Fruity land is the spot. Prices are good, ice cream is better. Who doesn't love a whole evening going to get ice cream at this awesome, local, independent Mexican ice cream parlor. Also, they have free wi-fi. Heck yeah! They also sell snacks and mexican candy. It's a fun, colorful place, that serves delicious treats, is family owned, and apparently I need to try the waffles with ice cream. Can't wait. read more

We've scored twice in a row as far as Mexican ice cream parlors with plenty of offerings as well as clear signage. This place was super bright and airy. It had a ton of signage as far as offerings and prices but individual ice cream tubs weren't labeled like La Michoacana so I kept having to ask the server what things were if it wasn't obvious. She was super nice though and let us sample a bunch of different flavors. Aside from scooped ice cream and paletas, they also had a wide selection of "American" kid ice cream offerings- the stuff the ice cream man sells when he drives around in his truck playing the jingle. Prices ridiculously good. Paletas $1.35, single scoop of ice cream $1.69, kid ice cream novelties $1.85 We are having a party in a few weeks and I'm thinking about ordering from here. read more

Perhaps I'm just a little bit too excited for the spring time in Chicago. I get to walk around to explore my neighborhood instead of trying to stay warm by rushing home after work. For now my "foodie hours" are officially extended. Hubby and I walked to the east side of Albany Park to search for some mangollada. I've been noticing the presence of Fruityland Ice Cream, which is located in close proximity to the CTA Kedzie Brown Line station. You can't possibly miss the bright-colored store-front and interior when you're passing by. However, is this place worth of stopping by? My answer is affirmative. We did wait for about five (5) minutes until it was our turn to order. Well, it was within my expectation since Chicagoans are quite sensitive to the Mother Nature; many outdoor activities are performed when weather permits. With that being said, tonight was just perfect for some cold sweet treats. As long as the wait wasn't ridiculous (which it wasn't), I'm still a happy gal when I'm holding a large cup of mangollada in my hand! Their mangollada appeared to be very popular, about six (6) out of ten (10) people ordering it. The other 40% of the customers went with other treats, such as paletas, Aguas frescas, smoothies, elote, ice cream, yogurts, and other miscellaneous because there is a ton of options. Our mangollada was great. The chili sauce wasn't extremely-drenched throughout the entire cup, so I could still taste the mango and mango ice cream without having the chili sauce over-powering their flavors. Getting this was worth the twenty (20)-minute walk from our apartment. We can't wait to go back to try some other items on the menu. read more

One star is generous. I'm not sure what the exact recipe is for a chocolate banana shake, but this place doesn't have it. I mean c'mon...ice cream, real banana, milk and choc sauce. Not rocket science. I just spent $7 on some sort of weird tasting, watery mess that had NO BANNANA in it and left the foulest taste in my mouth that will stick with me for hours. maybe I'll go back for a scoop of vanilla...can't PHUQ that up I guess...maybe read more

The name Fruityland makes it seem like a produce market. LIES! Kinda how a Viking named a huge ice glacier Greenland and a more hospitable place Iceland. Since Fruityland is vegetable poor, but full of frosty treats it should be called ICETOWN. And what a grand place it is! Dozens of ice cream bars and decadents. Which is great if one wants something normally found on an ice cream truck but it's out of season or they aren't around. Or they hate that damn music. Ice cream sandwiches, rocket pops, screwballs, fudgesicle, pushups, dreamsicles, klondikes, drumsticks, and my personal favorite. Chocotacos! But wait. there's more. They also have waffles with ice cream, soft serve, and gas station nachos made even more gas station-y since they use cheetos, and elotes. And a few tables and chair to enjoy all this stuff on and open year round with reasonable hours. Magic. See ya there. I'll be the one with the Chocotaco. My taste buds have just been orally assaulted by a mangollada. I thought it was going to be chunks of sweet, fresh mango sprinkled with lime juice and a hint of chili powder. What I got was some sort of icy slush with sirracha and ketchup swirled together, and maybe 1 teaspoon of actual mango pieces on top. I guess my expectations were too high, as I hoped Fruityand would have some healthy fruit options. However, I reserve the right to come back to try the Cheetos and Takis served with hot nacho sauce. read more

I am one for unique and different places and this is fersure one of them! I love the vast variety of homemade ice creams and desserts. When id first gone, I had a homemade waffle with a scoop of Carmel chocolate chip ice cream, Nutella, chocolate sauce and pecans and it was AWESOME! I can't wait to go back and try the hotchips with cheese. I haven't gone to a place that sold that as an item since I was a freshman in high school! I love that they sell the Mexican and American version of Cheetos and other brands of chips Overall the ice cream (from the bucket) was alright and nothing too great, but the prices were great. If you had a choice between any old fast food or 31 flavors joint, driving over here is way more worth it. read more

Customer service was average. Prices are ridiculously high. I have gone to hundreds of paleterias. This os is crazy expensive. Almost $3 dollars for a bag of chicharrones? Thats a bit high. Fruit with Yogurts were not as fresh either. Lots of options though. read more

