The owners are very friendly and there was a little bit of a language barrier, but I think we worked around it just fine. I needed to get the heel caps on my mother's shoes replaced. I initially went to Foothill Square Shoe Repair. The owner wanted $30 upfront and I could pick the shoes up three days later. I was in my work attire & he saw me pull up in a company vehicle. When he asked for the money I replied "you haven't done anything." He was firm and I firmly grabbed the shoes & left. I was very happy to find Fruitvale Show Repair on Yelp only 2 miles from my home and with a 4+ stars review standing. I was greeted quickly and nicely at the counter after I arrived. I needed new heels on my knee high boots and a shoe polish. He was able to accommodate a same day service and was ready 4 hrs later. The quality of the work was excellent. I haven't been to a shoe repair shop for quite some time, so I'm not familiar how the pricing compared to other places. I was charged $20 for the new heel and $10 for the polish. Initially, I was satisfied with the re-sole work; until they started to come apart this last week. This morning I took them in expecting that he would stand behind his work. I left a pair of orthopedic SAS shoes to have the entire soles replaced. The tips near the toes were especially worn. The shop fitted extra rubber at the toe tips before entire new Vibram soles were glued on. It was not cheap. It cost $65 cash only up front before repairs were made. The repair was excellent. A new pair of SAS shoes costs $180, so it was worthwhile to have them repaired. One warning: parking is difficult. Avoid going on the 1st or 3rd Friday of the month from 9 AM - Noon, as half of the nearby streets have "No Parking" at those hours due to street cleaning. I found Fruitvale Shoe Repair on Yelp and called on a Saturday afternoon to see if they fixed purse straps ... I was in luck! Fortunately found parking around the corner. The gentleman working was polite and showed me how he'd fix my purse by Tuesday! He fixed the straps for $20 which I thought was affordable especially since it was a designer purse. I've come here multiple times for multiple issues and when I thought my shoes were done, they were brought back to life. I have an old pair of docs where the heel kept coming off, those were fixed. I had uggs with awful oil stains and when I got them back, good as new. The owner of Fruitvale Shoe Repair replaced the rubber heel with a sturdy vibram heel and the price was substanially less if I would have sent them back to the factory for re-work. I brought in 2 pairs of monk straps for heel replacement and sole protectors for $100 total. Down from $55 a pair with the multi pair discount. I notice this is higher than the $45 a pair price qouted by reviwers in the past, nevertheless I believe this is a reasonable price for the type of work. I dropped off on a Sunday afternoon promised for a Tuesday afternoon pick up. I left a $40 deposit (but I think he would have been ok had I left $20). I got a text when my shoes where ready on Tuesday. Love that they are open 7 days a week (please dont over work your seleves tho). I plan on bringing more shoes in but for the moment I havent had a chance to wear the shoes and see how they hold up! read more
