and makes sure the "scoopers" are packing as much as possible into the serving cups.