It's official, a place that has Cheetos con Queso (Crunchy Cheetos smothered in hot nacho cheese) and yes, Ice Cream can be ordered too... This has become the #1 dining destination of choice for my Boyfriend. God help me. Food that comes in neon colors not generally found in nature scares me, as does squeezey nacho cheese- so no, I haven't tasted it or the many options of candy, chips, elotes, fruit with hot sauce or ice cream but the service is smiley when we did buy for some hungry ultra-runners (like bringing a full keg to a frat house- they go nuts!) The prices are ridiculously cheap too- I can't believe how cheap these candy, treats and snacks are! Granted, if you came in asking what is low-calorie, certified organic you may be punted out to laughter, but of you are looking to snack on your cheat day- the cost plus speedy service can't be beat. Being that I am a Canadian who lived in south, south bordertown Texas for about 5 years, I think I know a thing or two about Elotes and Mangolladas and Mexican food in general. I have come to realize the Chigaco has a very large Mexican population - which usually means some authentic Mexican food - yummo!!! I never dreamt of the day that I would get an authentic Elote en el vaso anywhere north of Houston. I have to admit, it wasn't as good as south Texas, you know its all about the water LOL!!! This place is great for ice cream! They have savory snacks too, but we didn't try any of them on this trip. They have standard ice cream flavors like strawberry (Fresa), vanilla and chocolate, but then they have more exotic flavors like pina colada, coconut (with pieces of coconut throughout the ice cream), rompope and tequilla. I tried the coconut and nutella- both were fantastic!! Plus, you can get a double scoop in a cone that holds the scoops side by side! Which means you can eat them together instead of working your way from the top down. Definitely worth a trip (and a second and a third!). I know where I'm going for ice cream from now on! read more

ELOTES ELOTES ELOTES, it's a chant I say loudly in my head before I enter this place. I grew up in the area and have fond memories of eating paletas and elotes. This has place has everything! Sandwiches, waffles with ice cream, strawberries with yogurt OR cream, elotes, hot cheetos with nacho cheese.... DROOL Ugh SO GOOD. I probably could snack here everyday. An ice cream place is an ice cream place. Not so with Fruityland. It has opened recently and there's always a line. I decided to break my sweets fast and stop by, and I was welcomed with a line outside the door. They have a cornucopia of hispanic-centric foods. Takis with cheese, elotes, chiccharones... all types of stuff, in addition to lots of frozen treats. I was confused and overwhelmed. I wish they would've just had a simple menu with a list of all of the stuff they have with prices. Seems simple enough to me. Anyway, I knew what I was there for. I had chili spiced mango before. It is an interesting taste, so why not try it in ice cream form? I got a small mangollada... and it was interesting. It could've had a little less of the chili syrup, as it was way too salty, but it was pretty good overall. It's a great place to go in the summer, and the prices are ridiculously cheap. read more

I liked their selection of flavors, which included Mexican flavors that I hadn't seen before at other ice cream parlors. This place is awesome! Great prices and delicious ice cream. I got a waffle cone with 2 scoops of ice cream for $1.50 plus tax. The flavors I tried were coconut and rum with raisins. There were coconut flakes in the ice cream which were delicious but the rum with raisins was my favorite! I would definitely come back. read more

I do not understand why the reviews are so good about this place. the taste of the ice cream was same as any ice cream that you could get from a grocery store. the only reason i give an extra star was because of the prices. they mostly attract latin crowd in the area, so i guess do not know any better. maybe after knowing what scooters or black dog tastes like; this place did not feel that good. read more

I love Fruityland. What I don't love is their yogurt. After the third fresas con crema each one tasted horrible. They don't bother to use fresh and nice strawberries but old ones. Sadly their fresas con crema is really bad but their mangonadas are delicious!!!! I've gone to several ice creams places trying to see which one has the best mangonada and Fruityland is the one. The 25 minute walk is worth the mangonada. read more

Five stars in insufficient for the crazy wonder of Fruityland. Generous samples if you want to try any of their flavors, insanely unhealthy hot chips bags with hot cheese, smoothies, fruit bars, sherbert...whatever is sweet and probably bad for you, they have it. The colors are bright and glaring, there is usually at least one TV blaring a telenovela, and there is a joyous madness to their whole experience. Kind scoopers who take great pride in their work. Fruitylandia. Or, at least that's the song I wrote after I went here. I stopped in after dinner one night because let's face it, sometimes you just need to get up and go somewhere else for dessert. We tried their pistachio and limon ice. Both were great. They have everything from mangonadas to elote. The ice cream was pretty good quality and the prices are so reasonable you feel like you got away with something. And, they have discount days on Tuesday and Wednesday. Albany Park's best ice cream shoppe, is no longer the best secret in town. And for good reason! Very affordable prices, hand scooped ice cream sundaes, cones and shakes. There's always a line, but it moves quickly. The mangollada is a very popular item, combining fresh mango sorbet, mango chunks, and a savory chile syrup. It's not too sweet, but very refreshing on a hot day. This place used to more focused on its push cart business, but has rapidly expanded offerings in the past year and a half. The only really sad part is that we used to order all the time on GrubHub at the $15 minimum but they raised it to $25 and that's just way too much ice cream. I like the place, is cheap and they have great snacks.. usually go in to buy the mango with chili and ice cream. .there's is two things I disliked. once I bought a slice of chocolate cake looked good but when I tried it was really dried. Also I went in like maybe a month ago and the girl who took my order looked as if she was high her eyes were red and small and she was smiling all the time as if there was something funny.
